So today I'm going to give you a lovely long list

of phrases that I've thought of recently.

Now, the first phrase is something that I might have

ခုပထမဆံုးphraseေလးက အရင္videoတစ္ခုမွာ

mentioned in a previous video, but I feel like

ေျပာဖူးတာေလးျဖစ္မွာပါ

it's really important, and extra important,

ဒီphraseကအလြန္ အလြန္အေရးႀကီးပါတယ္

because yesterday I met with friend

ဘာလို႔ဆိုမေန႔ကသူငယ္ခ်င္းတစ္ေယာက္နဲ႔ေတြ႔ေတာ့

and she told me a really funny anecdote.

သူကရယ္စရာအေၾကာင္းအရာေလးေျပာျပပါတယ္

So the phrase is "to be knackered."

Phraseကေတာ့ "to be knackered" ျျဖစ္ပါတယ္

Now, this is informal.

ဒါက informalပါ

It could be considered slightly rude,

အနည္းငယ္႐ိုင္းတယ္လို႔သတ္မွတ္လို႔ရပါတယ္

so be careful where you use it,

ဒါေၾကာင့္သတိထားသံုးပါ

not in professional or educational situations,

အလုပ္ခြင္နဲ႔ပညာေရး နယ္ပယ္မွာမသံုးပါနဲ႔

but maybe around friends and perhaps family.

သူငယ္ခ်င္းေတြ နဲ႔ မိသားစုဝင္ေတြနဲ႔ ေလာက္ပဲ

To be knackered means you're exhausted or really tired,

To be knackered ဆိုတာ အလြန္ပင္ပင္ပန္းပန္းျဖစ္ေနတယ္လို႔ ဆိုလိုတာ

and this is a phrase that I use all the time.

ဒါအျမဲသံုးျဖစ္ေနၾကphraseတစ္ခုပါ

Oh my god, I am knackered.

I am exhausted.

အရမ္းပင္ပန္းလိုက္တာ

The reason that I wanted to mention it

ဒါေလးသင္ေပးရတဲ့အေၾကာင္းအရင္းက

is because a friend was talking to me.

သူငယ္ခ်င္းကေျပာျပတယ္

I think she went on a date or something

သူ Italyလူမ်ိဳးတစ္ေယာက္နဲ႔ဒိတ္လုပ္တယ္ထင္ပါရဲ႕

with an Italian guy, and he said to her after work,

သူ(italyလူမ်ိဳး)က သူ႔(lucy's friend)ကို အလုပ္ကျပန္ေရာက္ေတာ့

"Oh my god, I am absolutely naked."

"Oh my god I am absolutely naked" တဲ့

And naked obviously means you have no clothes on,

Naked ဆိုတာ ကိုယ္ေပၚမွာဘာအဝတ္အစားမွမပါတာကိုေျပာတာပါ

so I just want to reiterate the fact that

Knackered ရဲ႕အသံထြက္က

the pronunciation of knackered

အလြန္အေရးႀကီးတာကို

is really important.

ထပ္တလဲလဲေျပာခ်င္ပါတယ္

You don't want to go telling people you're absolutely naked.

တစ္ကယ္ေတာ့လူေတြကို မင္းကလံုးဝ nakedေနတယ္ ႔ေလ်ွာက္ေျပာခ်င္မွာမဟုတ္ပါဘူး

You want to be knackered.

Knackeredျဖစ္ေနတယ္လို႔ပဲဆိုခ်င္မွာပါ

I thought that was so funny and she said

she did correct him very nicely, so good on her.

Okay, the next phrase is "to be skint."

ဟုတ္ၿပီ ေနာက္တစ္ခုက "to be skint"

If you are skint, you are in a poor financial situation.

Skintျဖစ္တယ္ဆိုတာ ေငြေၾကးဆင္းရဲေနတယ္ လို႔ေျပာခ်င္တာပါ

You have no money or nearly no money.

ေငြေၾကးလံုးဝမ႐ွိ ဒါမွမဟုတ္ မ႐ွိလုနီးပါး ျျဖစ္ေနတာ

So if someone says,

တစ္ေယာက္ေယာက္က

"Do you want to go to the cinema tonight?"

"ဒီည႐ုပ္႐ွင္သြားၾကည့္ၾကမလား"လို႔ေမးရင္

Then I'd say, "I can't, sorry.

"မသြားႏိုင္ဘူး

"I'm absolutely skint."

I'm abosolutely skint (ငါမြဲေနတယ္)"

It means I can't afford it.

