In this video, we’re going to talk about the articles; ‘a’, ‘an’ and ‘the’.

ဤဗီဒီယိုတွင်၊ ဆောင်းပါးများအကြောင်းပြောပါမည်။ 'a'၊ 'an' နှင့် 'the'။

Now this can be very confusing, so please make sure you pay careful attention.

ယခု ဤအရာသည် အလွန်ရှုပ်ထွေးနိုင်သည်၊ ထို့ကြောင့် သေချာစွာ ဂရုပြုပါ။

We use articles in front of nouns.

နာမ်၏ ရှေ့တွင် ဆောင်းပါးများကို သုံးသည်။

Okay, so remember that and let’s look at the board.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ အဲဒါကို မှတ်ထားပြီး ဘုတ်ကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

First, we use ‘a’ or ‘an’ when we’re talking about any one thing.

ပထမအချက်အနေနဲ့ တစ်ခုခုအကြောင်းပြောတဲ့အခါ 'a' သို့မဟုတ် 'an' ကို သုံးပါတယ်။

For example, let’s say I say, “A banana is delicious.”

ဥပမာအားဖြင့် “ငှက်ပျောသီးက အရသာရှိတယ်” လို့ ဆိုကြပါစို့။

Okay, that means all bananas.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ဆိုလိုတာက ငှက်ပျောသီးအားလုံး။

Any banana is delicious.

ငှက်ပျောသီးက အရသာရှိတယ်။

“A banana is delicious.”

"ငှက်ပျောသီးက အရသာရှိတယ်။"

Okay, let’s jump over here.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ဒီမှာ ခုန်ရအောင်။

If I’m talking about a specific banana…

ငှက်ပျောသီးတစ်လုံးအကြောင်း အတိအကျပြောရင်...

maybe I have a banana in my hand.

ငါ့လက်ထဲမှာ ငှက်ပျောသီးတစ်လုံး ရှိကောင်းရှိမယ်။

It’s specific, not any banana, this one.

ငှက်ပျောသီး မဟုတ်ဘူး၊ ဒါက အတိအကျပဲ။

I have to use ‘the’,

"ငှက်ပျောသီးက ဟောင်းနေပြီ"

“The banana is old.”

လို့ သုံးရမှာပေါ့ ။

Okay. This one.

ဟုတ်ပြီ ဒီတစ်ခု။

I can’t say, “A banana is old.”

“ငှက်ပျောသီးက ဟောင်းနေပြီ” လို့ မပြောနိုင်ဘူး။

Then that means all bananas are old.

ဒါဆိုရင် ငှက်ပျောသီးအားလုံး ဟောင်းနေပြီလို့ ဆိုလိုပါတယ်။

And that’s not true. Just this one.

ပြီးတော့ အဲဒါ မမှန်ဘူး။ ဒီတစ်ခုပဲ။

So, I say, “The banana is old.”

ဒါကြောင့် "ငှက်ပျောသီးက ဟောင်းနေပြီ" လို့ပြောတာပါ။

Okay, let’s move over here.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ဒီကိုရွှေ့ကြရအောင်။

We also use ‘a’ or ‘an’ when we’re talking about something for the first time.

ပထမအကြိမ် တစ်ခုခုအကြောင်းပြောတဲ့အခါ 'a' သို့မဟုတ် 'an' ကိုလည်း သုံးပါတယ်။

So, I have another example here.

ဒီတော့ ဒီနေရာမှာ နောက်ထပ် ဥပမာတစ်ခု ရှိပါသေးတယ်။

“I watched a movie.”

"ကျွန်တော် ရုပ်ရှင်ကြည့်တယ်။"

Okay.

I’m talking about this movie for the first time, so I have to use “…a movie”.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

ဒီရုပ်ရှင်အကြောင်း ပထမဆုံးပြောဖြစ်တာက “…a movie” ကို သုံးရပါမယ်။

But, if I want to talk about this movie again,

ဒါပေမယ့် ဒီဇာတ်ကားအကြောင်း ထပ်ပြောချင်ရင်

for the second time, or the third time or fourth, fifth…

ဒုတိယ အကြိမ်၊ တတိယ အကြိမ် ဒါမှမဟုတ် စတုတ္ထ၊ ပဉ္စမမြောက်...

it doesn’t matter.

ကိစ္စမရှိပါဘူး။

I have to use ‘the’.

'နိ' ကို သုံးရမယ်။

“The movie was fun.”

"ရုပ်ရှင်က ပျော်စရာကောင်းတယ်။"

I’m talking about this one. The specific.

ဒီအကြောင်းပြောနေတာ။ သတ်သတ်မှတ်မှတ်။

“The movie was fun.”

"ရုပ်ရှင်က ပျော်စရာကောင်းတယ်။"

I can’t say, “A movie was fun.”

