Welcome to this English course.

ဤအင်္ဂလိပ်စာသင်တန်းမှကြိုဆိုပါသည်။

In today's video, I'm going to tell you about nouns.

ဒီနေ့ video မှာ နာမ်တွေအကြောင်း ပြောပြမယ်။

Because in English, nouns are very important.

ဘာကြောင့်လဲ ဆိုတော့ အင်္ဂလိပ်လို နာမ်တွေက အရမ်းအရေးကြီးတယ်။

They are the basic element of a sentence.

၎င်းတို့သည် ဝါကျတစ်ခု၏ အခြေခံဒြပ်စင်ဖြစ်သည်။

So if you want to speak English, you need to know about the different kinds

ဒါကြောင့် အင်္ဂလိပ်လို ပြောချင်ရင် မတူညီတဲ့

of nouns.

နာမ်တွေကို သိထားဖို့ လိုပါတယ်။

And I'm going to try and teach you as well as I can.

ပြီးတော့ တတ်နိုင်သလောက် ကြိုးစားပြီး သင်ပေးမယ်။

Let's get started!

စလိုက်ကြစို့!

Ok, so let's start with concrete nouns.

ကောင်းပြီ ဒါဆို ခိုင်မာတဲ့ နာမ်တွေနဲ့ စလိုက်ရအောင်။

Now in English, concrete nouns are people places or things,

ယခု အင်္ဂလိပ်ဘာသာတွင် တိကျသောနာမ်များသည်

including animals.

တိရစ္ဆာန်များအပါအဝင် လူနေရာများ သို့မဟုတ် အရာများဖြစ်သည်။

That you can see, that you can smell, or taste, or hear, or touch.

သင်မြင်နိုင်သည်၊ အနံ့ခံနိုင်သည်၊ မြည်းစမ်းနိုင်သည်၊ သို့မဟုတ် ကြားနိုင်သည်၊ သို့မဟုတ် ထိလိုက်နိုင်သည်။

So you can basically use your five senses.

ဒါကြောင့် အခြေခံအားဖြင့် အာရုံငါးပါးကို အသုံးချနိုင်ပါတယ်။

Let me give you a few examples.

ဥပမာအနည်းငယ်ပေးပါရစေ။

If we talk about people, you could say, a man

လူတွေအကြောင်းပြောရင် ယောက်ျား

or a teacher, or me, Fanny.

ဖြစ်ဖြစ်၊ ဆရာ၊ ဒါမှမဟုတ် Fanny လို့ ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။

Or Mr. Smith.

ဒါမှမဟုတ် မစ္စတာစမစ်။

If we talk about places, you could say,

နေရာတွေအကြောင်းပြောရင်

a house, a school.

အိမ်၊ ကျောင်းလို့ ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။

You could name a city like London.

လန်ဒန်လိုမြို့လို့ နာမည်ပေးလို့ရပါတယ်။

Very nice city.

အရမ်းကောင်းတဲ့မြို့။

Or a beach.

ဒါမှမဟုတ် ကမ်းခြေတစ်ခုလား။

And if you talk about things, you could say a shoe,

မင်းအကြောင်းတွေပြောရင် ဖိနပ်လို့ ပြောလို့ရတယ်၊

you could say a marker, you could talk about a dog

အမှတ်အသားလို့ ပြောလို့ရတယ်၊ ခွေးအကြောင်း

or food like a pizza.

ဒါမှမဟုတ် ပီဇာလို အစားအသောက်

These are concrete nouns....ok.

အကြောင်း ပြောနိုင်တယ် ။ ဒါတွေက ခိုင်မာတဲ့ နာမ်တွေပါပဲ....။

Now let's move on to abstract nouns.

ကဲ abstract noun တွေဆီ ဆက်သွားရအောင်။

So abstract nouns, unlike concrete nouns, are ideas, concepts, emotions.

ထို့ကြောင့် ခိုင်မာသောနာမ်များနှင့်မတူဘဲ abstract noun များသည် စိတ်ကူးများ၊ သဘောတရားများ၊

And you can't see an idea.

ပြီးတော့ စိတ်ကူးတစ်ခု မမြင်ရဘူး။

You can't smell a concept.

အယူအဆတစ်ခုကို အနံ့ခံလို့ မရဘူး။

You can't taste an emotion.

စိတ်ခံစားမှုကို မြည်းစမ်းလို့ မရဘူး။

Or hear it.

ဒါမှမဟုတ် ကြားလား။

Or touch it.

သို့မဟုတ် ထိပါ။

So they are nouns.

ဒီတော့ သူတို့က နာမ်တွေပဲ။

They are things that exist, but you cannot see them, or taste them.

၎င်းတို့သည် တည်ရှိနေသောအရာများဖြစ်သည်၊ သို့သော် ၎င်းတို့ကို သင်မမြင်နိုင်၊ သို့မဟုတ် မြည်းစမ်းနိုင်မည်မဟုတ်ပေ။

You can't use your five sense.

မင်းရဲ့ အာရုံငါးပါးကို မင်းသုံးလို့မရဘူး။

To give you a few examples, we could talk about love,

သင့်အား ဥပမာအနည်းငယ်ပေးရန်အတွက်၊ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် အချစ်၊

or time, or religion,

သို့မဟုတ် အချိန်၊ သို့မဟုတ် ဘာသာရေး၊

rules.

စည်းမျဉ်းများအကြောင်း ဆွေးနွေးနိုင်သည်။

These are all words that represent ideas, concepts...

ဒါတွေက စိတ်ကူးတွေ၊ သဘောတရားတွေကို ကိုယ်စားပြုတဲ့ စကားလုံးတွေပဲ... ဟုတ်ပြီ

okay They're abstract nouns in English.

သူတို့က အင်္ဂလိပ်လို abstract noun တွေပါ။

Now, let's get into more detail about nouns.

အခု နာမ်တွေအကြောင်း အသေးစိတ်လေ့လာကြည့်ရအောင်။

Let's now see the difference between common nouns

အင်္ဂလိပ်လို အလွန်အရေးကြီးတဲ့

and proper nouns which are very important in English.

common noun နဲ့ proper noun တို့ရဲ့ ခြားနားချက်ကို ကြည့်ကြရအောင်

So common nouns and proper nouns refer to people, places, things, ideas.

။ ထို့ကြောင့် ဘုံနာမ်များနှင့် သင့်လျော်သောနာမ်များသည် လူ၊ နေရာ၊ အရာ၊ စိတ်ကူးများကို ရည်ညွှန်းသည်။

Let's see a few examples.

ဥပမာအနည်းငယ်ကိုကြည့်ကြပါစို့။

We could talk about people for example.

ဥပမာ လူတွေအကြောင်းပြောလို့ရတယ်။

A woman.

မိန်းမတစ်ယောက်။

That's a common noun.

အဲဒါ ဘုံနာမ်။

But if we talk about a specific woman, for example, me, Fanny.

ဒါပေမယ့် သတ်သတ်မှတ်မှတ် မိန်းမတစ်ယောက်အကြောင်းပြောရင် ဥပမာ ငါ Fanny။

That becomes a proper noun with a capital 'F'.

