USED TO vs BE USED TO Difference | Learn the English Vocabulary Grammar and Meaning

In this video, I’m going to talk about the two similar and sometimes confusing English expressions

এই ভিডিওতে, আমি দুটি অনুরূপ এবং কখনও কখনও বিভ্রান্তিকর ইংরেজি অভিব্যক্তি

‘used to’ and ‘be used to’.

'ব্যবহার করা' এবং 'অভ্যস্ত হতে' সম্পর্কে কথা বলতে যাচ্ছি ।

These expressions can be confusing,

এই অভিব্যক্তিগুলি বিভ্রান্তিকর হতে পারে,

but this video will help you understand the difference and when to use them.

Let’s start with ‘used to’.

চলুন শুরু করা যাক 'অভ্যস্ত' দিয়ে।

Its form is ‘used to’ + the infinitive.

এর ফর্মটি 'অভ্যস্ত' + অনন্ত।

It's used as a verb.

এটি একটি ক্রিয়া হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

'used to' expresses that an activity was a past habit.

'অভ্যস্ত হতে' প্রকাশ করে যে একটি কার্যকলাপ অতীতের অভ্যাস ছিল।

It was a regular occurrence at an earlier stage of life

জীবনের আগের পর্যায়ে এটি একটি নিয়মিত ঘটনা ছিল

but not anymore.

কিন্তু আর নয়।

Let’s look at some examples.

আসুন কিছু উদাহরণ দেখি।

The first sentence says, ‘I used to drink green tea.’

প্রথম বাক্যটি বলে, 'আমি সবুজ চা পান করতাম।'

However, because it says ‘used to’ it means not anymore.

যাইহোক, কারণ এটি 'অভ্যস্ত' বলে এর মানে আর নয়।

It used to be a regular thing in the past

আগে এটা একটা নিয়মিত জিনিস ছিল

but I don't drink green tea anymore.

কিন্তু আমি আর গ্রিন টি পান করি না।

The next sentence says, ‘Karen used to play with dolls.’

পরের বাক্যটি বলে, 'ক্যারেন পুতুল নিয়ে খেলতেন।'

Again, Karen played with dolls a lot maybe in the past

আবার, ক্যারেন আগে হয়তো অনেক পুতুল নিয়ে খেলত

but she doesn't play with dolls anymore

কিন্তু সে এখন আর পুতুল নিয়ে খেলা করে না

and that's why we used ‘used to’.

এবং সেজন্যই আমরা 'অভ্যস্ত' করতাম।

Now, I’ll move on to ‘be used to’.

এখন, আমি 'অভ্যস্ত হতে' এগিয়ে যাব।

Its form is ‘be’ or ‘get used to’.

এর রূপ হল 'হও' বা 'গেট টু'।

It means that you are accustomed to something.

এর মানে হল যে আপনি কিছুতে অভ্যস্ত।

You don't find it unusual. It's familiar to you.

আপনি এটা অস্বাভাবিক খুঁজে না. এটা আপনার পরিচিত.

Let’s look at some examples.

আসুন কিছু উদাহরণ দেখি।

The first sentence says,

প্রথম বাক্যটি বলে,

‘I’m getting used to working at night.’

'আমি রাতে কাজ করতে অভ্যস্ত হয়ে যাচ্ছি।'

Remember, the form can be ‘be used to’ or ‘get used to’.

মনে রাখবেন, ফর্মটি 'be use to' বা 'get to' হতে পারে।

In this example, we're using ‘get used to’.

এই উদাহরণে, আমরা 'অভ্যস্ত হতে' ব্যবহার করছি।

‘I’m getting used to working at night.’

'আমি রাতে কাজ করতে অভ্যস্ত হয়ে যাচ্ছি।'

I’m becoming familiar with working at night.

আমি রাতে কাজ করার সাথে পরিচিত হয়ে উঠছি।

Maybe it's because I’ve been working at night for a long time.