မတတ္ႏိုင္ဘူးလို႔ ဆိုလိုတာ

I'm in a really difficult financial situation

ေငြေရးၾကပ္တည္းေနတယ္

and oh my god, I had to use that phrase so frequently

Oh my god ဒီphraseကိုေတာ့ မၾကာခဏသံုးခဲ့ရပါတယ္

when I was at university.

တကၠသိုလ္တက္တုန္းက

I had no money.

ပိုိုက္ဆံလံုးဝမ႐ွိဘူး

Being a student in London is really expensive

Londonမွာေက်ာင္းသားျဖစ္ရတာ အကုန္အက်မ်ားတယ္

and quite a challenge actually.

Challengeတစ္ခုလည္းျဖစ္ခဲ့ပါတယ္

But it did inspire me to work very hard

အဲ့ဒါကပဲ အလုပ္ႀကိဳးစားဖို႔ လႈံေဆာ္ေပးခဲ့တာ

so that I could be financially stable

အနာဂတ္တစ္ ေန႔ေန႔မွာ ေငြေရးေၾကးေရး

one day in the future.

တည္ျမဲလာေအာင္လို႔

Very colloquial.

ေန႔စဥ္သံုးစကားေလးပါ

Not rude, but it's a slang word, and it would be

မ႐ိုင္းဘူး ဒါေပမဲ့ slang wordျဖစ္တဲ့အတြက္ Britishေတြေ႐ွ႕မွာ

really impressive if you can use that around British people.

သြားသံုးျပရင္ေတာ့ သင့္ကိုအထင္ႀကီးသြားမွာ

On the other hand, number three, "to be quids in."

ဆန္႔က်င္ဘက္အေနနဲ႔ သံုးခုေျမာက္က "to be quids in"

Now, quid is a slang term for a pound.

ယေန႔အခါမွာquidက'ေပါင္'(ပိုက္ဆံေငြ)အစားသံုးတဲ့ဗန္းစကားပါ

One quid, one pound.

One quid =one pound

Two quid, two pounds.

Two quid =two pounds

Ten quid, a tenner, ten pounds.

Ten quid =a tenner=ten pounds

A tenner, or a fiver, is more money slang for you.

A tenner(a fiver)ဆိုတဲ့ ပိုက္ဆံနဲ႔ပတ္သက္တဲ့slangတစ္ခုပိုလာပါျၿပီ

But if you are quids in, it means you are

If you are quids in မင္းက႐ုတ္တရတ္

suddenly in a good financial situation.

ေငြေရးေၾကးေရးေကာင္းမြန္လာတယ္ လို႔ဆိုလိုတာ

So maybe you placed a bet at the weekend

စေန တနဂၤေႏြ မွာေလာင္းထားတဲ့ေလာင္းေၾကးကို

and you won and now you are quids in.

သင္ႏိုင္သြားျၿပီး now you are quids in

You've suddenly got lots of money.

႐ုတ္တရက္ျႀကီးပိုက္ဆံအမ်ားျႀကီးရသြားပါျၿပီ

So it's normally used to congratulate people.

ဒါကို လူေတြကိုဂုဏ္ျပဳတဲ့အခါသံုးတယ္

So if somebody wins a competition and they win 100 pounds,

တစ္ေယာက္ေယာက္ကၿပိဳင္ပြဲမွာႏိုင္ၿပီး ေပါင္၁၀၀ရသြားရင္

I say, "Wow, you're quids in, well done."

"Wow you're quids in Well done"

The next one is "to be pants."

ေနာက္တစ္ခု "to be pants"

So I would say maybe,

တစ္ခါတစ္ရံက်ရင္

"Oh, that's pants. (groans)

"Oh that's pants"

"The show was pants."

"The show was pants"

Now, in American English, pants means trousers.

American englishမွာpantsဆိုတာ trousersကိုေျပာတာ

But in British English, pants means underwear.

British Englishမွာေတာ့ pantsဆိုတာ underwearကိုေျပာတာ

Yeah, so if we say something is underwear,

Underwearဆိုလို႔

when I say underwear,

ေျပာခ်င္တာ

I mean like male underwear.

ေယာက်္ားေလးဝတ္ ကိုေျပာခ်င္တာ

I mean like boxers or briefs, normally male,

Boxerတို႔ briefတို႔ကိုဆိုလိုတာ သာမန္အားျဖင့္male

but sometimes female, bottom half underwear.

တစ္ခါတစ္ရံ female bottom half underwearဆိုတာလည္း ႐ွိပါေသးတယ္

So if I'm saying something is pants,

Something is pantsလို႔ေျပာလိုက္ရင္

it means it's rubbish.

