confusing English verbs.

أفعال إنكليزية مربكة

English verbs that are similar.

الأفعال الإنكليزية المتشابهة

And so sometimes, it's hard to know

يصعب في بعض الاحيان التعرف

which one is the right one to use.

على اي واحد منها يكون صحيح الاستخدام

So, they might be causing you a few problems.

لذلك ربما تسبب بعض المشاكل

But don't worry, in this lesson we're going to help you

ولكن لا داع للقلق... في هذا الدرس سنساعدك

to fix those problems.

للتغلب على هذه المشاكل

We're going to focus on the verbs 'been' and 'gone'.

سوف نركز على الفعلين (been & gone)

Now I'm sure that you've already recognised

أنا متأكدة بانك الأن قد عرفت

that these verbs are not in the infinitive form.

أن هذين الفعلين ليسا في صيغة المصدر

They're the past participle forms of the verbs

بل إنها بصيغة اسم المفعول

'to be' and 'to go'

بالنسبة لـ (to be) أو (to go)

which are both irregular verbs.

وكلاهما أفعال غير عادية (شاذة)

Now these verbs have a really close

والآن هذه الأفعال متقاربة

relationship in English,

في اللغة الانجليزية

though their verb forms

بالرغم من صيغها

don't really give you any clues about that!

فهي لا تعطي اي دليل على ذلك

Here, you can see them in past tense,

هنا... يمكنك أن تراهم في زمن الماضي

in present tense, in past participle form, together.

وزمن المضارع، وفي زمن التام (اسم المفعول) مع بعض

But in English,

ولكن في الإنكليزية

the verb 'to go' has two past participle forms:

الفعل (to go) لديه صيغتين من اسم المفعول

'gone' and 'been'.

(gone) و (been)

The past participle form of 'be' and 'go'

على أن صيغة التام (اسم المفعول) لكلاهما (be & go)

can be 'been'.

يمكن أن يكون (been)

And this is usually where the confusion happens.

وهنا عادة ما يحدث ارتباكا

These two verbs are very often used in similar ways

وهذان الفعلان غالباً ما يستخدمان بطرق متشابهة

and in similar contexts

وفي سياقات متشابهة

but sometimes only one of these verbs works.

ولكن في بعض الأحيان واحد فقط منهما يكون صحيح الاستخدام

The past participle form of verbs

إن صيغة التام (اسم المفعول) من الأفعال

are most commonly used in the perfect tenses,

تكون عادة أكثر استخداما في الأزمنة التامة

together with the auxiliary verb, have.

مترافقة مع الفعل المساعد (have)

So this is where you need to pay close attention

لذلك هنا تحتاج الى الانتباه

to the main verb and be clear about

للفعل الرئيسي و ان تكون لديك رؤية واضحة حول

which verb you're trying to use,

أي فعل تحاول أن تستخدمه

'to be' or 'to go'.

(to be) أو (to go)

Firstly, let's review 'been' as the past participle of 'to be'

اولا، دعونا نراجع (been) كفعل في الزمن التام لـ (to be)

He's been sick for a week.

هو كان مريضا لمدة اسبوع.

I've been exhausted since we got home.

لقد كنت مرهقا منذ قدومنا إلى البيت.

Have you been pleased

هل كنت سعيداً

with your performance this year?

بأدائك هذه السنة؟

So we use 'been' to talk about

اذن استخدمنا (been) للتحدث حول

feelings and our health but of course,

المشاعر و حول صحتنا ولكن بالطبع

it can also be followed by the continuous verb form

يمكن أيضاً ان يتبع بصيغة فعل الإستمرارية

as part of the

كجزء من

structure of the present perfect continuous

بناء الجملة في زمن الحاضر التام المستمر

or the past perfect continuous.

أو في زمن الماضي التام المستمر

They had been waiting at the wrong classroom.

لقد كانوا ينتظرون في الصف الخطأ.

But when we look at been as the past participle of 'to go'

ولكن عندما ننظر الى (been) كزمن تام في (to go)

well, obviously there are a few questions

حسنا ، من الواضح أن هناك بعض الأسئلة

that we need to ask.

التي يجب طرحها

Why are there two different forms?

لماذا هناك صيغتين مختلفتين؟

Is the meaning different?

هل المعنى مختلف؟

When should I use 'gone' and when should I use 'been'?

