In this video, we’re going to talk about the articles; ‘a’, ‘an’ and ‘the’.

في هذا الفيديو ، سنتحدث عن المقالات ؛ "a" و "an" و "the".

Now this can be very confusing, so please make sure you pay careful attention.

الآن قد يكون هذا محيرًا للغاية ، لذا يرجى التأكد من الانتباه بعناية.

We use articles in front of nouns.

نستخدم المقالات أمام الأسماء.

Okay, so remember that and let’s look at the board.

حسنًا ، تذكر ذلك ودعنا ننظر إلى السبورة.

First, we use ‘a’ or ‘an’ when we’re talking about any one thing.

أولاً ، نستخدم "a" أو "an" عندما نتحدث عن أي شيء واحد.

For example, let’s say I say, “A banana is delicious.”

على سبيل المثال ، لنفترض أنني أقول ، "الموزة لذيذة".

Okay, that means all bananas.

حسنًا ، هذا يعني كل أنواع الموز.

Any banana is delicious.

أي موزة لذيذة.

“A banana is delicious.”

"الموز لذيذ."

Okay, let’s jump over here.

If I’m talking about a specific banana…

إذا كنت أتحدث عن موزة معينة ...

maybe I have a banana in my hand.

فربما أمتلك موزة في يدي.

It’s specific, not any banana, this one.

I have to use ‘the’,

لا بد لي من استخدام "the" ،

“The banana is old.”

"الموز قديم."

Okay. This one.

تمام. هذا.

I can’t say, “A banana is old.”

لا أستطيع أن أقول ، "الموزة قديمة."

Then that means all bananas are old.

ثم هذا يعني أن كل الموز قديم.

And that’s not true. Just this one.

وهذا ليس صحيحا. هذه فقط.

So, I say, “The banana is old.”

لذلك أقول ، "الموز قديم."

Okay, let’s move over here.

We also use ‘a’ or ‘an’ when we’re talking about something for the first time.

نستخدم أيضًا "a" أو "an" عندما نتحدث عن شيء ما لأول مرة.

So, I have another example here.

إذن ، لدي مثال آخر هنا.

“I watched a movie.”

"شاهدت فيلم."

Okay.

I’m talking about this movie for the first time, so I have to use “…a movie”.

تمام.

أتحدث عن هذا الفيلم لأول مرة ، لذا لا بد لي من استخدام "... فيلم".

But, if I want to talk about this movie again,

لكن إذا أردت التحدث عن هذا الفيلم مرة أخرى ،

for the second time, or the third time or fourth, fifth…

للمرة الثانية ، أو للمرة الثالثة أو الرابعة ، أو الخامسة ...

it doesn’t matter.

لا يهم.

I have to use ‘the’.

لا بد لي من استخدام "ال".

“The movie was fun.”

"كان الفيلم ممتعًا."

I’m talking about this one. The specific.

أنا أتحدث عن هذا. المحدد.

“The movie was fun.”

"كان الفيلم ممتعًا."

I can’t say, “A movie was fun.”

لا أستطيع أن أقول ، "كان الفيلم ممتعًا."

That means all movies are fun.

هذا يعني أن كل الأفلام ممتعة.

That’s not true.

هذا ليس صحيحا.

“The movie was fun.”

"كان الفيلم ممتعًا."

Okay, and I also use ‘the’

حسنًا ، وأستخدم أيضًا "the"

when I’m talking about a noun where there’s only one and only.

عندما أتحدث عن اسم حيث يوجد واحد فقط.

Okay.

تمام.

For example, there’s only one sun.

على سبيل المثال ، هناك شمس واحدة فقط.

Okay, when I look at the sky, there’s only one sun.

حسنًا ، عندما أنظر إلى السماء ، هناك شمس واحدة فقط.

So, I say, “The sun.”

لذلك أقول ، "الشمس".

“The sun is hot.”

I cannot say, “A sun.”

لا أستطيع أن أقول ، "شمس".

That’s wrong.

When there’s one and only, we say, “The sun.”

Let’s look at some more examples.

لنلقِ نظرة على بعض الأمثلة الأخرى.

The first example says, “A lion is dangerous.”

