Today’s short lesson is here to do both of those things.

We will look at two interesting phrases

ဒီနေ့ရဲ့ သင်ခန်းစာအတိုလေးကတော့ ဒီနှစ်ခုစလုံးကို လုပ်ဖို့ပါပဲ။

that are used in the English language, both relating to the word ‘read’.

'ဖတ်' ဟူသော စကားလုံးနှင့် သက်ဆိုင်သည့် အင်္ဂလိပ်ဘာသာစကားတွင် အသုံးပြုသည့်

As a verb, the word ‘read’ simply means to follow words on a piece of paper

စိတ်ဝင်စားစရာကောင်းသော စကားစုနှစ်ခုကို ကြည့်ပါမည် ။ ကြိယာတစ်ခုအနေဖြင့်၊ 'ဖတ်' ဟူသော စကားလုံးသည်

that have been written or printed in some way.

တစ်နည်းနည်းဖြင့် ရေးထားသော သို့မဟုတ် ရိုက်နှိပ်ထားသော

To look at something whilst following or observing can also be described as reading.

စာရွက်တစ်ရွက်ပေါ်တွင် စကားလုံးနောက်လိုက်ရန် ရိုးရှင်းစွာဆိုလိုသည် ။ လိုက်ကြည့်နေစဉ် သို့မဟုတ် စောင့်ကြည့်နေစဉ်တွင် တစ်ခုခုကို ကြည့်ရှုရန် စာဖတ်ခြင်းအဖြစ် ဖော်ပြနိုင်သည်။

You might read a book.

စာအုပ်တစ်အုပ် ဖတ်ဖူးတယ်။

You might read some text that has been written down.

ချရေးထားတဲ့ စာသားအချို့ကို သင်ဖတ်နိုင်ပါတယ်။

You can read information in the form of numbers.

အချက်အလက်များကို နံပါတ်များဖြင့် ဖတ်ရှုနိုင်သည်။

Figures and statistics can also be read.

ကိန်းဂဏန်းများနှင့် စာရင်းအင်းများကို ဖတ်ရှုနိုင်သည်။

Reading is part of general comprehension.

စာဖတ်ခြင်းသည် ယေဘူယျနားလည်မှု၏ တစ်စိတ်တစ်ပိုင်းဖြစ်သည်။

You can listen to something being said,

သင်ပြောနေသည့်အရာများကို သင်နားထောင်နိုင်သည်

or you can read something that has been written down.

The first phrase I want to look at is one we often use

ကျွန်တော်ကြည့်လိုသော ပထမစကားစုသည်

before signing a contract or some other type of binding document.

စာချုပ်မချုပ်ဆိုမီ သို့မဟုတ် အခြားစည်းနှောင်ထားသည့် စာရွက်စာတမ်းအမျိုးအစားအချို့ကို မကြာခဏအသုံးပြုလေ့ရှိသည့် စကားစုဖြစ်သည်။

The phrase is ‘always read the small print’.

စကားစုက 'အသေးအမွှားကို အမြဲဖတ်ပါ'။

This particular phrase serves as a very good piece of advice.

ဤစကားစုသည် အလွန်ကောင်းမွန်သော အကြံဉာဏ်တစ်ခုအဖြစ် လုပ်ဆောင်သည်။

Before you go ahead and agree to anything that has been presented to you

စာချုပ်ပုံစံဖြင့် သင်ရှေ့ဆက်ပြီး သင့်ထံတင်ပြထားသည့် မည်သည့်အရာကိုမဆို သဘောတူခြင်းမပြုမီ

in the form of a contract, you must first read the small print.

၊ သင်သည် ပုံနှိပ်အသေးစားကို ဦးစွာဖတ်ရပါမည်။

In this phrase,

ဤစာပိုဒ်တိုတွင်၊

we are saying that you must study everything

စာချုပ်တွင် ရေးထားသမျှကို လေ့လာရမည်ဟုဆိုပါသည်

that has been written in the contract.