၎င်းသည် 'F' ဖြင့် သင့်လျော်သော နာမ်ဖြစ်လာသည်။

because, and you should know this, proper nouns are always capitalized.

အဘယ်ကြောင့်ဆိုသော် ဤအရာကို သင်သိထားသင့်သည်၊ သင့်လျော်သောနာမ်များကို အမြဲတမ်း စာလုံးကြီးဖြင့် ရေးထားသည်။

You could talk about places.

နေရာတွေအကြောင်း ပြောလို့ရတယ်။

A city.

မြို့တစ်မြို့။

That's a common noun.

အဲဒါ ဘုံနာမ်။

But then you can name a specific city.

ဒါပေမယ့် မင်းသတ်မှတ်ထားတဲ့မြို့ကို နာမည်ပေးလို့ရတယ်။

Let's take a great city, London, of course.

လန်ဒန်မြို့ကြီးကို သွားကြည့်ရအောင်။

With a capital 'L'.

မြို့တော် 'L' ဖြင့်

Remember proper nouns - always capitalized.

သင့်လျော်သော နာမ်များကို အမြဲတမ်း စာလုံးကြီးဖြင့် မှတ်သားထားပါ။

We can talk about things for example.

ဥပမာအနေနဲ့ ပြောလို့ရတယ်။

An animal.

တိရစ္ဆာန်။

Let's take a dog.

ခွေးယူကြရအောင်။

A dog.

ခွေးတစ်ကောင်။

That's a common noun.

အဲဒါ ဘုံနာမ်။

But if we take a specific dog, like Snoopy - capital 'S',

Snoopy - အရင်းအနှီး 'S' ကဲ့သို့သော သီးခြားခွေးတစ်ကောင်ကို ယူလျှင်

that's the proper noun.

ယင်းသည် သင့်လျော်သော နာမ်ဖြစ်သည်။

If we talk about things again, but for example, a car,

အကြောင်းပြန်ပြောရင် ဥပမာကား၊

that's a common noun.

အဲဒါက ဘုံနာမ်ပဲ။

But if we name the brand, the specific brand of the car like Volvo,

ကားအမှတ်တံဆိပ်ကို Volvo ကဲ့သို့ နာမည်ပေးမည်ဆိုလျှင်

that's a proper noun.

သင့်လျော်သော နာမ်ဖြစ်သည်။

And it takes a capital 'V'.

ပြီးတော့ မြို့တော် 'V' ကို ယူတယ်။

And finally, and we can say, a team - common noun.

နောက်ဆုံးအနေနဲ့ ပြောရရင် team - common noun ပါ။

But if we name a specific team, for example, the best football team, Manchester United,

ဒါပေမယ့် ဥပမာအားဖြင့်၊ အကောင်းဆုံးဘောလုံးအသင်းဖြစ်တဲ့ မန်ချက်စတာယူနိုက်တက်ကို တိကျတဲ့အသင်းလို့ နာမည်ပေးမယ်ဆိုရင်

then that's a proper noun and it's capitalized.

အဲဒါက သင့်လျော်တဲ့ နာမ်ဖြစ်ပြီး အဲဒါကို စာလုံးကြီးနဲ့ ရေးတာပါ။

Now mind you, 'team', is a special word because it's called

'အဖွဲ့' သည် လူတစ်စုကို ရည်ညွှန်းသောကြောင့် အင်္ဂလိပ်လို စုပေါင်းနာမ်ဟု

a collective noun in English because it refers to a group of people.

ခေါ်သောကြောင့် အထူးစကားလုံးကို သတိရပါ ။

So collective nouns can be used as singular nouns or plural nouns.

ထို့ကြောင့် စုပေါင်းနာမ်များကို အနည်းကိန်းနာမ်များ သို့မဟုတ် အများကိန်းနာမ်များအဖြစ် သုံးနိုင်သည်။

But we will talk about this again later.

ဒါပေမယ့် ဒီအကြောင်းကို နောက်မှ ထပ်ပြောပါမယ်။

So now that we know a lot about nouns in English, Let's practice finding nouns in a sentence.

ဒါကြောင့် အင်္ဂလိပ်လို နာမ်တွေအကြောင်း အများကြီးသိလာရပြီဆိုရင် ဝါကျတစ်ခုမှာ နာမ်တွေကို ရှာဖွေလေ့ကျင့်လိုက်ရအောင်။

Okay, first, In my class at Oxford University, I have many

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ပထမ၊ အောက်စဖို့ဒ်တက္ကသိုလ်က ငါ့အတန်းမှာ သူငယ်ချင်းတွေ

friends.

အများကြီးရှိတယ် ။

My best friend is Jan.

ကျွန်မရဲ့ အချစ်ဆုံးသူငယ်ချင်းက ဇန်န၀ါရီပါ

I have a lot of love for her.

။

Jan has a cute dog.

Jan မှာ ချစ်ဖို့ကောင်းတဲ့ ခွေးလေးတစ်ကောင်ရှိတယ်။

Its name is Juju.

သူ့နာမည်က Juju ပါ။

What are the nouns in these sentences?

ဒီဝါကျတွေမှာ နာမ်တွေက ဘာတွေလဲ။

If we take the first sentence, In my class at Oxford University, I have many

ပထမဝါကျကို ယူရရင် အောက်စဖို့ဒ်တက္ကသိုလ်မှာ ငါ့အတန်းထဲမှာ

friends.

သူငယ်ချင်းတွေအများကြီးရှိတယ်။

We have, class, and friends.

ငါတို့မှာ၊ အတန်းထဲမှာ သူငယ်ချင်းရှိတယ်။

These are common nouns.

ဒါတွေက ဘုံနာမ်တွေပါ။

We also have a proper noun, Oxford University.

ကျွန်ုပ်တို့တွင် သင့်လျော်သောနာမ်၊ အောက်စဖို့ဒ်တက္ကသိုလ်လည်းရှိသည်။

We know it's a proper noun because it's capitalized.

စာလုံးကြီးဖြင့် ရေးထားသောကြောင့် သင့်လျော်သော နာမ်တစ်ခုဖြစ်ကြောင်း ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ သိပါသည်။

The second sentence is, My best friend is Jen.

ဒုတိယဝါကျကတော့ My best friend is Jen.

Now in this sentence, the noun is, friend - common noun.

ယခု ဤဝါကျတွင် နာမ်သည် သူငယ်ချင်း-ဘုံနာမ်ဖြစ်သည်။

And there's also the word, Jen, is also a noun but a proper noun.

Jen ဟူသော စကားလုံးသည်လည်း နာမ်မဟုတ်သော်လည်း သင့်လျော်သော နာမ်လည်း ရှိသေးသည်။

As you can see it's capitalized.

မြင်တဲ့အတိုင်းပဲ အဲဒါကို အကြီးကြီးလုပ်ထားတယ်။

Then, I have a lot of love for her.

အဲဒီအခါကျရင် သူ့အပေါ် အများကြီးချစ်တယ်။

What noun can you see?

