USED TO vs BE USED TO Difference | Learn the English Vocabulary Grammar and Meaning

In this video, I’m going to talk about the two similar and sometimes confusing English expressions

ဤဗီဒီယိုတွင်၊ အလားတူနှင့် တစ်ခါတစ်ရံ ရှုပ်ထွေးနေသော အင်္ဂလိပ်အသုံးအနှုန်း နှစ်ခု

‘used to’ and ‘be used to’.

နှင့် 'အသုံးခံသည်' အကြောင်းကို ပြောပြပါမည် ။

These expressions can be confusing,

ဤအသုံးအနှုန်းများသည် ရှုပ်ထွေးနိုင်သော်လည်း

but this video will help you understand the difference and when to use them.

Let’s start with ‘used to’.

'used to' နဲ့ စလိုက်ရအောင်။

Its form is ‘used to’ + the infinitive.

၎င်း၏ပုံစံသည် 'အသုံးပြုရန်' + အဆုံးမရှိဖြစ်သည်။

It's used as a verb.

ကြိယာအဖြစ်သုံးသည်။

'used to' expresses that an activity was a past habit.

လှုပ်ရှားမှုတစ်ခုသည် အတိတ်က အလေ့အထတစ်ခုဖြစ်ကြောင်း 'အသုံးပြုသည်' က ဖော်ပြသည်။

It was a regular occurrence at an earlier stage of life

ဒါဟာ ဘဝရဲ့အစောပိုင်းအဆင့်မှာ ပုံမှန်ဖြစ်ပေမဲ့

but not anymore.

မဖြစ်တော့ဘူး။

Let’s look at some examples.

ဥပမာအချို့ကို ကြည့်ကြပါစို့။

The first sentence says, ‘I used to drink green tea.’

ပထမစာကြောင်းက 'ငါ ရေနွေးကြမ်းသောက်ဖူးတယ်' တဲ့။

However, because it says ‘used to’ it means not anymore.

သို့သော် 'အသုံးပြုသည်' ဟုဆိုသောကြောင့် အဓိပ္ပါယ်မရှိတော့ပါ။

It used to be a regular thing in the past

အရင်တုန်းကတော့ ပုံမှန်ဖြစ်ပေမဲ့

but I don't drink green tea anymore.

ရေနွေးကြမ်းတော့ မသောက်ဖြစ်တော့ဘူး။

The next sentence says, ‘Karen used to play with dolls.’

နောက်စာကြောင်းက 'ကရင်က အရုပ်တွေနဲ့ ကစားဖူးတယ်' တဲ့။

Again, Karen played with dolls a lot maybe in the past

နောက်တခါ Karen ဟာ အရင်တုန်းက အရုပ်တွေနဲ့ ကစားခဲ့

but she doesn't play with dolls anymore

ပေမယ့် အရုပ်တွေနဲ့ မကစားတော့တဲ့အတွက်

and that's why we used ‘used to’.

ကြောင့် 'အရင်ကလို' ဖြစ်တယ်။

Now, I’ll move on to ‘be used to’.

အခုတော့ 'အသုံးခံမယ်' ကို ဆက်သွားမယ်။

Its form is ‘be’ or ‘get used to’.

၎င်း၏ပုံစံမှာ 'ဖြစ်' သို့မဟုတ် 'အသုံးပြုရန်' ဖြစ်သည်။

It means that you are accustomed to something.

ဆိုလိုသည်မှာ သင်သည် တစ်ခုခုကို ကျင့်သားရနေပြီဟု ဆိုလိုသည်။

You don't find it unusual. It's familiar to you.

ထူးထူးခြားခြား မတွေ့ပါဘူး။ အဲဒါ မင်းနဲ့ရင်းနှီးတယ်။

Let’s look at some examples.

ဥပမာအချို့ကို ကြည့်ကြပါစို့။

The first sentence says,

ပထမစာကြောင်းက

‘I’m getting used to working at night.’

'ကျွန်တော် ညဘက် အလုပ်လုပ်ရတာ ပါလာပြီ' လို့ ဆိုပါတယ်။

Remember, the form can be ‘be used to’ or ‘get used to’.

ဖောင်ကို 'အသုံးပြုရန်' သို့မဟုတ် 'အသုံးပြုရန်' လုပ်နိုင်သည်ကို သတိရပါ။

In this example, we're using ‘get used to’.

ဤဥပမာတွင်၊ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် 'အသုံးခံရန်' ကို အသုံးပြုနေပါသည်။

‘I’m getting used to working at night.’

'ကျွန်တော် ညဘက် အလုပ်လုပ်ရတာ များလာပြီ။'

I’m becoming familiar with working at night.

ညဘက်အလုပ်လုပ်ရတာနဲ့ ရင်းနှီးလာတယ်။

Maybe it's because I’ve been working at night for a long time.

ညဘက်အလုပ်လုပ်နေတာကြာပြီဆိုတော့ ဖြစ်ရင်ဖြစ်မယ်။

The next sentence says,

နောက်စာကြောင်းက

‘She's used to the heat in the summer.’

