Some of them are going to be quite informal,

Now, the first phrase is something that I might have

mentioned in a previous video, but I feel like

it's really important, and extra important,

because yesterday I met with friend

and she told me a really funny anecdote.

So the phrase is "to be knackered."

好了，第一个短语是：to be knackered (精疲力尽的)

Now, this is informal.

这个短语是非正式的，可能被认为有点无礼的

It could be considered slightly rude,

so be careful where you use it,

所以你要注意何时使用这个短语啦，它不是一个专业的

not in professional or educational situations,

或者特殊场合使用的短语，但是可以和朋友说的

but maybe around friends and perhaps family.

To be knackered means you're exhausted or really tired,

to be knackered意思是非常疲惫的

and this is a phrase that I use all the time.

这个短语是我经常使用的，例如：

oh my god, I'm knackered

Oh my god, I am knackered.

意思是我特别特别的累

I am exhausted.

The reason that I wanted to mention it

我主要想提到是，一个朋友跟我说

is because a friend was talking to me.

I think she went on a date or something

他今天做了很多事情，很累很累

with an Italian guy, and he said to her after work,

下班后，他跟我说：

"Oh my god, I am absolutely naked."

I'm absolutely naked！意思是：我全裸了！

(laughs)

And naked obviously means you have no clothes on,

哈哈😄，其实是他发错了音， 应该是knackered

so I just want to reiterate the fact that

所以，我就想告诉大家一个事实，就是

the pronunciation of knackered

knackered, knackered， 不是naked

is really important.

这是非常非常重要的！

You don't want to go telling people you're absolutely naked.

你绝对不会想让大家知道，你全裸了吧！你要告诉大家

You want to be knackered.

你很累很累了才是！哈哈

I thought that was so funny and she said

我觉得这个特别搞笑，他说他没有搞清楚这个发音

she did correct him very nicely, so good on her.

Okay, the next phrase is "to be skint."

下一个短语是：to be skint

to be skint，如果你很skint

If you are skint, you are in a poor financial situation.

那证明你的经济状况出问题了

You have no money or nearly no money.

你没有钱了

或者基本说你的钱包空了

So if someone says,

如果有人说，今晚我们去电影院吧

"Do you want to go to the cinema tonight?"

Then I'd say, "I can't, sorry.

I can't to be absolutely skint

"I'm absolutely skint."

It means I can't afford it.

意思是：我付不起电影票了

I'm in a really difficult financial situation

我真的有经济问题了

and oh my god, I had to use that phrase so frequently

我在大学期间经常使用这个短语

when I was at university.

我没钱了

I had no money.

Being a student in London is really expensive

在伦敦，当做一个的学生的时候是这样的

在伦敦的花销是很贵的

and quite a challenge actually.

而且是很有挑战的。我当时很努力学习，

But it did inspire me to work very hard

想在将来某一天我没有经济问题就多好

so that I could be financially stable

one day in the future.

Very colloquial.

Not rude, but it's a slang word, and it would be

这个短语没有无礼的意思，仅仅只是一个俚语短语

really impressive if you can use that around British people.

如果你在英国人面前使用这个俚语，他们肯定对你的映象感到超好

On the other hand, number three, "to be quids in."

接着，我们说第三个短语：to be quids in

quids是一个俚语词汇

Now, quid is a slang term for a pound.

意思是：一磅钱，one quids就是一磅钱

One quid, one pound.

Two quid, two pounds.

two quids就是两磅钱

Ten quid, a tenner, ten pounds.

ten quids就是10磅钱

A tenner, or a fiver, is more money slang for you.

这是关于钱的俚语

But if you are quids in, it means you are

但是，如果你说：you are quids in

suddenly in a good financial situation.

那意味着你当前经济状况良好

So maybe you placed a bet at the weekend

所以，你可能会在周末购买一个包

and you won and now you are quids in.

You've suddenly got lots of money.

因为你突然有钱了，你的经济状况还不错。

So it's normally used to congratulate people.

So if somebody wins a competition and they win 100 pounds,

I say, "Wow, you're quids in, well done."

第四短语是：to be pants

The next one is "to be pants."

So I would say maybe,

"Oh, that's pants. (groans)

"The show was pants."

Now, in American English, pants means trousers.

在美国英语中，pants(裤子)意思是trousers(长裤)

But in British English, pants means underwear.

但是在英国英语中，pants意思是

Yeah, so if we say something is underwear,

when I say underwear,

I mean like male underwear.

I mean like boxers or briefs, normally male,

but sometimes female, bottom half underwear.

So if I'm saying something is pants,

it means it's rubbish.

Really bad.

So it's quite a good way of saying that

in a kind of jovial sort of way.

It's not very harsh, but then again,

I would be a bit upset.

Because a lot of work goes into them.

I don't expect everyone to like my videos,

but at least appreciate the effort.

Yeah, so it's not so modern.

在现在的潮流中，这个短语并没有流行很多年

It has been used for many years.

所以，不要期待和小孩一样

So don't expect to be all down with the kids,

期待和小孩一样，就表示你很年轻哦

to be down with the kids is to be young and modern,

很潮流哦

by using to be pants, but it's a good phrase

使用pants是你在这里听到的一个很好的短语

that you will hear fairly frequently in the UK.

因为pants在英国使用的非常频繁

Now, the next one is actually a phrasal verb,

接下来，第五个短语是一个短语动词

but it's a slang phrasal verb, so if you didn't think

它是一个俚语短语动词

that phrasal verbs could get any worse, they can.

但也不仅是一个短语动词，在任何地方，

想使用它，都可以

We have slang phrasal verbs.