ဘယ်နာမ်ကို မြင်နိုင်သလဲ။

Of course, 'love'.

ဟုတ်ပါတယ် 'အချစ်'။

Remember the abstract noun we talked about a few minutes ago.

လွန်ခဲ့သော မိနစ်အနည်းငယ်က ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ပြောခဲ့သော စိတ္တဇနာမ်ကို သတိရပါ။

And finally, Jan has a cute dog.

နောက်ဆုံးတော့ Jan မှာ ချစ်စရာခွေးလေးတစ်ကောင်ရှိတယ်။

Its name is Juju.

သူ့နာမည်က Juju ပါ။

What nouns can we find?

ဘယ်နာမ်တွေကို ရှာတွေ့နိုင်မလဲ။

We can see, 'Jen', again - proper noun.

'Jen' ကို ထပ်တွေ့နိုင်သည် - သင့်လျော်သောနာမ်။

'Dog' - common noun.

'ခွေး' - ဘုံနာမ်။

But also, 'name', and 'Juju'.

ဒါပေမယ့်လည်း 'နာမည်' နဲ့ 'Juju' တို့လည်းပါပါတယ်။

'Name's' a common noun.

'အမည်' သည် အများအားဖြင့် နာမ်ဖြစ်သည်။

'Juju' is the proper noun.

'Juju' သည် သင့်လျော်သောနာမ်ဖြစ်သည်။

It's capitalized.

အဲဒါကို အရင်းပြုထားတယ်။

As you probably know, I haven't mentioned, 'I', or 'her', or 'its'.

မင်းသိတဲ့အတိုင်းပဲ ငါ 'ငါ' ဒါမှမဟုတ် 'သူမ' ဒါမှမဟုတ် 'သူ့' လို့ မပြောဖူးဘူး။

They are also nouns, but they are pronouns and

၎င်းတို့သည် နာမ်များဖြစ်သည်၊ သို့သော် ၎င်းတို့သည် နာမ်စားများဖြစ်ပြီး

they're considered a different category in English.

၎င်းတို့ကို အင်္ဂလိပ်ဘာသာတွင် မတူညီသော အမျိုးအစားအဖြစ် သတ်မှတ်သည်။

In today’s video, we’re going to talk about singular and plural nouns.

When you speak English, it’s very important to know the difference between a singular

အင်္ဂလိပ်လိုပြောသောအခါတွင် အနည်းကိန်း နာမ်နှင့် အများကိန်းနာမ်

noun and a plural noun.

အကြား ခြားနားချက်ကို သိရန် အလွန်အရေးကြီးပါသည်

So I will explain to you the different rules.

ဒါကြောင့် မတူညီတဲ့ စည်းကမ်းတွေကို ရှင်းပြမယ်။

And we will practice together.

Let’s get started.

စလိုက်ကြစို့။

Ok guys, the first you need to know is that a singular noun means one.

ဟေ့ကောင်တွေ မင်းအရင်သိထားရမှာက singular noun က one လို့ အဓိပ္ပါယ်ရတယ်။

So, for example, I can say, ‘cat’. ‘a cat’

ဒီတော့ ဥပမာ 'ကြောင်' လို့ ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။

'ကြောင်' 'ကြောင်တစ်ကောင်'

‘one cat’ ‘school’

'ကျောင်း' 'ကျောင်း'

‘a school’ ‘one school’

'ကျောင်းတစ်ကျောင်း' 'အဖွဲ့

‘team’ Now don’t forget, ‘team’ is a collective

' 'အဖွဲ့' ဟူသည်မှာ စုပေါင်းနာမ်ဖြစ်သည်။

noun.

၎င်းသည် လူတစ်စုဖြစ်သော်လည်း၊ ၎င်းသည် အနည်းကိန်းနာမ်ဖြစ်သည်။

It’s a group of people, but still, it’s a singular noun.

We talk about ‘a team’, or ‘one team.

'အသင်းတစ်သင်း' သို့မဟုတ် 'တစ်သင်းတည်း' အကြောင်း ပြောကြသည်။

‘lady’ ‘monkey’

'မိန်းမ' 'မျောက်'

‘tomato’ ‘a tomato’

'ခရမ်းချဉ်သီး' 'ခရမ်းချဉ်သီး'

‘one tomato’ Or ‘piano’.

'ခရမ်းချဉ်သီးတစ်လုံး' သို့မဟုတ် 'ပီယာနို'။

Now, if we talk about plural nouns, it means more than one.

ယခု ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် အများကိန်းနာမ်များအကြောင်းပြောလျှင် တစ်ခုထက်ပို၍ အဓိပ္ပါယ်ရှိသည်။

So for example, two, three, four, or many.

ဥပမာ၊ နှစ်၊ သုံး၊ လေး၊ ဒါမှမဟုတ် အများကြီး။

If we take our words again, ‘a cat’ becomes ‘cats’.

ငါတို့စကားပြန်ပြောရင် 'ကြောင်' 'ကြောင်' ဖြစ်သွားမယ်။

‘two cats’ ‘three cats’

'ကြောင်နှစ်ကောင်' 'ကြောင်သုံးကောင်'

‘many cats’ ‘school’’ becomes ‘schools’.

'ကြောင်များ' 'ကျောင်း' 'ကျောင်း' ဖြစ်လာသည်။

‘team’ becomes ‘teams’.

'အသင်း' သည် 'အသင်းများ' ဖြစ်လာသည်။

Ok, so you just add an ‘s’.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ သင်သည် 's' ကို ထည့်လိုက်ရုံပင်။

Now ‘lady’ becomes ‘ladies.

အခု 'မိန်းမ' က 'မိန်းမ' ဖြစ်သွားတယ်။

‘monkey’ becomes ‘monkeys’.

'မျောက်' သည် 'မျောက်' ဖြစ်လာသည်။

But, two different rules.

ဒါပေမယ့် မတူညီတဲ့ စည်းမျဉ်းနှစ်ခု။

As you can see, ‘lady’ is consonant + ‘y’.

မြင်တဲ့အတိုင်း 'lady' ဟာ ဗျည်း + 'y' ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

Now when you have consonant + ‘y’, in an English word, the plural will be ‘ies’.

အခု မင်းမှာ ဗျည်း + 'y' ဆိုရင် အင်္ဂလိပ်စကားမှာ အများကိန်း 'ies' ဖြစ်လိမ့်မယ်။

‘lady’ ‘ladies’

'lady' 'ladies'

But when you have vowel + ‘y’ like ‘monkey’, it just becomes ‘monkeys’.

ဒါပေမယ့် မင်းမှာ သရ + 'y' နဲ့ 'မျောက်' လို 'မျောက်' ဖြစ်သွားတယ်။

You simply add an ‘s’.

ရိုးရှင်းစွာ 's' ထည့်ပါ။

Ok, ‘monkey’ becomes ‘monkeys’. ‘tomato’ becomes ‘tomatoes’.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ 'မျောက်' သည် 'မျောက်' ဖြစ်သွားသည်။

'ခရမ်းချဉ်သီး' သည် 'ခရမ်းချဉ်သီး' ဖြစ်လာသည်။

‘piano’ ‘pianos’ Again, two different rules.

