At age four, I found a garden,

నాలుగేళ్ళప్పుడు నేనొక గార్డెన్ కనుగొన్నా

living underneath the kitchen floor.

మా వంటింటి గచ్చు క్రిందిభాగంలో

It was hiding behind leftover patches of linoleum

అది పగిలిన గచ్చుమీద అమ్మ వదిలేసిన

on the worn-out floor my mother was having removed.

మిగిలిన లినోలియం ముక్కల వెనుక దాగివుంది.

The workman was busy when the garden caught my attention.

గార్డెన్ పై నాదృష్టి పడినప్పుడు పనివాడు బిజీగా వున్నాడు.

My eyes became glued to the patterns of embroidered roses

చిన్నప్పటి లాండ్ స్కేప్ కు అడ్డంగా పూసిన

blooming across my childhood landscape.

ఆ గులాబీల విన్యాసానికి నా కళ్ళు అతుక్కుపోయాయి.

I saw them and felt a sense of joy and adventure.

వాటిని చూడగానే నాలో ఆనందం ఉరకలేసింది.

This excitement felt like a feeling to go forward

ఉత్సాహంతో ముందుకెళ్ళాలనిపించింది

into something I knew nothing about.

అప్పుడు దానిగురించి నాకేమీ తెలీదు.

My passion and connection to garden started at that exact moment.

When spring arrived, I ran so fast through the house,

I catapulted out of the front screen door

Excited, I bounced to my feet and flipped three more cartwheels

Mother dear was in the garden

busy breaking up the soil,

It seems that during my childhood,

the blooms from my mother's gardens have healed all the way from her halo

Gardening has taught me that planting and growing a garden

This process of creation begins in the spring,

In the forests,

when trees realize through their roots that another tree is sick,

they will send a portion of their nutrients to that tree

My life's work

is to illustrate how to integrate human connectivity into the garden.
