Today I've got another short and snappy lesson for you.

ئەمڕۆ وانەیەکی تری کورت و خێرام هەیە بۆ ئێوە

We're going to go over ten common collocations

بەسەر ڕێکخستنە باوەکانا (ڕیزکردنی ئەو وشانەی کە زۆر بەیەکەوە بەکاردێن) دەچینەوە

with the verb, 'take'.

لەگەڵ کرداری (take) دا

So really simply, collocations are words that are often

زۆر سادەیە ، (ڕێکخستنی وشەکان ) ئەووشانەن کە زۆر

used together in everyday language.

بەکاردێن بەیەکەوە لە زمانی ئاسای ڕۆژانە

So if you're learning English as a second language, then

بۆیە ئەگەر تۆ ئینگلیزی فێردەبی وەکو زمانی دووەم ، ئەو کاتە

learning collocations is a really useful way to practise

فێربوونی (ڕیکخستنی وشە باوەکان) رێگایەکی زۆر بەسودە بۆ ڕاهێنان

using English words together correctly.

بەکارهێنانی وشە ئینگلیزیەکان بەیەکەوە بە دروستی

So for example, in English we use the verb 'take' with

بۆ نموونە ، لە ئینگلیزیدا ئێمە کرداری (take) بەکاردەهێنین لەگەڵ

'photo', right? We take photos.

photo , ڕاستە؟ وەکو we take photos

We don't say "Do a photo" or "Make a photo" or

ئێمە ناڵێین do a photo, make a photo یاخود

"Click a photo"

click a photo

So by learning words in groups, together with the words

بۆیە بە فێربوونی وشەکان لە گروپدا بەیەکەوە لەگەڵ ئەو وشانەی

that they are often used with,

کە بەزۆری بەکاردێن لەگەڵی

well, you're going to be taking a huge step towards

بەرەو هەنگاوێکی گەورەت دەبا

sounding more fluent and more natural

بۆ زیاتر بەباشی ئاخافتن و زیاتر سروشتی

when you use English.

کاتێک ئینگلیزی بەکاردەهێنیت

Today we're going to focus on the verb, 'take'.

ئەمرۆ تیشکدەخەینە سەر کرداری take

Now that is a super common English verb, right?

ئێستا کرداریکی ئینگلیزی زۆر باوە، ڕاستە؟

But it means that it's also really noticeable

بەڵام ماناکەی بەڕاستی بەرچاوە (دیارە)

if you start using it a little weirdly in English sentences.

گەر دەسبکەی بەبەکارهێنانی بە شێوەیەکی نامۆ

So let's dive in!

با دەستپێبکەین

Before we get started, a super quick reminder to

پێش ئەوەی دەسپێبکەین بیرهێنەرەوەیەکی زۆر خێرا بۆ

Alright, first up

زۆرباشە، سەرەتا

I'm going to highlight some nouns which are often

هەندێک ناو دیاری دەکەم کە زۆر

used with the verb 'take'.

بەکاردێت لەگەڵ کرداری take

We take advice. We take a break.

we take advice,we take a break

We take an interest. We take a look,

we take an interest , we take a look

a class, a test.

a class,a test

These are really common nouns that the verb

ئەم ناوانە زۆر باون کە کرداری

'take' is used with.

take یان لەگەڵدا بەکاردێ

Now when you take someone's advice,

کاتێک تۆ ڕێنمای کەسێک وەردەگری

you listen to them.

تۆ گوێیان بۆ دەگری

You follow their recommendations, you do

تۆ گوێ لە پێشنیازیان دەگری، تۆ

what they say that you should do.

ئەوە دەکەی کە دەیڵێن و دەبێت بیکەیت

Don't take her advice about money, she has no idea.

ڕێنمای ئەو دەربارەی پارە وەرمەگرە، هیچی لێنازانێت

Now if you're giving advice to someone

ئێستا ئەگەر تۆ ئامۆژگاری کەسێک بکەیت

and you want them to know that you've got

وە بتەوێت بزانن کە تۆ

the experience on this issue

ئەزموونت هەیە لەم بابەتەدا

and you know what you're talking about, you can say

وە تۆ دەزانی دەربارەی چی قسەکەی دەتوانیت بڵێی

"Take it from me"

لە منی وەربگرە

Take it from me, I know what I'm talking about.

