In this video,, I’m going to talk about the two similar and sometimes confusing English

expressions – ‘since’ and ‘for’.

표현인 'since'와 'for'에 대해 이야기해보려고 합니다.

These two time expressions are  commonly confused in English.

이 두 시간 표현은 일반적으로 영어에서 혼동됩니다.

But after watching this video,  

하지만 이 비디오를 본 후에는

you'll have a good understanding of the  difference and when to use these words.

차이점과 이 단어를 언제 사용해야 하는지 이해하게 될 것입니다.

Let’s get started.

Let’s start with ‘since’

'since'부터 시작하자 '

‘since’ shows when a past action first started.

since'는 과거 동작이 처음 시작된 시점을 나타냅니다.

We always need a starting point with ‘since’

항상 'since'로 시작하는 지점이 필요

so when you use ‘since’, you always  need a specific time expression.

하므로 'since'를 사용할 때는 항상 특정 시간 표현이 필요합니다.

Let's take a look at some example sentences.

몇 가지 예문을 살펴보겠습니다.

The first sentence says,

첫 번째 문장은

‘I have been working since  8 o'clock this morning.’

' 오늘 아침 8시 이후로 일하고 있습니다'입니다. 'since' 뒤에

You'll notice that the specific time expression comes after ‘since’.

특정 시간 표현이 오는 것을 알 수 있습니다 .

And it shows when this person started working.

그리고 이 사람이 언제 일을 시작했는지 보여줍니다.

The next sentence says,

다음 문장은

‘She has been on a diet since August.’

'그녀는 8월부터 다이어트를 하고 있다'입니다.

The specific time expression here is August

여기서 구체적인 시간 표현은 August이고

and it comes after ‘since’.

'since' 뒤에 옵니다.

It shows when she started dieting.

그녀가 다이어트를 시작했을 때를 보여줍니다.

Okay, now, I will talk about ‘for’.

자, 이제 'for'에 대해 이야기하겠습니다. 영어로 시간의 길이를

We use ‘for’ to express a  length of time in English.

표현하기 위해 'for'를 사용합니다 .

It is used to express duration or  how long something has happened.

기간 또는 어떤 일이 발생한 기간을 표현하는 데 사용됩니다.

Let's take a look at some examples.

몇 가지 예를 살펴보겠습니다.

The first sentence says,

첫 번째 문장은

‘I have been working for five hours.’

'I have been working for five hours'입니다.

In this case, we have a duration five hours

이 경우에는 duration이 5시간

and it comes after ‘for’.

이고 'for' 뒤에 옵니다.

The next sentence says,

다음 문장은

‘She has been on a diet for three months’.

'그녀는 3개월 동안 다이어트를 하고 있다'입니다.

Again, we have three months which shows the duration

다시 말하지만, 그녀가 다이어트를 한 기간을 보여주는 3개월이 있습니다

- how long she has been on a diet.

Again, notice it comes after the word ‘for’.

다시 말하지만 'for'라는 단어 뒤에 오는 것에 주목하십시오.

Now, let's do a checkup.

이제 점검을 해보겠습니다.

In this conversation, there are two sentences.

이 대화에는 두 개의 문장이 있습니다.

In one of the sentences, we should use ‘since’

문장 중 하나에서는 'since'를 사용해야

and in the other we should use ‘for’.

하고 다른 문장에서는 'for'를 사용해야 합니다.

Take a moment to think about  where we use ‘since’ and ‘for’.

잠시 시간을 내어 'since'와 'for'를 어디에 사용하는지 생각해 보세요.

‘A' says,

'A'는

‘Have you been working here _blank_ 2008?’

'2008년 _blank_ 여기서 일하셨나요?'라고 말합니다.

You'll notice the specific time expression ‘2008’.

특정 시간 표현인 '2008'을 알 수 있을 것입니다.

Remember, when we use a specific time expression,

특정 시간 표현을 사용할 때

we put ‘since’ before the expression.

표현 앞에 'since'를 붙인다는 점을 기억하세요.

So ‘A’ says,

그래서 'A'는

‘Have you been working here since 2008?’

'2008년부터 여기에서 일했습니까?'라고

‘B’ says, ‘No, I’ve only been  working here _blank_ two weeks.’

말합니다. 'B'는 '아니요, 여기서 _공백_ 2주 동안만 일했습니다.'라고 말합니다.

‘two weeks’ is a duration.

'2주'는 기간입니다.

It shows how long this action has been happening.

이 작업이 발생한 기간을 보여줍니다.

So the best answer here is ‘for’.

따라서 여기서 가장 좋은 대답은 'for'입니다.

‘No, I’ve only been working here for two weeks.’

'아니요, 저는 여기서 일한 지 2주밖에 안 됐어요.'

So let's take a look at the whole conversation.

그럼 전체 대화를 살펴보겠습니다.

‘A’ says,

‘Have you been working here since 2008?’

And ‘B’ says, ‘No, I’ve only  been working here for two weeks.’

Now you know the difference  between ‘since’ and ‘for’.

First, let’s start with ‘accept’.

