Now the first word I want to talk to you about is this one.

والآن أول كلمة أريد أن أخبركم بها عنها هي هذه الكلمة

How do you saw it?

كيف رأيتموها ؟

Go on, give it a go.

The word is choir.

الكلمة هي ( choir = كورال )

Choir.

( choir = كورال )

The next word, number two, is this one.

الكلمة التالية , وهي ..

It's difficult because we've got the er sound twice.

إنها صعبة لأننا استخدمنا صوت er مرتين

Rural, rural.

(Rural = قروي )

(mumbles), it doesn't sound nice when I say it.

( ليس من الجيد ان اقولها )

Rural.

(Rural = قروي )

Now the next one, number three, is actually a place name.

و الآن الكلمة الثالثة , هي في الحقيقة أسم مكان

It's a county in the UK.

مدينة في المملكة المتحدة

Is Worcestershire.

و هي ورشستر

Worcestershire.

ورشستر

So people want to say Worcestershire, or Worcestershire,

الناس في الغالب ينطقونها Worcestershire, or Worcestershire,

but it should be woosta, woosta, Worcestershire.

ولكنها يجب ان تكون woosta, woosta ورشستر

How do we pronounce, and that brings me on to my next one,

كيف ننطق , ذلك ما ينقلني للكلمة التالية

number four, which is this.

الكلمة الرابعة و هي ..

Is it shire, is it shire, or is it shire?

هل هي ...؟

The answer is it can be all of them.

الإجابة هي أن بالإمكان أن تكون جميعهم

Officially it should be shire, or shire,

رسمياّ يجب ان تكون shire .. أو shire ...

but a lot of people blend the two and say shire.

و لكن الكثير من الناس ينطقونها shire

That's what my family and I say.

وذلك ما اقوله انا و اسرتي

We're from Bedfordshire.

نحن من بيدفوردشير

I'm living in Cambridgeshire.

انا اعيش في كامبريدجشير

The next one, number five, is prelude, prelude.

الكلمة الخامسة هي ( prelude = افتتاحية )

A lot of people want to say prelude, or prelude,

الكثير من الناس ينطقونها .....

but it should be prelude.

و لكنها يجب ان تكون ....

The next one, number six, are we on number six?

الكلمة التالية رقم ستة .. هل نحن في الكلمة السادسة ؟

Yes.

أجل

The next one, number six,

الكلمة التالية , السادسة

is a word that most native people will know

و هي كلمة يعرفها اغلب الناطقين المحليين

but when I was teaching Spaniards English

ولكن عندما كنت أَدرس للطلاب الاسبان

they never knew how to pronounce it

لم يعرفوا كيفية نطقها أبداّ

because it's quite a complicated spelling.

لأن نطقها معقد بعض الشيء

It's this one.

و هي كلمة

How do we say it?

كيف ننطقها ؟

It's squirrel, squirrel.

و هي كلمة ( squirrel = سنجاب )

And that irrel, irrel,

و ذلك الصوت irrel

people with Chinese as their mother tongue,

لـ الذين لغتهم الام الصينية

that might be a really difficult one

سوف يجدونها صعبة حقا

because ir and ul often get confused.

لأن صوتي ir and ul غالبا يتداخلون

So squirrel, squirrel.

لذلك ( squirrel = سنجاب )

Two syllables there.

بها مقطعين صوتيين

The next one, number seven.

الكلمة السابعة

This one.

We've got that er sound again.

لدينا صوت er مرة أخرى

Juror, juror.

( Juror = محلف )

Also people suffer with the juror, er sound.

ايضا َ يعاني الناس في Juror من صوت er

Juror.

( Juror = محلف )

It's a very complicated mouth movement

ان لها حرمة فم معقدة

that you have to make.

يجب ان تقوم بها

Er.

er

I almost stick my chin when I say it.

انا غالبا اقضب ذقني عندما اقولها

Juror, juror.

Beautiful angle there.

ملاك جميل هناك

The next one, number eight.

الكلمة التالية الثامنة

Spherical, spherical.

spherical=كروي

It's a very satisfying one to say, isn't it?

انها كلمة مريحة في النطق

Spherical.

spherical - كروي

A lot of people say spherical

كثير من الناس ينطقونها ......

because we have a sphere and a sphere is spherical.

لأننا لدينة كلمة sphere ومنها sphere مثل spherical

But it should be eh, not ir, eh.

و لكنها يجب ان تكون eh و ليس ir

Spherical.

spherical=كروي

Number nine, this one.

الكلمة التاسعة

Frenchies, where are you, because this one is yours.

فرانشيس أين انت , لأن هذه الكلمة لك

Valet, valet.

( Valet = الاختيار )

But you will hear some people saying valet, valet.

و لكنك ستسمع بعض الناس ينطقونها ..

That pronunciation is accepted by some dictionaries

و هذا النطق مقبول في بعض القواميس

but come on, guys.

و لكن يا رفاق

Let's say valet.

دعونا ننطقها هكذا

Number 10, pronunciation.

و الكلمة العاشرة ( pronunciation = النطق )

(laughing)

Now this one is a really common mistake.

في الحقيقة هذا خطأ شائع

Pronunciation, how you pronounce something.

النطق , كيف تنطق شيئاَ ما

A lot of people will say pronunciation.

بعض الناس ينطقونها

Sometimes I get accused of saying pronunciation in my videos

بعض الوقت انا التمس العذر لأقولها في فيديوهاتي

but really it is just my accent.

و لكن في الحقيقة هي فقط لكنتي

Pronunciation, nunciation.

pronunciation

I say it so quickly and people like to pick at me

اقولها بسرعة و الناس تود ان تجاري نطقي

and wait for me to make a mistake

و تنتظرني أن أرتكب خطأ

because I'm meant to be correct all the time.