“ရုပ်ရှင်တစ်ကားက ပျော်စရာကောင်းတယ်” လို့ မပြောနိုင်ဘူး။

That means all movies are fun.

ဆိုလိုတာက ရုပ်ရှင်အားလုံးက ပျော်စရာကောင်းတယ်။

That’s not true.

အဲ့ဒါမမှန်ဘူး။

“The movie was fun.”

"ရုပ်ရှင်က ပျော်စရာကောင်းတယ်။"

Okay, and I also use ‘the’

ကောင်းပြီ၊

when I’m talking about a noun where there’s only one and only.

တစ်မျိုးတည်းသာရှိတဲ့ နာမ်အကြောင်းပြောတဲ့အခါ 'the' ကိုလည်း သုံးပါတယ်။

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

For example, there’s only one sun.

ဥပမာ၊ နေတစ်ခုပဲရှိတယ်။

Okay, when I look at the sky, there’s only one sun.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ကောင်းကင်ကို ကြည့်လိုက်တော့ နေတစ်ခုပဲ ရှိတယ်။

So, I say, “The sun.”

ဒါကြောင့် “နေ” လို့ပြောတာပါ။

“The sun is hot.”

"နေကပူတယ်။"

I cannot say, “A sun.”

“နေ” လို့ မပြောနိုင်ဘူး။

That’s wrong.

အဲဒါမှားနေတယ်။

When there’s one and only, we say, “The sun.”

တစ်ခုနှင့်တစ်ခုသာရှိသောအခါ၊ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် "နေ" ဟုပြောကြသည်။

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

Let’s look at some more examples.

နောက်ထပ် ဥပမာအချို့ကို ကြည့်ကြပါစို့။

The first example says, “A lion is dangerous.”

ပထမဥပမာတွင် “ခြင်္သေ့သည် အန္တရာယ်ရှိသည်” ဟုဆိုသည်။

I have to use ‘a’ because I’m talking about any one lion.

ခြင်္သေ့တစ်ကောင်အကြောင်းပြောနေတာဆိုတော့ 'a' ကိုသုံးရမယ်။

Any lion is dangerous.

မည်သည့်ခြင်္သေ့မဆို အန္တရာယ်ရှိသည်။

All lions are dangerous.

ခြင်္သေ့များအားလုံး အန္တရာယ်ရှိသည်။

So, I use ‘a’.

ဒီတော့ ကျွန်တော်က 'a' ကိုသုံးတယ်။

The next sentence says, “It’s a dog.”

နောက်စာကြောင်းက “အဲဒါ ခွေးပဲ” တဲ့။

I’m talking about this dog for the first time, so I use ‘a’.

ဒီခွေးအကြောင်းကို ပထမဆုံးအကြိမ် ပြောတာပါ ဆိုတော့ 'a' ကို သုံးပါတယ်။

Now, I’m talking about this dog for the second time.

အခု ငါ ဒီခွေးအကြောင်း ဒုတိယအကြိမ် ပြောနေတာ။

So, I say, “The dog is cute.”

ဒီတော့ "ခွေးလေးက ချစ်ဖို့ကောင်းလိုက်တာ" လို့ပြောလိုက်တယ်။

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

Here’s a similar example.

ဒါက အလားတူ ဥပမာတစ်ခုပါ။

“It’s an ant.”

“အဲဒါက ပုရွက်ဆိတ်ပဲ။”

Well, I used ‘an’ because we have ‘ant’, which start with a vowel.

သရနဲ့စတဲ့ 'ပုရွက်ဆိတ်' ပါတဲ့အတွက် 'an' ကို သုံးပါတယ်။

And I’m talking about this ant for the first time.

ဒီပုရွက်ဆိတ်အကြောင်း ငါပထမဆုံးပြောနေတာ။

“It’s an ant.”

“အဲဒါက ပုရွက်ဆိတ်ပဲ။”

Now, I’m talking about this ant again.

အခု ဒီပုရွက်ဆိတ်အကြောင်း ထပ်ပြောမယ်။

“The ant is small.”

"ပုရွက်ဆိတ်က သေးသေးလေး။"

“The ant…”, this one, “…is small.”

“ပုရွက်ဆိတ်…”၊ ဒီကောင်၊

Okay, and the last one.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ နောက်ဆုံးတစ်ခု။

“It’s the moon.”

"ဒါက လ"

I have to say, “the moon” because there’s only one moon.

လတစ်စင်းသာရှိလို့ "လ" လို့ ပြောရပါမယ်။

I cannot say, “a moon”.

"လ" လို့ မပြောနိုင်ဘူး။

“It’s the moon.

“ဒါက လ။

The moon…”, only one, “…is round.”

လ…”၊ “…ဝိုင်း”၊

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

Let’s look at some more examples.