'စန္ဒယား' 'စန္ဒယား' တနည်းကား သိက္ခာပုဒ် နှစ်မျိုး။

Now ‘tomato’ becomes ‘tomatoes’.

အခု 'ခရမ်းချဉ်သီး' က 'ခရမ်းချဉ်သီး' ဖြစ်သွားပြီ။

You add ‘es’.

မင်း 'es' ထည့်လိုက်။

And with most words ending in ‘o’, so consonant + ‘o’, you will add ‘es’.

ပြီးတော့ 'o' နဲ့အဆုံးသတ်တဲ့ စကားလုံးအများစုနဲ့ဆိုတော့ ဗျည်း + 'o' နဲ့ 'es' ကို ထည့်မယ်။

But sometimes, you will only add ‘s’.

သို့သော် တစ်ခါတစ်ရံတွင် သင်သည် 's' ကိုသာ ထည့်လိမ့်မည်။

Like ‘piano’, ‘pianos’.

'စန္ဒယား' 'စန္ဒယား' ကဲ့သို့ပင်။

So, when it comes to pronunciation, we have three different sounds.

The first sound is /s/.

For example, ‘roof’ becomes ‘roofs’. ‘safe’ ‘safes’

ဥပမာ 'ခေါင်မိုး' 'မိုး' ဖြစ်သွားသည်။

'safe' 'safes' ဒါကြောင့် သင် ရိုးရိုး 's' ကို ထည့်လိုက်ပါ။

So you simply add an ‘s’.

Then we have ‘leaf’ that becomes ‘leaves’.

Wait a minute.

What happened?

ဘာဖြစ်တာလဲ?

Well, ya, sometimes in English, a word ending in ‘f’ becomes a word ending in ‘ves’

အင်း၊ တစ်ခါတစ်လေ အင်္ဂလိပ်လို 'f' နဲ့အဆုံးသတ်တဲ့ စကားလုံးဟာ

in plural.

အများကိန်းနဲ့ 'ves' နဲ့အဆုံးသတ်တဲ့ စကားလုံးဖြစ်လာပါတယ်။

That’s not a rule.

အဲဒါ စည်းကမ်းမဟုတ်ဘူး။

But some words end in ‘ves’, you just have to learn them I’m afraid.

ဒါပေမယ့် တချို့စကားလုံးတွေက 'ves' နဲ့အဆုံးသတ်ထားလို့ သင်ယူရမှာ ကြောက်တယ်။

Another word, ‘wife’.

နောက်တစ်ခုက 'မယား'။

And again, ‘ves’. ‘wives’

နောက်တဖန် 'ves' ။

'မယား' 'စင်' 'စင်ပေါ်'

‘shelf’ ‘shelves’ Again, this ‘ves’ ending.

တဖန် ဤ 'ves' ဇာတ်သိမ်း။

Now let’s focus on pronunciation.

အခု အသံထွက်ကို အာရုံစိုက်ကြည့်ရအောင်။

‘roofs’ So it’s an /s/ sound.

'ခေါင်မိုး' ဆိုတော့ ဒါက /s/ အသံပါ။

‘roofs’ ‘roofs’

of this singular noun.

The first word is ‘baby’. ‘baby’

ပထမစကားလုံးက 'ကလေး' တဲ့။

'ကလေး' သည် ဗျည်း + 'y' ဖြင့်အဆုံးသတ်သည်ကို မမေ့ပါနှင့်။

Don’t forget, it ends with consonant + ‘y’.

Do you remember the rule?

စည်းကမ်းကို မှတ်မိလား။

It’s ‘babies’ with ‘ies’.

အဲဒါ 'ies' နဲ့ 'ကလေး' ပါ။

Very nice.

အရမ်းသဘောကောင်းတာပဲ။

'baby' 'babies' ဒုတိယစကားလုံးမှာ 'အရုပ်' ဖြစ်သည်။

You simply add an ‘s’.

Then we have ‘wish’.

ပြီးရင် ငါတို့မှာ 'ဆန္ဒ' ရှိတယ်။

Wish is a word that ends in ‘sh’.

Wish သည် 'sh' ဖြင့်အဆုံးသတ်သောစကားလုံးဖြစ်သည်။

Remember the rule.

စည်းကမ်းကို သတိရပါ။

‘wishes’ You add ‘es’.

'ဆန္ဒများ' ကို 'es' လို့ ထည့်ပေးတယ်။

‘taxi’ becomes ‘taxis’.

'တက္ကစီ' သည် 'တက္ကစီ' ဖြစ်လာသည်။

You simply add an ‘s’. ‘choice’ ‘choices’

ရိုးရှင်းစွာ 's' ထည့်ပါ။

Simply add an ‘s’ as well.

Well with photo, you simply add an ‘s’. ‘photos’

Now there are words that have the exact same singular and plural forms.

They are not common, but you need to know a few.

၎င်းတို့သည် သာမန်မဟုတ်သော်လည်း အနည်းငယ်သိထားရန် လိုအပ်ပါသည်။

Let’s take a look together.

အတူတူကြည့်ကြရအောင်။

As you can see, ‘sheep’ is the singular form.

သင်မြင်သည့်အတိုင်း 'သိုး' သည် အနည်းကိန်းပုံစံဖြစ်သည်။

But the plural form is not ‘sheeps’.

သို့သော် အများကိန်းပုံစံသည် 'သိုး' မဟုတ်ပါ။

It is ‘sheep’.

'သိုး' ဖြစ်၏။

Same goes for ‘deer’ ‘deer’. ‘moose’ ‘moose’

'သမင်' 'သမင်' မှာလည်း အလားတူပါပဲ။

‘fish’ ‘fish’ ‘aircraft’ ‘aircraft’

Ok, so you will say, “I see one sheep.”

But also, “I see two sheep.”

ဒါပေမယ့်လည်း “သိုးနှစ်ကောင်ကို ငါမြင်တယ်။”

The exact same word.

Ok, let’s go back for pronunciation.

Some nouns are never singular.

We always use their plural forms.

I have a few common ones for you guys.

ငါ့မှာ မင်းလေးတွေအတွက် တူညီတာတွေရှိတယ်။

Let’s have a look.

‘jeans’ ‘pants’

'ဂျင်းဘောင်းဘီ' 'ဘောင်းဘီ'

‘glasses’ ‘sunglasses’

'အဝတ်အစား' 'ကတ်ကြေး'

‘pajamas’ So you will say, “I have some jeans.”

'အိပ်ဝတ်အင်္ကျီ' ဒီတော့ မင်းပြောသလို "ငါမှာ ဂျင်းဘောင်းဘီတွေရှိတယ်။"

Or, “I have scissors.”

ဒါမှမဟုတ် "ငါ့မှာ ကတ်ကြေးရှိတယ်။"

But you cannot say, “I have a jean.”

It is incorrect in English.

Let’s work a bit on pronunciation.

Their plural forms are very weird.

It’s a bit complicated, so we’re not going to into too much detail.

Don’t worry too much about them.

