Learn English phrases - 'READ THE SMALL PRINT' / 'READ BETWEEN THE LINES' - with Mr Duncan

I like to think that sometimes my English lessons can offer

Today’s short lesson is here to do both of those things.

આ બંને બાબતો કરવા માટે આજનો ટૂંકો પાઠ અહીં છે.

We will look at two interesting phrases

અમે બે રસપ્રદ શબ્દસમૂહો જોઈશું

that are used in the English language, both relating to the word ‘read’.

જેનો ઉપયોગ અંગ્રેજી ભાષામાં થાય છે, બંને શબ્દ 'રીડ' સાથે સંબંધિત છે.

As a verb, the word ‘read’ simply means to follow words on a piece of paper

ક્રિયાપદ તરીકે, 'વાંચો' શબ્દનો અર્થ ફક્ત કાગળના ટુકડા પરના શબ્દોને અનુસરવા માટે થાય છે

that have been written or printed in some way.

જે કોઈ રીતે લખવામાં અથવા છાપવામાં આવ્યા હોય.

To look at something whilst following or observing can also be described as reading.

અનુસરતી વખતે અથવા અવલોકન કરતી વખતે કંઈક જોવાનું પણ વાંચન તરીકે વર્ણવી શકાય છે.

You might read a book.

તમે એક પુસ્તક વાંચી શકો છો.

You might read some text that has been written down.

તમે અમુક ટેક્સ્ટ વાંચી શકો છો જે લખવામાં આવ્યું છે.

You can read information in the form of numbers.

તમે સંખ્યાઓના સ્વરૂપમાં માહિતી વાંચી શકો છો.

Figures and statistics can also be read.

આંકડાઓ અને આંકડાઓ પણ વાંચી શકાય છે.

Reading is part of general comprehension.

વાંચન એ સામાન્ય સમજણનો ભાગ છે.

You can listen to something being said,

તમે કંઈક કહેવામાં આવી રહ્યું છે તે સાંભળી શકો છો,

or you can read something that has been written down.

અથવા તમે કંઈક વાંચી શકો છો જે લખવામાં આવ્યું છે.

The first phrase I want to look at is one we often use

before signing a contract or some other type of binding document.

The phrase is ‘always read the small print’.

This particular phrase serves as a very good piece of advice.

Before you go ahead and agree to anything that has been presented to you

Before agreeing to anything, you must read the small print.

Another phrase that uses the word ‘read’ is ‘read between the lines’.

This particular phrase refers to the action

This particular phrase is often used figuratively

as a way of expressing the action, of trying to work out what was actually said,

A person might read between the lines of what has been said to them.

One is trying to work out whether what was said or done is true or not.

It is possible to be misled by what a person expresses in any particular moment.

Only later do we stop to think about that moment.

Of course, for most of the time
