It is interesting how many English words relating to the body are used as idioms.

من المثير للاهتمام كثرة الكلمات الإنجليزية المتعلقة بالجسم كتعبيرات اصطلاحية.

By this I am of course referring to the names of parts of the body, both on the outside

أقصد بذلك أسماء أجزاء الجسم، سواءً من الخارج

and on the inside. Underneath the skin.

أو الداخل. تحت الجلد.

Today I thought I would  concentrate on one particular 

اليوم فكرتُ في التركيز على

part of the body that might be described as vital.

جزء واحد من الجسم يُمكن وصفه بالحيوي.

It is a vital part of the body.

إنه جزء حيوي من الجسم.

Something vital is important and necessary.

أي شيء حيوي مهم وضروري.

In this case, we need this particular body part to survive,

في هذه الحالة، نحتاج هذا الجزء تحديدًا للبقاء على قيد الحياة،

which is why it is often referred to as a vital body part or an important organ.

ولذلك يُشار إليه غالبًا بأنه جزء حيوي أو عضو مهم.

Today we are looking at words and phrases connected to the heart.

اليوم، سنتناول كلمات وعبارات مرتبطة بالقلب.

For example, we can have  the phrase 'heart of gold',

على سبيل المثال، قد نجد عبارة "قلب من ذهب"،

a person who is kind natured or generous 

فالشخص اللطيف أو الكريم

with their time and always  shows respect to other people,

بوقته والذي يُظهر احترامه للآخرين دائمًا،

might be described as having a heart of gold.

يُمكن وصفه بأنه ذو قلب من ذهب.

They are seen as good, kind,  generous and respectful.

يُنظر إليه على أنه طيب وكريم ومحترم.

That person has a heart of gold.

هذا الشخص لديه قلب من ذهب.

Then we have a slightly negative one

ثم لدينا عبارة سلبية نوعًا ما

which describes the feeling of wanting to give up or quit doing something.

تصف الشعور بالرغبة في التخلي عن شيء ما أو التوقف عنه.

The phrase is 'lose heart'.

هذه العبارة هي "فقدان الأمل".

A person might lose heart when things are not going as well as they should be.

قد يفقد الشخص عزيمته عندما لا تسير الأمور كما ينبغي.

You might become unhappy and despondent.

قد تشعر بالحزن واليأس.

The feeling of being disappointed by one's efforts might lead them to lose heart.

قد يدفعه الشعور بخيبة الأمل من جهوده إلى فقدان عزيمته.

They feel like giving up.

يشعر وكأنه يستسلم.

The next heart phrase is a positive one,

العبارة التالية التي تعبر عن القلب إيجابية،

something that is an important part of a business or a group who are undertaking some type of task.

وهي جزء مهم من عمل أو مجموعة تتولى مهمة ما. أهم

The most important part of something.

جزء في شيء ما.

The phrase we often use to  describe this is ‘heart and soul’.

العبارة التي نستخدمها غالبًا لوصف هذا هي "القلب والروح".

The heart and soul of something is what drives a thing forward.

قلب وروح الشيء هو ما يدفعه إلى الأمام.

The heart and soul of a company.

قلب وروح الشركة.

Of course, we are talking about the employees.

بالطبع، نحن نتحدث عن الموظفين.

They are the most important part of the business.

إنهم أهم جزء في العمل .

They are the people who keep everything going.

إنهم الأشخاص الذين يحافظون على استمرار كل شيء.

They are the heart and soul of the business.

إنهم قلب وروح العمل. يمكن أيضًا وصف

Any important thing that  helps something to survive

أي شيء مهم يساعد على البقاء

or operate can also be  described as the heart and soul.

أو العمل بأنه القلب والروح.

Our next heart phrase concerns a person who is 

تتعلق عبارة القلب التالية بشخص

sentimental and often feels  the emotions of others.

عاطفي وغالبًا ما يشعر بمشاعر الآخرين.

That person normally has deep feelings and may 

عادةً ما يكون لدى هذا الشخص مشاعر عميقة وقد

become emotional over anything  that they feel strongly about.