Listen carefully to how I say it.

It's a verb.

동사입니다.

The main meaning of ‘accept’ is to agree or  receive something that is offered to you.

'수락하다'의 주요 의미는 귀하에게 제공되는 것에 동의하거나 받는 것입니다.

Someone wants to give you  something and you accept.

누군가 당신에게 무언가를 주고 싶어하고 당신은 그것을 받아들입니다.

We accept things.

우리는 물건을 받아들입니다.

Let’s look at some examples.

The first sentence says,

‘I can accept a gift from my friend.’

'나는 내 친구에게서 선물을 받을 수 있다'입니다.

So if a friend offers a gift to you,

you can take it or accept it.

The second sentence says,

‘When Tony asked Leslie to marry him,

Now, I will talk about ‘except’.

Listen to how I say it.

It is often a preposition.

그것은 종종 전치사입니다.

It means to not include something.

Let’s look at some example sentences.

The first sentence says,

‘I like all fruit except grapes.’

'나는 포도를 제외한 모든 과일을 좋아한다'입니다.

So out of all the fruits,

I like them all,

but I don't like grapes.

I am showing that I don't want to  include grapes in this sentence.

The next sentence says,

‘Everyone passed the exam except for Robin.’

'Robin을 제외한 모든 사람이 시험에 합격했습니다.'입니다.

So again, there's a group  and everybody is included

따라서 다시 그룹이 있고 Robin을 제외한 모든 사람이 포함됩니다

except for Robin.

Robin is not included in the  group that passed the exam.

로빈은 시험에 합격한 그룹에 포함되지 않습니다 .

Now, let's do a checkup.

이제 점검을 해보겠습니다.

In this conversation, there are two sentences.

이 대화에는 두 개의 문장이 있습니다.

In one of the sentences, we  should use the word ‘accept’.

문장 중 하나에서 '수락'이라는 단어를 사용해야 합니다.

In the other, we should use ‘except’.

다른 하나는 '제외'를 사용해야 합니다.

Take a moment to think about where  we use ‘accept’ and ‘except’.

잠시 시간을 내어 '수락'과 '제외'를 어디에 사용하는지 생각해 보세요.

‘A’ says,

'A'는

‘Did you _blank_ the new company position?’

'새 회사 직책을 _공백'했습니까?'라고 말합니다.

A new company position is an offer

새 회사 직책은 제안

and someone can choose to take it.

이며 누군가가 수락하도록 선택할 수 있습니다.

In that case, you say ‘accept’.

그런 경우에는 '수락'이라고 말합니다.

‘Did you accept the new company position?’

'새 회사 직책을 수락했습니까?'

‘B’ says, ‘Yes, I now have to  work every day _blank_ Sundays.’

'B'는 '예, 이제 매일_공휴일_일요일에 일해야 합니다.'라고 말합니다.

This person now has to work almost  every day of the week but Sundays.

이 사람은 이제 일요일을 제외하고 거의 모든 요일에 일해야 합니다 .

So we're not including one  of the days of the week.

따라서 요일 중 하나를 포함하지 않습니다 .

And so we use ‘except’.

그래서 우리는 '제외'를 사용합니다.

Again ‘B’ says, ‘Yes, I now have  to work every day except Sundays.’

다시 'B'는 '네, 이제 일요일 빼고 매일 일해야 합니다.'라고 말합니다.

Now, let's take a look at this as a whole.

‘A’ says,

‘Did you accept the new company position?’

And ‘B’ says, ‘Yes, I now have to  work every day except Sundays.’

A quick way to remember ‘affect’ as a verb

is to remember ‘a’ is for action.

'a'가 행동을 위한 것임을 기억하는 것입니다.

Verbs are actions.

동사는 행동입니다.

Let’s look at some examples.

The first sentence says,

‘Junk food affects your health.’

'정크 푸드는 건강에 영향을 미친다'입니다.

We all know that junk food can change our health.

It can make it bad or worse.

The next sentence says,

‘New technologies continue to affect how we live.’

This is something we also know.

New technologies change the way we live.

Now, I will talk about ‘effect’.

Listen carefully to how I say this one,

It's usually a noun.

보통 명사야.

It means a result.

결과를 의미합니다.

Let’s look at some example sentences.

The first sentence says,

‘Pollution has a negative  effect on the environment.’

'오염은 환경에 부정적인 영향을 미친다'라고 말합니다.

We all know that pollution causes  negative results in the environment.

우리 모두는 오염이 환경에 부정적인 결과를 초래한다는 것을 알고 있습니다 .

You'll notice that in this  sentence we used ‘effect’ as a noun

이 문장에서 명사로 '효과'를 사용했음을 알 수 있습니다. 즉

– ‘a negative effect’.

The next sentence says,

다음 문장은

‘Spicy food has a bad effect on my stomach.’

'매운 음식은 위장에 나쁜 영향을 미칩니다.'

For some people spicy food causes  some bad results in the body.

어떤 사람들에게는 매운 음식이 몸에 나쁜 결과를 초래합니다.

