but I think it's important you know this  story how I got to graduate from college

, mas acho importante que você conheça essa história, como consegui me formar na faculdade,

well it all began when I was at the high school  the last year to be exact ly I was not sure about  

tudo começou quando eu estava no ensino médio, no ano passado, para ser exatamente, eu não tinha certeza sobre

what I wanted to study then I mean what career  to study so I decided not to study for the moment

o que queria estudar, então eu quer dizer que carreira estudar então decidi não estudar no momento

I started working hard to save money so I kind  of study a professional career later I had a  

comecei a trabalhar muito para economizar dinheiro então meio que estudo uma carreira profissional depois tive vários

lot of different jobs son I was a carpenter  an assistant a bricklayer a seller a waiter

empregos diferentes filho fui carpinteiro ajudante pedreiro vendedor vendedor garçom

well I had to work hard for some  years but unluckily I couldn't  

bem, tive que trabalhar duro por alguns anos, mas infelizmente não consegui

save enough money to start studying  it was not easy I had to work all  

juntar dinheiro para começar a estudar, não foi fácil, tive que trabalhar o

day to pay the rent wood and many other  different things because I lived alone  

dia todo para pagar o aluguel, madeira e muitas outras coisas diferentes porque morava sozinho,

but one day that changed I was spending too much  time working and I could never save any money  

mas um dia isso mudou Eu estava gastando muito tempo trabalhando e nunca conseguia economizar,

I had studied in an Institute I studied  English and then I started teaching English

estudei em um instituto, estudei inglês e depois comecei a dar aulas de inglês,

but my salary was not so good I didn't  earn enough to pay the University  

mas meu salário não era tão bom, não ganhava o suficiente para pagar a universidade,

but one day I decided I was going to start  no matter what and maybe you're asking how

mas um dia eu decidi que iria começar de qualquer jeito e talvez você esteja perguntando o quão

well I didn't even know how I went to the  admission office and asked for information  

bem eu nem sabia como fui até a secretaria e pedi informações

about a career they gave me all the  information it was not cheap at all

sobre uma carreira eles me deram todas as informações não foi nada barato

I still didn't know how I was  going to pay for my studies  

eu ainda não sabia como ia pagar meus estudos

but I took the exam anyway I mean  the University admission test  

mas fiz o exame mesmo assim, quer dizer, o vestibular

I passed that test and I got a vacancy I was so  happy even when I didn't know how I would pay

passei naquele teste e consegui uma vaga fiquei tão feliz mesmo sem saber como iria pagar

Oh but before that I forgot to tell you  before I took my exam I told you I want  

Ah, mas antes disso eu esqueci de te contar antes de fazer o exame eu te disse que quero

to ask for information well there was a woman  who interviewed me to know my scale of payments

pedir informações, bem, houve uma mulher que me entrevistou para saber minha escala de pagamentos,

she asked me a lot of questions questions like  where do you live what do you do for a living  

ela me fez muitas perguntas, perguntas como onde você mora o que você faz da vida

who are your parents what are your plans  for the future how much do you earn a month

quem são seus pais quais são seus planos para o futuro quanto você ganha por mês

you know I come from a poor City my parents  are poor and we went through difficult times  

você sabe que venho de uma cidade pobre meus pais são pobres e passamos por momentos difíceis

I explained that to the woman who was  interviewing me she was a psychologist

eu expliquei isso para a mulher que estava me entrevistando ela era psicóloga

and then she told me something that was  going to change the course of my life  

e então ela me contou uma coisa que iria mudar o rumo da minha vida

she told me you shouldn't study at this University  

ela me disse que você não deveria estudar nesta universidade

you are poor and you don't earn enough  money you should go to a public university

você é pobre e não ganha dinheiro suficiente você deveria ir para um universidade pública

I was like I didn't know what to answer she  continued you better go to a public university  

eu fiquei tipo não sabia o que responder ela continuou é melhor você ir para uma universidade pública

because you won't be able to pay for this one  you will have a lot of problems you can't do it

porque você não vai conseguir pagar por essa você vai ter muitos problemas não vai conseguir

I was shocked by what she had told me I always  wanted to go to that University because I knew  

fiquei chocado pelo que ela me contou eu sempre quis ir para aquela universidade porque sabia

it was one of the best in the country of course it  was not cheap but I wanted to study there anyway

que era uma das melhores do país claro que não era barato mas eu queria estudar lá mesmo assim

and when she said you can't do it I felt terrible  I felt that all my dreams were collapsing  

e quando ela disse que não dá para eu me senti péssimo senti que todos os meus sonhos estavam desmoronando

that day I went to my apartment and I was thinking  about what she had told me I was so depressed

naquele dia fui para meu apartamento e fiquei pensando no que ela tinha me contado eu estava tão deprimido

but then I got angry just because she told me  I couldn't I wasn't going to listen to her am  

mas depois fiquei com raiva só porque ela me disse que eu não podia, eu não ia para ouvi-la estou

