So I decided to make a video about expressions,

English expressions related to happiness.

عبارات انكليزية متعلقة بالسعادة

Now if you're wondering why I'm so happy,

الان اذا تتسألوا لما انا سعيدة

honestly there's no single reason.

بصراحة لا يوجد سبب واحد

It's just life is really fun right now.

انها فقط ان الحياة حقا ممتعة الان

The channel's going well, I think we're just about to hit

a received pronunciation, so that could be

بلهجة متداولة و هذا ممكن ان تكون

a really good one to download if you want to practise

Right, let's get started with the video.

حسنا فلنبدأ في هذا الفيديو

The first expression relating to happiness is

اول عبارة متعلقة بالسعادة هي

to be over the moon.

ان تكون على القمر

And to be over the moon means to be really, really happy,

و ان تكون على القمر يعني انك حقا حقا سعيد

believe it or not.

صدق ام لا

So, I can say that last Thursday, I passed my driving test

اذا يمكن ان اقول الخميس الماضي نجحت في امتحان القيادة

and I was over the moon because I had to try

و كنت على القمر لانني اضطررت ان اجرب

three times, yes, that was my third test.

ثلاثة مرات، نعم، هذه تجربتي الثالثة

Yeah, I was completely over the moon because driving

نعم كنت فعلا على القمر لان القيادة

is not something that has come naturally to me,

لم تكن شيء طبيعي لي

and it really bothered me for a long time that

و كانت تزعجني لوقت طويل

I couldn't drive, but now I can, so I'm over the moon.

لم اتمكن من من القيادة، و لكن الآن يمكنني لذا انا على القمر

The next expression related to happiness is

العبارة التالية المتعلقة بالسعادة هي

to have a whale of a time.

ملك حوت من الوقت

And to have a whale of a time, well, you guess what

و ملك حوت من الوقت يعني احذروا ماذا

this one means.

هذه تعني

Let me use this one in an example and see if you can guess

دعوني استخدمها في مثل و أرى اذا حذرتم

what it means.

ما تعنيه

Just a clue, it has nothing to do with whales.

فقط اشارة ليس لها علاقة بالحيتان

So I went to a ball on Saturday, and a ball is like

اذا ذهبت الى حفلة راقصة السبت الماضي و الحفل الراقص يعني

a posh party, you normally have dinner, then you can dance.

حفلة راقية ، عادة هناك عشاء ثم يمكن ان ترقص

I went to a ball on Saturday with a group of friends

السبت ذهبت الى حفلة راقصة مع اصدقاء

and I had a whale of a time.

و حصلت على حوت من الوقت.

Okay, so to have a whale of a time means to have

حسنا لدينا حوت من الوقت

a fantastic time.

وقت رائع

Nothing to do with whales.

لا علاقة للحيتان

Now the next one, number three is actually

الان التالية رقم ثلاثة هي

a slang expression, but I think it's really important

مصطلح عامّي لكن اظنه حقا مهم

that you guys know this one.

ان تعرفوا معناه

We definitely use it a lot in England.

نستخدمها كثيرا في انكلترا

It is to be buzzing.

ان تشعر بالرنين

Now, if you say, "I'm buzzing," it means I'm really

اذا قلت "انا ارن" يعني انا حقا

exhilarated, really enthusiastic, really happy,

مبهجة و متحمسة و حقا سعيدة

really excited about something.

حقا متحمسة لشيء

So it means I've got positive emotions in my body,

اذا يعني لدي مشاعر ايجابية في جسدي

and it is a good feeling, okay.

و هذا شعور جميل، حسنا

So I could say, "I've just booked my tickets for (foreign),"

لذا يمكن ان اقول "لقد حجزت تذكرتي ل(مكان اجنبي)"

which I seem to mention all the time, but I am buzzing.

الذي اظن اني اذكره كل الوقت لكني ارن

I cannot wait to go.

متحمسة للذهاب

So that is a perfect situation, a perfect example of

اذا هذه حالة ممتازة مثل ممتاز

the word buzzing, because I literally am buzzing.

الكلمة رنين لانني فعليا ارن

(buzzes)

رنين

Coffee must have did that.

المهوة قامت بذلك

Okay, number four-- (blows lips)

حسنا رقم اربع

Okay, number four is to be happy as Larry.

حسنا رقم اربع ان تكون سعيد كلاري

Who is Larry?

من هو لاري

It doesn't matter, cuz it's not relevant.

لا يهم، لان لا علاقة له

I don't know who Larry is.

لا اعرف من هو لاري

I'm sure one of you will Google the etymology of

انا اكيدة انكم ستروا على جوجل عن اصل

happy as Larry and find out, but to be happy as Larry

سعيد كلاري و تكتشفوا، لكن ان تكون سعيد كلاري

mean to be really, really happy.

يعني ان تكوم حقا حقا سعيد

So I might ask, you know, "Does John like his new job?"

اذا يمكن ان تسأل "هل جون يحب وظيفته الجديدة؟"

And you could reply saying, "Yes, he is happy as Larry.

و يمكنك ان تجيب قائلا "نعم هو سعيد كلاري"

"He is as happy as Larry," meaning he is as happy as can be.

"هو سعيد كلاري" يعني انه سعيد كثيرا

The final expression related to happiness

آخر عبارة تعبر عن السعادة

is to be on top of the world.

هي ان تكون على قمة العالم

To be on top of the world and to be

ان تكون على قمة العالم هو ان تكون

on top of the world means, you guessed it guys,

على قمة العالم يعني ، حذرتموها يا شباب

it means to be really, really happy.

يعني ان تكون حقا حقا سعيد

To be just elated, so delighted, so happy.

Yeah, so I would say when I found out that I graduated

from university with a first-class degree,

I was on top of the world.

كنت على قمة العالم

I was really, really amazed, happy, just buzzing.

كنت حقا حقا متفاجيئة و سعيدة