It's rubbish လို႔ဆိုလိုတယ္

Really bad.

အရမ္းဆိုးဝါးလိုက္တာ

So it's quite a good way of saying that

တစ္ခုခုကိုမႀကိဳက္ဘူးလို႔ မေျပာဘဲ

you didn't like something,

ေကာင္းေကာင္းမြန္မြန္နည္း နဲ႔ေျပာလိုက္တာပါ

in a kind of jovial sort of way.

ေပါ့ေပါ့ပါးပါးနည္းနဲ႔ေပါ့

It's not very harsh, but then again,

အရမ္းမျပင္းထန္ေပမဲ့

if somebody called my videos pants,

တစ္ေယာက္ေယာက္က ကြၽန္မရဲ႕videoေတြကိုpants႔ေခၚရင္ေတာ့

I would be a bit upset.

စိတ္မေကာင္းေတာ့ျဖစ္မိမွာေပါ့

Because a lot of work goes into them.

ေတာ္ေတာ္ႀကိဳးႀကိဳးစားစားလုပ္ထားတာပါ

I don't expect everyone to like my videos,

လူတိုင္းကိုကြၽန္မရဲ႕videoေတြကိုႀကိဳက္ဖို႔ေမ်ွာ္မလင့္ေပမဲ့

but at least appreciate the effort.

အနည္းဆံုးေတာ့တန္ဖိုးထားေစခ်င္တယ္

Yeah, so it's not so modern.

It has been used for many years.

ဒီphraseကိုသံုးလာျၾကတာႏွစ္ၾကာၿပီ

So don't expect to be all down with the kids,

So don't expect to be all down with the kids

to be down with the kids is to be young and modern,

To be down with the kidsဆိုတာ ငယ္ရြယ္ၿပီးေခတ္ဆန္တာကိုေျပာတာပါ

by using to be pants, but it's a good phrase

To be pants ကေတာ့ phraseေကာင္းတစ္ခုပါ

that you will hear fairly frequently in the UK.

ဒါေၾကာင့္UKမွာေတာ့ခဏခဏၾကားရမွာပါ

Now, the next one is actually a phrasal verb,

ကဲ ေနာက္တစ္ခုက တကယ္ေတာ့ phrasal verbပါ

but it's a slang phrasal verb, so if you didn't think

ဒါေပမဲ့slang တစ္ခုလည္းျဖစ္ပါတယ္ phrasal verbေတြက

that phrasal verbs could get any worse, they can.

slangမျဖစ္ႏိုင္ဘူးလို႔ထင္ရေပမဲ့

We have slang phrasal verbs.

Slang phrasal verbေတြ႐ွိပါတယ္

And this phrasal verb is "to swear down."

အဲ့ဒါကေတာ့ "To swear down"

If I say,

ကြၽန္မက

"I swear down, I did not eat your last pizza slice,"

"I swear down I did not eat your last pizza slice"လို႔ေျပာရင္

I'm saying, "I swear on my heart, I promise you

"ႏွလံုးသားနဲ႔က်ိန္ရဲပါတယ္ ငါကတိေပးပါတယ္" လို႔ေျပာေနတာပါ

"on my dog's life, that I did not do that."

"On my dog's life that I did not do that"

Okay, so it's basically a longer way

အဲ့တာကေတာ့ 'ငါက်ိန္ေျပာရဲပါတယ္'ကို

of saying I swear.

ခပ္႐ွည္႐ွည္ေျပာလိုက္တာပါ

I swear to you. I swear down.

I swear to you I swear down(ငါက်ိန္ေျပာရဲပါတယ္)

The next phrase is "to get one's knickers in a twist."

ေနာက္phraseက "to get one's knickers in a twist"

So if I say to somebody,

တစ္ေယာက္ေယာက္ကို

"Don't get your knickers in a twist."

"Don't get your knickers in a twist"လို႔ေျပာလိုက္ရင္

It's normally aimed at females.

သာမန္အားျဖင့္မိန္းမေတြကိုရည္ရြယ္တာပါ

It means don't get flustered.

ပ်ာယာမခတ္နဲ႔လို႔ ဆိုလိုတာ

Don't get agitated.

စိတ္မပူပန္နဲ ့့

Something that happens to all of us, I can't find my phone.

ကြၽန္မတို႔အားလံုးျဖစ္တတ္တာကေတာ့ 'ဖုန္း႐ွာမေတြ႔ေတာ့ဘူး'

Oh, I just pulled one of my own hairs.

