In this lesson, you can learn how to talk about your family in English.

في هذا الدرس.تستطيع ان تتعلم كيف ان تتحدث عن عائلتك بالانجليزيه

Do you have a big family?

هل لديك عائله كبيره؟

What do you like doing when you spend time with your family?

ماذا تحب ان تفعل عندما تقضي وقتا مع عائلتك؟

Talking about family can be a good way to start a conversation in English, so it’s

التحدث عن عائلتك قد يكون شيئا جيدا لتبدأ محادثه بالانجليزي فهو

useful if you know what to say and if you have some questions to ask.

مفيد اذا كنت تعلم ماذا تقول واذا كان لديك اسئله لتسألها

Let’s start with something simple.

لنبدأ بشيء بسيط

Part one: introducing your family.

الجزء الاول:التعريف بعائلتك

Let’s start with a simple sentence:

لنبدأ بجمله بسيطه:

"There are ________ people in my family."

يوجد-------افراد في عائلتي

So you can say:

اذا تستطيع ان تقول:

"There are five...

"يوجد خمس...

There are ten...

يوجد عشره...

There are thirty people in my family."

يوجد ثلاثين فرد في عائلتي"

That’s not too hard, but it’s not so interesting, either!

هذا ليس صعب ولكنه ليس مثير للاهتمام ايضا!

You should say who these people are.

يجب ان تقول من هؤلاء الاشخاص

"There are ten people in my family: I have two sisters, one brother, my uncle and aunt,

"يوجد عشره افراد في عائلتي:اختين واخ وخالي و خالتي

two grandparents and my parents of course."

وجدّين ووالدايّ بالطبع"

"There are four people in my family: my wife, my two sons and myself."

"يوجد اربع اشخاص في عائلتي :زوجتي وابناي وانا"

Part two: Talking about your brothers and sisters.

الجزء الثاني: التحدث عن اخوانك واخواتك

How many brothers and sisters do you have?

كم لديك اخوه واخوات؟

You could say:

يمكن ان تقول:

"I have two brothers and one sister."

"لدي اخوين واخت"

"I just have one sister."

"لدي اخت واحده فقط"

"I’m an only child."

"انا الطفل الوحيد"

Let’s make it more interesting by adding more information.

لنجعلها مشوقه اكثر باضافه المزيد من المعلومات

Are your brothers and sisters older or younger?

هل اخوانك واخواتك اكبر ام اصغر منك؟

Where are you in the family?

اين ترتيبك في العائله؟

"I have two older brothers and one older sister.

"لدي اخوين واخت اكبر مني

I’m the youngest in the family."

انا الاصغر في العائله"

"I just have one sister, who’s five years older than me."

"لدي فقط اخت واحده وهي اكبر مني بخمس سنوات"

"I’m the middle child: my brother is two years older, and I have a younger sister who’s

"انا الطفل الاوسط:اخي اكبر مني بسنتين ولدي اخت اصغر مني وهي

finishing university this year."

تنهي الجامعه هذه السنه"

Part three: talking about your immediate and your extended family.

الجزء الثالث: التحدث عائلتك المباشره والممتده

In English, we sometimes draw a line between your immediate family.

في الانجليزيه.بعض الاحيان نفرق بين العائله المباشره

That means: you, your husband/wife, your children, parents, and brothers and sisters.

ومعناها:انت وزوجك او زوجتك واطفالك ووالداك واخوتك واخواتك

Then, you have your extended family.

ولديك العائله الممتده

That means: aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, grandparents, grandchildren, and so

ومعناها : الخالات والاعمام وابناءالخال وابن الاخ وابنه الاخ والاجداد والاحفاد

on.

وهكذا

Now, you can give more details about the people in your family, like this:

والآن.تستطيع ان تعطي المزيد من التفاصيل عن افراد عائلتك .مثل:

"My immediate family is quite small, because I’m an only child.

"عائلتي المباشره صغيره جدا لاني انا الطفل الوحيد

My mum is one of five children, so I have a lot of cousins, who are kind of like my

لدى امي خمس اخوه لذلك لدي الكثير من ابناء الخال وهم نوعا ما مثل

brothers and sisters.

الاخوه والاخوات

There are six people in my immediate family: my parents, my brother and his wife, my sister

يوجد ست افراد في عائلتي المباشره:والداي واخي وزوجته واختي

and me.

وانا

I have a lot of other relatives, but they live in Canada so we don’t see them often."

لدي الكثير من الاقارب ولكنهم يعيشون في كندا لذلك لا نراهم عاده

Part four: talking about your children.

الجزء الرابع :التحدث عن اطفالك

Do you have children?

هل لديك اطفال؟

Let’s see what you can say:

لنرى ماذا يمكن ان تقول:

"I have three kids: two girls and a boy."

"لدي ثلاثه اطفال:بنتين وولد"

"We have a newborn son."

"لدينا ولد مولود جديد"

"We have one daughter, and my wife’s expecting our second child."