And this phrasal verb is "to swear down."

这个短语动词就是 to swear down

to swear down，如果我说to swear down，那就表示

If I say,

"I swear down, I did not eat your last pizza slice,"

我没有吃过或者没有丢掉某片东西

I'm saying, "I swear on my heart, I promise you

如果我说：I'm swearing to my heart

I promise you on my dog night

"on my dog's life, that I did not do that."

I did not do that

Okay, so it's basically a longer way

基本可以说，这是一种发誓

of saying I swear.

I swear to you. I swear down.

I swear to you(我像你保证), I swear down(我像你保证)

The next phrase is "to get one's knickers in a twist."

接下来，第6个短语是to get one's knickers in a twist

(laughs)

So if I say to somebody,

如果我对某人说 don't get your knickers in a twist

"Don't get your knickers in a twist."

正常情况下是用来描述女性朋友的

It's normally aimed at females.

It means don't get flustered.

意思是：不要气馁！不要忧虑！

Don't get agitated.

比如在生活中发生了某些事情

Something that happens to all of us, I can't find my phone.

我就看看我手机

Oh, I just pulled one of my own hairs.

我就是想知道发生了什么

I can't find my phone and I need to leave

我找到我的手机，看看时间，我就要走了，轻拍一下

and I'm getting in a flap.

I'm getting flustered, agitated, I'm fussing.

没事的，别懊恼，别焦虑

我的男朋友可能就会对我说

My boyfriend might say to me,

"Don't get your knickers in a twist, Lucy.

Don't get your knickers in a twist(别为小事儿生气)，先冷静下来，然后向前看

"Just calm down, and look for it."

I think the Americans might say,

我想如果是美国英语的话，应该说：Don't get your pants

"Don't get your panties in a bunch,"

and botch 但是我也不确定

but I'm not sure.

I've seen it online, I have researched it.

But I've never heard an American say it.

So this is normally said to females

这个短语就是用来男性给女性说的话

because obviously we wear knickers,

但是，当用这个短语去说一个男性的话

but when it's said to males, it can be

slightly more offensive.

那可能是有一种攻击性的言语

Although it can be offensive to women,

当然了！对女性朋友说，没事儿的，就看你怎么用啦

depending on how you say it.

But sometimes it's just affectionate.

如果你对男性朋友说这个短语的话

But if you say it to a man,

it can be used to imply effemininity

那得看你和他的熟悉程度啦

if you know that the implication of femininity

这种含义

这个熟悉程度，如果控制不好，可能会引起对方反感

towards the man is going to annoy him further.

So yeah, try not to use it in a patronising way.

The next one "to throw a spanner in the works."

下一个，第7个短语是 to throw a spanner in the works

to throw a spanner in the works

So you might be doing a task, and then you might say,

当你要和某人说话时，你会说

"Oh, that's thrown a spanner in the works."

that's to throw a spanner in the works

It prevents something from happening smoothly.

意思是：顺利地预防了某件事的发生

So I could be putting up a picture with a hammer

如：我有一张画，也有一个锤子

and the hammer breaks, and I'll say,

但是锤子坏了

"Oh, that's thrown a spanner in the works."

我就会说：oh, that throws a spanner in the works

There I was happily hammering away.

The picture was going to be up in five minutes,

但是，如果锤子是好的，这幅画，一分钟内肯定会碎渣渣

but now the hammer is broken, so I have to go out,

但是，现在锤子是坏的。这就说明了：从中捣蛋，使坏计划失败

get a new one, you get the picture.

现在你明白了吧

The next one is to do with going out.

下一个，

This one is "to be out on the pull."

第八个短语是：to go/be out on the pull

If you are out on the pull, it means you are

如果你out on the pull，那意思就是，你将要出门

going to go out with the intention

在短时间内集中精力找到一个浪漫的伴侣

of finding a romantic partner.

It means you are actively looking for somebody.

那意味着，你很幸运，相当幸运

So when I was single, I sometimes used to go

out on the pull in London with my girlfriends

and the place that we always used to

The next phrase, and I know for sure

that this is used in America as well,

"you have got to be kidding me."

you have got to be kidding me

意思是：你一定是在开玩笑吧，肯定是的

It means you have to be joking.

You must be joking.

And it can be used in two ways.

它经常被用在

It can be used to express anger or disbelief.

生气的时候

或者不相信某人/某事的时候，就可以说

(gasps)

"I can't believe that.

oh, you have got to be kidding me

"You've got to be kidding me!"

Or if something's really funny.

或者某件事非常滑稽，你也可以说

(laughs) "You've got to be kidding me!"

you have got to be kidding me

哈哈，我也很希望你能感谢我的表演技巧。有没有很真实

So I hope you appreciated my acting skills there.

之前在学校的时候我从来没有扮演过任何戏剧影片，但是很酷哦

I was never that good at drama at school.

The next phrase is one, I think when used correctly,

接下来，第十个短语是

当你听到某件事很好很好的时候，你就可以说

sounds really good, and it is "rightly so."

rightly so!

And it's a nice little thing to add on the end of sentences.

当然这个短语也可以很优雅加到句子的后面。它的意思是：

It means quite rightly, correctly.

相当对/完全正确。每个人都很担心

Everyone's worrying about the pizza getting burnt,

面包片可以会烤焦，完全是因为

and rightly so.

There is smoke coming from the kitchen.

有一股烟从厨房里冒出来。。。你懂的，因为某些原因

You know, it means with reason.

The smoke is coming from the kitchen.

这股烟是从厨房里冒出来的。。。我完全确定是这样的

And rightly so.

and rightly so。好了，今天的课程就是这些了