အို ကိုယ့္ဆံပင္ေမြးကိုယ္ဆြဲမိသြားၿပီ

I can't find my phone and I need to leave

ဖုန္းက႐ွာမေတြ႔ဘူး အျပင္သြားရဦးမွာ

and I'm getting in a flap.

ေယာက္ယက္ခက္ေနတာေပါ့

I'm getting flustered, agitated, I'm fussing.

ပ်ာယာခက္ၿပီး ေဒါသေတြထြက္ ပါးစပ္ကပြစိပြစိေျပာ

My boyfriend might say to me,

အဲ့အခါ ရည္းစားက

"Don't get your knickers in a twist, Lucy.

"Don't get your knickers in a twist Lucy"

"Just calm down, and look for it."

"စိတ္ေအးေအးထားၿပီး႐ွာစမ္းပါ"

I think the Americans might say,

အေမရိကန္ေတြကေတာ့

"Don't get your panties in a bunch,"

"Don't get your panties in a bunch"

but I'm not sure.

လို႔သံုးတယ္ထင္တယ္

So this is normally said to females

because obviously we wear knickers,

ဘာေၾကာင့္ဆို ကြၽန္မတို႔က knickersဝတ္တာကိုး

but when it's said to males, it can be

ေယာက်္ားေတြကိုသြားေျပာရင္

slightly more offensive.

ပိုၿပီး စိတ္ဆိုးစရာေကာင္းသြားလိမ့္မယ္

Although it can be offensive to women,

မိန္းမေတြအတြက္လည္းစိတ္ဆိုးစရာဆိုေပမဲ့

depending on how you say it.

ေျပာတဲ့အေပၚမွာမူတည္ၿပီး

But sometimes it's just affectionate.

တစ္ခါတစ္ရံ ၾကင္နာသနားေနတဲ့ပံုျဖစ္ျပန္တယ္

But if you say it to a man,

ေယာက်္ား တစ္ေယာက္ကိုအဲ့ဒါသြားေျပာရင္ေတာ့

it can be used to imply effemininity

မိန္းမဆန္တယ္လို႔သေဘာသြားသက္ေရာက္တယ္

if you know that the implication of femininity

မိန္းမဆန္တယ္သေဘာသက္ေရာက္ေတာ့

towards the man is going to annoy him further.

သူ႔ကိုေဒါသပိုျဖစ္ေစေရာ

So yeah, try not to use it in a patronising way.

ဒါေျၾကာင့္ ခင္မင္ရင္းႏွီးတဲ့ပံုစံနဲ႔သြားမသံုးပါနဲ႔

The next one "to throw a spanner in the works."

ေနာက္တစ္ခု "to throw a spanner in the works"

So you might be doing a task, and then you might say,

သင္ကအလုပ္တစ္ခုလုပ္ေနတယ္ အဲ့ေနာက္သင္က

"Oh, that's thrown a spanner in the works."

"Oh that's thrown a spanner in the works"

It prevents something from happening smoothly.

တစ္ခဳုခုေခ်ာေခ်ာမြတ္မြတ္ျဖစ္ေနတာကိုဟန္႔တားလိုက္တာ

So I could be putting up a picture with a hammer

ဥပမာ ကြၽန္မကတူတစ္လက္နဲ႔ပံုတစ္ပံုခ်ိတ္ေနတယ္ေပါ့

and the hammer breaks, and I'll say,

အဲ့ဒီမွာ တူကခ်ိဳးသြားေရာ

"Oh, that's thrown a spanner in the works."

"Oh that's thrown a spanner in the works"

There I was happily hammering away.

အစကကြၽန္မ ေပ်ာ္ေပ်ာ္ရႊင္ရႊင္သံ႐ိုက္ေနတာ

The picture was going to be up in five minutes,

ေနာက္၅မိနစ္ဆို ပန္းခ်ီကားခ်ိတ္လို႔ၿပီးၿပီ

but now the hammer is broken, so I have to go out,

အခုတူခ်ိဳးသြားေတာ့ အျပင္ထြက္ၿပီး

get a new one, you get the picture.

အသစ္တစ္ေခ်ာင္းဝယ္ၿပီးေတာ့မွ ပံုခ်ိတ္လို႔ရမွာ

The next one is to do with going out.

ေနာက္တစ္ခုကေတာ့ datingလုပ္တာနဲ႔ဆိုင္ပါတယ္

This one is "to be out on the pull."

ဒါကေတာ့ "to be out on the pull"

If you are out on the pull, it means you are

Out on the pullဆိုတာ ရည္းစား႐ွာဖို႔

going to go out with the intention

ရည္ရြယ္ခ်က္နဲ႔

of finding a romantic partner.