متى يجب علي أن استخدم (gone) ومتى يجب علي أن استخدم (been)؟

The difference in meaning is actually quite simple.

الإختلاف في المعنى حقاً بسيط تماما

'Gone' tells us that the movement is in one direction,

(gone) تخبرنا بأن الحركة في اتجاه واحد

away from a particular place.

بعيداً من مكان خاص

'Been' tells us that the movement is in two directions,

(been) تخبرنا بأن الحركةفي اتجاهين

away from a particular place and then back again.

بعيداً من مكان خاص ومن ثم العودة مرة أخرى

You've returned.

لقد عدت

They've gone, they're not here at the moment.

لقد ذهبوا، هم ليسوا هنا في هذه اللحظة.

They've gone to the supermarket.

لقد ذهبوا إلى السوبر ماركت.

They're at the supermarket now, they're not here.

هم الآن في السوبر ماركت، هم ليسوا هنا.

They've been to the supermarket.

لقد ذهبوا إلى السوبر ماركت.

So they're back home now.

و هم الآن قد عادوا إلى البيت.

Amy's just gone for a run, she's not here right now

لقد ذهبت (آمي) لتركض، هي ليست هنا الآن،

but she'll be back in half an hour.

ولكن سوف تعود إلى هنا في خلال نصف ساعة،

Amy's just been for a run,

ذهبت (آمي) فقط لتركض،

she arrived home about five minutes ago.

وصلت إلى البيت تقريباً منذ خمس دقائق.

The difference between 'been' and 'gone'

الإختلاف بين (been) و (gone)

is simple to explain when you're talking about holidays.

بسيط لشرح عندما تتحدث عن العطل

My sister-in-law lives in Thailand, in Bangkok

تعيش أخت زوجي في بانكوك، تايلند

so I often go there to visit her.

لذلك أنا غالباً أذهب هناك لزيارتها.

I've been there five times already.

لقد كنت هناك خمس مرات لحد الأن.

Those trips are all complete. They're in the past.

هذه الرحلات تكون كاملة العدد. إنها كانت في الماضي.

She hasn't been to Australia to visit me yet though!

لم تذهب إلى استراليا لتزورني لحد الآن!

I'm looking for Tom. Has he already gone to Sydney?

أنا أتطلع لرؤية (توم). هل ذهب للتو إلى سيدني؟

He's already been! He got back yesterday.

كان هناك! لقد عاد البارحة

Now there's a little trick to remember here.

الآن هناك خدعة صغيرة يمكن أن نتذكرها هنا

If the trip is complete then use been,

اذا كانت الرحلة قد انتهت، سوف نستخدم (been)

but if the trip is still happening

ولكن اذا كانت الرحلة ما زالت مستمرة

and the person is not here, use gone.

و الشخص ليس موجود فيها نستخدم (gone)

Now in this video, I talked about the present perfect

الآن في هذا الفيديو تحدثت عن المضارع التام

and I explained that the present perfect can be used

وشرحت بأن المضارع التام يمكن أن يستخدم

to talk about life experience

للتحدث حول تجربة الحياة

or it can be used to talk about an unfinished action

أو يمكن استخدامه للتحدث عن حدث غير مكتمل

in the past,

في الماضي

that is somehow affecting the present moment.

هذا يؤثر بطريقة ما في اللحظة الحالية

So usually, that unfinished action

لذلك عادة الحدث الغير مكتمل

started recently in the past

بدأ حديثاً في الماضي

and is still happening in the present.

وما زال يحدث في الحاضر

That past action is affecting the present moment.

هذا الحدث في الماضي يؤثر على اللحظة الحالية

So these grammatical differences can help you

ولذلك هذه الإختلافات في القواعد يمكن أن تساعدك

when you're choosing whether to use 'been' or 'gone'.

عندما تختار بين استخدام (been) أو (gone)

So use 'been' when it's something

ولذلك نستخدم (been) عندما يكون شيئاً ما

that happened in the past.

قد حدث في الماضي

It's part of your life experience and it's finished.

إنها جزء من تجربة في حياتك و إنها قد انتهت

I've been to Spain.

أنا ذهبت إلى اسبانيا.

I'm not there now but it is part of my life experience.

