There is an ancient proverb that goes.

ရှေးစကားပုံတစ်ခုရှိတယ်။

‘The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step’.

'မိုင်တစ်ထောင်ခရီးသည် ခြေတစ်လှမ်းမှ စတင်သည်'။

This phrase encourages us to recognise the difficulties involved with doing something,

ဤစကားစုသည် တစ်စုံတစ်ခုလုပ်ဆောင်ရာတွင် ပါ၀င်သည့်အခက်အခဲများကို အသိအမှတ်ပြုရန် ကျွန်ုပ်တို့အား အားပေးသည်၊

especially if that thing is going to take a long time to achieve.

အထူးသဖြင့် ထိုအရာသည် အောင်မြင်ရန် အချိန်ကြာမြင့်မည်ဆိုပါက၊

The journey in question can be anything.

ခရီးက ဘာမဆို ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်။

It doesn't have to be an actual journey where you travel to another place.

သင် အခြားတစ်နေရာသို့ သွားသည့် အမှန်တကယ် ခရီးဖြစ်ရန် မလိုပါ။

In a figurative sense, we can describe the journey as something you wish to pursue.

ပုံဆောင်သဘောအရ၊ သင်လိုက်လိုသည့်အရာအဖြစ် ခရီးကို ဖော်ပြနိုင်သည်။

To pursue something is to follow a certain path or road, a goal that you wish to reach,

တစ်စုံတစ်ခုကို လိုက်လျှောက်ရန်ဆိုသည်မှာ တိကျသောလမ်းကြောင်း သို့မဟုတ် လမ်းတစ်ခု၊ သင်ရောက်ရှိလိုသော ပန်းတိုင်တစ်ခု၊

something you are determined to succeed at or achieve.

သင်အောင်မြင်ရန် သို့မဟုတ် အောင်မြင်ရန် စိတ်ပိုင်းဖြတ်ထားသည့် အရာတစ်ခုဖြစ်သည်။

Perhaps you are learning how to do a certain thing.

တစ်ခုခုကို လုပ်နည်းကို သင် သင်ယူနေတာ ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်။

Maybe you wish to learn how to play a certain type of musical instrument.

ဂီတတူရိယာအမျိုးအစားတစ်ခုခုကို တီးခတ်နည်းကို သင်လေ့လာလိုပေမည်။

Maybe there is a subject you wish to be more familiar with.

သင်ပိုမိုရင်းနှီးလိုသော ဘာသာရပ်တစ်ခု ရှိကောင်းရှိနိုင်သည်။

To be familiar with something means to know it well.

တစ်စုံတစ်ခုနှင့် ရင်းနှီးကျွမ်းဝင်ခြင်းဟူသည် ၎င်းကို ကောင်းစွာသိခြင်းပင်ဖြစ်သည်။

No matter what it is you are trying to learn,

သင်လေ့လာရန်ကြိုးစားနေသော်လည်း၊

for most of the time there are very similar rules that must be applied and followed.

အချိန်အများစုတွင် လိုက်နာကျင့်သုံးရမည့် အလားတူစည်းမျဉ်းများရှိပါသည်။

You might have to ask yourself certain questions such as...

'ငါ ဘာလုပ်ချင်တာလဲ'

‘What do I wish to do?’

အစရှိတဲ့ မေးခွန်းအချို့ကို သင့်ကိုယ်သင် မေးနိုင်ပါလိမ့်မယ်။

‘What is it I want to achieve?’

'ဘာကို လိုချင်တာလဲ။'

‘What do I want to get from this particular thing?’

'ဒီအရာကနေ ငါ ဘာရချင်တာလဲ။'

There is normally some type of goal involved in anything you are keen to learn.

သင် သင်ယူလိုသော မည်သည့်အရာတွင်မဆို ပါဝင်ပတ်သက်သည့် ရည်မှန်းချက်အချို့မှာ ပုံမှန်အားဖြင့် ရှိပါသည်။

It is always good to focus on the final outcome of what it is you wish to achieve.

သင်အောင်မြင်လိုသည့်အရာ၏ နောက်ဆုံးရလဒ်ကို အာရုံစိုက်ခြင်းသည် အမြဲတမ်းကောင်းသည်။

The end result is often referred to as ‘the goal’ or ‘the outcome’.

