In everyday speech, there will be moments when you need information.

रोजमर्रा के भाषण में ऐसे क्षण आएंगे जब आपको जानकारी की आवश्यकता होगी।

You will need to ask a question.

आपको एक प्रश्न पूछना होगा.

The action of asking something is common

कुछ पूछने की क्रिया तब सामान्य होती है

when a person needs or requires information fast.

जब किसी व्यक्ति को जानकारी की शीघ्रता से आवश्यकता होती है।

A direct question can be a request or an inquiry.

एक सीधा प्रश्न अनुरोध या पूछताछ हो सकता है।

A request is often made in the form of a question.

अनुरोध अक्सर एक प्रश्न के रूप में किया जाता है।

“May I open a window?”

"क्या मैं एक खिड़की खोल सकता हूँ?"

“Can I borrow your pen?”

"क्या मैं आपका पेन उधार ले सकता हूँ?"

“Is it possible to see you tomorrow?”

"क्या कल आपसे मिलना संभव है?"

All those questions are requests.

वे सभी प्रश्न अनुरोध हैं।

One person is asking another for a direct answer

एक व्यक्ति दूसरे से अनुरोध का

A question can be in the form

A direct form of question is described as interrogative.

प्रश्न का प्रत्यक्ष रूप प्रश्नवाचक के रूप में वर्णित है।

For example; asking for a reason why a person did something.

उदाहरण के लिए; किसी व्यक्ति ने कुछ क्यों किया इसका कारण पूछना।

When asking someone where they were at a certain time is interrogative.

किसी से यह पूछना कि वे एक निश्चित समय पर कहाँ थे, पूछताछ है।

“Where were you last night?”

"कल आपकी रात कहां बीती?"

“What have you done with my money?”

"तुमने मेरे पैसे के साथ क्या किया है?"

“Where did you hide the treasure?”

“तुमने ख़ज़ाना कहाँ छुपाया?”

To demand an answer is to ask an interrogative question.

उत्तर माँगना प्रश्नवाचक प्रश्न पूछना है।

Any sentence Using ‘What’,

'क्या',

‘Why’, ‘How’, ‘Who’, ‘When’...

'क्यों', 'कैसे', 'कौन', 'कब'...

‘Where’, can be described as interrogative.

'कहां' का प्रयोग करने वाले किसी भी वाक्य को प्रश्नवाचक कहा जा सकता है।

This is very different from a request,

यह एक अनुरोध से बहुत अलग है,

which is seen as non interrogative.

जिसे गैर-प्रश्नात्मक के रूप में देखा जाता है।

You might say that a request is a polite way of demanding something.

आप कह सकते हैं कि अनुरोध किसी चीज़ की मांग करने का एक विनम्र तरीका है।

‘May I?’

'क्या मुझे अनुमति है?'

‘Could you?’ ‘Will you?’

'क्या तुम?' 'क्या आप?'

‘Can I?’

'क्या मैं?'

‘Is it okay if...?’

'क्या यह ठीक है अगर...?'

Of course,

निःसंदेह,

any question needs an answer.

किसी भी प्रश्न के उत्तर की आवश्यकता होती है।

But sometimes the answer does not come straight away.

लेकिन कई बार जवाब तुरंत नहीं मिलता.

You might have to wait for a reply.

आपको उत्तर के लिए प्रतीक्षा करनी पड़ सकती है.

The answer is... ‘reply’

उत्तर है... 'जवाब'

‘respond’ (the response) ‘retort’...

'जवाब' (प्रतिक्रिया) 'जवाब'...

Act in response. (To reply)

जवाब में कार्य करें। (उत्तर देने के लिए)

The person being asked will give their reply.

जिस व्यक्ति से पूछा जा रहा है वह अपना उत्तर देगा।

The words reply and answer can

उत्तर और उत्तर शब्दों का

be used as given or received.

प्रयोग दिया या प्राप्त के रूप में किया जा सकता है।

You ask...

आप पूछते हैं...

I reply.

मैं उत्तर देता हूं।

I reply to your question.

मैं आपके प्रश्न का उत्तर देता हूं.

You receive my reply.

आपको मेरा उत्तर प्राप्त होगा.

The person asking will wait for a reply.

पूछने वाला व्यक्ति उत्तर की प्रतीक्षा करेगा.

There might be a time

ऐसा भी समय हो सकता है

when a question is put forward without needing a response or reply.

जब कोई प्रश्न बिना प्रतिक्रिया या उत्तर की आवश्यकता के सामने रखा जाता है।

This is a rhetorical question.

यह एक अलंकारिक प्रश्न है.

Something said in the form of a question,

प्रश्न के रूप में कही गई कोई बात,

but not requiring an answer is rhetorical.

लेकिन उत्तर की आवश्यकता न होना अलंकारिक है।

“Could this day get any worse?”

"क्या यह दिन और भी बदतर हो सकता है?"

“Why do bad things always happen to me?”

"मेरे साथ हमेशा बुरी चीजें ही क्यों होती हैं?"

“Where did my life go wrong?”

"मेरे जीवन में कहाँ ग़लती हुई?"

“Was my performance really that bad?”

"क्या मेरा प्रदर्शन सचमुच इतना ख़राब था?"

“Where do I go from here?”

"मैं यहाँ से जा ही कहाँ सकता हूं?"

The rhetorical statement is normally used

अलंकारिक कथन का प्रयोग आम तौर पर तब किया जाता है

when a moment of annoyance or frustration takes place.

जब झुंझलाहट या हताशा का क्षण आता है।

You ask a question, sometimes to yourself.

आप एक प्रश्न पूछें, कभी-कभी अपने आप से।

There is no need for an answer.

उत्तर की कोई जरूरत नहीं है.

It is a rhetorical question.

यह एक अलंकारिक प्रश्न है.

Before asking a question,

प्रश्न पूछने से पहले,

you might say, ‘Can I ask you something?’

आप कह सकते हैं, 'क्या मैं आपसे कुछ पूछ सकता हूँ?'

Which itself is a request.

जो अपने आप में एक निवेदन है.

Sometimes more than one answer is required or needed.

कभी-कभी एक से अधिक उत्तर की आवश्यकता होती है या आवश्यकता होती है।

You might need more information in the answer.

You might need to ask another question.

This is often described as a follow-up question.

A question can be described as a query.

A general question about something is a query.

One problem with asking a question is waiting for the reply.

You might not get the response that you wanted.

The reply might be negative.

So the next time you ask a question,

remember to be ready for the response.

उत्तर के लिए तैयार रहना याद रखें।
