I truly loved him.

My father had left the family home when I was quite young,

When I ended up working for him years and years later

Not only me, I remember walking around the corner at work one day

and there's always someone in his office.

There was always someone waiting for him,

He was good-looking.

Beautiful wife, my cousin.

Three beautiful children.

Why would someone like that take their own life?

Why would they?

Makes no sense to me.

And at the funeral,

and talking to people after the funeral,

just the frustration,

"Did you know?" "Did you know?"

“ခင်းဗျား သိလား၊” “ခင်ဗျား သိခဲ့သိလား၊”

"Did anyone know?" "Did you get a clue?"

“တစ်ယောက်ယောက် သိလား” ” သဲလွန်စ ရလား၊” လို့ပါ။

And of course everyone's saying, "No, I didn't have a clue.

တကယ်တော့ လူတိုင်းက ပြောနေတာက “ဟင့်အင်း၊ သဲလွန်စ မရှိဘူး။

In fact, he was just like you're saying, he was my go-to guy."

တကယ်တော့ ခင်ဗျား ပြောနေသလိုပဲ သူက ယုံကြည်၊အားကိုးလို့ရတဲ့ လူတစ်ယောက်ပါ“တဲ့။

He seemed to tick all the boxes.

သူက လိုအပ်တာတွေ ဖြည့်နေသူပါ။

He seemed to just know what to say at the right time,

and he seemed to be able to work his way,

I told that story on a breakfast show that I was on

I was on there for 11 years.

And one morning, I decided to be vulnerable.

We didn't want to sort of drag them down with personal stuff or being vulnerable.

But one morning, 4:30 in the morning,

I'm going to talk about something that I haven't spoken about before,

and it's been eating away at me and I want to do it."

And they supported me.

We've been on for a long time, we were like brothers.

So 8:05 just after the eight o'clock news, the Hollywood hour in radio land,

we flicked on the mics,

and I told the story that I just told you guys.

It was hard.

I was getting support from my cohost,

But what was truly happening behind me

was all the phone lines into the radio station were flashing,

which means people were phoning in.

Normally those lines would be for you to ring up to be part of the show,

to tell a joke, to win a concert ticket, to win a movie ticket.

All of a sudden, all those lines were flashing.

Didn't quite realize why.

The producer comes in and says,

ထုတ်လုပ်သူက ဝင်လာပြီး ပြောတာက

"We've got all these people that want to thank you for telling your story."

I thought, that's nice.

I've put myself out there,

It is nice to get a little bit of love like that.

So we started putting a few calls through.

So what we did for the next 90 minutes

It was impressive that so many people went,

I'm talking about my stuff now because he spoke about that,"

that's when you know that they're being real.

And it made me think.

I wonder how many other people are worrying alone?

If we just opened it up on this radio show on this morning and I tell my story,

then we have 90 minutes of people going, "Me too," "Me too," "Me too,"

I wonder how many people are out there feeling exactly the same way.

So that day changed my life.

I decided to commit myself to being more honest, more vulnerable.

But even more importantly, let's get suicide prevention down to zero.

A huge call, I know, and I said it in the Australian press

and everyone gave it to me, but I don't care.

I’ve been running a foundation called “Gotcha4Life.”

I want everyone in the world to find someone who has got you for life.

Why do we keep celebrating with lots of people in parties

Why is that the case?

I think we're all big enough and ugly enough in here to know them.

65,000 people in Australia try to take their own life every single year.

ဩစတြေးလျက လူပေါင်း ၆၅,၀၀၀ ဟာ နှစ်စဉ် ကိုယ့်ကိုယ်ကို သတ်သေဖို့ ကြိုးစားကြတယ်။

The number one way to die, if you’re a young Australian male,

ခင်ဗျားက ဩစတြေးလျ လူငယ်တစ်ယောက်ဆိုရင်၊ ကိုယ့်ကိုယ်ကိုယ် သတ်သေဖို့က

is suicide.

နံပါတ်တစ် နည်းလမ်းပါ။

Now, according to the World Health Organization, WHO,

ကမ္ဘာ့ကျန်းမာရေးအဖွဲ့ရဲ့အဆိုအရ၊

they tell me that over 1,900 people that woke up this morning

ဒီမနက် နိုးလာတဲ့ လူပေါင်း ၁,၉၀၀ ကျော်ဟာ

won't wake up tomorrow morning.

မနက်ဖြန် မနက် နိုးလာမှာမဟုတ်ဘူး။

They would have taken their own life.

သူတို့ဟာ ကိုယ့်ကိုယ်ကိုယ် သတ်သေကြမှာပါ။

On top of that, 38,000, nearly 40,000 people

ဒါ့အပြင် လူပေါင်း ၃၈,၀၀၀၊ ၄၀,၀၀၀ နီးပါးက

will try to take their own life today.

ဒီနေ့ ကိုယ့်ကိုယ်ကိုယ် သတ်သေဖို့ ကြိုးစားလိမ့်မယ်။

1,900 people today.