I right well the next day I went back  to the office and paid to take my test

bem, no dia seguinte voltei para o escritório e paguei para fazer minha prova

as I told you before I passed the test and I was  in I was very happy but I still didn't know how I  

como te contei antes de passar na prova e entrei fiquei muito feliz mas ainda não sabia como

was going to pay for the University I think that  psychologists motivated me to take that decision

estava vou pagar a universidade, acho que os psicólogos me motivaram a tomar essa decisão,

yeah I mean she told me I couldn't do it and  I didn't like what she said so I did it I know  

sim, quero dizer, ela me disse que eu não poderia fazer isso e eu não gostei do que ela disse, então fiz isso, eu sei, eu sei, eu sei,

I know I know that sounds crazy but it really  happened that's how my professional life started

isso parece loucura mas aconteceu mesmo foi assim que minha vida profissional começou

happily I had a credit card the bank had given  to me some months before so I asked for a loan  

feliz eu tinha um cartão de crédito que o banco me deu alguns meses antes então pedi um empréstimo

and they gave it to me that's how I could pay  the University but it was a lot of money anyway

e eles me deram assim eu poderia pagar a Universidade mas era muito dinheiro de qualquer maneira

the money I earned every month wasn't enough  by my second year of college I already owed  

o dinheiro que ganhei todos os meses não foi suficiente no meu segundo ano de faculdade eu já devia

the bank a lot of money so I have to find a  solution otherwise I couldn't continue studying

muito dinheiro ao banco então tenho que encontrar uma solução senão não poderia continuar estudando investiguei

I investigated a lot to find a solution  then I find out that the University was  

muito para encontrar uma solução então Descubro que a Universidade

given a scholarship but this scholarship was  only for the best students in the University  

recebeu uma bolsa de estudos, mas essa bolsa era apenas para os melhores alunos da Universidade

Anna was not the best in fact

Anna não era a melhor, na verdade,

when I was at the school I failed maths many times  and I had to go to the summer school to fix it  

quando eu estava na escola, reprovei muitas vezes em matemática e tive que ir para a escola de verão para consertar

I was not a good student but I had to do it this  time I had no option I had to be the best student

eu não era um bom aluno mas dessa vez tive que fazer isso não tive opção tive que ser o melhor aluno

if I wanted to continue studying I had to  become the best student and have high grades  

se eu quisesse continuar estudando tinha que me tornar o melhor aluno e ter notas altas

it was not easy but I had to do it anyway so I  decided to work really hard to reach that goal

não foi fácil mas tive que fazer mesmo assim então decidi trabalhar muito para atingir esse objetivo

and you know what the worst thing was that I had  to be the best student and work at the same time  

e vocês sabem qual foi a pior coisa que eu tive ser o melhor aluno e trabalhar ao mesmo tempo,

yeah I had to keep working as a teacher to pay  the university the bank loan and all my stuff

sim, tive que continuar trabalhando como professor para pagar a universidade, o empréstimo do banco e todas as minhas coisas,

I spent a lot of nights studying hard sometimes  I didn't sleep because I had an important exam  

passei muitas noites estudando muito, às vezes não dormia porque tinha um trabalho importante exame

the next morning I had to get a perfect score if  I wanted to get that scholarship it was not easy

na manhã seguinte eu tinha que tirar nota máxima se quisesse conseguir aquela bolsa não foi fácil

I didn't eat well remember I lived alone and most  

eu não comia bem lembro que morava sozinho e na maioria

of the times I didn't have enough  time to cook some healthy food  

das vezes não tinha tempo para cozinhar alguma comida saudável

so I sometimes just fry something to it  or ordered something to eat for delivery

então Às vezes eu simplesmente frito alguma coisa ou peço algo para comer no delivery,

but all those efforts one day ped off seriously  I worked hard and I became the best student in  

mas um dia todo esse esforço deu certo, trabalhei duro e me tornei o melhor aluno da

the University I got the scholarship even  when I had always been the worst student

universidade, consegui a bolsa mesmo quando sempre fui o pior aluno,

can you believe it I graduated  from University and now here I am  

você pode acredite, me formei na universidade e agora aqui estou,

I am a licensed English teacher I earn enough  money to pay the rent and everything I'm so happy

sou um professor de inglês licenciado, ganho dinheiro suficiente para pagar o aluguel e tudo mais, estou tão feliz,

I just want to tell you that if you want  something to happen don't just wait for it  

só quero te dizer que se você quer que algo aconteça, não espere para que isso

to happen do something about it whatever but  try to do something you can do it I trust you

aconteça, faça algo a respeito, seja o que for, mas tente fazer algo que você pode fazer. Eu confio em você,
