Now, the first phrase is something that I might have

mentioned in a previous video, but I feel like

and this is a phrase that I use all the time.

I am exhausted.

Ako ay sobrang pagod a.

The reason that I wanted to mention it

Ang dahilan kung bakit ito ay isinama ko

is because a friend was talking to me.

I think she went on a date or something

Sa tingin ko ay nakipag-date siya o kaya ay ano

with an Italian guy, and he said to her after work,

"Oh my god, I am absolutely naked."

(laughs)

And naked obviously means you have no clothes on,

so I just want to reiterate the fact that

the pronunciation of knackered

ang tamang bigkas ng knackered

is really important.

napakahalaga no'n.

You don't want to go telling people you're absolutely naked.

You want to be knackered.

Kundi kayo ay pagod na.

(laughs)

I thought that was so funny and she said

Sa tingin ko iyon ay nakakatawa at sinabi niya

she did correct him very nicely, so good on her.

na itinama niya iyon, kaya't mabuti para sa kaniya.

Okay, the next phrase is "to be skint."

Okay, ang sunod na parirala ay "to be skint."

If you are skint, you are in a poor financial situation.

Kung ikaw ay skint, ikaw ay nasa mahirap na pinansiyal na sitwasyon.

You have no money or nearly no money.

Wala kang pera o kaya ay paubos na ang pera mo.

So if someone says,

Kaya kung may nagsabi na,

"Do you want to go to the cinema tonight?"

"Gusto mo bang manood ng sine mamayang gabi?"

Then I'd say, "I can't, sorry.

At sinabi kong, "Hindi, pasensya na,

"I'm absolutely skint."

I'm absolutely skint."

It means I can't afford it.

Ibig sabihin hindi ko na kayang gumastos pa.

I'm in a really difficult financial situation

Ako'y nasa napakahirap na kalagayan sa pinansiyal

and oh my god, I had to use that phrase so frequently

at diyos ko po, madalas kong gamitin ang parilalang iyon

when I was at university.

nung nasa unibersidad pa ako.

I had no money.

Wala akong pera.

Being a student in London is really expensive

Ang pagiging isang estudyante sa London ay napakamahal

and quite a challenge actually.

But it did inspire me to work very hard

On the other hand, number three, "to be quids in."

Now, quid is a slang term for a pound.

One quid, one pound.

Two quid, two pounds.

dalang quids, dalawang pounds.

Ten quid, a tenner, ten pounds.

Sampung guids ay sampung pound.

A tenner, or a fiver, is more money slang for you.

Ito ay salitang balbal para sa pera.

But if you are quids in, it means you are

Pero kung ikaw ay quids in, ibig sabihin,

suddenly in a good financial situation.

ikaw ay nasa isang magandang pinansiyal na sitwasyon o may pera ka.

So maybe you placed a bet at the weekend

Pwedeng ikaw ay tumaya noong katapusan ng linggo

and you won and now you are quids in.

at nanalo ka at ngayon ikaw ay quids in.

You've suddenly got lots of money.

Marami ka ng pera sa isang iglap.

So it's normally used to congratulate people.

Kaya ito ay normal na ginagamit upang batiin ang mga tao.

So if somebody wins a competition and they win 100 pounds,

Kaya't kung may nanalo sa isang patimpalak at nanalo siya ng 100 pounds,

I say, "Wow, you're quids in, well done."

sinasabi kong, "Wow, you're quids in. Well done."

The next one is "to be pants."

Ang susunod ay "to be pants."

So I would say maybe,

Kaya't kung sasabihin kong,

"Oh, that's pants. (groans)

"Oh, that's pants,

"The show was pants."

the show was pants."

Now, in American English, pants means trousers.

Ngayon sa America ang ibig sabihin ng pants ay pantalon.

But in British English, pants means underwear.

Pero sa British English, ang ibig sabihin ng pants ay panloob na damit.

Yeah, so if we say something is underwear,

So kung sasabihin na ang isang bahay ay panloob na damit

when I say underwear,

kapag sinabi kong underwear

I mean like male underwear.

ibig kong sabihin ay panloob na damit ng mga lalake.