So again, we use ‘effect’ like result - a noun.

다시 말하지만 결과 - 명사처럼 '효과'를 사용합니다.

Now, let's do a checkup.

In the sentence below we need  to use ‘effect’ and ‘affect’.

아래 문장에서 '효과'와 '영향'을 사용해야 합니다.

Take a moment to think about  where we use these words.

The sentence says,

‘The _blank_ of the war will _blank_ the economy.’

Take a look at the first ‘blank’.

The _blank_ '

Remember, if there's a ‘the’,

the'가 있으면

we usually need a noun

일반적으로 명사가 필요

so we use ‘effect’.

하므로 'effect'를 사용합니다.

‘The effect of the war…’

'The effect of the war...'

that means the results of the war

전쟁의 결과를 의미하는 '

‘…will _blank_ the economy.’

…

Here we have ‘will’ and so we need a verb.

That's ‘affect’.

‘The effect of the war will affect the economy.’

Now you know the difference  between ‘affect’ and ‘effect’.

It's an adverb.

it means to a large degree or completely.

그것은 상당 부분 또는 완전히를 의미합니다.

It can also mean truly or considerably.

Let’s look at some examples.

The first sentence says,

‘We've had quite a lot of rain this year.’

The word ‘quite’ emphasizes  that there was a lot of rain.

The next sentence says,

‘I hadn't seen Rebecca in quite a while.’

'I hadn't see Rebecca in pretty long'입니다.

Again, ‘quite a while’ emphasizes  that it's been a really long time.

Now, I will talk about the word ‘quiet’.

It is usually an adjective.

It means there is very little or no sound.

Let's take a look at some examples.

The first sentence says,

첫 번째 문장은

‘She spoke in a quiet voice.’

'그녀는 조용한 목소리로 말했다'입니다.

This means that her voice was very little - I almost couldn't hear it.

The next sentence says,

‘It's so quiet without the kids here.’

When the kids are not here, it's quiet.

Now, let's do a checkup.

In the sentence below, we need to fill  in the blanks with ‘quiet’ or ‘quite’.

Take a moment to think about  where these words belong.

이 단어들이 어디에 속하는지 잠시 생각해 보세요.

The first part of the sentence says,

문장의 첫 부분은

‘He's _blank_ intelligent.’

'He's _blank_intelligent'입니다.

I want to use the word that  shows that he's very intelligent,

emphasizing how intelligent this person is.

이 사람이 얼마나 똑똑한지 강조하면서 그가 매우 똑똑하다는 것을 보여주는 단어를 사용하고 싶습니다.

So which word do I use?

그래서 나는 어떤 단어를 사용합니까?

I use ‘quite’.

저는 '아주'를 사용합니다.

‘He's quite intelligent.’

'그는 상당히 똑똑합니다.'

The second part of the sentence says,

문장의 두 번째 부분은

‘but he is a very _blank_ child.’

We need an adjective to describe this child.

이 아이를 설명하려면 형용사가 필요합니다.

‘quiet’ is the right word to use.

So we should say,

‘He's quite intelligent, but  he is a very quiet child.’

Now you know the difference  between ‘quite’ and ‘quiet’.

They can be confusing especially in writing

but now you know how to use them well.

Let’s start with ‘say’.

'말'로 시작합시다.

It is an irregular verb so  the past tense form is ‘said’.

불규칙 동사이므로 과거형은 '말했다'입니다.

It means to speak, express something  in words or to tell someone something.

말하다, 말로 무언가를 표현하다, 또는 누군가에게 무엇인가를 전하다라는 뜻입니다.

Let’s look at some example sentences.

몇 가지 예문을 살펴보겠습니다.

The first sentence says,

첫 번째 문장은 '

‘I’m sorry what did you say?’

미안해 뭐라고 했어?'입니다.

Maybe I couldn't hear you but I want  to know the words that you spoke

못 들었을 수도 있지만 말씀하신 단어를 알고 싶어서

so I say, ‘What did you say?’

'무슨 말씀을 하셨습니까?'라고 말합니다

The next sentence says,

‘My mom said ‘hi’.’

엄마가 '안녕하세요'라고 하셨어요.'

I’m reporting the words that she spoke.

하신 말씀을 전합니다.

‘She said ‘hi’.’

'그녀는 '안녕'이라고 말했다.

Now, I will talk about ‘tell’.

이제 '말하다'에 대해 이야기하겠습니다.

It is also an irregular verb.

불규칙동사이기도 합니다.

The past tense is ‘told’.

과거 시제는 '말했다'입니다. 특히 정보나 지침을 제공할 때

It means to say something to someone

누군가에게 무언가를 말하는 것을 의미합니다

especially when giving  information or instructions.

The first sentence says,

‘He told his mom that he was tired.’

'엄마에게 피곤하다고 말했다.'입니다.

He shared this information with his mom.

So we can use ‘told’.

‘He told his mom that he was tired.’

The next sentence says,

‘Tara told john that she loved him.’

Again, Tara told or gave information to John

Take a moment to think about where  we should use ‘say’ and ‘tell’.