يصبح عاطفيًا تجاه أي شيء يشعر به بقوة.

The phrase is 'soft hearted'.

العبارة هي "رقيق القلب".

A soft hearted person is someone who is emotional.

الشخص رقيق القلب هو شخص عاطفي.

They carry a deep sense of emotional connection or feeling for others.

إنهم يحملون شعورًا عميقًا بالارتباط العاطفي أو الشعور بالآخرين.

A soft hearted person might also be described as having a heart of gold.

يمكن أيضًا وصف الشخص ذو القلب الرقيق بأنه يمتلك قلبًا من ذهب.

If two people are having a  deep, meaningful conversation 

إذا كان شخصان يجريان محادثة عميقة وذات مغزى

about an important part of their lives,

حول جزء مهم من حياتهما،

we might say that they are having a 'heart to heart' conversation.

فقد نقول إنهما يجريان محادثة "من القلب إلى القلب".

Two or more people who are expressing their feelings for each other

يمكن وصف شخصين أو أكثر يعبرون عن مشاعرهم تجاه بعضهم البعض

can be described as having a heart to heart.

بأنهم يجريون محادثة من القلب إلى القلب.

Two people in a relationship will often discuss how they feel for each other.

غالبًا ما يناقش شخصان في علاقة ما شعورهما تجاه بعضهما البعض.

They are having a heart to heart conversation.

إنهم يجريان محادثة من القلب إلى القلب.

The next phrase is an unhappy one.

العبارة التالية هي عبارة غير سعيدة.

The feeling of devastation  that one might experience

as a reaction to something bad happening.

A sad loss or a deep disappointment might cause a person to feel 'heartache'.

A person who feels heartache can be described as being 'heartbroken'.

يمكن وصف الشخص الذي يشعر بألم القلب بأنه "محطم القلب".

A heartbroken lover whose partner has just left them.

عاشق محطم القلب تركه شريكه للتو.

They feel heartache because of what happened.

يشعرون بألم القلب بسبب ما حدث.

They are heartbroken.

إنهم محطمو القلب.

Sometimes people like to change their minds about something.

في بعض الأحيان يحب الناس تغيير آرائهم بشأن شيء ما.

They might have a change of opinion,

قد يغيّرون رأيهم،

or they might alter their feelings about a person or situation.

أو مشاعرهم تجاه شخص أو موقف.

We can say that person has  had 'a change of heart'.

يمكننا القول إن هذا الشخص قد "تغيّر رأيه". لقد أعاد التفكير

They have rethought their idea or opinion.

في فكرته أو رأيه.

They no longer have the same feeling about something.

لم يعد لديه نفس الشعور تجاه شيء ما.

They have had a change of heart.

لقد غيّر رأيه. يمكن وصف

A person who is sensitive to things that might be 

الشخص الحساس للأمور التي قد تكون

shocking or upsetting can be  described as 'faint hearted'.

صادمة أو مزعجة بأنه "ضعيف القلب".

That person has a faint heart.

هذا الشخص لديه قلب ضعيف.

This is used in a figurative sense to show that someone has a sensitive nature.

يُستخدم هذا المصطلح مجازيًا للدلالة على أن الشخص يتمتع بطبيعة حساسة.

They are easily upset or distressed by things.

فهو ينزعج أو يضيق بسهولة من الأشياء.

A scary ride at an amusement park might be described as being not for the faint hearted.

يمكن وصف لعبة مخيفة في مدينة الملاهي بأنها غير مناسبة لضعاف القلوب.

To do something without any hesitation or thought can be described as doing it 'in a heartbeat'.

القيام بشيء ما دون تردد أو تفكير يُوصف بأنه القيام به "في لمح البصر".

There is no need to think about it.

لا داعي للتفكير فيه.

A decision that is made quickly without any hesitation is done in a heartbeat.

القرار الذي يُتخذ بسرعة ودون تردد يُتخذ في لمح البصر.

The chance to do something that you've always wanted to try

قد يُوصف القيام بشيء لطالما رغبت في تجربته

might be expressed as doing something in a heartbeat.