I mean like boxers or briefs, normally male,

Ibig sabihin ay boxers o kaya ay briefs

but sometimes female, bottom half underwear.

pero minsan panloob na damit din ng mga babae.

So if I'm saying something is pants,

Kaya kung sinabi kong ang isang bagay ay pants,

it means it's rubbish.

ibig sabihin ay iyon ay basura.

Really bad.

Napakasama.

So it's quite a good way of saying that

Parang ito ay isang magandang paraan para sabihin na

you didn't like something,

may hindi ka nagustuhan,

in a kind of jovial sort of way.

sa isang masayang paraan.

It's not very harsh, but then again,

Hindi iyon malupit, pero muli,

if somebody called my videos pants,

kung may nagsabi na ang mga video ko ay pants,

I would be a bit upset.

medyo sasama ang loob ko.

Because a lot of work goes into them.

Dahil napakaraming trabaho ang kailangan sa bawat isa sa mga videos ko.

I don't expect everyone to like my videos,

Hindi ko naman inaasahan na magugustuhan ng lahat ang video ko,

but at least appreciate the effort.

pero sana pahalagahan ninyo ang efforts ko.

Yeah, so it's not so modern.

Hindi ito masyadong moderno.

It has been used for many years.

Ginagamit na ito sa maraming taon.

So don't expect to be all down with the kids,

Kaya huwag masyadong asahan na para ito sa mga nakakabata,

to be down with the kids is to be young and modern,

ang ibig sabihin ng to be down with the kids ay para maging mas bata o moderno,

by using to be pants, but it's a good phrase

kung gagamitin ang pants, pero ito ay mabuting parirala

that you will hear fairly frequently in the UK.

na maririnig mo ng madalas sa UK.

Now, the next one is actually a phrasal verb,

Ngayon ang susunod ay isa talagang phrasal verb,

but it's a slang phrasal verb, so if you didn't think

pero ito ay salitang balbal, kaya kung hindi niya iniisip

that phrasal verbs could get any worse, they can.

na ang isang phrasal verb ay hindi pwedeng makasama, pwede.

We have slang phrasal verbs.

Mayroon mga phrasal verbs na balbal.

And this phrasal verb is "to swear down."

At ang phrasal verb na ito ay "to swear down."

If I say,

Kung sasabihin ko na,

"I swear down, I did not eat your last pizza slice,"

"I swear down, I did not eat your last pizza slice,

I'm saying, "I swear on my heart, I promise you

sinasabi kong, ""I swear on my heart, I promise you

"on my dog's life, that I did not do that."

"on my dog's life, that I did not do that."

Okay, so it's basically a longer way

Okay, iyon ay isang mahabang paraan

of saying I swear.

para mangako.

I swear to you. I swear down.

Nangangako ako sa 'yo.

The next phrase is "to get one's knickers in a twist."

Ang susunod na parirala ay "to get one's knickers in a twist."

(laughs)

So if I say to somebody,

Kaya't kung may magsabi na

"Don't get your knickers in a twist."

"Don't get your knickers in a twist."

It's normally aimed at females.

Ito ay kadalasan na para sa mga babae.

It means don't get flustered.

Ibig sabihin huwag mabahala.

Don't get agitated.

Huwag mabalisa.

Something that happens to all of us, I can't find my phone.

Ito ay nangyayari sa ating lahat, hindi mahanap ang cellphone.

Oh, I just pulled one of my own hairs.

Oh, nahila ko ang ang buhok ko.

I can't find my phone and I need to leave

Hindi ko mahanap ang cellphone ko at kailangan kong umalis

and I'm getting in a flap.

at ako ay magkakaroon ng flap.

I'm getting flustered, agitated, I'm fussing.

Ako ay nababahala at nababasalita.

My boyfriend might say to me,

Pwedeng sabihin sa aki ng aking kasintahan,

"Don't get your knickers in a twist, Lucy.

"Don't get your knickers in a twist, Lucy.

"Just calm down, and look for it."

I think the Americans might say,

"Don't get your panties in a bunch,"

"Don't get your panties in a bunch,"

but I'm not sure.

pero hindi ako sigurado.

Is there any Americans watching this?

