will really help with your English listening and pronunciation skills.

You can see that they look the same, but how do they sound?

First, I will say the sentence quickly.

I know. I know. They look the same but they're two different words. 

আমি জানি। আমি জানি। তারা দেখতে একই কিন্তু তারা দুটি ভিন্ন শব্দ.

Let's have a look at our two words in more detail.

এর আরো বিস্তারিতভাবে আমাদের দুটি শব্দ কটাক্ষপাত আছে.

We have ‘live’ and ‘live’.

আমাদের 'লাইভ' এবং 'লাইভ' আছে।

The spelling is the same but the pronunciation and the meaning is different.

বানান একই কিন্তু উচ্চারণ ও অর্থ ভিন্ন।

It's a heteronym.

এটি একটি ভিন্নার্থক শব্দ।

What's a heteronym?

একটি ভিন্নার্থক শব্দ কি?

It's where you have two words,

এখানে আপনার দুটি শব্দ আছে,

where the spelling is the same,

যেখানে বানান একই,

but the meanings and the pronunciations are different.

কিন্তু অর্থ এবং উচ্চারণ ভিন্ন।

Let's have a look at the meaning and the pronunciation of our two words. 

আসুন আমাদের দুটি শব্দের অর্থ এবং উচ্চারণ দেখুন।

I’ll start with ‘live’.

আমি 'লাইভ' দিয়ে শুরু করব।

‘live’ is an adjective.

'লাইভ' একটি বিশেষণ।

It means something that is happening right now.

এর মানে এমন কিছু যা এখন ঘটছে।

You can go and see it with your own eyes.

আপনি গিয়ে নিজের চোখে দেখতে পারেন।

Like a broadcast or a concert.

একটি সম্প্রচার বা একটি কনসার্ট মত.

Here are two sentences to show you this.

আপনাকে এটি দেখানোর জন্য এখানে দুটি বাক্য রয়েছে।

The first one,

প্রথমটি,

‘The live debate is happening right now.’

'লাইভ বিতর্ক এখনই হচ্ছে।'

The live debate is happening right this second. You can go and watch it. 

লাইভ বিতর্ক ঠিক এই দ্বিতীয় ঘটছে. আপনি গিয়ে দেখতে পারেন।

And number two.

আর দুই নম্বর।

‘I like watching live streams on the internet.’

'আমি ইন্টারনেটে লাইভ স্ট্রিম দেখতে পছন্দ করি।'

I like watching people broadcast themselves on  the internet live right now as it's happening. 

আমি এই মুহূর্তে ইন্টারনেটে নিজেদের সম্প্রচার করা মানুষ দেখতে পছন্দ করি যেমনটা হচ্ছে।

Let's practice pronunciation. Repeat after me.

Our second word is ‘live’.

আমাদের দ্বিতীয় শব্দ 'লাইভ'।

‘live’ is a verb.

'লাইভ' একটি ক্রিয়াপদ।

It means to make your home somewhere.

মানে কোথাও নিজের বাড়ি তৈরি করা।

And I have two sentences to show you this.

এবং আমি আপনাকে দেখাতে দুটি বাক্য আছে.

‘I live in America.’

'আমি আমেরিকায় থাকি।'

It's where I live. The country where my home is. 

এটা আমি যেখানে বাস. যে দেশে আমার বাড়ি।

And sentence number two, ‘They live across the street from me.’ 

এবং বাক্য নম্বর দুই, 'ওরা আমার থেকে রাস্তার ওপারে থাকে।'

I live here - my house. They live across the street. 

আমি এখানে থাকি - আমার বাড়ি। তারা রাস্তার ওপারে থাকে।

Their house is across the street from my house.

ওদের বাড়ি আমার বাড়ি থেকে রাস্তার ওপারে।

Okay let's practice pronunciation. We'll go slowly to start,
