آسان نبود پسرم،

but I think it's important you know this  story how I got to graduate from college

اما فکر می کنم مهم است این داستان را بدانید که چگونه من از دانشگاه فارغ التحصیل شدم،

well it all began when I was at the high school  the last year to be exact ly I was not sure about  

همه چیز از زمانی شروع شد که سال گذشته در دبیرستان بودم.

what I wanted to study then I mean what career  to study so I decided not to study for the moment

یعنی چه شغلی باید درس بخوانم، بنابراین تصمیم گرفتم لحظه ای درس نخوانم و برای

I started working hard to save money so I kind  of study a professional career later I had a  

پس انداز پول شروع به کار سختی کردم، بنابراین بعداً یک شغل حرفه ای خواندم.

lot of different jobs son I was a carpenter  an assistant a bricklayer a seller a waiter

well I had to work hard for some  years but unluckily I couldn't  

خوب من مجبور شدم چند سال سخت کار کنم اما متاسفانه نتوانستم

save enough money to start studying  it was not easy I had to work all  

آنقدر پول پس انداز کنم تا شروع به درس خواندن کنم. آسان نبود باید تمام

day to pay the rent wood and many other  different things because I lived alone  

روز کار می کردم تا کرایه چوب و بسیاری چیزهای مختلف دیگر را بپردازم زیرا تنها زندگی می کردم

but one day that changed I was spending too much  time working and I could never save any money  

اما یک روز تغییر کرد. من زمان زیادی را صرف کار می‌کردم و هرگز نمی‌توانستم پولی پس انداز کنم

I had studied in an Institute I studied  English and then I started teaching English

در مؤسسه‌ای تحصیل کرده بودم که انگلیسی خوانده بودم و سپس شروع به تدریس زبان انگلیسی کردم

but my salary was not so good I didn't  earn enough to pay the University  

اما حقوقم آنقدر خوب نبود که آنقدر درآمد نداشتم که بتوانم دانشگاه را پرداخت کنم

but one day I decided I was going to start  no matter what and maybe you're asking how

اما یک روز تصمیم گرفتم بدون توجه به هر کاری شروع کنم و شاید می‌پرسید که چقدر

well I didn't even know how I went to the  admission office and asked for information  

خوب من حتی نمی‌دانستم چگونه به اداره پذیرش رفتم و اطلاعاتی

about a career they gave me all the  information it was not cheap at all

درباره شغلی خواستم که آنها همه اطلاعات را به من دادند و اصلاً ارزان نبود.

I still didn't know how I was  going to pay for my studies  

هنوز نمی‌دانستم چگونه می‌خواهم هزینه تحصیلم را بپردازم،

but I took the exam anyway I mean  the University admission test  

اما به هر حال در آزمون شرکت کردم، منظورم آزمون پذیرش دانشگاه است.

I passed that test and I got a vacancy I was so  happy even when I didn't know how I would pay

Oh but before that I forgot to tell you  before I took my exam I told you I want  

اوه، اما قبل از آن فراموش کردم به شما بگویم قبل از شرکت در امتحان به شما گفتم می خواهم

to ask for information well there was a woman  who interviewed me to know my scale of payments

she asked me a lot of questions questions like  where do you live what do you do for a living

who are your parents what are your plans  for the future how much do you earn a month

پدر و مادرت چه کسی هستند، چه برنامه‌ای برای آینده داری، ماهانه چقدر درامد می‌گیری، می‌دانی

you know I come from a poor City my parents  are poor and we went through difficult times  

من از شهری فقیر هستم والدینم فقیر هستند و روزهای سختی را گذرانده‌ایم.

I explained that to the woman who was  interviewing me she was a psychologist

این را برای زنی که داشت با من مصاحبه می کرد، او یک روانشناس بود

and then she told me something that was  going to change the course of my life  

و بعد چیزی به من گفت که مسیر زندگی من را تغییر می داد.

she told me you shouldn't study at this University  

you are poor and you don't earn enough  money you should go to a public university

دانشگاه دولتی

I was like I didn't know what to answer she  continued you better go to a public university  

انگار نمیدونستم چی جواب بدم ادامه داد بهتره بری دانشگاه دولتی

because you won't be able to pay for this one  you will have a lot of problems you can't do it

چون نمیتونی هزینه این یکی رو بپردازی مشکلات زیادی خواهی داشت نمیتونی انجامش بدی

I was shocked by what she had told me I always  wanted to go to that University because I knew  

شوکه شدم طبق آنچه او به من گفته بود من همیشه می خواستم به آن دانشگاه بروم زیرا می دانستم که

it was one of the best in the country of course it  was not cheap but I wanted to study there anyway