Remember, for ‘say’,

So let's look at the conversation again.

Let’s start with ‘still’.

'여전히'부터 시작하겠습니다.

It is used as an adverb.

부사로 쓰입니다. 과거에

It is used to show situations that started  in the past and continue to the present time.

시작되어 현재까지 계속되는 상황을 표시하는 데 사용됩니다 .

Let’s look at some example sentences.

몇 가지 예문을 살펴보겠습니다.

The first sentence says, ‘It is still snowing.’

첫 번째 문장은 'It is still snowing'입니다.

The word 'still' emphasizes that snowing  started in the past and it continues now.

'still'이라는 단어는 과거에 눈이 내리기 시작했고 지금도 계속되고 있음을 강조합니다.

The next sentence says,

다음 문장은

‘My grandfather still jogs every morning.’

'할아버지는 여전히 매일 아침 조깅을 하신다'입니다.

So here I want to show that my grandfather is old

but he still continues this action now.

Now, I will talk about ‘already’.

It is also an adverb.

We use ‘already’ to refer to something which  has happened before the moment of speaking.

일을 언급하기 위해 '이미'를 사용합니다 .

We use already to emphasize some unexpected or surprising situation.

우리는 예상치 못한 또는 놀라운 상황을 강조하기 위해 이미 사용합니다 .

Let’s look at some examples.

The first sentence says,

첫 번째 문장은

‘Jenny's already here so we can start.’

We didn't expect Jenny to be here but she is here.

Jenny가 여기 있을 줄은 몰랐지만 그녀는 여기 있습니다.

So we want to emphasize that unexpected situation.

The next sentence says,

‘We have just finished dinner  but we're already hungry again.’

so we say, ‘we're already hungry again’.

Now, I will talk about ‘yet’.

이제 '아직'에 대해 이야기하겠습니다.

It is an adverb.

부사입니다.

It is used to ask if something  has happened or occurred.

무슨 일이 있었는지 또는 발생했는지 묻는 데 사용됩니다. 말하는 순간에 어떤 일이 일어나지 않았음을

It can also be used to show  that something has not happened

나타내는 데에도 사용할 수 있습니다

at the moment of speaking.

It is usually placed at the end of a sentence.

일반적으로 문장의 끝에 위치합니다.

Let’s look at some example sentences.

몇 가지 예문을 살펴보겠습니다.

The first sentence says,

첫 번째 문장은

‘She hasn't done her homework yet.’

'She has not done her homework yet'입니다.

The ‘yet’ at the end of this sentence

이 문장 끝에 있는 '아직'은 말하는

shows that at this moment,  at this moment of speaking,

이 순간에

she hasn't completed this task.

그녀가 이 작업을 완료하지 않았음을 나타냅니다.

She hasn't done her homework.

그녀는 숙제를 하지 않았다.

However, it also means that she will do it soon.

그러나 그것은 또한 그녀가 곧 그것을 할 것이라는 것을 의미합니다.

The next sentence says,

‘They haven't woken up yet.’

Similarly, the ‘yet’ at the end of this sentence  means at this time they're still sleeping.

Now you know the difference between ‘still’, ‘already’, and ‘yet’.

Let’s start with ‘borrow’.

'차용'부터 시작하겠습니다.

It is a verb.

동사입니다. 사용 후 돌려줄 계획을

It means to take something from someone with the plan of giving it back after using it.

가지고 누군가에게서 무언가를 가져가는 것을 의미합니다 .

‘borrow’ is similar to the verbs  ‘take’, ‘get’, and ‘receive’.

'borrow'는 동사 'take', 'get', 'receive'와 유사합니다.

Remember, you borrow from someone.

당신은 누군가에게서 빌린다는 것을 기억하십시오.

Let’s look at some examples.

몇 가지 예를 살펴보겠습니다.

The first sentence says,

‘Could I borrow your pen for a minute, please?’

I’m asking if I can take your pen

It's an irregular verb.

The past tense of lend is ‘lent’.

빌려주다의 과거형은 '대출하다'입니다.

It means to give something to someone for a short period of time

누군가에게 어떤 것을 돌려주길 기대하며 잠시 동안 주는 것을 의미합니다

expecting it to be given back.

‘lend’ is similar to the verb ‘give’.

'lend'는 동사 'give'와 유사합니다.

Remember, you lend to someone.

In this case, we use ‘lend’

because lend means to give something to someone

knowing that they'll get it back later.

It's one word and it's an adjective.

It means something that is commonplace or usual.

It's something that's suitable  to be used on ordinary days.

평상시 사용하기에 적합한 것입니다.

Let’s look at some examples.

The first sentence says,

첫 번째 문장은

‘Since we're just walking around town,  I think I’ll wear my everyday shoes.’

'그냥 시내를 돌아다닐 테니 평상용 신발을 신을 것 같아요'입니다.

In this case, the word ‘everyday’  is used to describe these shoes.

이 경우 '일상'이라는 단어가 이 신발을 설명하는 데 사용됩니다.

Here it means these are my usual shoes - you know shoes I wear on a normal day.

