There is an ancient proverb that goes.

هناك مثل قديم يقول.

‘The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step’.

"رحلة الألف ميل تبدأ بخطوة واحدة".

This phrase encourages us to recognise the difficulties involved with doing something,

تشجعنا هذه العبارة على إدراك الصعوبات التي ينطوي عليها القيام بشيء ما،

especially if that thing is going to take a long time to achieve.

خاصة إذا كان هذا الشيء سيستغرق وقتًا طويلاً لتحقيقه.

The journey in question can be anything.

الرحلة المعنية يمكن أن تكون أي شيء.

It doesn't have to be an actual journey where you travel to another place.

لا يجب أن تكون رحلة فعلية حيث تسافر إلى مكان آخر.

In a figurative sense, we can describe the journey as something you wish to pursue.

بالمعنى المجازي، يمكننا وصف الرحلة بأنها شيء ترغب في متابعته.

To pursue something is to follow a certain path or road, a goal that you wish to reach,

إن السعي وراء شيء ما هو اتباع مسار أو طريق معين، أو هدف ترغب في الوصول إليه، أو

something you are determined to succeed at or achieve.

شيء عقدت العزم على النجاح فيه أو تحقيقه.

Perhaps you are learning how to do a certain thing.

ربما تتعلم كيفية القيام بشيء معين.

Maybe you wish to learn how to play a certain type of musical instrument.

ربما ترغب في تعلم كيفية العزف على نوع معين من الآلات الموسيقية.

Maybe there is a subject you wish to be more familiar with.

ربما هناك موضوع ترغب في أن تكون أكثر دراية به.

To be familiar with something means to know it well.

أن تكون على دراية بشيء ما يعني أن تعرفه جيدًا.

No matter what it is you are trying to learn,

بغض النظر عما تحاول تعلمه،

for most of the time there are very similar rules that must be applied and followed.

ففي معظم الأوقات توجد قواعد متشابهة جدًا يجب تطبيقها واتباعها.

You might have to ask yourself certain questions such as...

قد يتعين عليك أن تسأل نفسك أسئلة معينة مثل...

‘What do I wish to do?’

"ماذا أرغب في القيام به؟"

‘What is it I want to achieve?’

"ما هو الشيء الذي أريد تحقيقه؟"

‘What do I want to get from this particular thing?’

"ما الذي أريد الحصول عليه من هذا الشيء بالذات؟"

There is normally some type of goal involved in anything you are keen to learn.

عادةً ما يكون هناك نوع من الأهداف المتضمنة في أي شيء ترغب في تعلمه.

It is always good to focus on the final outcome of what it is you wish to achieve.

من الجيد دائمًا التركيز على النتيجة النهائية لما ترغب في تحقيقه.

The end result is often referred to as ‘the goal’ or ‘the outcome’.

غالبًا ما يُشار إلى النتيجة النهائية باسم "الهدف" أو "النتيجة".

As I mentioned at the start of this lesson, all these learning journeys begin with the first step.

وكما ذكرت في بداية هذا الدرس، فإن كل رحلات التعلم هذه تبدأ بالخطوة الأولى.

For many people, this is the hardest part of doing something.

بالنسبة لكثير من الناس، هذا هو الجزء الأصعب من القيام بشيء ما.

Taking that first step forward can be quite daunting.

قد يكون اتخاذ هذه الخطوة الأولى للأمام أمرًا شاقًا للغاية.

Something that is daunting relates to a thing that creates fear or anxiety.

الشيء المخيف يتعلق بشيء يسبب الخوف أو القلق.

That first step forward can be the hardest thing to do.

يمكن أن تكون هذه الخطوة الأولى للأمام هي أصعب شيء يمكن القيام به.

However, after a while you will realise that there was nothing to worry about.

ومع ذلك، بعد فترة من الوقت سوف تدرك أنه لا يوجد شيء يدعو للقلق.

As you continue with your journey of discovery, you will realise that there was nothing to be afraid of.

ومع استمرارك في رحلتك الاستكشافية، ستدرك أنه لا يوجد ما يدعو للخوف.

You might say that learning English is very similar to taking a long journey, in that it may seem daunting at first,

قد تقول إن تعلم اللغة الإنجليزية يشبه إلى حد كبير القيام برحلة طويلة، حيث قد يبدو الأمر شاقًا في البداية،

but generally over time you will realise that as you continue your studies, there will always be something interesting to discover on the way.

ولكن بشكل عام مع مرور الوقت ستدرك أنه مع استمرارك في دراستك، سيكون هناك دائمًا شيء مثير للاهتمام لتكتشفه في الطريق.

From my own experience of learning new things, I have found that the hardest point of doing anything is normally at the start.

من تجربتي الخاصة في تعلم أشياء جديدة، وجدت أن أصعب نقطة في القيام بأي شيء هي عادة في البداية.

Sometimes I find it hard to motivate myself to try something new.

في بعض الأحيان أجد صعوبة في تحفيز نفسي لتجربة شيء جديد.

Motivation is what pushes you forward, and it is the thing that helps you continue as you go along.

الدافع هو ما يدفعك إلى الأمام، وهو الشيء الذي يساعدك على الاستمرار في المضي قدمًا.

Whilst learning English, try to find things that interest you to learn English with.

أثناء تعلم اللغة الإنجليزية، حاول العثور على الأشياء التي تهمك لتعلم اللغة الإنجليزية.

Perhaps there is a subject you are interested in or something you are keen to learn more about.

ربما هناك موضوع أنت مهتم به أو شيء تحرص على معرفة المزيد عنه.

It is possible to learn English whilst studying something you have a strong interest in.

من الممكن تعلم اللغة الإنجليزية أثناء دراسة شيء لديك اهتمام كبير به.

Read some books in English about your favourite subject, whatever that subject happens to be.

اقرأ بعض الكتب باللغة الإنجليزية حول موضوعك المفضل، مهما كان هذا الموضوع.

You can learn words connected to a subject you are interested in,

يمكنك تعلم كلمات مرتبطة بموضوع يثير اهتمامك،

whether it is connected to nature, history, science or your own favourite hobby.

سواء كان مرتبطًا بالطبيعة أو التاريخ أو العلوم أو هوايتك المفضلة.

As I always say, when you are learning anything new, you must give yourself time to concentrate and absorb the subject being studied.

وكما أقول دائمًا، عندما تتعلم شيئًا جديدًا، يجب أن تمنح نفسك وقتًا للتركيز واستيعاب الموضوع الذي تدرسه.

Be prepared to make mistakes, as this is quite often one of the best ways to learn anything.

كن مستعدًا لارتكاب الأخطاء، لأن هذه غالبًا ما تكون إحدى أفضل الطرق لتعلم أي شيء.

Everything was difficult at the start, but over time, I realised that it is possible to learn a new skill

if you have the right frame of mind and plenty of motivation.

إذا كان لديك الإطار الذهني المناسب والكثير من التحفيز.

Your frame of mind refers to the way you view the thing you are studying.

يشير إطار عقلك إلى الطريقة التي تنظر بها إلى الشيء الذي تدرسه.

Once you realise that there is nothing stopping you from learning new things, all that exists out there will open up in front of you.

بمجرد أن تدرك أنه لا يوجد شيء يمنعك من تعلم أشياء جديدة، كل ما هو موجود سوف ينفتح أمامك.

Don't delay. Don't hesitate.

لا تتأخر. لا تتردد.

Just go for it.

Once you realise that the world is your oyster...