သူတို့အတွက် သိပ်စိတ်မပူပါနဲ့။

But just a few words that I think you should know.

First, we have words ending in ‘a’.

Their plural form will end in ‘ae’.

These plural forms are very difficult, guys.

In today’s video, I’m going to tell you about compound nouns.

ဒီနေ့ video မှာ ပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်တွေအကြောင်း ပြောပြပေးပါမယ်။

They are very common in English and there are thousands of them.

၎င်းတို့သည် အင်္ဂလိပ်လို အလွန်အသုံးများပြီး ထောင်ပေါင်းများစွာရှိသည်။

You need to know about them.

သူတို့အကြောင်း သိထားဖို့ လိုပါတယ်။

Let’s get started.

စလိုက်ကြစို့။

A compound noun is made up of two different words.

ပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်ကို မတူညီသော စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးဖြင့် ဖွဲ့စည်းထားသည်။

So you take two words, you put them together, to create a new noun.

ဒါကြောင့် နာမ်အသစ်တစ်ခုဖန်တီးဖို့အတွက် စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးကို ပေါင်းထည့်လိုက်ပါ။

They’re usually quite easy to understand.

သူတို့က များသောအားဖြင့် နားလည်ရလွယ်တယ်။

For example, ‘full moon’.

ဥပမာ 'လပြည့်'။

‘Full’ is obviously the adjective describing the moon.

'အပြည့်' သည် လကို ဖော်ပြသည့် နာမဝိသေသနဖြစ်သည်။

Let’s take a look at other examples, and how to create compound nouns.

အခြားသော ဥပမာများနှင့် ပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်များကို ဖန်တီးနည်းကို ကြည့်ကြပါစို့။

Sometimes, compound nouns are a single noun.

တစ်ခါတစ်ရံ ပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်များသည် နာမ်တစ်ခုတည်းဖြစ်သည်။

Like, ‘toothpaste’.

'သွားတိုက်ဆေး' လိုမျိုးပေါ့။

Sometimes, they’re two or more words hyphenated.

တစ်ခါတစ်ရံတွင် ၎င်းတို့သည် စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံး သို့မဟုတ် နှစ်ခုထက်ပိုသော စာလုံးများကို တုံးတုံးထားသည်။

Such as ‘mother-in-law’.

And sometimes, they’re two separate words, like ‘ice cream’.

Now, you have to be careful.

Sometimes, you have a simple adjective plus a noun like ‘a green house’.

တစ်ခါတစ်ရံ သင့်တွင် ရိုးရှင်းသော နာမဝိသေသနနှင့် 'စိမ်းလန်းသောအိမ်' ကဲ့သို့သော နာမ်တစ်ခုရှိသည်။

But you also have a compound noun which is a different meaning.

ဒါပေမယ့် မင်းမှာ အဓိပ္ပါယ်မတူတဲ့ ပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်တစ်ခုလည်း ရှိတယ်။

‘A greenhouse’.

'ဖန်လုံအိမ်'။

Now, ‘a green house’, is a house which is green.

ယခုအခါ 'စိမ်းလန်းသောအိမ်' သည် စိမ်းလန်းသောအိမ်ဖြစ်သည်။

But the compound noun, ‘a greenhouse’, is a place where you grow plants.

သို့သော် 'ဖန်လုံအိမ်' ဟူသော ဒြပ်ပေါင်းနာမ်သည် သင်အပင်များပေါက်ရာ နေရာဖြစ်သည်။

Completely different meaning.

အဓိပ္ပါယ် လုံးဝ မတူဘူး။

Ok, so you have to be careful.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ မင်းသတိထားရမယ်။

Stresses can help.

စိတ်ဖိစီးမှုတွေက ကူညီပေးနိုင်ပါတယ်။

Usually the stress is on the first syllable in compound nouns.

များသောအားဖြင့် stress သည် compound noun ၏ ပထမ syllable တွင်ဖြစ်သည်။

Let’s take a closer look now at compound nouns.

Ok, let’s now take a look at the parts of speech that make up a compound noun.

အိုကေ၊ အခု ပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်နဲ့ ဖွဲ့စည်းထားတဲ့ စကားရဲ့ အစိတ်အပိုင်းတွေကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

We can have a noun and another noun.

ကျွန်ုပ်တို့တွင် နာမ်တစ်ခုနှင့် အခြားနာမ်တစ်ခု ရှိနိုင်သည်။

Like, ‘bedroom’.

'အိပ်ခန်း' လိုမျိုးပေါ့။

We can also have a noun and a verb.

နာမ်နဲ့ကြိယာလည်း ရှိနိုင်တယ်။

Like, ‘haircut’.

'ဆံပင်ညှပ်' လိုမျိုးပေါ့။

A noun and a preposition.

နာမ်နှင့် ဝိဘတ်။

Like, ‘passer-by’.

'လမ်းသွားလမ်းလာ' ကဲ့သို့ပင်။

A verb and a noun.

ကြိယာနှင့်နာမ်။

Like, ‘washing machine’.

'အဝတ်လျှော်စက်' ကဲ့သို့ပင်။

A verb and a preposition.

ကြိယာနှင့် ဝိဘတ်တစ်ခု။

Like, ‘drawback’.

'အားနည်းချက်' ကဲ့သို့ပင်။

A preposition and a noun.

ဝိဘတ်နှင့် နာမ်။

Like, ‘underground’.

'မြေအောက်' ကဲ့သို့ပင်။

An adjective and a ver.

နာမဝိသေသနနှင့် ver.

Like, ‘dry-cleaning’.

'အခြောက်ခံခြင်း' ကဲ့သို့ပင်။

An adjective and a noun.

နာမ်နှင့် နာမ်။

Like, ‘software’.

'ဆော့ဖ်ဝဲလ်' ကဲ့သို့ပင်။

Or a preposition and a verb.

သို့မဟုတ် ဝိဘတ်နှင့်ကြိယာ။

Like, ‘input’.

'ထည့်သွင်း' ကြိုက်သည်။

As you can see guys, there are so many ways to create compound nouns with different words.

ယောက်ျားလေးတွေ မြင်တဲ့အတိုင်းပဲ စကားလုံးတွေနဲ့ ပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်တွေကို ဖန်တီးဖို့ နည်းလမ်းတွေ အများကြီးရှိတယ်။

အခုတော့ အများကိန်းပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်တွေဆီ ဆက်သွားရအောင်။

So when we want to make compound nouns plural, there are rules to follow.

ဒါကြောင့် ပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်တွေကို အများကိန်းဖြစ်အောင် လုပ်ချင်ရင် လိုက်နာရမယ့် စည်းကမ်းတွေ ရှိပါတယ်။

If you have a single word, you simply add an ‘s’.

သင့်တွင် စကားလုံးတစ်လုံးရှိလျှင် 's' ကို ရိုးရိုးရှင်းရှင်းထည့်ပါ။

But if you have separate words, whether hyphenated or not, you will make the most significant

word plural.

ဥပမာတွေကို လေ့လာကြည့်ရအောင်။

‘Newspaper’ will simply be ‘newspapers’.