I've seen it online, I have researched it.

So this is normally said to females

So yeah, try not to use it in a patronising way.

The next one "to throw a spanner in the works."

Ang susunod ay "to throw a spanner in the works."

So you might be doing a task, and then you might say,

Ipagpalagay na may ginagawa ka, pwede mong sabihing,

"Oh, that's thrown a spanner in the works."

"Oh, that's thrown a spanner in the works.

It prevents something from happening smoothly.

Pinipigilan nito na mangyari ang isang bagay sa madaling paraan.

So I could be putting up a picture with a hammer

Pwedeng ang paglalagay ng litrato gamit ang martilyo

and the hammer breaks, and I'll say,

at nabali ang martilyo, sasabihin kong,

"Oh, that's thrown a spanner in the works."

"Oh, that's thrown a spanner in the works."

There I was happily hammering away.

Magmamartilyo ka lang

The picture was going to be up in five minutes,

at maisasabit mo ang litrato sa ilang minuto lang

but now the hammer is broken, so I have to go out,

pero nasira ang martilyo, ngayon kailangan ko pang lumabas

get a new one, you get the picture.

The next one is to do with going out.

This one is "to be out on the pull."

Ito ay "to be out on the pull."

If you are out on the pull, it means you are

ibig sabihin n'on ay

going to go out with the intention

of finding a romantic partner.

It means you are actively looking for somebody.

Ibig sabihin ay ikaw ay naghahanap talaga ng kasintahan.

So when I was single, I sometimes used to go

Kaya noong single pa ako, minsan ay lumalabas ako

out on the pull in London with my girlfriends

sa London kasama ang mga kaibigan kong babae

and the place that we always used to

at ang lugar na lagi naming pinupuntahan

go to was Tiger Tiger.

ay ang Tiger Tiger.

There was always a great selection there.

Mayroon laging magandang pagpipilian doon.

So yeah, we always used to go out on the pull

kaya, we always used to go out on the pull.

(laughs) to Tiger Tiger.

to Tiger Tiger.

I would never go back.

Hindi na ako babalik pa.

Actually, never say never.

Sa totoo lang, never say never.

With the right group of people,

Sa mabuting mga tao,

it would be good fun (laughs)

iyon ay talaga namang masaya.

especially on a Wednesday.

The next phrase, and I know for sure

Ang susunod na parirala, ay sigurado akong

that this is used in America as well,

nagagamit din ito sa America,

"you have got to be kidding me."

"you have got to be kidding me."

It means you have to be joking.

Ibig sabihin, baka nagbibiro ka.

You must be joking.

Nagbibiro ka.

And it can be used in two ways.

Pwede itong magamit sa dalawang paraan.

It can be used to express anger or disbelief.

Pwedeng magamit para maipakita ang galit o ang hindi paniniwala

(gasps)

"I can't believe that.

"I can't believe that.

"You've got to be kidding me!"

"You've got to be kidding me!"

Or if something's really funny.

O kaya naman ay kapag nakakatawa.

(laughs) "You've got to be kidding me!"

"You've got to be kidding me!"

So I hope you appreciated my acting skills there.

Kaya sana ma-appreciate ninyo ang acting skills ko doon.

I was never that good at drama at school.

Hindi ako ganoon kagaling sa drama sa eskwelahan.

The next phrase is one, I think when used correctly,

Ang susunod na parirala, sa tingin ko kapag ginamit sa tama,

sounds really good, and it is "rightly so."

ay maganda sa pandinig, at ito ay "rightly so."

And it's a nice little thing to add on the end of sentences.

At iyo ay magandang idugtong sa dulo ng pangungusap.

It means quite rightly, correctly.

Ibig sabihin ay ito ay tama.

Everyone's worrying about the pizza getting burnt,

Ang lahat ay nag-aalala na baka masunog ang pizza,

and rightly so.

at tama ako.

There is smoke coming from the kitchen.

May usok na nagmumula sa kusina.

You know, it means with reason.

alam mo, ibig sabihin, may dahilan.

The smoke is coming from the kitchen.

May usok na nagmumula sa kusina.

And rightly so.

At may dahilan.