နောက်ဆုံးရလဒ်ကို 'ပန်းတိုင်' သို့မဟုတ် 'ရလဒ်' ဟု မကြာခဏရည်ညွှန်းသည်။

As I mentioned at the start of this lesson, all these learning journeys begin with the first step.

ဒီသင်ခန်းစာရဲ့အစမှာ ကျွန်တော်ပြောခဲ့သလိုပဲ၊ ဒီလေ့လာရေးခရီးတွေအားလုံးက ပထမခြေလှမ်းနဲ့စတယ်။

For many people, this is the hardest part of doing something.

လူများစွာအတွက်၊ ဤအရာသည် တစ်ခုခုလုပ်ရန် အခက်ခဲဆုံးအပိုင်းဖြစ်သည်။

Taking that first step forward can be quite daunting.

ဒီပထမခြေလှမ်းကို လှမ်းဖို့က တော်တော်ကို ခဲယဉ်းပါတယ်။

Something that is daunting relates to a thing that creates fear or anxiety.

ကြောက်စရာကောင်းတဲ့အရာဟာ ကြောက်ရွံ့မှု သို့မဟုတ် စိုးရိမ်ပူပန်မှုကို ဖြစ်စေတဲ့အရာတစ်ခုနဲ့ ဆက်စပ်နေပါတယ်။

That first step forward can be the hardest thing to do.

ဒီရှေ့ဆက်ရမယ့် ပထမခြေလှမ်းက အခက်ခဲဆုံးပါပဲ။

However, after a while you will realise that there was nothing to worry about.

သို့သော်လည်း အချိန်အတော်ကြာပြီးနောက်တွင် စိတ်ပူစရာ ဘာမှမရှိတော့ကြောင်း သင်သဘောပေါက်လာပါလိမ့်မည်။

As you continue with your journey of discovery, you will realise that there was nothing to be afraid of.

မင်းရဲ့ရှာဖွေတွေ့ရှိမှုခရီးကို ဆက်သွားတဲ့အခါ ကြောက်စရာဘာမှမရှိဘူးဆိုတာကို မင်းသဘောပေါက်လာလိမ့်မယ်။

You might say that learning English is very similar to taking a long journey, in that it may seem daunting at first,

အင်္ဂလိပ်စာလေ့လာခြင်းသည် ခရီးရှည်သွားခြင်းနှင့် အလွန်ဆင်တူသည်ဟု သင်ပြောနိုင်သော်လည်း အစပိုင်းတွင် တုန်လှုပ်ဖွယ်ဟုထင်ရသော်လည်း

but generally over time you will realise that as you continue your studies, there will always be something interesting to discover on the way.

အချိန်ကြာလာသည်နှင့်အမျှ သင်ဆက်လက်လေ့လာနေပါက လမ်းခရီးတွင် စိတ်ဝင်စားစရာအရာများ အမြဲရှိနေမည်ဖြစ်ကြောင်း သင်သဘောပေါက်လာမည်ဖြစ်သည်။

From my own experience of learning new things, I have found that the hardest point of doing anything is normally at the start.

အသစ်အသစ်သောအရာများကို သင်ယူခြင်း၏ ကိုယ်ပိုင်အတွေ့အကြုံမှ၊ မည်သည့်အရာမဆို လုပ်ဆောင်ရန် အခက်ခဲဆုံးအချက်မှာ ပုံမှန်အားဖြင့် အစတွင်ဖြစ်ကြောင်း တွေ့ရှိခဲ့သည်။

Sometimes I find it hard to motivate myself to try something new.

တစ်ခါတလေမှာ အသစ်အဆန်းတွေကို ကြိုးစားဖို့ ကိုယ့်ကိုယ်ကိုယ် တွန်းအားပေးဖို့ ခက်တယ်။

Motivation is what pushes you forward, and it is the thing that helps you continue as you go along.

Motivation သည် သင့်အား ရှေ့သို့ တွန်းပို့သော အရာဖြစ်ပြီး ၎င်းသည် သင်ဆက်လက်လျှောက်လှမ်းရာတွင် ကူညီပေးသည့် အရာဖြစ်သည်။

Whilst learning English, try to find things that interest you to learn English with.

အင်္ဂလိပ်စာလေ့လာနေစဉ်အတွင်း သင်စိတ်ဝင်စားမည့်အင်္ဂလိပ်စာကို လေ့လာရန်ကြိုးစားပါ။

Perhaps there is a subject you are interested in or something you are keen to learn more about.