'သတင်းစာ' သည် 'သတင်းစာ' ဖြစ်လိမ့်မည်။

So I have man newspapers.

ဒါကြောင့် ကျွန်တော့်မှာ သတင်းစာတွေ ရှိတယ်။

Swimming pool.

ရေကူးကန်။

Now, what’s the most significant word?

ကဲ၊ အထူးခြားဆုံး စကားလုံးက ဘာလဲ။

Well, it is ‘pool’.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ အဲဒါ 'ရေကန်' ပဲ။

So we will say, ‘there are two swimming pools’.

ဒီတော့ 'ရေကူးကန် နှစ်ခုရှိတယ်' လို့ပြောမယ်။

You cannot say, ‘there are two swimmings pools.’

'ရေကူးကန် နှစ်ကန်ရှိတယ်' လို့ ပြောလို့ မရဘူး။

No ‘s’ at swimming.

ရေကူးမှာ 's' မရှိပါ။

Brother-in-law What’s the most significant word?

ခဲအိုရဲ့ အထူးခြားဆုံး စကားလုံးက ဘာလဲ။

Well of course, it is ‘brother’.

ဟုတ်ပါတယ်၊ အဲဒါ 'အစ်ကို' ပါ။

So you will say, “I have two brothers-in-law”.

“ငါ့မှာ ညီအစ်ကိုနှစ်ယောက်ရှိတယ်” လို့ပြောလိမ့်မယ်။

And finally, ‘woman doctor’.

နောက်ဆုံးအနေနဲ့ 'အမျိုးသမီးဆရာဝန်'။

Now, what’s the most significant word?

ကဲ၊ အထူးခြားဆုံး စကားလုံးက ဘာလဲ။

Actually, both words are significant.

တကယ်တော့ စကားလုံး နှစ်ခုလုံးက ထင်ရှားပါတယ်။

So we will both make them plural.

ဒီတော့ ငါတို့နှစ်ယောက်လုံးကို အများကိန်းဖြစ်အောင် လုပ်မယ်။

Remember, the plural form of ‘woman’ is ‘women’.

'မိန်းမ' ၏ အများကိန်း 'မိန်းမ' ဖြစ်သည်ကို သတိရပါ။

So we will say, “Four women doctors work at the hospital”.

ဒီတော့ “အမျိုးသမီး ဆရာဝန်လေးယောက်က ဆေးရုံမှာ အလုပ်လုပ်တယ်” လို့ ပြောလိမ့်မယ်။

Let’s work on pronunciation.

အသံထွက်ကို စလုပ်ကြရအောင်။

Can you repeat after me, please.

ကျေးဇူးပြုပြီး ငါ့နောက်ကို ထပ်ပြောနိုင်မလား။

I have man newspapers.

ငါ့မှာ လူသတင်းစာတွေရှိတယ်။

I have man newspapers.

ငါ့မှာ လူသတင်းစာတွေရှိတယ်။

There are two swimming pools.

ရေကူးကန် နှစ်ကန်ရှိတယ်။

There are two swimming pools.

ရေကူးကန် နှစ်ကန်ရှိတယ်။

I have two brothers-in-law.

ငါ့မှာ ညီအကိုနှစ်ယောက်ရှိတယ်။

I have two brothers-in-law.

ငါ့မှာ ညီအကိုနှစ်ယောက်ရှိတယ်။

And finally, Four women doctors work at the hospital.

နောက်ဆုံးတော့ အမျိုးသမီး ဆရာဝန် လေးယောက်က ဆေးရုံမှာ အလုပ်လုပ်တယ်။

Four women doctors work at the hospital.

အမျိုးသမီး ဆရာဝန် လေးဦးသည် ဆေးရုံတွင် အလုပ်လုပ်သည်။

Is ‘cold water’ a compound noun?

'ရေအေး' သည် ပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်ဖြစ်ပါသလား။

It isn’t.

မဟုတ်ဘူး။

‘Cold’ is a simply adjective describing the water.

'အအေး' သည် ရေကိုဖော်ပြသည့် ရိုးရှင်းသောနာမဝိသေသနဖြစ်သည်။

She has a new boy friend.

သူ့မှာ သူငယ်ချင်းအသစ်တစ်ယောက်ရှိတယ်။

Is boy friend a compound noun?

ယောက်ျားလေးသူငယ်ချင်းဆိုတာ ပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်ပဲလား။

Well, it isn’t in this case.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ဒီကိစ္စမှာမဟုတ်ဘူး။

He’s your friend and he’s a boy.

သူက မင်းရဲ့သူငယ်ချင်းဖြစ်ပြီး သူက ယောက်ျားလေး။

But the compound noun, ‘boyfriend’, in one word, exists and has a different meaning.

သို့သော် စကားလုံးတစ်လုံးတည်းတွင် 'ရည်းစား' ဟူသော ဒြပ်ပေါင်းနာမ်သည် တည်ရှိပြီး အဓိပ္ပါယ်အမျိုးမျိုးရှိသည်။

Then, your boyfriend is more than a friend.

ဒါဆိုရင် သင့်ချစ်သူက သူငယ်ချင်းထက်ပိုပါတယ်။

He’s the boy you’re having a relationship with.

သူက မင်းနဲ့ ရင်းနှီးတဲ့ကောင်လေး။

Other example.

အခြားဥပမာ။

The blue bird was singing in the tree.

အပြာရောင် ငှက်ကလေးသည် သစ်ပင်ပေါ်တွင် သီချင်းဆိုနေသည်။

Is ‘blue bird’ a compound noun?

'ငှက်ပြာ' သည် ပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်ဖြစ်ပါသလား။

Not in this case.

ဒီကိစ္စမှာ မဟုတ်ပါဘူး။

It’s a simple bird and it’s blue.

ရိုးရိုးငှက်ဖြစ်ပြီး အပြာရောင်။

But, the compound noun, ‘bluebird’, in one word, exists.

သို့သော်၊ ပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်၊ 'bluebird'၊ စကားလုံးတစ်လုံးတွင် တည်ရှိပါသည်။

It’s a specific bird.

၎င်းသည် သီးခြားငှက်ဖြစ်သည်။

Let’s meet at the bus stop.

ဘတ်စ်ကားမှတ်တိုင်မှာ ဆုံကြရအောင်။

Is ‘bus stop’ a compound noun?

'ဘတ်စ်ကားမှတ်တိုင်' သည် ပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်ဖြစ်ပါသလား။

Well, it is a compound noun, but there is a big mistake.

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ၎င်းသည် ပေါင်းစပ်နာမ်ဖြစ်သည်၊ သို့သော် အမှားကြီးတစ်ခုရှိသည်။

Can you see it?

မင်းအဲဒါကိုမြင်သလား?

Of course, the plural form.

ဟုတ်ပါတယ်, အများကိန်းပုံစံ။

The plural form is not ‘alarms clock’.

အများကိန်းပုံစံသည် 'နှိုးစက်နာရီ' မဟုတ်ပါ။

But, ‘alarm clocks’.

