Love idioms - English vocabulary (Part 2)

Love continues, as we do 5 more love and relationships idioms!

يستمر الحب ، كما نفعل 5 مصطلحات أخرى للحب والعلاقات!

Starting with this one :

بدءًا من هذا:

When all you can think about is that one other person,

عندما يكون كل ما يمكنك التفكير فيه هو ذلك الشخص الآخر ،

and everytime you think about them, it's like :

وفي كل مرة تفكر فيه ، يكون الأمر كما يلي:

we can say this :

يمكننا أن نقول هذا:

The person has "a crush on" or has "a thing for" the other person.

الشخص لديه "إعجاب" أو "شيء ما" للشخص الآخر .

In this case, she has a crush on him,

في هذه الحالة ، إنها معجبة به ،

she has a thing for him.

ولديها شيء من أجله.

Now, for Number 2 :

الآن ، بالنسبة للرقم 2:

"To punch above your weight" :

"أن تضغط على وزنك":

it's when one person in the relationship is

عندما يكون أحد الأشخاص في العلاقة

significantly less attractive than the other one.

أقل جاذبية من الآخر.

It doesn't necessarily means they're ugly, they could just be

هذا لا يعني بالضرورة أنهم قبيحون ، فقد يكونون

quite normal-looking

بمظهر طبيعي تمامًا

and their partner is extremely attractive.

وشريكهم جذاب للغاية.

So, in this case, maybe,

لذا ، في هذه الحالة ، ربما ،

his friend will say this :

سيقول صديقه هذا:

Do you see the significance of "punching above your weight"?

هل ترى أهمية "الضرب فوق وزنك"؟

Think of boxing :

you know they have different weight classes of boxing

فكر في الملاكمة:

أنت تعلم أن لديهم فئات وزن مختلفة من الملاكمة

Well, imagine that you're very small,

حسنًا ، تخيل أنك صغير جدًا ،

and you're fighting someone of a bigger weight than you.

وأنت تقاتل شخصًا ذا وزن أكبر منك.

It comes from that.

يأتي من ذلك.

You're punching above your weight, in other words :

أنت تتغلب على وزنك ، بمعنى آخر:

"Wow, she's much better than you.. in the looks department"

"رائع ، إنها أفضل بكثير منك .. في قسم المظهر"

Number 3 :

رقم 3:

Next one : if one of the people in the relationship has all of the control,

التالي: إذا كان لدى أحد الأشخاص في العلاقة كل السيطرة ،

basically, she has his balls like "that",

فهي لديه كرات مثل "هذا" ،

if she wants to say :

إذا أرادت أن تقول:

and his reaction is this :

ورد فعله هو:

"Yes of course, honey, I'll do everything for you!"

"نعم بالطبع ، عزيزي ، سأفعل كل شيء من أجلك!"

Again : her hand, his balls...

مرة أخرى: يدها ، كراته ...

Or maybe the other person asks this question,

أو ربما يسأل الشخص الآخر هذا السؤال ،

and the response is this :

والإجابة هي:

If that's the reaction to this response,

إذا كان هذا هو رد الفعل على هذا الرد ،

We say "he is under the thumb".

نقول "إنه تحت الإبهام".

Whatever she wants him to do, he'll do it.

كل ما تريده أن يفعله ، سيفعله.

He wants to go out? "No".

يريد الخروج؟ "لا".

"Ok, it's fine!"

"حسنا لا بأس!"

This reaction, we'd definitely say he's under the thumb.

رد الفعل هذا ، سنقول بالتأكيد أنه تحت الإبهام.

Number 4 :

رقم 4:

When you see a couple going :

عندما ترى زوجين يتجهان:

When we see this kind of behaviour,

عندما نرى هذا النوع من السلوك ،

we can call it :

يمكننا تسميته:

But we could also say :

ولكن يمكننا أيضًا أن نقول:

"To be loved up with" or "to be smitten with" someone :

"أن نكون محبوبين مع" أو "أن نغرم" بشخص ما:

so we could say :

لذلك يمكننا أن نقول:

"they are loved up",

"هم محبوبون" ،

ot "they are smitten"

بعد ذلك "إنهم مغرمون"

"with eachother" is an option but not necessary.

"مع بعضهم البعض" هو خيار ولكنه ليس ضروريًا.

The fifth and final idiom :

المصطلح الخامس والأخير:

Again, everyone knows a couple like this :

مرة أخرى ، الجميع يعرف زوجين مثل هذا:

January, they hate each other,

يناير ، يكرهون بعضهم البعض ،

February, they live each other,

فبراير ، يعيشون بعضهم البعض ،

March, they wanna kill each other,

مارس ، يريدون قتل بعضهم البعض ،

and April, they wanna have babies together.

وأبريل ، يريدون إنجاب أطفال معًا.

In this situation, we can say the relationship is :

في هذه الحالة ، يمكننا القول أن العلاقة هي:

"On again, off again", or it's "on and off".

"تشغيل مرة أخرى ، إيقاف التشغيل مرة أخرى" ، أو "تشغيل وإيقاف".

An example sentence could be :

مثال على ذلك يمكن أن يكون:

"All year, they have been on and off",

"طوال العام ، كانوا متوقفين عن العمل" ،

or "they've been on and off for four months", for example.

أو "كانوا يعملون ويتوقفون لمدة أربعة أشهر" ، على سبيل المثال.