သင်စိတ်ဝင်စားသည့် ဘာသာရပ်တစ်ခု သို့မဟုတ် သင်ပိုမိုလေ့လာလိုသော ဘာသာရပ်တစ်ခု ရှိကောင်းရှိနိုင်သည်။

It is possible to learn English whilst studying something you have a strong interest in.

သင်စိတ်ဝင်စားတဲ့ ဘာသာရပ်တစ်ခုခုကို လေ့လာရင်းနဲ့ အင်္ဂလိပ်စာကို သင်ယူနိုင်ပါတယ်။

Read some books in English about your favourite subject, whatever that subject happens to be.

သင်နှစ်သက်တဲ့ ဘာသာရပ်အကြောင်း အင်္ဂလိပ်လို စာအုပ်အချို့ကို ဖတ်ရှုပါ။

You can learn words connected to a subject you are interested in,

သဘာဝ၊ သမိုင်း၊ သိပ္ပံနှင့် သင်နှစ်သက်သော ဝါသနာနှင့် ဆက်စပ်သည်ဖြစ်စေ

whether it is connected to nature, history, science or your own favourite hobby.

သင်စိတ်ဝင်စားသော ဘာသာရပ်တစ်ခုနှင့် ချိတ်ဆက်ထားသော စကားလုံးများကို သင်ယူနိုင်သည် ။

As I always say, when you are learning anything new, you must give yourself time to concentrate and absorb the subject being studied.

ကျွန်တော်အမြဲပြောသလိုပဲ အသစ်အဆန်းတစ်ခုခုကို သင်ယူနေချိန်မှာ သင်လေ့လာနေတဲ့ ဘာသာရပ်ကို အာရုံစူးစိုက်ပြီး စုပ်ယူဖို့ သင့်ကိုယ်သင် အချိန်ပေးရပါမယ်။

Be prepared to make mistakes, as this is quite often one of the best ways to learn anything.

ဘာမဆို သင်ယူဖို့ အကောင်းဆုံးနည်းလမ်းတွေထဲက တစ်ခုမို့ အမှားလုပ်မိဖို့ ပြင်ဆင်ထားပါ။

နှစ်များတစ်လျှောက် YouTube တွင် ကျွန်ုပ်၏အလုပ်၏တစ်စိတ်တစ်ပိုင်းအနေဖြင့် ကျွမ်းကျင်မှုအသစ်များစွာကို သင်ယူခဲ့ရပါသည်။

Everything was difficult at the start, but over time, I realised that it is possible to learn a new skill

အစပိုင်းမှာတော့ အရာအားလုံးက ခက်ခဲခဲ့ပေမယ့် အချိန်ကြာလာတာနဲ့အမျှ

if you have the right frame of mind and plenty of motivation.

သင့်မှာ မှန်ကန်တဲ့စိတ်ထားနဲ့ လှုံ့ဆော်မှုများစွာရှိမယ်ဆိုရင် ကျွမ်းကျင်မှုအသစ်တစ်ခုကို သင်ယူနိုင်တယ်ဆိုတာကို နားလည်လာခဲ့ပါတယ်။

Your frame of mind refers to the way you view the thing you are studying.

သင့်စိတ်၏မူဘောင်သည် သင်လေ့လာနေသည့်အရာအား သင်ရှုမြင်ပုံကို ရည်ညွှန်းသည်။

Once you realise that there is nothing stopping you from learning new things, all that exists out there will open up in front of you.

အသစ်အသစ်သောအရာများကို လေ့လာသင်ယူခြင်းမှ တားဆီးပိတ်ပင်ခြင်းမရှိကြောင်း သင်သဘောပေါက်ပြီးသည်နှင့် အပြင်တွင်ရှိသောအရာအားလုံးသည် သင့်ရှေ့တွင် ပွင့်လာမည်ဖြစ်သည်။

Don't delay. Don't hesitate.

မနှောင့်နှေးပါနဲ့။ တွန့်ဆုတ်မနေပါနဲ့။

Just go for it.

သွားလိုက်ပါ။

Once you realise that the world is your oyster...

ကမ္ဘာကြီးက မင်းရဲ့ ကမာကောင်တွေဆိုတာ မင်းသဘောပေါက်ပြီးတာနဲ့

...there will be nothing to stop you.