သို့သော် 'နှိုးစက်များ'။

Because the most significant word is ‘clock’.

ဘာကြောင့်လဲဆိုတော့ အထူးခြားဆုံး စကားလုံးက 'နာရီ' ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

In this video, I’m going to tell you about countable and uncountable nouns.

ဒီဗီဒီယိုမှာ ရေတွက်လို့မရနိုင်တဲ့ နာမ်တွေအကြောင်း ပြောပြပါမယ်။

It’s very important to know the difference between countable and uncountable nouns in

အင်္ဂလိပ် လို countable နဲ့ uncountable noun တွေရဲ့ ခြားနားချက်ကို သိဖို့က အရမ်းအရေးကြီးပါတယ်

English.

And students often get confused.

ပြီးတော့ ကျောင်းသားတွေ ရှုပ်တတ်တယ်။

So please listen to me very carefully.

ဒါကြောင့် ငါ့စကားကို သေချာနားထောင်ပါ။

Let’s get started.

စလိုက်ကြစို့။

Countable nouns are nouns that you can count.

ရေတွက်နိုင်သော နာမ်များသည် ရေတွက်နိုင်သော နာမ်များဖြစ်သည်။

Uncountable nouns are nouns that you can’t count.

မရေမတွက်နိုင်သော နာမ်များသည် ရေတွက်၍မရနိုင်သော နာမ်များဖြစ်သည်။

They’re usually a type or a group.

၎င်းတို့သည် များသောအားဖြင့် အမျိုးအစား သို့မဟုတ် အုပ်စုတစ်ခုဖြစ်သည်။

And they’re always singular.

ပြီးတော့ သူတို့က အမြဲတမ်း အနည်းကိန်းပါ။

Let’s look at a few examples.

ဥပမာအနည်းငယ်ကို ကြည့်ကြပါစို့။

Countable nouns – you can say, “a dog.”

ရေတွက်နိုင်သော နာမ်များ - "ခွေး" ဟု ပြောနိုင်သည်။

You can say, “one dog,” “two dogs,” “three dogs,” and so on.

"ခွေးတစ်ကောင်" "ခွေးနှစ်ကောင်" "ခွေးသုံးကောင်" အစရှိသည်ဖြင့် ပြောနိုင်ပါသည်။

“Man.”

"လူ။"

You can say, “a man.”

"လူ" ဟု ပြောနိုင်သည်။

“Two men.”

"လူနှစ်ယောက်။"

“Idea.”

"စိတ်ကူး။"

You can say, “one idea,” “two ideas,” and so on.

“အကြံတစ်ခု၊ အကြံနှစ်ခု” စသဖြင့် ပြောနိုင်ပါတယ်။

“Computer.”

"ကွန်ပြူတာ"

Again, you can say, “one computer, two computers.”

တစ်ဖန် သင်သည် “ကွန်ပြူတာတစ်လုံး၊ ကွန်ပြူတာနှစ်လုံး” ဟု ပြောနိုင်သည်။

And, “house.”

ပြီးတော့ "အိမ်"

Well, you can say, “one house, two houses, three houses,” and so on.

“အိမ်တစ်အိမ်၊ အိမ်နှစ်အိမ်၊ အိမ်သုံးအိမ်” အစရှိသည်ဖြင့် ပြောနိုင်သည်။

These are countable nouns.

ယင်းတို့သည် ရေတွက်နိုင်သော နာမ်များဖြစ်သည်။

You can count them.

သူတို့ကို ရေတွက်လို့ရတယ်။

But if we look at uncountable nouns.

ဒါပေမယ့် မရေမတွက်နိုင်တဲ့ နာမ်တွေကို ကြည့်မယ်ဆိုရင်။

When you say, “water.”

"ရေ" လို့ပြောတဲ့အခါ

You can’t say, “One water, two waters.”

"ရေတစ်ရေ၊ ရေနှစ်" လို့ ပြောလို့မရပါဘူး။

It doesn’t make any sense.

အဓိပ္ပါယ်မရှိပေ။

You cannot count water.

ရေတွက်လို့ မရဘူး။

Same goes for air.

လေထဲမှာလည်း ဒီလိုပါပဲ။

You can’t say, “one air, two airs.”

"လေတစ်လေ၊ လေနှစ်လေ" လို့ပြောလို့ မရဘူး။

It’s just ‘air’.

အဲဒါ 'လေ' ပဲ။

It’s uncountable.

မရေမတွက်နိုင်အောင်ပါပဲ။

‘traffic’ ‘English’

'traffic' 'English'

‘Equipment’ These are all uncountable nouns.

'Equipment' ဒါတွေ အားလုံးဟာ ရေမတွက်နိုင်တဲ့ နာမ်တွေပါ။

You cannot count them And they’re always singular.

၎င်းတို့ကို သင်ရေတွက်၍မရနိုင်သည့်အပြင် ၎င်းတို့သည် အမြဲတမ်း အနည်းကိန်းဖြစ်သည်။

Okay, guys.

ကောင်းပြီ ယောက်ျားတွေ။

Now, let’s take a closer look at rules with countable nouns and uncountable nouns.

ကဲ ရေတွက်နိုင်သောနာမ်များနှင့် ရေမတွက်နိုင်သောနာမ်များပါသော စည်းမျဉ်းများကို အနီးကပ်လေ့လာကြည့်ကြပါစို့။

So how do we know if a word is countable or uncountable?

ဒီတော့ စကားလုံးတစ်လုံးဟာ ရေတွက်လို့မရနိုင်၊ မရေမတွက်နိုင်အောင် ဘယ်လိုသိနိုင်မလဲ။

Well there are a few tricks that can help.

ကူညီပေးနိုင်မယ့် နည်းလမ်းလေးတွေ ရှိပါတယ်။

Let’s look at these words.

ဒီစကားလုံးတွေကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

Some groups of words are very often uncountable.

အချို့သော စကားလုံးများသည် အလွန်ရေတွက်၍မရနိုင်ပေ။

And this can help you.

ပြီးတော့ ဒါက သင့်ကို ကူညီပေးနိုင်ပါတယ်။

For example, liquids.

ဥပမာ အရည်။

Water, juice, milk, beer.

ရေ၊ ဖျော်ရည်၊ နို့၊ ဘီယာ။

All those words are uncountable.

ထိုစကားအားလုံးသည် မရေတွက်နိုင်အောင်ပင်။

Powders.

အမှုန့်များ။

Sugar, flour, salt, rice.

သကြား၊ ဂျုံမှုန့်၊ ဆား၊ ဆန်။

Uncountable words as well.

မရေမတွက်နိုင်သော စကားလုံးများပင်။

Materials.

သင်ထောက်ကူပစ္စည်းများ။

Such as wood, plastic, metal, or paper.

သစ်သား၊ ပလပ်စတစ်၊ သတ္တု သို့မဟုတ် စက္ကူကဲ့သို့။

Food as well.

အစားအသောက်လည်း ပါတယ်။

Like fruit, meat, cheese, and bread.