여기에서 이것은 이것이 나의 평소 신발이라는 것을 의미합니다 . 제가 평소에 신는 신발을 알고 계실 것입니다.

The next sentence says,

‘The worries of everyday life can drag you down.’

Here ‘everyday’ is used to describe worries.

What kind of worries?

Common worries.

Now, I will talk about ‘every day’.

It is an adverbial phrase about time.

It means each day or daily.

Let’s look at some examples.

The first sentence says,

‘I need to start going to the gym every day.’

Here, it means Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday all the way up till Sunday

- every single day.

And the next sentence says,

‘You need to study English every day.’

'You need to study English every day'입니다.

Just like the first sentence,

It was a regular occurrence  at an earlier stage of life

but not anymore.

Let’s look at some examples.

The first sentence says, ‘I  used to drink green tea.’

첫 번째 문장은 'I used to drink green tea'입니다.

However, because it says ‘used  to’ it means not anymore.

그러나 'used to'라고 하였으니 더는 그렇지 않다는 뜻입니다.

It used to be a regular thing in the past

예전에는 흔한 일이었지만

but I don't drink green tea anymore.

이제는 녹차를 마시지 않습니다.

The next sentence says, ‘Karen  used to play with dolls.’

다음 문장은 'Karen은 인형을 가지고 놀곤 했어요'라고 말합니다.

Again, Karen played with  dolls a lot maybe in the past

다시 말하지만 Karen은 과거에는 인형을 많이 가지고 놀았

but she doesn't play with dolls anymore

지만 더 이상 인형을 가지고 놀지 않기

and that's why we used ‘used to’.

때문에 'used to'를 사용했습니다.

Now, I’ll move on to ‘be used to’.

이제 '익숙하다'로 넘어가겠습니다.

Its form is ‘be’ or ‘get used to’.

형태는 '되다' 또는 '익숙해지다'입니다.

It means that you are accustomed to something.

그것은 당신이 무언가에 익숙하다는 것을 의미합니다.

You don't find it unusual. It's familiar to you.

당신은 그것이 이상하다고 생각하지 않습니다. 그것은 당신에게 친숙합니다.

Let’s look at some examples.

Here, we use the ‘be’ verb ‘she is’.

‘She's used to the heat in the summer.’

'그녀는 여름의 더위에 익숙해져 있다.'

She's accustomed to it.

그녀는 그것에 익숙해져 있다.

Maybe it's because she lived in  a hot place when she was young.

So we need to use ‘used to’.

그래서 '익숙하다'를 사용해야 합니다.

‘I used to have a better work schedule.’

'나는 근무 일정이 더 좋았습니다.' '

‘B’ says, ‘Don't worry. You'll  _blank_ this new schedule soon.’

B'는 '걱정하지 마십시오. 이 새로운 일정은 곧 _blank_하게 될 것입니다.' '

‘B’ is trying to tell ‘A’

B'는 'A'에게

after some time

일정 시간이 지나면

you'll be accustomed to your new schedule.

새로운 일정에 익숙해질 것이라고 말하려고 합니다.

So ‘B’ can say,

그래서 'B'는

‘Don't worry. You'll be used  to this new schedule soon,’

'걱정마. 이 새로운 일정에 곧 익숙해질 것입니다.'

or ‘Don't worry. you'll get  used to this new schedule soon.’

또는 '걱정하지 마세요. 이 새로운 일정에 곧 익숙해질 것입니다.'

So if we look at this conversation altogether,

그래서 이 대화를 전체적으로 보면

‘A’ says,

'A'는

‘I used to have a better work schedule.’

'나는 근무 일정이 더 좋았습니다.'라고

‘B’ says,

말합니다. 'B'는

‘Don't worry. You'll get used  to this new schedule soon.’

'걱정하지 마세요. 이 새로운 일정에 곧 익숙해질 것입니다.'

Now you know the difference  between ‘used to’ and ‘be used to’.

이제 'used to'와 'be used to'의 차이점을 알게 되었습니다.

In this video, I am going to talk about two similar and sometimes confusing English words

이번 영상에서는 비슷하면서도 헷갈릴 수 있는 두 가지 영어 단어인

‘fun’ and ‘funny’.

fun과 funny에 대해 이야기해보려고 합니다.

My students always confuse these two words,

제 학생들은 항상 이 두 단어를 혼동하므로

so I hope to clarify their  meanings and usage in this video.

이 동영상에서 그 의미와 사용법을 명확히 하고자 합니다.

Let’s start with the word ‘fun’.

'재미'라는 단어부터 시작하겠습니다.

It is an uncountable noun or an adjective.

셀 수 없는 명사나 형용사입니다.

It means pleasure and enjoyment.

기쁨과 즐거움을 의미합니다.

Let's take a look at some examples.

몇 가지 예를 살펴보겠습니다.

The first sentence says,

첫 번째 문장은

‘I hope you have fun.’

'재미있길 바래요'입니다.

In this case, it's an uncountable noun.

이 경우 셀 수 없는 명사입니다.

It's something that you can have.