یکی از بهترین های کشور است البته ارزان نیست اما به هر حال می خواستم در آنجا درس بخوانم

and when she said you can't do it I felt terrible  I felt that all my dreams were collapsing  

و وقتی او گفت نمی توانی این کار را انجام بدهم. احساس وحشتناکی داشتم. آن روز که به آپارتمانم رفتم، احساس کردم تمام رویاهایم در حال فروپاشی است

that day I went to my apartment and I was thinking  about what she had told me I was so depressed

و به چیزی فکر می‌کردم که او به من گفته بود که خیلی افسرده هستم،

but then I got angry just because she told me  I couldn't I wasn't going to listen to her am  

اما بعد عصبانی شدم فقط به این دلیل که او به من گفت نمی‌توانم نمی‌روم. برای گوش دادن به صحبت های او هستم

I right well the next day I went back  to the office and paid to take my test

من درست روز بعد به دفتر برگشتم و

as I told you before I passed the test and I was  in I was very happy but I still didn't know how I

was going to pay for the University I think that  psychologists motivated me to take that decision

yeah I mean she told me I couldn't do it and  I didn't like what she said so I did it I know

I know I know that sounds crazy but it really  happened that's how my professional life started

happily I had a credit card the bank had given  to me some months before so I asked for a loan

and they gave it to me that's how I could pay  the University but it was a lot of money anyway

the money I earned every month wasn't enough  by my second year of college I already owed

Anna was not the best in fact

آنا بهترین نبود در واقع

when I was at the school I failed maths many times  and I had to go to the summer school to fix it  

وقتی در مدرسه بودم، بارها در ریاضیات شکست خوردم و مجبور شدم به مدرسه تابستانی بروم تا درستش کن

I was not a good student but I had to do it this  time I had no option I had to be the best student

من دانش آموز خوبی نبودم اما مجبور شدم این کار را انجام دهم چاره ای نداشتم

if I wanted to continue studying I had to  become the best student and have high grades  

اگر می خواستم به تحصیل ادامه دهم باید بهترین دانش آموز می شدم باید  بهترین دانش آموز می شدم و نمرات بالایی می گرفتم

it was not easy but I had to do it anyway so I  decided to work really hard to reach that goal

آسان نبود اما من به هر حال باید این کار را انجام می‌دادم، بنابراین تصمیم گرفتم برای رسیدن به آن هدف واقعاً سخت کار کنم

and you know what the worst thing was that I had  to be the best student and work at the same time  

و می‌دانید بدترین چیز این بود که باید بهترین دانش‌آموز می‌شدم و در همان زمان کار می‌کردم.

yeah I had to keep working as a teacher to pay  the university the bank loan and all my stuff

دانشگاه وام بانکی و همه چیزهایم

I spent a lot of nights studying hard sometimes  I didn't sleep because I had an important exam  

شب های زیادی را صرف مطالعه سخت می کردم گاهی اوقات خوابم نمی برد چون امتحان مهمی داشتم

the next morning I had to get a perfect score if  I wanted to get that scholarship it was not easy

صبح روز بعد باید نمره کامل می گرفتم اگر می خواستم آن بورس تحصیلی را بگیرم آسان نبود.

I didn't eat well remember I lived alone and most  

خوب غذا نمی‌خوردم یادم باشد من تنها زندگی می‌کردم و بیشتر

of the times I didn't have enough  time to cook some healthy food  

اوقات وقت کافی برای پختن غذای سالم نداشتم،

so I sometimes just fry something to it  or ordered something to eat for delivery

بنابراین گاهی اوقات چیزی را روی آن سرخ می‌کردم یا چیزی برای خوردن سفارش می‌دادم،

but all those efforts one day ped off seriously  I worked hard and I became the best student in  

اما همه این تلاش‌ها یک روز به طور جدی متوقف شد. من سخت کار کردم و بهترین دانشجو در

the University I got the scholarship even  when I had always been the worst student

دانشگاه شدم. بورسیه تحصیلی را گرفتم، حتی زمانی که همیشه بدترین دانشجو بودم،

can you believe it I graduated  from University and now here I am  

باورتان می شود که از دانشگاه فارغ التحصیل شدم و اکنون اینجا هستم.

I am a licensed English teacher I earn enough  money to pay the rent and everything I'm so happy

اجاره خانه و همه چیزهایی که من خیلی خوشحالم

I just want to tell you that if you want  something to happen don't just wait for it  

فقط می خواهم به شما بگویم که اگر می خواهید چیزی اتفاق بیفتد فقط منتظر نباشید تا اتفاقی بیفتد برای آن کاری انجام دهید

to happen do something about it whatever but  try to do something you can do it I trust you