لأنني أعمل أن أكون صائبة كل الوقت

Number 11.

الكلمة الحادية عشر

This one I've heard so many different pronunciations

هذه الكلمة سمعت لها اكثر من نطق مختلف

that I honestly before researching this video

و لذلك بكل صدق قبل بحثي عن هذا الفيديو

didn't know which one was right.

لا اعرف اي نطق هو الصحيح

It should be mauve, mauve.

يجب ان تكون

Many people will say mauve or mauve

العديد من الناس سوف يقولونها

but it should be mauve.

و لكنها يجب ان تكون

The next one, number 12.

الكلمة الثانية عشر

Regime, regime.

( Regime = نظام حكم او نظام غذائي )

Which one should it be?

ايهما يجب أن تكون ؟

It should be regime.

اعتقد انها يجب ان تكون Regime

I've got a new regime.

انا اتبع حمية جديدة

The next one, number 13, is this one.

الكلمة الثالثة عشر

Now because it comes from French

و لأنها كلمة فرنسية

it should be pronounced niche with a shh,

يجب ان تنطق بصوت shh

a soft shh sound at the end, unvoiced.

صوت shh ناعم و هامس في نهايتها

But many people will pronounce it niche,

و لكن العديد من الناس سوف ينطقونها niche

which sounds so ugly compared to niche,

و هو صوت قبيح جدا بمقارنته بصوت shh

which is so beautiful and airy and breathy,

و الذي هو صوت جميل و عذب

and then niche.

و بعد ذلك niche

Niche?

Niche?

Yes, niche!

نعم

The next one, number 14,

الكلمة الرابعة عشر

is more a confusion between two words.

و هي اكثر التباس بين كلمتين

It's moot, moot.

انها moot

It's a matter about which

المهم عنها انها

there may be discussion or confusion

من الممكن ان تلتبس او تشوش

but people generally confuse it with mute,

و لكن الناس بشكل عام تخلط بينها و بين كلمة mute

which means silent, not speaking, not making a noise.

و التي تعني صامت او لا يتكلم او لا يصدر ضوضاء

Moot, mute.

Moot, mute.

The next one, this one.

الكلمة التالية

You might ask for a nice beer.

من الممكن ان تسأل عن جعة جيدة

It's draught.

انها draught

I used to work in a pub

اعتدت ان اعمل في pub

and I heard people ask for a draught beer a couple of times,

و سمعت الناس يطلبون جعة draught اكثر من مرة

but it's a draught, draught beer.

و لكنها تنطق draught , جعة draught

Number 16, this one.

السادسة عشر

Yes, in my lifetime I have heard someone say albeit.

أجل لقد سمعت في حياتي أحدا قال ( albeit = و ان يكن )

Albeit?

And I was thinking albeit?

albeit

و لقد فكرت .. albeit ؟

What do they mean?

ماذا يقصد هؤلاء ؟

Turns out it's albeit, albeit.

لـ أكتشف انهم يقصدون albeit

The next one, and this is one that my Italian ex-flatmate

الكلمة التالية , و هذه من الممكن ان يكون لها اصل ايطالي

used to pronounce incorrectly all the time.

من المعتاد ان تنطق بشكل غير صحيح دائماَ

He used to say lettuce.

اعتاد ان يقول lettuce

(laughing)

"Lettuce in the house!"

lettuce في المنزل

No, it's lettuce, lettuce.

لا انها lettuce

Yeah, confusing spelling there.

نهم نطق مشوش هنا

The next one,

الكلمة التالية

a word that you might not use in everyday conversation,

كلمة من الممكن انكم لا تستخدموها في محادثاتكم اليومية

but it's an interesting one because it's such a bizarre

ولكنها مثيرة للاهتمام لأنها غريبة

spelling and pronunciation difference,

نطقها حرفيا و تلفظها الصوتي مختلفان

colonel, not colonel.

Colonel.

Why, why?

لماذا ؟

I'm sure there's a fabulous reason behind it, actually.

انا متأكدة ان هناك سبب رائع وراء ذلك

(electronic notification)

I just researched it.

It was colonel and then colonel

لقد بحثت عنها

لقد كانت colonel ثم تحولت الى colonel

and that's where the modern pronunciation came from.

و من هنا جاء النطق الحديث

Colonel, just a squashed up version of colonel.

colonel هو النسخة المنقحة من colonel

The next one, number 19, is another place name

الكلمة التاسعة عشر , اسم لمكان آخر

and this one is important because we have GMT.

و هذه الكلمة مهمة لأننا لدينا توقيت جرينتش

I hear a lot of people saying Greenwich

اغلب الناس يقولونها

and I can totally understand why you would say that,

و بامكاني ان افهم لماذا تنطقونها هكذا

because reading it, Greenwich, it makes sense.

لأن نطقها جرينتش اكثر منطقية

But no, it's Greenwich, Greenwich.

و لكنها جرينتش

The next one, infamous.

التالية هي infamous

I've heard a couple of people pronounce it infamous,

لقد سمعت زوجين من الناس ينطقونها infamous

which is incorrect.

و ذلك غير صحيح

Infamous.

infamous

Number 20, this one.

الكلمة العشرون

I used to pronounce this incorrectly.

لقد اعتدت ان انطقها بشكل خاطئ

This one is gauge,

انها كلمة gauge

but it looks like it should be pronounced gorg.

ولكنها تبدو يجب ان تنطق gorg

But no, it's gauge.

و لكنها gauge

You're gorg, this is gauge.

كلمة gorg الخاصة بك انها gauge

Gorgeous, you all look gorgeous.