가질 수 있는 것입니다.

It means a good time.

좋은 시간을 의미합니다.

‘I hope you have fun’ means  I hope you have a good time.

'I hope you have fun'은 즐거운 시간을 보내길 바란다는 의미입니다.

‘Studying English is fun.’

'영어 공부는 재미있다.'

In this case, ‘fun’ is used as an adjective.

이 경우 '재미있다'는 형용사로 쓰입니다.

It means an enjoyable time.

즐거운 시간을 의미합니다.

Studying English is an enjoyable  time or it's very enjoyable.

영어 공부는 즐거운 시간이거나 매우 즐겁습니다.

Now I will talk about ‘funny’.

이제 '재미'에 대해 이야기하겠습니다.

It's an adjective which means causing laughter.

웃음을 자아낸다는 뜻의 형용사입니다.

We don't use ‘funny’ to mean enjoyable.

즐겁다는 의미로 '재미있다'를 사용하지 않습니다.

So ‘fun’ and ‘funny’ are a  little different in meaning.

그래서 'fun'과 'funny'는 의미가 조금 다릅니다.

So be careful.

그러니 조심해.

Let’s look at some example sentences.

몇 가지 예문을 살펴보겠습니다.

‘He told a funny joke.’

'재미있는 농담을 하더군요.'

This joke is meant to be funny.

이 농담은 웃기기 위한 것입니다.

It's meant to make people laugh.

사람들을 웃게 하려는 것입니다.

And so we describe it as funny.

그래서 우리는 그것을 재미있다고 묘사합니다.

‘That is a funny TV show.’

'재미있는 TV 프로그램이군요.'

A lot of comedy TV shows make  people laugh. They have jokes.

많은 코미디 TV 프로그램이 사람들을 웃게 만듭니다. 그들은 농담이 있습니다.

And so again, we can describe it as funny.

다시 말하지만 우리는 그것을 재미있다고 표현할 수 있습니다.

Now, let's do a checkup.

이제 점검을 해보겠습니다.

In this conversation, there are two sentences.

이 대화에는 두 개의 문장이 있습니다.

In one of the sentences, we should use ‘fun’.

문장 중 하나에서 '재미'를 사용해야 합니다.

And in the other sentence we should use ‘funny’.

그리고 다른 문장에서는 '재미있다'를 사용해야 합니다.

Take a moment to think about  where we use ‘fun’ and ‘funny’.

잠시 시간을 내어 '재미있다'와 '재미있다'를 어디에 사용하는지 생각해 보세요.

Person ‘A’ says, ‘Did you  have _blank_ at the circus?’

사람 A는 ' 서커스에서 _blank_ 했니?'라고 말합니다.

The word ‘have’ is a clue that we need a noun.

'have'라는 단어는 명사가 필요하다는 단서입니다.

Remember, ‘fun’ can be a noun.

기억하세요, '재미'는 명사가 될 수 있습니다.

‘Did you have fun at the circus?’

'서커스에서 즐거웠어?'

or did you have a good time at the circus?

아니면 서커스에서 즐거웠니?

Person ‘B’ says, ‘Yes, the  clowns were so _blank_.’

B라는 사람은 '그래, 광대들이 너무 _공허했어'라고 말한다.

Clowns make people laugh. They do silly things.

광대는 사람들을 웃게 만든다. 그들은 어리석은 짓을 합니다.

So here, the word to use is ‘funny’.

그래서 여기서 사용할 단어는 '재미있다'입니다.

‘Yes, the clowns were so funny.’

'네, 광대들이 너무 웃겼어요.'

Now you know the difference  between ‘fun’ and ‘funny’.

이제 '재미'와 '재미'의 차이를 알 수 있을 것입니다.

They can be confusing, so please  take the time to use them correctly.

Let’s get started.

시작하자.

Let’s start with ‘hear’. It is an irregular verb. 

'듣다'부터 시작하겠습니다. 불규칙동사입니다.

The past tense is ‘heard’.

과거형은 '들었다'입니다.

When you hear something, noise  is coming into your ears.

무언가를 들을 때 소음이 귀에 들어오는 것입니다.

You are not focused on the noise.

당신은 소음에 집중하지 않습니다.

When you are walking down the street,

길을 걸을 때

you may hear people talking, you may hear birds,

사람들이 말하는 소리, 새소리,

you may hear noise from the traffic,

차에서 나는 소음 등

you hear all different noises.

온갖 소음을 들을 수 있습니다.

Let’s look at some example sentences.

몇 가지 예문을 살펴보겠습니다.

The first sentence says,

첫 번째 문장은

‘I hear someone knocking on my door.’

'누군가가 내 문을 두드리는 소리가 들린다'입니다.

So the sound of the knocking or the noise  of the knocking is coming into your ears,

따라서 노크 소리 또는 노크 소리가 귀에 들리므로 들을

so you can hear it.

수 있습니다.

The next sentence says,

다음 문장은

‘He heard the thunder last night.’

'그는 어젯밤에 천둥 소리를 들었다'입니다.