لەمنی وەربگرە دەزانم باسی چی دەکەم

Now here in this sentence, 'it' is actually in place

ئێستا لەم ڕستەیەدا it لەڕاستیدا لەجێگەی

of 'advice'. You're saying take advice from me.

advise , تۆ دەڵێیت ئامۆژگاری لە من وەربگرە

Take my advice because I have the experience.

ئامۆژگاری من وەرگرە چونکە ئەزموونم هەیە

When you take an interest in something, well

کاتێک تۆ چێژ لە هەندێک شت وەرەگری،باشە

you're interested in it, right?

تۆ چێژی لێ ئەبینی، ڕاستە؟

My fiance Shah is an excellent cook, lucky me,

دەزگیرانەکەم شا چێشتلێنەرێکی نایابە، بە شانسم

but it's his hobby. He loves to cook.

بەڵام ئەمە خولیایەتی ، زۆری حەزی لە چێشتلێنانە

He started to take an interest in cooking

دەستیکرد بە چێژبینین (حەزکردن ) لە چێشتلێنان

when he was a young boy.

کاتێک کوڕێکی گەنج بوو

His grandmother taught him how to cook so he's

نەنکی فێریکرد چۆن خواردن دروستبکات بۆیە ئەو

always been in the kitchen with his nenek cooking.

هەمیشە لە چێشتخانە بوو لەگەڵ نەنکیدا

What did you take an interest in when you were younger

تۆ چێژت لە چی وەرەگرت کاتێک گەنجتر بوویت

Things take time.

شتەکان کاتی دەوێت

People are always telling you that when you're impatient

خەڵکی هەمیشە وات پێدەڵێن کاتێک کە تۆ دڵتەنگیت

about something, aren't they?

دەربارەی هەندێک شت، وانیە؟

Actually, the verb 'take' comes up quite a bit

لەڕاستیدا کرداری take زۆرکەم (بەکاردێ)‌ *come up واتە شتێک دابهێنیێت واتە بەکەمی شتی تازە پەیدا دەبێت بۆ ئەوەی بەکاریبهێنیت لەگەڵ take

when we're talking about time.

کاتێک باسی کات دەکەین

It took some time to find the dog

هەندێک کاتی خایاند بۆ دۆزینەوەی سەگەکە

after it escaped from the yard.

پاش ئەوەی هەڵهاتبوو لە حەوشەکە

Becoming fluent in English takes time.

بە باشی ئاخافتن (قسەکردن بە ڕەوانی) لە ئینگلیزیدا کاتی دەوێت

But if you practise consistently, you can definitely do it!

بەڵام ئەگەر بە ڕێکی ڕاهێنان بکەی، بەدڵنیایەوە دەتوانیت بیکەیت

Also, we take time off, when we go on holiday

هەروەها، ئێمە پشوو وەردەگرین کاتێک دەچین بۆ گەشت

or we stop working for a while.

یاخود بۆ ماوەیەک لە کارکردن دەوەستین

Did you take any time off over the summer?

ئایا لە هاویندا هیچ پشوویەکت وەرگرت؟

Where did you go?

بۆ کوێ ڕۆشتی؟

Gosh I'm waiting for summer down here in Australia.

خوایە من چاوەڕێی هاوینم (لەم خوارەوە) لە ئوسترالیا

We also take a break, alright?

وە هەروەها ئێمە پشوو وەردەگرین،باشە؟

We put our feet up, we relax, we stop working, right?

قاچ دەخەینە سەر قاچ، دەحەسێینەوە، لە کارکردن دەوەستین،ڕاستە؟

Take a break.

پشوو وەرگرە

We also take classes.

وەهەروەها ئێمە دەورە دەبیین (ڕۆیشتن بۆ خول)

You know that I've been taking Spanish classes

ئێوە دەزانن کە من لە دەورەی زمانی ئیسپانی بوومە

with Lingoda for three months, right?

لەگەڵ lingoda بۆ ماوەی سێ مانگ،ڕاستە؟

With Lingoda, you can take your time or you can take

لەگەڵ lingoda, دەتوانیت کاتی خۆت وەربگری یاخود دەتوانیت

classes daily and complete the Language Marathon,

دەورەی ڕۆژانەی ببینی وە ماراسۆنی زمان ببینی

which is about to start by the way.

