5 Most Common English Mistakes and How To Fix Them!

Today we're doing five of the "Oh my god these are so common!" mistakes in English

Dnes se budeme zabývat pěti častými chybami, o kterých leckdo řekne: Jéžiš, to je tak běžné!

so if you make these mistakes don't worry, you're normal, but today we're gonna fix them

Pokud tedy děláte tyto chyby, nedělejte si starosti - jste normální. Ale dnes je napravíme.

you have some flowers and...

Máte nějaké květiny a ...

"This remembers me of spring"

"This remembers me of spring."

Can you see the mistake?

Vidíte tu chybu?

It's in that word

Je v tom slově.

this mistake is the difference between remember and remind

Tou chybou je rozdíl mezi "remember" a "remind".

both words talk about memory

Obě slova se vztahují k paměti,

but don't make the mistake of using one when you need the other

ale nechybujte, když máte užít jedno a užijete druhé.

Here's an example

Tady je příklad:

When you see someone and you're trying to think of their name

Když někoho spatříte s snažíte se vzpomenout, jak se jmenuje

"What is your name?"

"Jak se jmenuje???"

If you don't have a memory of that person

Když nemáte paměť té osoby,

you would say "I don't remember you"

řekli byste "I don't remember you."

"Remember" means to have a memory of something or someone

"Remember" znamená mít něco nebo někoho v paměti.

if someone gives you the memory of something

Když vám někdo předá vzpomínku na něco (remind),

makes you remember a thing

vy si na to vzpomenete (remember).

then you use the verb "Remind" not "Remember"

Připomenout je "remind", nikoliv "remember".

"Oh you're my mum! Sorry! Thanks for reminding me! I'm so stupid!"

"Oh you're my mum! Sorry! Thanks for REMINDING me! I'm so stupid!"

in other situations for example you need to buy donuts

V jiných situacích máte například koupit koblížky.

you're with your friend, you want to say:

Jste s kamarádem a chcete říci:

"Please make me remember that I need to buy donuts!"

"Prosím, připomeň mi koupit koblížky."

you would say to that friend:

Řeknete mu tedy:

"Please REMIND me! REMIND me to buy donuts"

"Please REMIND me! REMIND me to buy donuts."

So, that mistake from before, let's correct that!

Takže tu dřívější chybu si opravme.

We wouldn't say "This REMEMBERS me of Spring"

Neřekneme: "This REMEMBERS me of Spring."

You would say:

Ale řekneme:

"This REMINDS me of Spring!"

"This REMINDS me of Spring!"

(In a manly sexy handsome voice) "Ahh, Spring!"

The next very common mistake is this one:

Další velmi běžnou chybou je tato:

Sometimes we all need money

Někdy všichni potřebujeme peníze.

And if you are that one friend who always asks this, DON'T!

A jste-li přítelem toho, kdo se takto ptá, NEPŮJČUJTE!

because there's a mistake in that sentence

V té větě je totiž chyba.

Which is the mistake word?

Které je to chybné slovo?

Can you see it?

Vidíte ho?

It's this one

Je to tohle: "BORROW"

we wouldn't say "Can you BORROW ME some money"

Neříkáme "Can you BORROW ME some money?"

that's the mistake

To je chyba.

why is it a mistake?

Proč je to chyba?

there are two words

Jsou dvě slova:

"To LEND" something you are giving something

"To LEND" - když někomu něco dáváte,

"To BORROW" means to take

"To BORROW" - znamená brát.

Example? Example!

Příklad? Příklad!

She wants money

Ona potřebuje peníze.

so how can she ask for it?

Jak tedy o ně požádá?

well she can say in two different ways

Může to říci dvěma způsoby,

depending on which subject she uses

podle toho, jaký podmět použije.

Remember "LEND" means "to give" so "Can YOU lend me...?"

Vzpomeňte si: "LEND" znamená "dát", a proto: "Can YOU lend me...?"

"Can you give me...?"