Thunder is very loud, so again you  will hear the noise of the thunder. 

천둥 소리가 매우 커서 다시 천둥 소리를 듣게 됩니다.

Now, I will talk about ‘listen’.

이제 '듣다'에 대해 이야기하겠습니다.

It is a regular verb

정규동사이고

and the past tense is ‘listened’.

과거형은 '듣다'입니다.

It is usually followed by the preposition ‘to’.

보통 뒤에는 전치사 'to'가 옵니다.

So you say ‘listen to’.

그래서 '듣다'라고 합니다.

When you are listening, you  are trying to hear something.

당신이 듣고 있을 때 당신은 무언가를 듣고자 하는 것입니다.

You are focused. And you really want to hear something clearly.

당신은 집중하고 있습니다. 그리고 당신은 정말로 무언가를 명확하게 듣고 싶어합니다.

You pay attention to listen.

귀를 기울입니다.

Right now, you are listening to me.

바로 지금, 당신은 내 말을 듣고 있습니다.

Let’s look at some example sentences.

몇 가지 예문을 살펴보겠습니다.

The first sentence says,

첫 번째 문장은

‘I always listen carefully  to what my teacher says.’

'나는 항상 선생님의 말씀을 주의 깊게 듣습니다 .'입니다.

In this example, ‘listen’ is just  like focusing or paying attention to.

이 예에서 '듣다'는 집중하거나 주의를 기울이는 것과 같습니다.

The next sentence says,

다음 문장은

‘She usually listens to music before bed.’

'그녀는 보통 자기 전에 음악을 듣습니다'라고 말합니다.

This case also talks about focusing  on the music with their ears.

이 경우도 귀로 음악에 집중하는 것에 대해 이야기합니다 .

Now, let's do a checkup.

이제 점검을 해보겠습니다. 이 문장의 빈칸을 채우기 위해

We need to use ‘listen’ and ‘hear’

'듣다'와 '듣다'를 사용해야 합니다

to fill in the blanks in this sentence.

.

Take a moment to think about where to  use ‘listen’ and where to use ‘hear’. 

'듣기'를 사용할 위치와 '듣기'를 사용할 위치에 대해 잠시 생각해 보세요.

The sentence says,

문장은

‘I am _blank_ to their conversation.’

'I am _blank_ to their conversation'입니다.

Which one means to pay  attention to or to focus on? 

주의를 기울이다 또는 집중하다를 의미하는 것은?

That's ‘listen’.

바로 '듣기'입니다.

So we need to put ‘listen’ in the first blank.

따라서 첫 번째 빈칸에 '듣기'를 넣어야 합니다.

‘I am _blank_ to their conversation.’

'I am _blank_ to their conversation.'

You'll notice it says ‘I am’

'I am'이라고 표시되어 있으므로

so we need to use the present  continuous tense ‘listening’.

현재 시제 'listening'을 사용해야 합니다.

‘I am listening to their conversation.’

'나는 그들의 대화를 듣고 있다.'

The second part of this sentence says,

이 문장의 두 번째 부분은

‘but I can't _blank_ exactly  what they are saying.’

'그러나 나는 그들이 말하는 것을 정확히 _blank_할 수 없습니다 .'라고 말합니다.

Maybe it's noisy outside so it's hard to hear. Remember, ‘hear’ means to take  

아마도 밖이 시끄러워서 잘 들리지 않을 것입니다. 기억하세요. '듣다'는

in the noise with your ears, so the correct answer for the second part is

소음을 귀로 받아들이는 것을 의미 하므로 두 번째 부분의 정답은 '

‘I can't hear exactly what they are saying.’

그들이 말하는 것을 정확히 들을 수 없습니다.'입니다.

Now you know the difference  between ‘hear’ and ‘listen’. 

이제 '듣다'와 '듣다'의 차이를 이해하셨습니다. .

so I’m going to make sure that this  video will clear up any confusion.

Let’s get started.

시작하자.

First, let’s start with ‘look’.

먼저 '보기'부터 시작하겠습니다.

It is used as a regular verb.

일반동사로 쓰입니다.

We use ‘look’ when we direct our eyes at something

우리는 무언가를 바라보고 주의를 기울일 때 'look'을 사용합니다

and pay attention to it.

Let’s look at some examples.

몇 가지 예를 살펴보겠습니다.

The first sentence says,

첫 문장은

‘Look at this old photo of me.’

'나의 이 옛날 사진 좀 봐'.

I am directing your eyes to the photo.

나는 당신의 시선을 사진으로 향하게 합니다.

I want you to pay attention to it with your eyes.

눈으로 주목해 주셨으면 합니다.

‘Look! It's snowing outside.’

'바라보다! 밖에 눈이 와요.'

In the same way I want someone to pay  attention with their eyes at the snow outside.

마찬가지로 눈으로 밖에 눈을 맞춰주셨으면 합니다.

Now, I will talk about ‘see’.

이제 '보다'에 대해 이야기하겠습니다.

It is an irregular verb.

불규칙동사입니다.

The past tense of ‘see’ is ‘saw’.

