Fourteen years ago,

Today, I'm going to talk about how to win an argument,

The conventional wisdom is that you speak with confidence.

And because argument is about persuasion,

Displays of emotion fail.

It's kind of like writing an email in all bold and all caps.

Now look, in some settings, the solution is to be emotional.

You're arguing with your parents,

And I went out onto the courthouse steps and there was a media firestorm.

Five hundred cameras, and they're all asking me,

I hadn't had time to read it, nobody had.

Because of that decision,

I'm sorry to say, it's not that simple,

My legal team and others went into court right away and sued,

But he lost because of a simple reason.

Now why was I thinking about that?

Now, not only had the Justice Department said

That's a crucial lesson about arguments -- timing.

When do you make your argument?

I remember reading a column by Ann Coulter about the Muslim ban.

يستحضرني عمود صحفي قرأته بقلم آن كولتر عن قرار حظر المسلمين.

Here's what she said.

وإليكم ما قالته:

"Arguing against Trump was first-generation American,

"ونجد صوت النقد صادحًا من أمريكي من الجيل الأول،

Neal Katyal.

اسمه نيل كاتيال.

There are plenty of 10th-generation America-haters.

الذي قال: "هناك الكثير من كارهي أمريكا من مهاجري الجيل العاشر.

You couldn't get one of them to argue we should end our country

And that's when emotion,

Most of all, I realized,

the only way you can truly lose an argument

So I joined the lawsuit by the US Congress
