Love idioms - English vocabulary (Part 1)

Welcome to our first class on love and relationships idioms!

مرحبًا بكم في أول فصل دراسي حول مصطلحات الحب والعلاقات!

Let's begin! Let's imagine you see someone, and instantly...

هيا نبدأ! دعنا نتخيل أنك ترى شخصًا ما ، وعلى الفور ...

Love happens!

الحب يحدث!

Instantly,

على الفور ،

love!

الحب!

We can say it's "love at first sight",

يمكننا أن نقول إنه "حب من النظرة الأولى" ،

so when you begin to feel love for someone for the first time,

لذلك عندما تبدأ في الشعور بالحب تجاه شخص ما لأول مرة ،

you "fall in love with them",

فإنك "تقع في حبه" ،

or "you fall for them".

أو "تقع في حبه".

So, in this case,

لذلك ، في هذه الحالة ،

He fell for her, or he fell in love with her.

Be careful, remember, "fall" is present,

Not "felt".

Many people in spelling write it "felt",

It's not, it's "fall"... "fer"... "fell"... F***

Then, they start talking :

- "Hi, you're really pretty"

جميلة "

- "You're really handsome"

-" أنتِ وسيم حقًا "

- "You look really good today"

-" تبدين رائعة حقًا اليوم "

- "Oh so do you hihihihihihihi"

-" حسنًا ، هل أنتِ hihihihihihi "

Then, something happens :

ثم حدث شيء ما:

You both decide "ok you're my boyfriend, ok you're my girlfriend",

قررا كلاكما" حسنًا ، أنت صديقي ، حسنًا أنت صديقتي "،

you "get together" or you "get with that person".

"تلتقي" أو "تلتقي مع ذلك الشخص".

So, in that case, we can say :

لذلك ، في هذه الحالة ، يمكننا أن نقول: لقد

They got together,

اجتمعوا ،

or, he/she got with him/her

أو ،

you can say it both ways.

يمكنك أن تقول ذلك في كلا الاتجاهين.

Your relationship begins.

تبدأ علاقتك.

So, when you're in a relationship,

maybe this will happen :

you might need to explain that actually, you're not single,

you have a boyfriend, you have a girlfriend,

For this, you would say :

Be careful with the word "date",

because in latin languages, it can mean a different thing,

So, he's asked the question

"Are you single?" or "Do you have a boyfriend?",

"Are you seeing anyone?"

She could say :

يمكنها أن تقول:

"Sorry, I'm seeing someone."

"I'm not single", "I'm in a relationship", "I'm involved with someone",

"أنا لست أعزب" ، "أنا في علاقة" ، "أنا مرتبط بشخص ما" ، "

"I'm seeing someone"

أنا أرى شخصًا ما"

or yes, "I'm dating someone".

أو نعم ، "أنا أواعد شخصًا ما".

Then, unfortunately,

ثم ، لسوء الحظ ،

one day, maybe this will happen :

يومًا ما ، ربما سيحدث هذا:

Terrible! So, if one of the people in the relationship

فظيع! لذلك ، إذا قبل أحد الأشخاص في العلاقة

kisses someone else or does something with someone else,

شخصًا آخر أو فعل شيئًا مع شخص آخر ،

we'd say they cheated.

فسنقول إنه خدع.

Or, we could say they cheated on the other person

So in this case, it would be :

"He cheated on her

with her",

the other woman, or other guy, whatever the situation is.

I've seen students doing this for this,

English people, we don't use that,

أيها الإنجليز ، لا نستخدم ذلك ،

for us, it just means a boar or horns,

بالنسبة لنا ، إنه يعني فقط خنزير أو قرون ،

but it has no connection to this situation.

لكن لا علاقة له بهذا الموقف.

So if you do this to English person,

لذا ، إذا فعلت هذا بشخص إنجليزي ،

we don't know what that means.

So, if this happens in a relationship, what could happen next?

لذا ، إذا حدث هذا في علاقة ، فماذا يمكن أن يحدث بعد ذلك؟

Of course, if someone cheats on the other person,

بالطبع ، إذا قام شخص ما بخداع الشخص الآخر ،

probably they're going to break up.

To break up means to end the relationship, to finish with that person.

الانفصال يعني إنهاء العلاقة والانتهاء من ذلك الشخص.

We could say, "she.." what's the past of "break"?

يمكننا أن نقول "هي .." ما هو الماضي من "كسر"؟

"Broke".

"حطم".

Or we can say "split", in the past,

أو يمكننا أن نقول "انقسام" ، في الماضي ،

it's irregular, "split" again.

إنه غير منتظم ، "مقسم" مرة أخرى.

We can say "she broke up/she split up with him"

يمكننا أن نقول "لقد انفصلت / انفصلت عنه"

If you want to break up with someone,

إذا كنت تريد الانفصال عن شخص ما ،

you can, you could say this,

يمكنك أن تقول هذا ،

"I'm breaking up with you",

"أنا انفصل عنك" ،

"I want to break up".

"أريد الانفصال".

Let's do a bonus idiom!

لنقم بصيغة المكافأة!

So, it's a sad story!

إذن ، إنها قصة حزينة!

First, they fell in love, they fell for eachother,

أولاً ، وقعوا في الحب ، ووقعوا لبعضهم البعض ،

then, they got together, they were a lovely couple,

ثم التقوا معًا ، وكانوا زوجين رائعين ،

then, he cheated on her,

ثم قام بخداعها ،

then, she broke up with him, they broke up,

but what usually happens in this situation?

6 months later, maybe...

بعد 6 أشهر ، ربما ...

They're not broken up anymore,

لم ينفصلوا بعد الآن ، لقد

they're together again,

أصبحوا معًا مرة أخرى ،

how do we say "to start a relationship"?

كيف نقول "لبدء علاقة"؟

Here, we can say "they got together",

هنا ، يمكننا أن نقول "لقد اجتمعوا" ،

but we want to say "again", a repeat of something.

لكننا نريد أن نقول "مرة أخرى" ، تكرار لشيء ما.

Which preposition means "again" or "a repeat of something"?

أي حرف جر يعني "مرة أخرى" أو "تكرار شيء ما"؟

Of course : "back". "They got back together"

بالطبع: "رجوع". "لقد عادوا معًا"

So, this would mean

لذلك ، هذا يعني

they started a relationship again.

أنهم بدأوا علاقة مرة أخرى.