'보다'의 과거형은 '톱'입니다. 눈으로 무언가를

You should use ‘see’ when you notice or become aware of something with your eyes.

알아차리거나 알게 되었을 때 'see'를 사용해야 합니다 .

You are not looking for it  but you suddenly see it.

당신은 그것을 찾고 있는 것이 아니라 갑자기 그것을 보게 됩니다.

Let’s look at some examples.

몇 가지 예를 살펴보겠습니다.

Let's look at the first sentence.

첫 번째 문장을 봅시다.

It says, ‘I see an airplane in the sky.’

'하늘에 비행기가 보인다'라고 쓰여 있어요.

The person didn't know that  there was an airplane in the sky

하늘에 비행기가 있는 줄 몰랐는데

but they saw it with their eyes.

눈으로 봤어요.

So, ‘I see an airplane in the sky.’

그래서 '하늘에 비행기가 보인다.' '

‘She suddenly saw a dog on the street.’

그녀는 갑자기 길에서 개를 보았다.'

In this example, ‘see’ is  used in the past tense, ‘saw’.

이 예에서 'see'는 과거 시제 'saw'로 사용되었습니다.

‘She suddenly saw a dog on the street.’

'그녀는 갑자기 길에서 개를 보았다.'

She noticed it with her eyes.

그녀는 그것을 눈으로 알아차렸다.

Now, I will talk about ‘watch’.

이제 '시계'에 대해 이야기하겠습니다.

It is a regular verb.

정규동사입니다.

‘watch’ means to look at something for a long time

watch는 무언가를 오랫동안 바라보고 주의를 기울이는 것을 의미합니다

and to pay attention to it.

Right now, you are watching my video.

지금, 당신은 내 비디오를보고 있습니다.

Let’s look at some example sentences.

몇 가지 예문을 살펴보겠습니다.

The first sentence says, ‘I  love to watch my cat play.’

첫 번째 문장은 'I love to watch my cat play'입니다.

This is something I like to do for a long time

이것은 제가 오랫동안 하고 싶은 일입니다.

- look at and watch this happening.

이런 일이 일어나는 것을 보고 지켜보세요.

The next sentence says, ‘I watched  the football game last night.’

다음 문장은 ' 어젯밤에 축구 경기를 봤다'입니다.

Again, it's something that you watch  or pay attention to with your eyes

다시 말하지만

for a long period of time.

오랜 시간 동안 눈으로 보거나 주의를 기울이는 것입니다. 영화, TV, 콘서트에 대해 이야기할

You can use ‘watch’ or ‘see’ when we  talk about movies, TV, and concerts.

때 'watch' 또는 'see'를 사용할 수 있습니다 .

You can say, ‘I watched a movie last night’

'어젯밤에 영화를 봤어요'라고 말하거나

or you can say, ‘I saw a movie last night’.

'어젯밤에 영화를 봤어요'라고 말할 수 있습니다.

So the rules are not so strict in spoken English

따라서

about watching or seeing a movie or tv show.

영화나 TV 쇼를 보거나 보는 것에 대한 규칙은 구어체 영어에서 그렇게 엄격하지 않습니다.

Let's do a checkup.

점검을 해보자.

In this conversation, there are two sentences.

이 대화에는 두 개의 문장이 있습니다.

In these sentences, we should use  the verbs ‘watch’, ‘see’, and ‘look’.

이 문장에서는 'watch', 'see', 'look' 동사를 사용해야 합니다.

Take a moment to think about  where we use these verbs.

이 동사를 어디에 사용하는지 잠시 생각해 보세요.

‘A’ says, ‘_blank_ at the TV.’

'A'는 'TV를 _공백'이라고 말합니다.

‘A’ is directing ‘B’'s eyes to  use his eyes, to look at the TV.

'A'는 'B'의 눈이 자신의 눈을 사용하여 TV를 보도록 지시하고 있습니다.

So again, ‘A’ says, ‘Look at the TV.  You can _blank_ that new TV show.’

그래서 다시 'A'는 'TV를 봐. 새 TV 쇼를 _blank_할 수 있습니다.'

So because this is a TV show

그래서 이것은 TV 쇼이기 때문에

you can say ‘see’ or ‘watch’.

'see' 또는 'watch'라고 말할 수 있습니다.

In this case, let's use ‘watch’.

이 경우 '시계'를 사용합시다.

‘You can watch that new TV show.’

'그 새로운 TV 쇼를 볼 수 있습니다.'

And ‘B’ says, ‘Oh I _blank_ it already.’

그리고 'B'는 '아, 이미 _공백'이라고 말합니다.

Since we already used ‘watch’, let's use ‘see’.

이미 'watch'를 사용했으므로 'see'를 사용하겠습니다.

In this case, the past tense.

이 경우 과거 시제입니다.

‘B’ says, ‘Oh, I saw it already.’

'B'는 '아, 이미 봤어'라고 말합니다.

Now you know the difference  between ‘look’, ‘see’, and ‘watch’.

이제 '봐', '보다', '봐'의 차이점을 알 수 있습니다.