ဒီနေ့ လူပေါင်း ၁,၉၀၀ ပါ။

38,000 will attempt today around the world.

၃၈,၀၀၀ က ဒီနေ့ ကမ္ဘာတစ်ဝန်းမှာ ကြိုးစားမှာပါ။

Now, I don't know you guys very well,

ခင်ဗျားတို့ကိုတော့ ကောင်းကောင်းမသိပေမဲ့၊

but I'm sure, in the last couple of days I've got the vibe and the love

ရက်အနည်းငယ်က ကမ္ဘာကို ပိုကောင်းတဲ့ နေရာအဖြစ် ကြိုးစား၊ဖန်တီးဖို့

that we are all here to try and make the world a better place.

အားလုံး ရှိနေတယ်ဆိုတဲ့ ခံစားမှုနဲ့ ချစ်မေတ္တာ ရခဲ့တာသေချာတယ်။

So this is not what we're going to accept.

ဒါက ကျွန်တော်တို့ လက်ခံမယ့်အရာ မဟုတ်ဘူး။

This is a line in the sand, time to go, "No, no more."

ဒါက ငြင်းဆိုဖို့ပါ၊ သွားဖို့ အချိန်ပါ။ “ထပ်မဖြစ်ပါနဲ့တော့”။

But what can you do?

ဒါပေမဲ့ ဘာလုပ်နိုင်သလဲ။

If you look at the world as this huge, big place,

ကမ္ဘာကို ကြီးမားတဲ့ နေရာအဖြစ် ရှုမြင်ရင်၊

it might be too big a task for you to deal with.

ဖြေရှင်းဖို့ ကြီးလွန်းတဲ့ အလုပ် ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်။

It might be too big in your own country.

သင့်နိုင်ငံမှာ ဒါက သိပ်ကြီးနိုင်တယ်။

It might be too big in your own city.

သင့်မြို့မှာ ဒါက သိပ်ကြီးနိုင်တယ်။

But what if we just started looking after your own village?

ဒါပေမဲ့ ကိုယ့်ရပ်ရွာကိုပဲ စောင့်ရှောက်လိုက်ရင်ကော။

What if we just say, "I'm just going to look after my own people,

” ကိုယ့်လူမျိုး၊ ကိုယ် ချစ်ခင်၊လေးစားတဲ့၊ သူတို့မရှိဘဲ ရှင်သန်ဖို့

the people that I love and adore and I cannot imagine living without?"

စိတ်ကူးကြည့်လို့မရတဲ့ လူတွေကိုပဲ စောင့်ရှောက်မယ်” ပြောရင်ကော။

Just imagine that.

ဒါကို စိတ်ကူးကြည့်ပါ။

In the last few years, I've been so lucky to talk to people

နှစ်အနည်းငယ်က သတ်သေဖို့ ကြိုးစားခဲ့တဲ့ လူတွေနဲ့

that have tried to take their life, but they're still with us.

စကားပြောဖို့ ကံကောင်းခဲ့တယ်၊ ဒါပေမဲ့ သူတို့က အတူ ရှိနေတုန်းပါ။

Now those conversations are hard.

အဲဒီစကားဝိုင်းတွေက ခက်ခဲပါတယ်။

I feel extremely blessed to be able to be in those one-on-one conversations.

ဒီတစ်ယောက်ချင်း စကားဝိုင်းတွေမှာ ပါနိုင်တဲ့အတွက် ကံထူးတယ်လို့ ခံစားရတယ်။

You know what comes out of those conversations?

ဒီစကားဝိုင်းတွေကနေ ထွက်လာတာကို သိလား။

Three things.

အချက် သုံးချက်ပါ။

One, they didn't want to die.

တစ်ခုက သူတို့ မသေချင်ကြဘူး။

They tried to take their own life, but they didn't want to die.

သတ်သေဖို့ ကြိုးစားကြပေမဲ့ မသေချင်ကြဘူး။

That gave me great hope.

ဒါက မျှော်လင့်ချက်ကြီးကို ပေးခဲ့တယ်။

The other thing was that they were tired, and they were in pain.

နောက်တစ်ခုက သူတို့ မောပန်းပြီး နာကျင်နေကြတာပါ။

So if you combine tired and pain together,

ဒါကြောင့် မောပန်းမှုနဲ့ နာကျင်မှုကို အတူ ပေါင်းလိုက်ရင်၊

you make a shit decision.

အရေးမပါတဲ့ ဆုံးဖြတ်ချက်ချတာပါ။

We all know this.

ဒါကို အားလုံး သိကြပါတယ်။

If you are not rested and you're in pain, you make bad calls.

နားနားနေနေမဟုတ်ဘဲ၊ နာကျင်နေရင် မကောင်းတဲ့ နှိုးဆော်မှုတွေ လုပ်တယ်။

So if we know that they don't want to die, but they've tried to take their life,

ဒါကြောင့် သူတို့ မသေချင်ပေမဲ့၊ သတ်သေဖို့ ကြိုးစားတာကို ကျွန်တော်တို့ သိရင်၊

ဒါက ကျွန်တော်တို့ ဆုပ်ကိုင်ရမယ့် မျှော်လင့်ချက်ပါ။

that's the hope that we need to hold on to.

