Well, the answer is,

They look the same,

Okay, let's take a look at these two words.

They spell the same way,

but the pronunciation

and the meaning is different.

It's a Heteronym.

What's the Heteronym?

ما هو الاسم المستعار؟

It’s where two words are spelled the same way,

إنه حيث يتم كتابة كلمتين بنفس الطريقة،

but have a different pronunciation,

ولكن لهما نطق مختلف

and a different meaning.

ومعنى مختلف.

Let's have a look at the meaning

دعونا نلقي نظرة على معنى

and pronunciation of our two words.

ونطق كلمتينا.

First, we have ‘wound’.

أولا، لدينا "الجرح".

‘wound’ is a verb,

"الجرح" هو فعل،

it’s past tense of the verb ‘wind’.

وهو زمن الماضي من الفعل "الريح".

And ‘wind’ means to turn or coil lots of times.

و"الريح" تعني الدوران أو اللف عدة مرات.

I have two sentences to show you this.

لدي جملتين لتظهر لك هذا.

‘Yesterday,’. past tense, already happened.

'أمس،'. الزمن الماضي، حدث بالفعل.

‘I wound my watch.’

"لقد جرحت ساعتي."

‘Yesterday, I wound my watch.’

"بالأمس، قمت بتعبئة ساعتي."

And sentence number two.

والجملة رقم اثنين.

‘The vine wound around the pole.’

"جرح الكرمة حول القطب."

The vine, a plant, wound around the pole.

الكرمة، نبات، يلتف حول العمود.

Okay, pronunciation.

حسنًا، النطق.

Let’s look at the word number two.

دعونا نلقي نظرة على الكلمة رقم اثنين.

‘wound’.

'جرح'.

‘wound’ is a noun.

"الجرح" هو اسم.

It means a cut or a scrape

يعني قطع أو كشط

something that is bleeding and it hurts.

شيء ينزف ويؤلم.

I have two sentences to show you this.

لدي جملتين لتظهر لك هذا.

‘The wound on my knee hurts.’

"الجرح في ركبتي يؤلمني."

The cut or the scrape on my knee is bleeding.

الجرح أو الكشط الموجود في ركبتي ينزف.

It hurts.

هذا مؤلم.

‘The wounds on my knee hurts.’

"الجروح في ركبتي تؤلمني."

And sentence number two.

والجملة رقم اثنين.

‘Clean the wound before it gets infected.’

"نظف الجرح قبل أن يصاب بالعدوى."

Clean the wound.

تنظيف الجرح.

Clean scrape, clean the cut before it gets infected.

نظف الكشط، ونظف الجرح قبل أن يصاب بالعدوى.

before it gets dirty.

قبل أن تتسخ.