အျပင္ထြက္လည္တာ

It means you are actively looking for somebody.

ဆိုလိုတာကေတာ့ partner ႐ွာေနတယ္ေပါ့

So when I was single, I sometimes used to go

ကြၽန္မ singleဘဝတုန္းက မိန္းကေလးသူငယ္ခ်င္းေတြနဲ႔

out on the pull in London with my girlfriends

ရံဖန္ရံခါ Londonမွာ out on the pullလုပ္ေလ့႐ွိပါတယ္

and the place that we always used to

ကြၽန္မတို႔အျမဲသြားေနခဲ့က်ေနရာကေတာ့

go to was Tiger Tiger.

Tiger Tigerပဲျဖစ္ပါတယ္

There was always a great selection there.

အဲ့မွာ အေခ်ာေလးေတြအမ်ားႀကီး႐ွိပါတယ္

So yeah, we always used to go out on the pull

ဒါေၾကာင့္ Tiger Tigerဆီကို out on the pull

(laughs) to Tiger Tiger.

(ရယ္သည္)သြားခဲ့ၾကပါတယ္

I would never go back.

အဲ့ကို လံုးဝထပ္မသြားေတာ့ပါဘူး

Actually, never say never.

တကယ္ေတာ့ လံုးဝဆိုတဲ့စကားကို လံုးဝမေျပာပါ နဲ႔

With the right group of people,

အုပ္စုေကာင္းေကာင္းနဲ႔ဆိုရင္ေတာ့

it would be good fun (laughs)

ေပ်ာ္ဖို႔ေကာင္းတာေပါ့

especially on a Wednesday.

အထူးသျဖင့္ ဗုဒၶဟူး ေန႔မွာ

The next phrase, and I know for sure

ေနာက္တစ္ခု ဒါကေတာ့ေသခ်ာတယ္

that this is used in America as well,

Americaမွာလည္း သံုးတယ္

"you have got to be kidding me."

"You have got to be kidding me"

It means you have to be joking.

အဓိပၸါယ္က မင္း ငါ့ကိုေနာက္ေနတာပဲျဖစ္မယ္

You must be joking.

You must be joking

And it can be used in two ways.

ႏွစ္နည္းသံုးလို႔ရပါတယ္

It can be used to express anger or disbelief.

ေဒါသ သို႔မဟုတ္ မယံုၾကည္မႈကိုေဖာ္ျပတဲ့ေနရာမွာ သံုးပါတယ္

(gasps)

(ပင့္သက္႐ိႈက္သည္)

"I can't believe that.

"I can't believe that.

"You've got to be kidding me!"

You've got to be kidding me"

Or if something's really funny.

တစ္ခုခုရယ္ဖို႔ေကာင္းရင္

(laughs) "You've got to be kidding me!"

(ရယ္လ်က္)"You've got to be kidding me"

So I hope you appreciated my acting skills there.

ကြၽန္မရဲ႕သ႐ုပ္ေဆာင္စြမ္းရည္ေတြသေဘာက်ဖို ေမ်ွာ္လင့္ပါတယ္

I was never that good at drama at school.

ေက်ာင္းမွာတုန္းက dramaအဲ့ေလာက္မေတာ္ခဲ့ဘူး

The next phrase is one, I think when used correctly,

ေနာက္တစ္ခုကေတာ့ မွန္ကန္တဲ့ေနရာမွာသံုးရင္

sounds really good, and it is "rightly so."

ေတာ္ေတာ္ေကာင္းပါတယ္ "rightly so"ပါ

And it's a nice little thing to add on the end of sentences.

စာေၾကာင္းေတြအဆံုးမွာထည့္ေျပာလို႔ ေကာင္းတဲ့ဟာေလးပါ

It means quite rightly, correctly.

အမွန္အကန္ပါဘဲ လို႔အဓိပၸါယ္ရပါတယ္

Everyone's worrying about the pizza getting burnt,

အားလံုးက pizza တူးသြားမွာစိတ္ပူေနၾကတယ္

and rightly so.

အမွန္အကန္ပါဘဲ

There is smoke coming from the kitchen.

မီးဖိုေခ်ာင္ကေန အခိုးအေငြ႔ေတြထြက္လာပါတယ္

You know, it means with reason.

အေၾကာင္းျပခ်က္နဲ႔တြဲသံုးတယ္

The smoke is coming from the kitchen.

မီးခိုးက မီးဖိုေခ်ာင္ကေနထြက္လာတယ္

And rightly so.

အမွန္အကန္ပါဘဲ