သစ်သီး၊ အသား၊ ဒိန်ခဲ၊ ပေါင်မုန့်တို့လိုပါပဲ။

And finally, abstract ideas.

နောက်ဆုံးတော့ စိတ်ကူးယဉ် အတွေးတွေ။

Like time, information, love, and beauty.

အချိန်၊ သတင်းအချက်အလက်၊ အချစ်၊ အလှတရားတို့လိုပါပဲ။

Another trick is that most of the time, you can measure uncountable nouns.

နောက်လှည့်ကွက်တစ်ခုကတော့ အချိန်အများစုကို ရေမတွက်နိုင်တဲ့ နာမ်တွေကို တိုင်းတာနိုင်ပါတယ်။

Let’s look at examples.

ဥပမာတွေကို ကြည့်ရအောင်။

For example, if we take liquids.

ဥပမာ- အရည်သောက်ရင်။

I have two liters of milk.

ငါ့မှာနို့နှစ်လီတာရှိတယ်။

Now, you cannot count milk.

အခု နို့ကို ရေတွက်လို့ မရတော့ဘူး။

But you can measure milk.

ဒါပေမယ့် နို့ကို တိုင်းတာနိုင်ပါတယ်။

And you can count liters.

လီတာရေတွက်လို့ရတယ်။

So you can say, “I have two liters of milk.”

ဒါကြောင့် “ငါ့မှာ နို့နှစ်လီတာရှိတယ်” လို့ ပြောနိုင်ပါတယ်။

You can say, “I have a glass of water.”

"ငါ့မှာ ရေတစ်ခွက်ရှိတယ်" လို့ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။

Or “I have glasses of water.”

ဒါမှမဟုတ် "ငါ့မှာ ရေတစ်ခွက်ရှိတယ်။"

“Cups of coffee.”

"ကော်ဖီတစ်ခွက်။"

“Bottles of water.”

"ရေဗူးတွေ။"

So you can measure this uncountable noun.

ထို့ကြောင့် ဤမရေတွက်နိုင်သော နာမ်ကို တိုင်းတာနိုင်သည်။

Same goes with powders.

အမှုန့်တွေနဲ့ အတူတူပါပဲ။

“I have one kilogram of sugar.”

"ငါ့မှာသကြားတစ်ကီလိုဂရမ်ရှိတယ်။"

“Two kilograms of sugar.”

"သကြားနှစ်ကီလိုဂရမ်"

With materials and foods, we often use the word, ‘piece’.

ပစ္စည်းများနှင့် အစားအစာများဖြင့် 'အပိုင်းအစ' ဟူသော စကားလုံးကို မကြာခဏ သုံးပါသည်။

For example, “I ate two pieces of cake.”

ဥပမာ၊ "ငါ ကိတ်မုန့်နှစ်တုံးစားတယ်။"

Or bread.

ဒါမှမဟုတ် ပေါင်မုန့်။

Or pizza.

ဒါမှမဟုတ် ပီဇာ။

Or meat.

သို့မဟုတ် အသား။

Or cheese.

သို့မဟုတ် ဒိန်ခဲ။

“I need pieces of paper.”

"စာရွက်တစ်ရွက်လိုတယ်။"

Wood.

သစ်သား။

Plastic.

ပလပ်စတစ်။

Metal.

သတ္တု။

Or “I have some water.”

ဒါမှမဟုတ် "ငါ့မှာရေနည်းနည်းရှိတယ်။"

‘Some’ is an article that always works with uncountable nouns.

'Some' သည် မရေမတွက်နိုင်သော နာမ်များဖြင့် အမြဲအလုပ်လုပ်နေသော ဆောင်းပါးတစ်ပုဒ်ဖြစ်သည်။

Ok guys, I hope you understand.

အိုကေ၊ မင်းနားလည်မယ်လို့ မျှော်လင့်ပါတယ်။

Let’s move on.

ဆက်ကြရအောင်။

Some words can be both countable and uncountable nouns.

အချို့သောစကားလုံးများသည် countable နှင့် uncountable noun နှစ်မျိုးလုံးဖြစ်နိုင်သည်။

Now not all of them.

အခု အားလုံး မဟုတ်ဘူး။

But some of them.

ဒါပေမယ့် သူတို့ထဲက တချို့။

Let’s take a look.

ကြည့်ကြရအောင်။

“I would like to eat some cake.”

"ကိတ်မုန့်စားချင်လို့"

“I would like two pieces of cake.”

"ကိတ်မုန့်နှစ်ချပ် လိုချင်ပါတယ်"

So in these two sentences, ‘cake’ is obviously and uncountable noun.

ထို့ကြောင့် ဤဝါကျနှစ်ခုတွင် 'ကိတ်မုန့်' သည် သိသာထင်ရှားပြီး ရေမတွက်နိုင်သော နာမ်ဖြစ်သည်။

But if I say, “I would like to eat two cakes.”

ငါက "ကိတ်မုန့်နှစ်လုံးစားချင်တယ်" လို့ပြောရင်၊

Suddenly, it becomes a countable noun.

ရုတ်တရက် ရေတွက်နိုင်သော နာမ်ဖြစ်လာသည်။

Why?

အဘယ်ကြောင့်?

Because in the first two sentences, we are talking about pieces of one cake.

ပထမစာကြောင်းနှစ်ကြောင်းတွင်၊ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် ကိတ်မုန့်တစ်လုံး၏အပိုင်းအစများအကြောင်း ပြောနေသောကြောင့်ဖြစ်သည်။

In the last sentence, we are considering the whole cake.

နောက်ဆုံးစာကြောင်းတွင်၊ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် ကိတ်မုန့်တစ်ခုလုံးကို စဉ်းစားနေပါသည်။

So it becomes countable.

ဒီတော့ ရေတွက်လို့ရတယ်။

Another example.

နောက်ဥပမာ။

“I would like to eat some chicken.”

"ကြက်သားစားချင်တယ်"

“I would like to eat a piece of chicken.”

"ကြက်သားတစ်ခြမ်းစားချင်တယ်"

Both sentences, uncountable noun, ‘chicken’.

စာကြောင်းနှစ်ခုလုံး၊ ရေမတွက်နိုင်သောနာမ်၊ 'ကြက်'။

But the last sentence, “I see two chickens.”

ဒါပေမယ့် နောက်ဆုံးစာကြောင်းကတော့ "ကြက်နှစ်ကောင်တွေ့တယ်"

Hmm, ‘chicken’, in this case, is a countable noun.

ဟမ်၊ 'ကြက်'၊ ဤကိစ္စတွင်၊ ရေတွက်နိုင်သော နာမ်ဖြစ်သည်။

Why?

အဘယ်ကြောင့်?

Because in the first two sentences, ‘chicken’ is food.

အကြောင်းမှာ ပထမစာကြောင်းနှစ်ကြောင်းတွင် 'ကြက်' သည် အစာဖြစ်သည်။

But in the last sentence, ‘chicken’ is an animal.

ဒါပေမယ့် နောက်ဆုံးစာကြောင်းမှာတော့ 'ကြက်' ဟာ တိရစ္ဆာန်ပါ။

So the animal is a countable noun.
