Obviously, this scenario could easily lean towards the scary.

This is why there needs to be regulation in place.

All users, all consumers, should always remain in full control of data they share

모든 사용자와 소비자는 언제든지 완벽하게 통제할 수 있어야 합니다.

and on which type of recommendations they agree to get or not to get.

Now, recommendation engines powered by artificial intelligence are not new.

인공지능을 이용한 추천 엔진은 더 이상 새로운 것이 아닙니다.

Far from it.

전혀 새롭지 않죠.

We actually use them multiple times a day already.

이미 우리는 하루에도 몇 번이나 그것들을 사용하니까요.

On average, 70 percent of the time spent on YouTube

평균적으로 유튜브에서 보내는 시간의 70%는

is on videos recommended by their algorithm.

And you may also own a wristband that you use to track your sleep

or monitor your workout.

And there's the first generation of voice-enabled virtual assistants.

You know, like Google Home or Amazon Alexa

that you can use to change the temperature of your room.

that can help you manage your music

or give you directions, hands-free.

But there is one thing that all these tools have in common.

하지만 이러한 도구들이 가진 한 가지의 공통점이 있는데요.

They leverage AI to help you in one specific area of your life.

이것들은 우리 삶의 특정한 한 부분을 돕기 위해 AI를 활용했다는 겁니다.

Your home, your car, your health.

여러분의 가정과 자동차 그리고 건강까지

They stay in the lane.

경계를 막론하고 말이죠.

Now imagine a new generation of voice assistants

이제 신세대 음성 비서를 떠올려 보면

that crosses all lanes,

전 분야를 넘나들며

that synchronizes everything.

모든 것을 동기화합니다.

So you may ask, why hasn't this happened already?

‘왜 아직도 그렇게 안 될까?’라는 의문이 들 수 있을 텐데요.

Because there are two technological bricks that are critical to make this happen

이러한 일을 실현하는데 중요한 두 가지 기술적 요소가

that are still missing.

불충분해서입니다.

One is voice.

첫 번째는 음성인데요.

These tools must be able to understand everything we say.

음성 비서는 우리가 말하는 모든 것을 이해할 수 있어야 하는데

And clearly, this is not the case today.

아직은 역부족입니다.

For my kids, maybe yours as well,

Siri is still an endless source of fun.

They like asking very simple questions

and still get very confused answers.

Two, breadth.

They must be able to provide a large range of recommendations

to cover whatever we may need.

So tech players are still working on cracking those two elements,

On voice, as I said, Alexa, Google Home, Siri and the likes,

It's already very difficult for Americans

so can you imagine how difficult it can be for a robot?

So tech players are working hard on this.

그래서 엔지니어들이 이에 대해 열심히 연구하고 있습니다.

In 2018, Google launched an investment program

2018년 구글은 한 투자 프로그램을 출시했는데요.

for start-ups that would work with their Google Home suites.

스타트업 기업들이 구글의 홈 스위트와 함께 일하는 거였습니다.

And since then, they have invested in over 15 companies.

이후로 구글은 15개가 넘는 기업에 투자했죠.

Amazon has 10,000 employees

아마존에서 근무하는 1만 명의 직원이

working on Alexa voice technologies.

알렉사의 음성 기술을 위해 일하고 있는데

So they will eventually crack the voice issues.

The smart assistants will be able to understand what we say,

the meaning of the words in their context.

For example, if I’m using my smart assistant, and I’m listening to music,

You know, when we start saying something

and then we change our mind mid-sentence.

But that doesn't stop here.

With far-field speech recognition,

Tremendous progress has been made on this recently,

최근 이 분야에 엄청난 발전이 이뤄지고 있는데요.

largely due to Amazon's efforts on their Echo speaker technology.

Not only that.

그것뿐만이 아닙니다.

It will be able to understand in which mood you’re in --

앞으로 당신이 어떤 기분인지도 파악하게 될 수 있습니다.

joy, sadness, annoyance --

and will be able to mimic these feelings too.

이러한 감정들을 모방하게 될 수도 있습니다.

And as natural language processing advances further --

또한 자연어처리가 더욱 발전함에 따라서

so natural language processing is the technology behind this --

so as it advances further,

the voice-enabled interactions will increasingly be refined.

Now, the second challenge and the biggest, in my opinion,

revolves around the breadth of recommendations provided.

Will they be able to --

What will be their range of actions?

Will they remain limited to very specific tasks,

to which you can ask whatever you want,

whatever you need?

For example, taking notes in a meeting

or reordering milk

or even mental health coaching.

혹은 정신 건강 코치까지도요.

Will they be able to provide you recommendations

상품 카테고리의 전반을 아우르는 범위로 추천을 할 수 있게 될까요?

across product categories?

Today,

오늘날

companies provide us recommendations within one specific category,

기업들은 한 가지 특정 범주 안에서만 우리에게 추천을 제공합니다.

for example, that can help us choose between two dresses,

예를 들어, 두 가지의 드레스 중 고를 수 있게 도와주거나

between two books.

2권의 책 중에서 선택하도록 합니다.

In the future, the smart assistants will actually be able to help us choose

미래에는 스마트 비서가 우리가 옷과 책 중 어떤 것을 살지

between buying a book or buying a dress.

결정하는 데 도움을 줄 것입니다.

So to be able to deliver this integrated and large range of recommendations,

tech teams behind smart assistants will need to design the right algorithms.

And these algorithms will need to be powerful enough

to process a myriad of data points.

But, a world where smart assistants become unavoidable

means new priorities for all companies,

not only the smart assistant players.

스마트 비서 업체들 외에도 그렇습니다.

Every business in the future will need to accelerate drastically

미래의 모든 기업은 이것을 급격하게 가속해야 할 것입니다.

on data and algorithm,

음성 인식 상호작용에서 그리고 데이터와 알고리즘에서 말이죠.

on voice-enabled interactions.

And also, they will need to be entrusted by consumers

또한 기업들은 소비자들이 추천 받는 일을

to provide recommendations.

위임할 수 있도록 해야 합니다.

This is what I like to summarize in three words,

저는 이것을 세 가지 단어로 요약하고 싶은데요.

in the three imperatives that are data, tech and trust.

데이터와 기술 그리고 신뢰의 3원칙이라고 말이죠.

So the moment the breadth challenge

범위의 과제와 음성의 과제가 해결되는 순간이 오면

and the voice challenge get solved

will be a tipping point

급물살을 탈 것입니다.

in smart assistant usage and adoption by consumers.

소비자의 스마트 비서의 사용과 적용에 있어서 말이죠.

Today, can you live without your smartphone?

오늘날 여러분은 스마트폰 없이 살 수 있으신가요?

I assume not, right?

못 할 거예요, 맞죠?

In a few years from now,

지금으로부터 몇 년 후에는 여러분의 스마트 비서가 더 편리해지고

your smart assistant will be a convenient,

powerful, reliable helper

강력해져서 의지할 수 있는 비서로

essential in your day-to-day life.

여러분 삶의 필수 요소가 되면서

So you won't be able to live without it.

그것 없이는 살 수 없게 되겠죠.

And unlike your smartphones,

그리고 스마트폰과는 다르게

it will be embedded in every device around you.

여러분 주변 모든 기계에 내장될 겁니다.

Your smartphone itself, of course,

여러분의 스마트 폰은 말할 것도 없고

but also your car, the mirrors,

자동차뿐 아니라 거울 그리고

your fridge, your glasses

냉장고와 안경에도 내장될 거예요.

and who knows what other device in the future.

그리고 또 미래에 어떤 기계가 생길지 누가 알겠어요.
