English Adjective Order - Highly Important Lesson!

Which is really really important if you want to sound like a native speaker.

Now this is a general order.

Agora essa é a ordem geral

You might sometimes hear native speakers using a different order but this is generally the order that we use.

It's quite long but it goes as the following.

é um pouco grande, más vai o seguinte

First we would say "opinion".

Primeiro devemos dizer nossa opinião

"Opinion".

So something is "ugly" or "gorgeous".

Alguma coisa feia, ou linda

Then we would say the "size" of the noun.

Depois dizemos o tamanho do substantivo

"Big-tiny".

Grande, pequeno

Then we would say the "shape".

Depois dizemos o perfil

"Fat". "Round".

obeso, redondo

Then we would say the condition.

Depois dizemos a condição

"Broken". "Dirty".

quebrado, sujo

Then we would say the "age".

Depois dizemos a idade

"Ancient". "New" for example.

Velho, novo, por exemplo

Then the "colour".

Depois a Cor

"Red". "White". You guys know the colours.

Vermelho, Branco. Vocês conhecem as cores

Then the "pattern".

Depois, o padrão

"Spotty". "Striped".

manchado, listrado

Then we would say the "origin".

Depois dizemos a origem

"Spanish". "Indonesian".

Espanhol, Indonésio

Then we would going to say the "material".

Então dizemos o material

"Cotton". "Metal".

Coton, Metal

And finally the "purpose".

E finalmente o propósito

So "sleeping". For like a "sleeping bag".

dormindo, como Saco de Dormir

Or a "flower" for a "flower pot".

ou Flor, como vaso de flores

So... So this is the order that we use to list the adjectives before a noun.

Esta é aordem que usamos

para listar os adjetivos antes do substantivo

But my top tip is we don't tend to list more than three.

mas minha dica é:

não temos que usar mais de três

Usando esta ordem

So use this order, pick three of them and put it before a noun.

escolha três deles e coloquem antes do substantivo

So for example "I've got a red, Spanish, Flamenco dress.".

Por exemplo

Eu tenho um Vestido Vermelho de Flamenco

No, I really really do.

Eu realmente tenho

Eu amo ele

I'm so in love with it. I can't wait to wear it at the Feria de Sevilla this year.

Mal posso esperar para usa-lo

no vídeo de Sevílha, neste ano

Okay.

Or I could say I am wearing a "burgundy, silk" blouse.

Ou posso dizer que estou vestindo uma

Blusa de seda borgonha

So as I like to talk about important items and prized possessions...