مادام بەمشێوەیە دەستیپێکرد

قسەکردن لەسەر take a look

we use this expression

ئێمە ئەم دەستەواژەیە بەکاردەهێنین

when we look at something or someone but

کاتێک سەیری هەندێکشت یان کەسێک دەکەین بەڵام

especially in a really quick or an informal way.

بەتایبەتی بەشیوەیەکی زۆر خێرا یاخود بە شێوەیەکی ناڕەسمی

Can you take a look at this email I wrote?

ئەتوانیت سەیرێکی ئەم ئیمێڵە بکەی نوسیومە؟

Do you think it's clear?

پێتوایە ڕوونە؟

I need to take a look at the map

پێویستە سەیرێکی نەخشەکە بکەم

before we go any further. I don't want to get us lost.

پێش ئەوەی دوورتر بڕۆین، نامەوێ ونبین

Alight let's talk about these really great expressions:

باشە با باسی ئەم دەستەواژە گرنگانە بکەین

to take charge,

گرتنە ئەستۆی خۆ

to take control of something, alright?

بۆ کۆنتڕۆڵکردنی هەندێکشت،باشە؟

When someone takes charge or they take control

کاتێک کەسێک شتێک دەگرێتە ئەستۆی خۆ یاخود شتێک کۆنتڕۆڵ ئەکا

they're able to manage something, usually a situation

ئەتوانێت هەندێک شت بەڕێوە ببا،بەزۆری لە بارودۆخەکدا

or a project or something like that.

یاخود لە پڕۆژەیەکدا یاخود هەندێک شتی وەک ئەمە

Sometimes even a group of people like a class

هەندێکجار گروپێک خەڵک وەکو وانە (پۆل)

or a team.

یاخود تیم

And you'll also hear "take the lead" used in a similar way.

وە ئێوە take the lead دەبیستن کە بەهەمان شێوە بەکاردێ

These are all really great expressions

ئەمانە دەستەواژەی زۆر باشن

to talk about leadership.

بۆ قسەکردن دەربارەی ڕابەری

As the teacher,

وەکو مامۆستایەک

he needs to take control of the class.

ئەبێت جڵەوی پۆلەکە ڕابگرێت

Can you take charge of the money?

ئەتوانیت پارەکە بگریتە دەستی خۆتەوە؟

I don't trust myself to look after it.

متمانەم بە خۆم نیە بۆ چاودێریکردنی ئەو پارەیە

My boss just asked me to take the lead on our next

بەڕێوبەرەکەم داوای لێم کرد ڕابەری پڕۆژەکەی داهاتومان بکەم

project. I'm really excited about it.

بەڕاستی زۆر بەپەرۆشم دەربارەی ئەوە

Hey, take it easy. Relax, okay?

بە ئاسان وەریبگرە، ئارامبەوە، باشە؟

Don't push yourself too hard.

فشار لەخۆت مەکە بۆ کاری قورس

Don't worry. Don't stress too much.

دوودڵ مەبە، زۆر سترێس مەبە

You need to take it easy for a few days

پێویستە بە ئاسان وەریبگری بۆچەند ڕۆژێک

after your operation.

دوای نەشتەرگەرییەکەت

Take it easy.

بە ئاسان وەری بگرە

But this expression can also be used to tell someone

بەڵام ئەم دەستەواژەیە ئەتوانێ بەکاربهێنرێت بۆ ئەوەی بە کەسێک بڵێ

who's being quite aggressive to stop, to calm down.

کە شەڕانیە بۆ ئەوەی هێمن بێتەوە

Take it easy. Relax.

بە ئاسان وەریبگرە، ئارام بەوە

Plus, you'll also hear people using this word

زائیدەن،هەروەها گوێت لە خەڵکی دەبێت ئەم وشەیە بەکاردەهێنن

or this expression really informally as a farewell.

یاخود ئەم دەستەواژەیە بەڕاستی بەشێوەی ناڕەسمی وەکو farewell بەواتای خواحافیزی دێت بەڵام ناڕەسمییە

They'll say "See you later, take it easy!"

دەڵێن (دوای دەتبینمەوە ، خواحافیز(بە ئاسان وەری بگرە) )

Alright so we went through quite a few expressions

today using 'take'.
