सिद्धांत और नियम में क्या अंतर हैं,

and is one better?

कौन सा अच्छा है?

Scientific laws and theories have different jobs to do.

दोनो के काम अलग अलग है.

A scientific law predicts the results of certain initial conditions.

वैज्ञानिक नियम किसी स्थिती के बारे मे बताता है.

It might predict your unborn child's possible hair colors,

यह बता सकता है आपके न जन्मे हुये बच्चे के बाल का रंग क्या हो सकता है.

or how far a baseball travels when launched at a certain angle.

किसी कोण से फेके गये बेसबाल कैसे हवा में जायेगा.

In contrast, a theory tries to provide the most logical explanation

इसके विपरीत सिद्धांत एक प्रकार का तार्किक विवेचन करता है.

about why things happen as they do.

कैसी घटनाये घटती है .

A theory might invoke dominant and recessive genes

जैसे कि जीन के बारे मे बताता है वर्चस्वी जीन तथा ग्राहक जीन

to explain how brown-haired parents ended up with a red-headed child,

In simplest terms,

a law predicts what happens while a theory proposes why.

नियम क्या हुआ यह बताता है सिद्धांत ऐसा क्यो होता है इसपर रोशनी डालता है.

A theory will never grow up into a law,

सिद्धांत का रुपांतर नियम मे कभी नही होता.

though the development of one often triggers progress on the other.

Laws usually resist change

नियम हमेशा बदलाव का प्रतिरोध करते हैं .

since they wouldn't have been adopted if they didn't fit the data,

though we occasionally revise laws in the face of new unexpected information.

लेकिन फिर भी हम समय समय पर उनमे बदलाव करते रहे.

A theory's acceptance, however, is often gladiatorial.

Multiple theories may compete to supply the best explanation

Scientists also like when a new theory successfully predicts

वैज्ञानिको यह भाता है जब नया सिद्धांत पुष्टी करता है.

previously unobserved phenomena,

पहले कभी न देखे गयी घटना के बारे मे

like when Dmitri Mendeleev's theory about the periodic table

जैसे कि आवर्त सारणी के बारे मे दिमित्री मेंडेलीव्ह का सिद्धांत.

predicted several undiscovered elements.

जिसने न खोजे गये तत्वों बारे मे भविष्यवाणी की .

The term scientific theory covers a broad swath.

सिद्धांत का पैमाना बडा होता है .

Some theories are new ideas with little experimental evidence

कुछ सिद्धांत नये होते है उनके साथ जुडा होता है प्रायोगिक अनुभव

that scientists eye with suspicion,

Other theories,

दुसरे सिद्धांत

like those involving the Big Bang, evolution, and climate change,

have endured years of experimental confirmation

before earning acceptance by the majority of the scientific community.

You would need to learn more about a specific explanation

आपको यह जानना जरुरी है किसी खास स्पष्टीकरण के बारे मे

before you'd know how well scientists perceive it.

उसंके पूर्व आपको वैज्ञानिक उसे कैसे स्वीकार करते है जानना पडेगा.

The word theory alone doesn't tell you.

the scientific community has bet on the wrong horse before:

spontaneous generation,

जीवो का उत्स्फूर्त जन्म .

अवकाश मे इथर का होना.

are just a few of many theories discarded in favor of better ones.

यह कुछ सिद्धांत है जिन्हे दुसरे सिद्धांत अच्छे होने पर नकारा गया.

But even incorrect theories have their value.

याद रहे, गलत सिधान्तो का भी योगदान होता है.

Discredited alchemy was the birthplace of modern chemistry,

किमयागार सिद्धांत गलत होने पर भी उसने आधुनिक रसायन विज्ञान की नीव रखी.

and medicine made great strides

दवाई की बडी प्रगती हुई.

long before we understood the roles of bacteria and viruses.

जीवाणू तथा विषाणू के बारे मे हमे जानकारी होने से पूर्व.

That said, better theories often lead to exciting new discoveries

अच्छा सिद्धांत नयी खोज का रास्ता दिखाता है

that were unimaginable under the old way of thinking.

जो बिलकुल भिन्न होता है अपने पुराने विचारो से.

Nor should we assume all of our current scientific theories

आज के अपने सिद्धांत

will stand the test of time.

भविष्य में परखे जायेंगे.

A single unexpected result is enough to challenge the status quo.

किसी एक अवांछित परिणाम भी हमारी धारणा बदल सकता है.

However, vulnerability to some potentially better explanation

लेकिन उससे

doesn't weaken a current scientific theory.

आज के सिद्धांत की शक्ति कम नहीं हो जाती

Instead, it shields science from becoming unchallenged dogma.

क्योंकि वह किसी धार्मिक बेमतलब फतवो से हमारा संरक्षण भी करता है.

A good scientific law is a finely-tuned machine,

एक अच्छा नियम एक अच्छी मशीन की तरह कार्य करता है.

accomplishing its task brilliantly

जो अपना काम बखुबी करता है.

but ignorant of why it works as well as it does.

लेकिन अंजान होता है कि उसका कार्य कैसे होता है.

A good scientific theory is a bruised, but unbowed, fighter

एक अच्छा सिद्धांत जख्मी न झुकनेवाले योद्धा के समान होती है .

who risks defeat if unable to overpower or adapt to the next challenger.

जो तैयार रहती है पराजय के लिए

Though different,

दोनो भिन्न होने पर भी

science needs both laws and theories to understand the whole picture.

नियम और सिद्धांत से वैज्ञानिक किसी घटना के बारे मे अच्छी जानकारी पाते है.

So next time someone comments that it's just a theory,

अगर आपसे कोई कहे "ये तो बस सिद्धांत है "

challenge them to go nine rounds with the champ

तब उसे बाध्य करे नौ बार चर्चा करने के लिए .

and see if they can do any better.

और देखे कि क्या उन्होंने बेहतर किया|