နောက်ထပ် ဥပမာအချို့ကို ကြည့်ကြပါစို့။

Okay, we have some more examples,

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့တွင် နောက်ထပ်ဥပမာအချို့ရှိပါသည်၊

but this time I want you to think about whether we should put ‘a’, ‘an’ or ‘the’.

သို့သော် ဤတစ်ကြိမ်တွင် ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် 'a'၊ 'an' သို့မဟုတ် 'the' ကို ထည့်သင့်သလား စဉ်းစားစေချင်ပါသည်။

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

So, “I see ____ desk and ___ chair.”

ဒီတော့ "ကျွန်တော် ____ စားပွဲနဲ့ ___ ကုလားထိုင်ကိုတွေ့တယ်။"

We don’t know which desk and chair.

ဘယ်စားပွဲနဲ့ ကုလားထိုင်လဲ မသိဘူး။

And it’s the first time I’m talking about them.

သူတို့အကြောင်းပြောနေတာ ဒါပထမဆုံးအကြိမ်ပဲ။

So, we have to put ‘a’.

ဒါကြောင့် 'a' ကို ထည့်ရမယ်။

“I see a desk and a chair.”

“စားပွဲတစ်လုံးနဲ့ ကုလားထိုင်တစ်လုံးကို တွေ့တယ်။”

The next one.

နောက်တစ်ခု။

“I see ____ octopus.”

" ____ ရေဘဝဲကိုတွေ့တယ်။"

Okay, this is the same.

အိုကေ၊ ဒါက အတူတူပါပဲ။

It’s the first time I’m talking about this octopus.

ဒီရေဘဝဲအကြောင်းကို ပထမဆုံးပြောတာပါ။

So, do I put ‘a’ or ‘an’?

ဒါဆို ငါ 'a' ဒါမှမဟုတ် 'an' လား?

Well here we have the vowel ‘o’.

ဒီမှာ 'o' သရရှိတယ်။

So we have to put “‘an’ octopus”.

ဒါကြောင့် "an" ရေဘဝဲကို ထည့်ရမယ်။

“I see an octopus.”

"ရေဘဝဲတစ်ကောင်တွေ့တယ်။"

Okay, the next one.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ နောက်တစ်ခု။

“It’s ___ pen.”

“အဲဒါ ___ ဘောပင်ပဲ”

Okay, it’s the same.

အိုကေ၊ အတူတူပါပဲ။

It’s the first time, so I say, “a pen”.

ဒါပထမဆုံးအကြိမ်မို့ “ဘောပင်” လို့ပြောတာပါ။

Now, I’m talking about the pen for the second time.

အခု ငါ ဘောပင်အကြောင်း ဒုတိယအကြိမ် ပြောနေတာ။

So I say, “The pen is red.”

ဒါကြောင့် “ဘောပင်က အနီရောင်” လို့ပြောတာပါ။

Okay, I’m talking about this one.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ငါဒီအကြောင်းပြောနေတာ။

So I say, “the”.

ဒါကြောင့် “နိ” လို့ပြောတာပါ။

Okay, similarly…

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ဒီလိုပါပဲ…

“She is ____ girl.”

“သူက ____ မိန်းကလေးပါ။”

What do I say?

ငါဘာပြောမလဲ။

“a girl.”

"မိန်းကလေးတစ်ယောက်။"

We’re talking about her for the first time.

ငါတို့ ပထမဆုံးအကြိမ် သူမအကြောင်း ပြောနေတာ။

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

And now we’re talking about this girl again, for the second time.

အခုလည်း ဒီကောင်မလေးအကြောင်း ဒုတိယအကြိမ် ထပ်ပြောနေတာ။

So, I have to say, “The girl is pretty.”

ဒီတော့ “ကောင်မလေးက လှတယ်” လို့ပြောရမယ်။

And the last example.

နောက်ဆုံးဥပမာ။

“I can see ___ sky.”

"ကောင်းကင်ကြီးကို ငါမြင်ရတယ် ___"

Now, we only have one sky.

အခု ငါတို့မှာ ကောင်းကင်တစ်ခုပဲရှိတယ်။

Right…

So, if there’s only one and only, we have to put the article ‘the’.

ဟုတ်တယ်…

ဒါဆို တစ်ခုပဲရှိတော့မယ်ဆိုရင် 'the' ဆိုတဲ့ ဆောင်းပါးကို တင်ရမှာပေါ့။

“I can see the sky.”

“ကောင်းကင်ကို မြင်နိုင်တယ်”

Okay.

ဟုတ်ပြီ

So in this video, we talked about the articles ‘a’, ‘an’ and ‘the’.

ဒါကြောင့် ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ 'a'၊ 'an' နဲ့ 'the' ဆောင်းပါးတွေအကြောင်း ပြောထားပါတယ်။