'သူမဟာ နွေရာသီမှာ အပူဒဏ်ကို ခံဖူးတယ်' လို့ ဆိုပါတယ်။

Here, we use the ‘be’ verb ‘she is’.

ဒီနေရာမှာ 'be' ကြိယာ 'she is' ကို သုံးပါတယ်။

‘She's used to the heat in the summer.’

'သူမက နွေရာသီမှာ အပူဒဏ်ကို ခံဖူးတယ်။'

She's accustomed to it.

သူမ ကျင့်သားရသွားပါပြီ။

Maybe it's because she lived in a hot place when she was young.

ငယ်ငယ်တုန်းက ပူပြင်းတဲ့ အရပ်မှာ နေခဲ့ရလို့ ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်။

Now, let's move on to a checkup.

ကဲ စစ်ဆေးကြည့်ကြရအောင်။

In this conversation, there are two sentences.

ဤစကားဝိုင်းတွင် စာကြောင်းနှစ်ကြောင်းရှိသည်။

In one of the sentences, we use ‘used to’.

ဝါကျများထဲမှ တစ်ခုတွင် 'used to' ဟု သုံးသည်။

In the other sentence, we need to use ‘be’ or ‘get used to’.

အခြားဝါကျတွင် 'be' သို့မဟုတ် 'get used to' ကို သုံးရန် လိုအပ်သည်။

Take a moment to think about where we use these expressions.

ဤအသုံးအနှုန်းများကို မည်သည့်နေရာတွင် သုံးကြောင်း စဉ်းစားရန် အချိန်ယူပါ။

‘A’ says, ‘I _blank_ have a better work schedule.’

'A' က 'ငါ _blank_ ပိုကောင်းတဲ့ အလုပ်အချိန်ဇယားရှိတယ်' လို့ ပြောပါတယ်။

‘A’ is trying to express that in the past he had a better work schedule

'A' သည် ယခင်က သူ့တွင် ပိုမိုကောင်းမွန်သော အလုပ်အချိန်ဇယားရှိကြောင်း ထုတ်ဖော်ပြောဆိုရန် ကြိုးစားသော်လည်း

but that's not true anymore.

၎င်းသည် မမှန်တော့ပါ။

So we need to use ‘used to’.

ဒါကြောင့် 'used to' ကို သုံးရမယ်။

‘I used to have a better work schedule.’

'ကျွန်မမှာ ပိုကောင်းတဲ့ အလုပ်အချိန်ဇယား ရှိခဲ့ဖူးတယ်။'

‘B’ says, ‘Don't worry. You'll _blank_ this new schedule soon.’

'B' က 'စိတ်မပူပါနဲ့။ သင်သည် _blank_ ဤအချိန်ဇယားအသစ်ကို မကြာမီတွင် ပြုလုပ်တော့မည်ဖြစ်သည်။'

‘B’ is trying to tell ‘A’

အချိန်အနည်းငယ်ကြာပြီးနောက်

after some time

'B' သည် 'A' ကို ပြောပြရန် ကြိုးစားနေသဖြင့်

you'll be accustomed to your new schedule.

သင့်အချိန်ဇယားအသစ်ကို ကျင့်သားရလာမည်ဖြစ်သည်။

So ‘B’ can say,

ဒါကြောင့် 'B' က

‘Don't worry. You'll be used to this new schedule soon,’

'စိတ်မပူပါနဲ့။ သင်သည် ဤအချိန်ဇယားအသစ်ကို မကြာမီတွင် အသုံးပြုလိမ့်မည်'

or ‘Don't worry. you'll get used to this new schedule soon.’

သို့မဟုတ် 'စိတ်မပူပါနဲ့။ ဤအချိန်ဇယားအသစ်ကို မကြာမီတွင် သင်အသုံးပြုနိုင်မည်ဖြစ်သည်။'

So if we look at this conversation altogether,

ဒါကြောင့် ဒီစကားဝိုင်းကို လုံးလုံးကြည့်မယ်ဆိုရင်

‘A’ says,

'A' က

‘I used to have a better work schedule.’

'ကျွန်မမှာ ပိုကောင်းတဲ့ အလုပ်အချိန်ဇယား ရှိခဲ့ဖူးတယ်' လို့ ပြောပါတယ်။

‘B’ says,

'B' က

‘Don't worry. You'll get used to this new schedule soon.’

'စိတ်မပူပါနဲ့။ ဤအချိန်ဇယားအသစ်ကို မကြာမီတွင် သင်အသုံးပြုနိုင်မည်ဖြစ်သည်။'

Now you know the difference between ‘used to’ and ‘be used to’.

'အသုံးပြုသည်' နှင့် 'အသုံးကျသည်' အကြား ခြားနားချက်ကို ယခု သင်သိပြီ။

Be sure to use them correctly.

အဲဒါတွေကို မှန်မှန်ကန်ကန်သုံးဖို့ သေချာပါစေ။