။ စကားလုံးများနှင့် စာပိုဒ်တစ်ခုစီကို တစ်ခုပြီးတစ်ခု အနီးကပ်ကြည့်ရပါမည်။

You must look closely at all of the words and each clause one by one.

ဤစာပိုဒ်တိုတွင်၊ သေးငယ်သောပုံနှိပ်မှုသည်

In this phrase, the small print refers to the tiny details

စာချုပ်တွင်ပါရှိသောအမည်များအတွက် အနာဂတ်တွင် ပြဿနာများဖန်တီးနိုင်သည့်

that may in the future create problems for those names that are on the contract.

အသေးစိတ်အသေးစိတ်များကို ရည်ညွှန်းသည် ။

Before agreeing to anything, you must read the small print.

မည်သည့်အရာကိုမျှ သဘောတူခြင်းမပြုမီ၊ သင်သည် သေးငယ်သောပုံနှိပ်စာကို ဖတ်ရပါမည်။

Make sure you understand all of the details contained in the contract

သင့်အမည်ကို မလက်မှတ်ရေးထိုးမီ... အောက်ခြေတွင်

before signing your name... at the bottom.

Another phrase that uses the word ‘read’ is ‘read between the lines’.

။ 'ဖတ်' ဟူသော စကားလုံးကို အသုံးပြုသည့် နောက်ထပ်စကားစုမှာ 'စာကြောင်းများကြားတွင် ဖတ်ရှုရန်' ဖြစ်သည်။

This particular phrase refers to the action

ဤအထူးစကားစုသည်

of looking closely for the hidden meanings contained within something.

တစ်စုံတစ်ခုအတွင်းပါရှိသော ဝှက်ထားသော အဓိပ္ပါယ်များကို အနီးကပ်ရှာဖွေခြင်း၏

This particular phrase is often used figuratively

လုပ်ဆောင်မှုကို ရည်ညွှန်းသည်

as a way of expressing the action, of trying to work out what was actually said,

။ ဤစကားစုကို လုပ်ဆောင်ချက်ကိုဖော်ပြရန်၊ အမှန်တကယ်ပြောခဲ့သည့်အရာကို ဖော်ထုတ်ရန်ကြိုးစားခြင်း

and whether or not there is some hidden meaning contained within.

A person might read between the lines of what has been said to them.

An innocent statement or question might have some hidden agenda.

There might be more to what was said.

We might analyse the actions of someone by reading between the lines.

One is trying to work out whether what was said or done is true or not.

တစ်ခုက ပြောခဲ့တာတွေ၊ လုပ်ခဲ့တာတွေက မှန်သည်ဖြစ်စေ မဟုတ်ဘူးဆိုတာကို ဖော်ထုတ်ဖို့ ကြိုးစားနေပါတယ်။

It is possible to be misled by what a person expresses in any particular moment.

လူတစ်ဦးသည် သီးခြားအခိုက်အတန့်တစ်ခုတွင် ဖော်ပြသည့်အရာဖြင့် လှည့်စားခံရနိုင်သည်။

Only later do we stop to think about that moment.

We analyse what was said.

ငါတို့ပြောတာကို ခွဲခြမ်းစိတ်ဖြာတယ်။

We look for some hidden meaning.

We will read between the lines.

စာကြောင်းများကြားတွင် ဖတ်ပါမည်။

Of course, for most of the time

ဟုတ်ပါတယ်၊ အချိန်အများစုအတွက်

there is nothing being hidden or withheld.

ဖုံးကွယ်ထားခြင်း သို့မဟုတ် ထိန်းသိမ်းထားခြင်းမရှိပါ။

But human nature often causes us to be a little suspicious from time to time.

Sometimes we can't help ourselves.

We must read between the lines.

You might describe these phrases as ‘words of caution’.

A piece of advice or wisdom passed from one person to another

can be described as a word of caution.