Tedy: "Můžeš mi dát?"

so the question is "Can you lend me some money?"

Otázka tedy zní "Can you lend me some money?"

Can you give me (for a short time) some money?

To znamená "Můžeš mi (na krátký čas) dát nějaké peníze?"

If the subject is "I", "Can I...?"

Je-li podmětem "I", "Can I ..."

Well now we want to TAKE, right?

tak v takovém případě chceme brát, že?

so "Can I..."

tedy "Can I ..."

"Can I borrow some money?"

"Can I borrow some money?"

Notice here that with LEND, you must have that object pronoun

Všimněte si, že u LEND musíte mít nějaké zájmeno jako předmět.

Lend me, lend him, lend he

Lend me, lend him, lend her.

with borrow, no, that's fine, no object pronoun here

U slovesa "borrow" (vypůjčit si) - ne. Tak to stačí, žádné zájmeno jako předmět.

Again with LEND, you must have that object pronoun

Znovu: u LEND (půjčit) musíte mít v předmětu zájmeno,

Remember, after the verb LEND, you must have that object pronoun YOU

Vzpomeňte si, po slovese LEND musíte použít zájmeno jako předmět (YOU).

Třeba vás bolí zuby a každou chvíli

...touch them... Ouch! It really hurts!

se jich dotýkáte. Au! To to bolí!

V takovém případě, co o nich řeknete?

Ne.

This mistake I think is more common in Latin languages

Myslím, že tento příklad je obvyklý v jazycích latinského původu,

because the word sensible is what's called a "False friend"

protože slovo "sensible" je takzvaný "falešný přítel".

we have the word in English but it doesn't mean the same thing

To slovo v angličtině máme, ale neznamená totéž.

when your feelings are stronger than usual

Když jsou vaše pocity silnější než obvykle,

then you wouldn't say SENSIBLE, you would say...

neřeknete "sensible", ale ...

SENSITIVE "My teeth are SENSITIVE"

SENSITIVE. "My teeth are SENSITIVE."

if your feelings, for example, are quite strong and a sunset can make you cry or

When you are "sensible" it means you're doing something with wisdom

Když jste však "sensible", znamená to, že něco děláte s rozumem,

you're doing it in the wise way the smart way

děláte to chytře, inteligentně,

the good way

správným způsobem.

for example

It's dinner time, you're hungry!

Je čas na oběd, máte hlad.

which meal do you choose?

Které jídlo si vyberete?

a salad or a donut?

Salát, nebo koblih?

well of course your mother would tell you that the donut...

Maminka by vám jistě řekla, že koblížek...

it's not a good idea,

To není dobře,

it's not the smart thing to do

to není rozumné.

the salad however,

is the sensible option

to je rozumná (sensible) volba.

so if she wants to say I'm going to make the smart wise decision

Když si tedy řekne Udělám chytré a moudré rozhodnutí,

I've heard students sometimes say

Někdy slýchám studenty říkat:

there's a difference between "fun" and "funny" this is it:

Mezi "fun" a "funny" je rozdíl, a to:

When a situation an event an activity makes you feel happy

Když je vám nějaká situace, událost nebo činnost příjemná,

You're like "This is good, I like this!"

říkáte si "To je pěkné, to se mi líbí!",

you're smiling, everything is great!

usmíváte se a všechno je skvělé,

then that situation is...

je tato situace ...

"Fun" so if you want to do something that makes you smile

"FUN". Chcete-li tedy dělat něco, co vás rozesměje,

then you should say let's do something...

musíte říci "Let's do something...

"FUN" not "FUNNY"

"FUN", nikoliv "FUNNY".

In short: FUN :)

FUNNY: HAHAHAH! LOL

FUNNY: CHACHACHA!

Když váš koblížek přijde na svět,

tells you a joke and makes you laugh

řekne vám vtip a rozesměje vás,

Then you can say this:

můžete říci:

"Oh donut! You're so funny!

You really make me laugh, you you're so funny! You should be a comedian!"