أنا لست هناك الآن ولكن هذا جزء من تجربة في حياتي

If it's about life experience then 'been'

لو أنها حول تجربة في الحياة فإننا نستخدم (been)

is usually the correct choice.

وعادة ما يكون الإختيار الصحيح

Now 'gone' is the one to use

والآن (gone) نستخدمها

when it's an unfinished action that started in the past

عندما يكون هناك حدث غير مكتمل الذي بدأ في الماضي

and affects the present moment.

و يؤثر على اللحظة الحالية

My mum has gone to Spain.

لقد ذهبت أمي إلى اسبانيا.

She's not here now.

هي ليست هنا الآن.

It's a past action that is affecting the present

إن الحدث في الماضي ولكنه يؤثر على اللحظة الحالية

and it's unfinished.

و الحدث لم ينتهي بعد

So there are some common mistakes

لذلك هناك بعض الأخطاء الشائعة

that English learners need to avoid

والتي يحتاج المتعلمين للإنكليزية إلى تجنبها

when they're choosing between 'been' and 'gone'.

عند الاختيار بين (been) و (gone)

So for you, don't use 'gone' when you're

و بالنسبة لكم لا تسخدموا (gone) عنمدا يكون عليكم

talking about yourself.

أن تتحدثوا عن أ نفسكم

I've gone to Japan.

لقد ذهبت إلى اليابان.

No I haven't, because I'm right here, I'm not in Japan.

كلا لم أذهب، أنا هنا أنا لست في اليابان.

You also can't use 'gone' to talk about someone else

كذلك لا يمكن لك ان تستخدم (gone) للتحدث عن شخص آخر

who is actually with you at the time of speaking.

و هو فعلاً معك اثناء التحدث عنه

It just doesn't make any sense.

فهذا ليس له اي معنى

Most of the time, ever and never are used

معظم الأحيان (EVER & NEVER) يمكن استخدامها

to talk about life experience.

للتحدث عن تجربة الحياة

So usually, they are used with 'been' instead of 'gone'.

ولذلك هم يستخدمون مع (BEEN) بدلاً من (GONE)

Have you ever been to Australia?

هل ذهبت إلى استراليا؟

I've never been to Russia.

أنا لم أذهب أبداً إلى روسيا.

Okay, so are you ready to practise a little with me?

حسنا. هل انت جاهز للتمرن قليلاً معي؟

You need to choose 'been' or 'gone'.

يجب ان تختار بين (been) أو (gone)

Tim has ... to Melbourne for the weekend.

He'll be back on Monday.

سيعود يوم الاثنين

تيم ذهب الى ملبورن لقضاء عطلة نهاية الاسبوع

He'll be back on Monday.

سيعود يوم الاثنين

He's not here right now so he hasn't returned yet.

هو ليس هنا الأن لذلك هو لم يعد لحد الآن.

He's still there, he's still in Melbourne.

هو ما زال هناك، هو ما زال في ملبورن.

Has your dad ever .... to India with you?

هل... ابوك من قبل معك الى الهند

Has your dad ever been to India with you?

هل ذهب ابوك من قبل معك الى الهند

We're talking about life experience here,

نتحدث الآن عن تجارب الحياة

so we would probably choose 'been'.

لذلك سنختار من المحتمل (been)

Jessica has ... to the supermarket already.

She bought some fruit for our picnic tomorrow.

لقد اشترت بعض الفواكه من اجل نزهتنا غدا

Which one is it?

أي واحد الآن؟

Been or gone.

Jessica has been to the supermarket already.

She's bought some fruit for our picnic tomorrow.

It must be 'been' because we know what she bought

لابد أن يكون (been) لأننا نعرف ماذا اشترت

so she must have come back from the supermarket

لذلك هي يجب أن تكون قد عادت من السوبر ماركت

and told us.

وأخبرتنا

Just remember that 'been' is used to talk about

فقط تذكر بأن (been) تستخدم للتحدث عن

life experience, about trips and events

تجارب الحياة و حول الرحلات والأحداث

and things that have happened in the past

والأشياء التي حدثت في الماضي

but are not still happening now.

ولكنها انتهت اي لا تحدث الأن

And 'gone' is used to talk about a current trip or event

و (gone) تستخدم للتحدث عن رحلة حالية أو حدث

when someone is somewhere else,

عندما يكون شخص ما في مكان ما

they haven't returned yet.

لم يعود إلى حد الآن