হয়তো এটা কারণ আমি অনেক দিন ধরে রাতে কাজ করছি।

The next sentence says,

পরের বাক্যটি বলে,

‘She's used to the heat in the summer.’

'তিনি গ্রীষ্মে গরমে অভ্যস্ত।'

Here, we use the ‘be’ verb ‘she is’.

এখানে, আমরা 'be' ক্রিয়া 'she is' ব্যবহার করি।

‘She's used to the heat in the summer.’

'তিনি গ্রীষ্মে গরমে অভ্যস্ত।'

She's accustomed to it.

সে এতে অভ্যস্ত।

Maybe it's because she lived in a hot place when she was young.

হতে পারে কারণ সে যখন ছোট ছিল তখন সে একটি গরম জায়গায় থাকত।

Now, let's move on to a checkup.

এখন, আসুন একটি চেকআপে এগিয়ে যাই।

In this conversation, there are two sentences.

এই কথোপকথনে, দুটি বাক্য আছে।

In one of the sentences, we use ‘used to’.

একটি বাক্যে, আমরা 'ব্যবহৃত টু' ব্যবহার করি।

In the other sentence, we need to use ‘be’ or ‘get used to’.

অন্য বাক্যে, আমাদের 'হও' বা 'অভ্যস্ত হতে' ব্যবহার করতে হবে।

Take a moment to think about where we use these expressions.

আমরা এই অভিব্যক্তিগুলি কোথায় ব্যবহার করি সে সম্পর্কে চিন্তা করার জন্য একটু সময় নিন।

‘A’ says, ‘I _blank_ have a better work schedule.’

'ক' বলছে, 'আমার _খালি_ কাজের সময়সূচী আরও ভালো।'

‘A’ is trying to express that in the past he had a better work schedule

'এ' প্রকাশ করার চেষ্টা করছে যে অতীতে তার কাজের সময়সূচী আরও ভাল ছিল

but that's not true anymore.

কিন্তু এটি আর সত্য নয়।

So we need to use ‘used to’.

তাই আমাদের 'অভ্যস্ত হতে' ব্যবহার করতে হবে।

‘I used to have a better work schedule.’

'আমার কাজের সময়সূচি আরও ভালো ছিল।'

‘B’ says, ‘Don't worry. You'll _blank_ this new schedule soon.’

'বি' বলেছেন, 'চিন্তা করবেন না। আপনি শীঘ্রই এই নতুন সময়সূচীটি _blank_ করবেন।'

‘B’ is trying to tell ‘A’

'B' 'A' কে বলার চেষ্টা করছে

after some time

কিছুক্ষণ পর

you'll be accustomed to your new schedule.

আপনি আপনার নতুন সময়সূচীতে অভ্যস্ত হয়ে যাবেন।

So ‘B’ can say,

তাই 'বি' বলতে পারে,

‘Don't worry. You'll be used to this new schedule soon,’

'চিন্তা করবেন না। আপনি শীঘ্রই এই নতুন সময়সূচীতে অভ্যস্ত হবেন,'

or ‘Don't worry. you'll get used to this new schedule soon.’

বা 'চিন্তা করবেন না। আপনি শীঘ্রই এই নতুন সময়সূচীতে অভ্যস্ত হয়ে যাবেন।'

So if we look at this conversation altogether,

তাই যদি আমরা এই কথোপকথনটি সম্পূর্ণভাবে দেখি,

‘A’ says,

'ক' বলে,

‘I used to have a better work schedule.’

'আমার কাজের সময়সূচী আরও ভাল ছিল।'

‘B’ says,

'বি' বলেছেন,

‘Don't worry. You'll get used to this new schedule soon.’

'চিন্তা করবেন না। আপনি শীঘ্রই এই নতুন সময়সূচীতে অভ্যস্ত হয়ে যাবেন।'

Now you know the difference between ‘used to’ and ‘be used to’.

এখন আপনি 'অভ্যস্ত হতে' এবং 'অভ্যস্ত হতে' এর মধ্যে পার্থক্য জানেন।

Be sure to use them correctly.
