We're starting with a noun and it is wear and tear.

To detach is to try to be less involved or less concerned about something.

Now, depending on the situation, this could be taken in two ways.

If you describe yourself as tone-deaf when it comes to singing, it means that

With that phrasal verb in particular, it always makes me think of a candle.