That means if we can get to people

လူတွေ ခံစားပုံနဲ့ပတ်သက်ပြီး

before they get to an eight, nine out of ten in terms of how they feel,

၁၀ယောက်ထဲက ၈ ယောက်၊ ၉ ယောက်ဆီ မရောက်ခင်၊ ရောက်နိုင်ရင်

we can actually stop them making that permanent decision

ယာယီအခြေအနေပေါ်အခြေခံတဲ့

based on a temporary situation.

ထာဝရ ဆုံးဖြတ်ချက်ချတာကို တကယ်ရပ်တန့်နိုင်တာပါ။

That's what it's all about.

ဒါက အားလုံးနဲ့ ပတ်သက်တာပါ။

And that's what I want to do with you guys now, if I possibly can.

ဒါက အခု ခင်ဗျားတို့နဲ့ လုပ်ချင်တာပါ။ ဖြစ်နိုင်ရင်ပေါ့။

Just in the small amount of time I got left,

ကျန်နေတဲ့ အချိန်အနည်းငယ်လောက်မှာပဲ

I want you to trust me that I'm going to put my big bear hug,

ကျွန်တော် အားပါးတရ ပွေ့ဖက်မယ်ဆိုတာကို ယုံကြည်စေချင်တယ်။

and if you knew me well, I'd be hugging all of you if I possibly can.

Do you know what that person’s name is, and have you got them locked in?

Now open your eyes.

After three, I want you to shout that person's name out.

You need to do something for me

to that person that you just shouted out.

I need you to send them a text message.

Simple as that.

Having these face-to-face conversations, I understand, is hard.

But when we're building our mental fitness,

So I want you to walk up to the mental fitness gym for me

and just open up those doors, and I want you to send a text.

But the words to the text are this:

ဒါကို မှတ်မိနိုင်ကြမယ်လို့ မျှော်လင့်ပါတယ်။

Hopefully you can remember that.

I'll be outside if you want to get -- or ask someone,

I'm going to hunt you down.

And the reason I'm doing that is because I want everyone just to have

ဒီလိုလုပ်ရတဲ့ အကြောင်းရင်းကတော့ လူတိုင်းကို ကိုယ့်အတွက်

a little bit of connection with the person that is most important to you,

အရေးပါဆုံး လူနဲ့ နည်းနည်းဆက်သွယ်စေချင်လို့ပါ။

that person that you thought about straight away as you shut your eyes

ခင်ဗျားတို့ မျက်စိမှိတ်ပြီး ပြောတာက “ဒါ ငါ့လူ” လို့

and went, "OK, that's my person."

ချက်ချင်း တွေးမိတဲ့လူပါ။

It's all about connection.

ဒါက ဆက်သွယ်မှုနဲ့ ပတ်သက်နေတာပါ။

It's all about making sure that you look after the people

ဒါက ခင်ဗျားအတွက် အရေးပါဆုံးလူတွေကို

the people that are most important to you.

စောင့်ရှောက်ဖို့ သေချာစေဖို့ပါ။

Work can wait.

အလုပ်က စောင့်နိုင်ပါတယ်။

It'll always be there, they'll always replace you.

အမြဲ ရှိနေမယ်၊ ခင်ဗျားကို အမြဲအစားထိုးမှာပါ။

But not these people.

ဒါပေမဲ့ ဒီလူတွေ မဟုတ်ဘူး။

I would give anything to have a cup of tea, a beer,

ကိုယ့်ကိုယ်ကိုယ် သတ်သေခဲ့တဲ့ ကျွန်တော့မိတ်ဆွေနဲ့

go to a footy match with my man who took his own life.

လက်ဖက်ရည်တစ်ခွက်၊ဘီယာတစ်ခွက်၊ ဘောပွဲသွားဖို့ ဘာမဆို ပေးမယ်။

I'll never be able to do that.

ဒါကို ဘယ်တော့မှ လုပ်နိုင်မှာမဟုတ်ဘူး။

Let's make sure that we look after our village.

ကိုယ့်ရပ်ရွာကိုစောင့်ရှောက်ဖို့ သေချာရအောင်။

Make sure we look after the people that are most important to you.

ကိုယ့်အတွက် အရေးပါဆုံး လူတွေကို စောင့်ရှောက်ဖို့ သေချာစေပါစေ။

That is absolutely key.

ဒါက လုံးဝ အရေးပါတယ်။

The worst thing?

အဆိုးဆုံး အရာလား။

The text message gets sent out,

တစ်ယောက်ယောက်က စာပို့ပြီး ပြောတာက

someone goes, "What the --"

“သောက်သုံး ...“

Or, "Are you drunk?"

Or if a man sends it to a man,

there will be a phone call within 30 seconds, guaranteed.

Or the worst case scenario?

That's a pretty cool way to connect yourself up
