English Adjective Order - Highly Important Lesson!

Today we going to talk about adjective order.

Which is really really important if you want to sound like a native speaker.

que es muy importante si quieres sonar como un nativo

Let's get on with the video.

Now this is a general order.

Este es un orden general

You might sometimes hear native speakers using a different order but this is generally the order that we use.

Puede que escuches a nativos que utilizan un orden distinto

Pero este es el orden que usamos generalmente

It's quite long but it goes as the following.

Es bastante largo, pero se trata de lo siguiente

First we would say "opinion".

Primero, diríamos nuestra opinión

"Opinion".

Opinión

So something is "ugly" or "gorgeous".

Como que algo es feo, o magnífico

Después diríamos el tamaño del sustantivo

Then we would say the "size" of the noun.

"Big-tiny".

Grande, diminuto

Then we would say the "shape".

Después diríamos la forma

"Fat". "Round".

Gordo, redondo

Then we would say the condition.

Después diríamos la condición

"Broken". "Dirty".

Roto, sucio

Then we would say the "age".

Luego diríamos la edad

"Ancient". "New" for example.

Antiguo, nuevo, por ejemplo

Después, el color

Then the "colour".

"Red". "White". You guys know the colours.

Rojo, blanco. Vosotros os sabéis ya los colores

Then the "pattern".

Después el patrón

"Spotty". "Striped".

Con puntos, a rayas

Then we would say the "origin".

Después diríamos el origen

"Spanish". "Indonesian".

Español, indonesio

Then we would going to say the "material".

Después continuaríamos diciendo el material

"Cotton". "Metal".

Algodón, metal

And finally the "purpose".

Y por último, el propósito

So "sleeping". For like a "sleeping bag".

Para dormir, como un saco de dormir

Or a "flower" for a "flower pot".

O de flores, para una maceta

So... So this is the order that we use to list the adjectives before a noun.

Bueno

Este es el orden que utilizamos para enumerar los adjetivos antes de un sustantivo

But my top tip is we don't tend to list more than three.

Pero mi mayor consejo es que no tendemos a utilizar más de tres seguidos

So use this order, pick three of them and put it before a noun.

Así que usad este orden, coged tres de ellos y ponedlos delante de un sustantivo

So for example "I've got a red, Spanish, Flamenco dress.".

Así, por ejemplo

Tengo un traje de flamenco español rojo

No, I really really do.

No, realmente lo tengo

*Sevilla tiene un color especial* Estoy enamorada de él

I'm so in love with it. I can't wait to wear it at the Feria de Sevilla this year.

No puedo esperar para ponérmelo en la Feria de Sevilla

Okay.

Or I could say I am wearing a "burgundy, silk" blouse.

Vale

O podría decir que llevo puesto una blusa borgoñesa de seda

So as I like to talk about important items and prized possessions...

Bueno, como me gusta hablar de cosas importantes y de posesiones preciadas

...in the comments, I would like you to write three objects that you really really love.

So I want you to describe them using adjectives in the correct order.