المثال الأول يقول: "الأسد خطير".

I have to use ‘a’ because I’m talking about any one lion.

لا بد لي من استخدام حرف "أ" لأنني أتحدث عن أي أسد.

Any lion is dangerous.

أي أسد خطير.

All lions are dangerous.

كل الأسود خطرة.

So, I use ‘a’.

لذلك ، أنا أستخدم "أ".

The next sentence says, “It’s a dog.”

الجملة التالية تقول ، "إنه كلب."

I’m talking about this dog for the first time, so I use ‘a’.

أنا أتحدث عن هذا الكلب لأول مرة ، لذلك أستخدم حرف "أ".

Now, I’m talking about this dog for the second time.

الآن ، أنا أتحدث عن هذا الكلب للمرة الثانية.

So, I say, “The dog is cute.”

لذلك أقول ، "الكلب لطيف."

Okay.

Here’s a similar example.

هذا مثال مشابه.

“It’s an ant.”

"إنها نملة."

Well, I used ‘an’ because we have ‘ant’, which start with a vowel.

حسنًا ، لقد استخدمت "an" لأن لدينا "نملة" ، والتي تبدأ بحرف متحرك.

And I’m talking about this ant for the first time.

وأنا أتحدث عن هذه النملة لأول مرة.

“It’s an ant.”

"إنها نملة."

Now, I’m talking about this ant again.

الآن ، أنا أتحدث عن هذه النملة مرة أخرى.

“The ant is small.”

"النملة صغيرة."

“The ant…”, this one, “…is small.”

"النملة ..." ، هذه ، "... صغيرة."

Okay, and the last one.

حسنًا ، والأخيرة.

“It’s the moon.”

"إنه القمر."

I have to say, “the moon” because there’s only one moon.

يجب أن أقول ، "القمر" لأنه يوجد قمر واحد فقط.

I cannot say, “a moon”.

لا أستطيع أن أقول ، "قمر".

“It’s the moon.

"إنه القمر.

The moon…”, only one, “…is round.”

القمر ... "، واحد فقط ،" ... مستدير. "

Let’s look at some more examples.

لنلقِ نظرة على بعض الأمثلة الأخرى.

Okay, we have some more examples,

حسنًا ، لدينا المزيد من الأمثلة ،

but this time I want you to think about whether we should put ‘a’, ‘an’ or ‘the’.

So, “I see ____ desk and ___ chair.”

We don’t know which desk and chair.

And it’s the first time I’m talking about them.

So, we have to put ‘a’.

“I see a desk and a chair.”

The next one.

“I see ____ octopus.”

Okay, this is the same.

It’s the first time I’m talking about this octopus.

So, do I put ‘a’ or ‘an’?

Well here we have the vowel ‘o’.

So we have to put “‘an’ octopus”.

“I see an octopus.”

Okay, the next one.

حسنًا ، التالي.

“It’s ___ pen.”

Okay, it’s the same.

It’s the first time, so I say, “a pen”.

إنها المرة الأولى ، لذلك أقول "قلم".

Now, I’m talking about the pen for the second time.

الآن ، أتحدث عن القلم للمرة الثانية.

So I say, “The pen is red.”

لذلك أقول ، "القلم أحمر."

Okay, I’m talking about this one.

حسنًا ، أنا أتحدث عن هذا.

So I say, “the”.

لذلك أقول ، "ال".

Okay, similarly…

حسنًا ، بالمثل ...

“She is ____ girl.”

"إنها فتاة ____."

What do I say?

ماذا أقول؟

“a girl.”

"فتاة".

We’re talking about her for the first time.

نحن نتحدث عنها لأول مرة.

Okay.

And now we’re talking about this girl again, for the second time.

والآن نتحدث عن هذه الفتاة مرة أخرى ، للمرة الثانية.

So, I have to say, “The girl is pretty.”

لذا ، يجب أن أقول ، "الفتاة جميلة."

And the last example.

والمثال الأخير.

“I can see ___ sky.”

"أستطيع أن أرى ___ السماء."

Now, we only have one sky.

Right…

So, if there’s only one and only, we have to put the article ‘the’.

صحيح ...

“I can see the sky.”