"لدينا ابنه واحده وزوجتي حامل بطفلنا الثاني"

As always, you should add details to make your answers longer and more interesting:

وكالعاده. ينبغي عليك ان تضيف المزيد من التفاصيل لتجعل اجاباتك اطول ومشوقه

"I have three kids: two girls and a boy.

"لدي ثلاثه اطفال:ابنتين وولد

Our eldest daughter has just started secondary school, and the two younger ones are still

البنت الكبرى بدأت مدرسه الثانويه والاثنين الاصغر لا يزالون

in primary school."

في الابتدائي"

"We have a newborn son.

"ولد مولود جديد

He’s just three weeks old now, so we’re still getting used to things!"

عمره الآن فقط ثلاث اسابيع ونحن لا نزال نتعود على بعض الاشياء"

"We have one daughter, and my wife’s expecting our second child.

"لدينا طفله وزوجتي حامل بطفلنا الثاني

We don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl, but we’ll find out in three months."

ولا نعلم اذا ولد او بنت ولكن سنعلم خلال ثلاث اشهر "

Part five: talking about your relationship with your family.

الجزء الخامس:التحدث عن علاقتك مع عائلتك

Finally, let’s add some information about how often you see your family, and what you

واخيرا.لنضف بعض المعلومات عن كم مره ترى عائلتك وماذا

like to do together.

تحب ان تفعل معهم

For example:

مثلا:

"I’m very close to my family.

"انا قريب جدا من عائلتي

We have lunch together every weekend."

نتغدى معا كل نهايه اسبوع"

"I see my older brother once a week; we play tennis or basketball together."

"اقابل اخي الاكبر مره كل اسبوع ونلعب تنس او كره سله كل اسبوع

"I try to spend as much time as possible with my kids."

"احاول ان اقضي اكثر مايمكن من الوقت مع اطفالي"

What now?

وماذا الآن؟

You should know the answer: add more details!

ينبغي ان تعلم الاجابه : اضف المزيد من التفاصيل

Let's look: "I’m very close to my family.

لنرى:"انا قريب جدا من عائلتي

We have lunch together every weekend at my grandmother’s house.

نتغدى معا كل نهايه اسبوع في منزل جدتي

She always cooks something delicious!"

دائما ما تطبخ شيئا لذيذ!"

"I see my older brother once a week; we play tennis or basketball together.

"اقابل اخي الاكبر كل اسبوع لنلعب التنس او كره السله معا

I don’t see my other brother so often, because he lives overseas, although we talk on Skype

لا ارى اخي الآخر كثيرا لانه يعيش عبر البحر ولكننا نتحدث عبر سكايب

every so often."

كثيرا"

"I try to spend as much time as possible with my kids.

"احاول ان اقضي اكثر ما يمكن من الوقت مع اطفالي

We play cards, watch films, or go to the park if the weather’s nice."

نلعب البطاقات او نشاهر افلام او نذهب للحديقه اذا كان الجو جميلا"

Part six: making a longer answer.

الجزء السادس :جعل الاجابات اطول

Now you should be able to make a longer answer talking about your family.

الآن ينبغي ان تكن قادرا على صنع جواب اطول في التحدث عن عائلتك

You should be able to talk about your relatives, your brothers and sisters, your children if

وان تكون قادرا على التحدث عن اقاربك و اخوتك واخواتك واطفالك

you have any, and your relationship with your family.

اذا كان لديك وعلاقتك مع عائلتك

Let’s look at a sample answer:

لنرى اجابه بسيطه

"There are five people in my immediate family, although my extended family is quite large.

"يوجد خمس افراد في عائلتي المباشره برغم عن ان عائلتي الممتده كبيره جدا

I have two sisters, both younger, so I’m the oldest child.

لدي اختين كلاهما اصغر مني اذا انا الاخ الاكبر

I don’t have kids yet but I’d like to have a big family one day.

ليس لدي اطفال بعد ولكن اود ان احظى بعائله كبيره يوما ما

I see my parents and my sisters quite often, because we all live near each other, although

اقابل والدايّ واختاي كثيرا لاني اعيش قريبا منهم

I don’t see my other relatives that much."

برغم عن انني لا ارى باقي الاقارب بهذه الكثره"

Could you make an answer like this?

هل تستطيع صنع جواب كهذا؟

Let’s look at one more sample answer first:

لنرالى جواب بسيط اولا:

"I come from a big family: I’m the fifth child, and I have three brothers and one sister.

"انا من عائله كبيره:انا الابن الخامس ولدي ثلاث اخوه واخت

They’re all close to each other in age, but there’s a big gap between them and me.

كلهم متقاربين في العمر ولكن يوك فجوه في العمر بيني وبينهم

I don’t have children, but I have lots of nieces and nephews!

ليس لدي اطفال ولكن لدي الكثير من بنات وابناء الاخ!

I don’t see my family often because I live in a different country, but I speak to them

لا ارى عائلتي كثيرا لانني اعيش في دوله اخرى ولكن اتحدث معهم بانتضام

regularly and we all get together once or twice a year, which is always very noisy but

ونجتمع معا مره او مرتين في السنه وهودائما مزعج ولكنه

lots of fun."
