Who's vs Whose | Common English Vocabulary Mistake

الفرق بين "who's" و"who + الفاصلة العليا + s"

‘who + apostrophe + s’ And ‘whose’ in one word, ‘whose’.

و"who's" في كلمة واحدة، "who".

Now it's very simple but it's very confusing, because they both sound the same.

الآن الأمر بسيط جدًا ولكنه مربك جدًا،

لأن كلاهما يبدوان متماثلين.

So even native speakers make a lot of mistakes. Okay?

لذلك، حتى المتحدثين الأصليين يرتكبون الكثير من الأخطاء.

تمام؟

So listen to me very carefully. It's very simple.

لذا استمع لي بعناية شديدة.

انه بسيط جدا.

‘who’s’ ‘who + apostrophe + s’ is the contraction

"من"

"من + الفاصلة العليا + s" هو اختصار الفعل "ليكون".

of the verb ‘to be’. So it's actually ‘who is’.

لذلك فهو في الواقع "من هو".

If I say, ‘who's on the phone?’, it’s ‘who is on the phone’.

إذا قلت، "من على الهاتف؟"،

فهو "من على الهاتف".

‘whose’ in one word ‘whose’ is the possessive.

"الذي" في كلمة واحدة "الذي" هو الملكية.

يعني لمن ينتمي

It means who does it belong to. For example, ‘whose bag is this?’ meaning

على سبيل المثال، "حقيبة من هذه؟"

‘who does this bag belong to?’ And you can say, ‘It's my bag.’

بمعنى "لمن تنتمي هذه الحقيبة؟"

ويمكنك أن تقول: "إنها حقيبتي".

‘It's your bag.’ It's a possessive.

"إنها حقيبتك."

إنها ملكية.

إذا كنت لا تعرف حقًا،

If you really don't know just try and replace the ‘s’ or ‘se’ with the verb to be.

فقط حاول استبدال "s" أو "se" بفعل ليكون.

And see if it works. If it works, then it's the contraction of

ومعرفة ما إذا كان يعمل.

إذا نجح، فهذا هو اختصار الفعل "ليكون".

the verb ‘to be’. Let's see together with a few examples.

"من هذه الأم؟"

Which one is it? Is it the verb ‘to be’?

أي واحد هو؟

هل هو الفعل "يكون"؟ أم أنها الملكية؟

Or Is it the possessive? Can you say ‘Who is mother is this?’

هل يمكنك أن تقول "من هي الأم؟"

No. You can't. It's incorrect.

رقم لا يمكنك ذلك.

هذا غير صحيح.

It's the possessive. ‘Whose mother is this?’

إنها الملكية.

"من هذه الأم؟"

إنها والدتي. إنها والدتك.

It's my mother. It's your mother.

It's his mother. Okay? Now one final example.

إنها والدته.

تمام؟ الآن مثال أخير.

‘Who's in the house?’ Come on, guys.

'من بالمنزل؟'

كونوا واقعيين يا قوم. أي واحد هو؟

Which one is it? Is it the verb ‘to be’ or is it the possessive?

هل هو الفعل "يكون" أم هو الملكية؟

It's obviously the verb ‘to be’. You can say ‘Who is in the house?’

ومن الواضح أن الفعل "يكون".

يمكنك أن تقول "من في المنزل؟" تمام؟