بأنه القيام به في لمح البصر.

You would not have to think  about it for very long. 

لن تحتاج إلى التفكير فيه طويلًا، بل

You would do it straight away in a heartbeat.

ستفعله فورًا وفي لمح البصر.

To perform a song or poem without having any book or text in front of you

أداء أغنية أو قصيدة دون وجود أي كتاب أو نص أمامك

can be described as doing it 'by heart'.

يُمكن وصفه بأنه القيام به "عن ظهر قلب".

To do something by heart means you are doing it without any help.

القيام بشيء ما عن ظهر قلب يعني أنك تفعله دون أي مساعدة.

You have memorised the words.

لقد حفظت الكلمات.

You know what the song is and you are able to perform it without any help.

أنت تعرف ماهية الأغنية ويمكنك أداؤها دون أي مساعدة.

You sing the song by heart.

تغني الأغنية عن ظهر قلب.

You recite the poem by heart.

تُردد القصيدة عن ظهر قلب.

You have practised that particular thing and now you can do it from memory.

لقد تدربت على هذا الشيء تحديدًا، والآن يمكنك القيام به من الذاكرة.

You are doing it by heart.

أنت تفعله عن ظهر قلب.

A person, who is not very  good at hiding their emotions,

or their deep feelings about something, might

be described as 'wearing  their heart on their sleeve'.

To ‘wear your heart on your sleeve’ means

you express your emotions and  your inner desires freely.

A person might also show their true character, including their weaknesses.

قد يُظهر الشخص حقيقته، بما في ذلك نقاط ضعفه.

Sometimes, wearing your heart on your sleeve can be seen as a negative thing.

أحيانًا، يُنظر إلى التصريح بالمشاعر على أنه أمر سلبي، فهو

That person is giving away too much about their own feelings.

They are wearing their heart on their sleeve.

A movie heartthrob is an attractive man who appears in movies.

Here is a lovely phrase that we often use when we want to show how much a person means to someone.

هذه عبارة جميلة نستخدمها كثيرًا عندما نُريد أن نُظهر مدى أهمية شخص ما لشخص آخر.

When two people are together,  everything is perfect, 

عندما يكون شخصان معًا، يكون كل شيء مثاليًا،

but when they are apart, things are not so good.

ولكن عندما يفترقان، لا تكون الأمور على ما يُرام.

They will often miss each other.

غالبًا ما يفتقدان بعضهما البعض.

We often described this as 'absence, making the heart grow fonder'.

غالبًا ما نُصف هذا بأنه "غياب يُزيد من شوق القلب".

It is usual in relationships for those involved to 

من الشائع في العلاقات أن يشعر الطرفان

feel deep longing when they  are apart from each other.

بشوق عميق عندما يكونان بعيدين عن بعضهما البعض.

Hence, the phrase 'absence makes the heart grow fonder'.

ومن هنا، تأتي عبارة "الغياب يُثير الشوق".

Finally, we can use the word  'heart' to describe the feeling 

وأخيرًا، يُمكننا استخدام كلمة "قلب" لوصف الشعور

of wanting something very much.

بالرغبة الشديدة في شيء ما.

A deep longing for a certain thing, or an activity that you are keen to do.

شوقٌ عميق لشيءٍ مُعين، أو نشاطٍ تُريد القيام به.

We can say that you 'have your heart set on it'.

يُمكننا القول إنك "مُصمّم عليه".

To have your heart set on something means you are keen to have that particular thing.

أن تُصمّم على شيءٍ ما يعني أنك مُتحمسٌ له تحديدًا.

You want to do something.

تُريد أن تفعل شيئًا ما.

You have your heart set on it.

مُصمّم عليه.

It is something you desire to have or do.

إنه شيءٌ تُريد الحصول عليه أو القيام به.

And there they are.

ها هي.

A lovely selection of words  and phrases connected to heart.

مجموعةٌ رائعةٌ من الكلمات والعبارات المُرتبطة بالقلب.
