I know that to have is a verb,

well, it's an auxiliary verb.

It's a verb that can be really,

really confusing for you guys

because it has so many different meanings,

and it's used so frequently.

It's kind of difficult in the moment when you hear it

to work out exactly what it means,

but I have 10 phrases,

They're idiomatic.

They're ones that you would use in more informal situations.

You'd hear them a lot in the United Kingdom.

I think most of them would be used in the US

and in other English-speaking countries as well.

وفي البلدان الاخرى التي تتحدث الانكليزية أيضا.

So they're pretty universal,

but they're seriously, seriously useful.

So let's get started with the lesson.

Quickly, before we get started,

Number one, my first expression using have

رقم واحد، أول تعبير يستخدم "have"

is to have a laugh.

هو "to have a laugh"

To have a laugh.

"To have a laugh"

Now to have a laugh means to kid around,

الآن "to have a laugh" تعني ان تمزح

or to be joking,

أو أن تسخر

or even to have a joke can be said as well.

أو حتى "to have a joke" يمكن استخدامها كذلك

So if I say to you,

حسنا اذا قلت لك

are you having a laugh?

Are you having a laugh?

I'm essentially saying, are you joking?

انا اقول، هل تمزح؟

Or sorry, I was just having a laugh.

أو sorry, I was just having a laugh

Sorry, I was just joking.

آسف، كنت أمزح فقط

I wasn't being serious.

لم أكن جادا

Number two, is to have somebody on.

رقم اثنان، هو "To have somebody on"

To have somebody on.

To have somebody on

So it's a separable,

كما يظهر فهوة مصطلح مفصول (تتوسطه كلمة بين have و on )

and this one is always separable, phrasal verb.

وهذا التعبير هو عبارة فعلية منفصلة

In this context,

في هذا السياق

in this context,

في هذا السياق

it must always be separated.

يجب دائما أن تكون مفصولة

It is a separable one for this meaning.

وهو تعبير منفصل يعني

It sort of means to persuade somebody

ان تقنع احدا

that something is true,

بان شيئا ما هو صحيح

when in reality, it isn't.

ولكن هو في الحقيقة ليس كذلك.

So if I don't believe something

اذا انا لا اصدق بشيء ما

that somebody is saying to me,

قاله لي احدهم

I'll say,

ساقول

are you having me on?

Are you having me on?

Are you trying to persuade me that something's true,

هل تحاول إقناعي ان شيئا ما هو حقيقي

when it actually isn't in reality?

لكنه في الواقع ليس كذلك؟

(laughs)

See, it's much, much easier just to say,

هل ترون، فانه اسهل بكثير جدا ان تقول

are you having me on rather than

Are you having me on ? بدلا من

are you trying to persuade me something's true,

Are you trying to persuade me Somthing's true,

when it actually isn't reality?

When it actually isn't reality?

(laughs)

Do you know I've only had one coffee today

هل تعرفون اني شربت كوب قوة واحد اليوم

and it's like 5:00pm?

Also, for those of you who don't know,

I spend a lot of my time on a farm,

Now, the next one,

This one is a lovely one.

This one is to have the last laugh,

و هو To have the last laugh

and this is such a satisfying feeling

و هذا كانه شعور بالرضى

to have the last laugh.

لكونك من يضحك اخيرا

To have the last laugh

To have the last laugh

means to finally be more successful

تعني ان تكون انت هو الاوفر حظا في النهاية

than somebody else who was unpleasant to you.

من شخص اخر الذي هو ناقم او غيور منك

So it means to finally be more successful

تعني ان تكون انت هو الاوفر حظا في النهاية

than somebody else who was unpleasant to you.

من شخص اخر الذي هو ناقم او غيور منك

I'll give you an example of this.

سأعطيكم مثالا على ذلك.

Anna, I've got English like a native on the brain.

آنا ، لقد اصبحت الانكليزية في رأسي كانني متحدثة محلية

Anna was bullied for being a nerd at school,

آنا كانت تتعرض لمضايقات كثيرة في المدرسة لكونها تدرس كثيرا

but she had the last laugh

لكن She had the last laugh

when she got the highest grades in the year.

عندما حصلت على اعلى درجة في نهاية السنة

Obviously, these other people were nasty to Anna.

ومن الواضح ان هؤلاء الاشخاص كانوا سيئين مع آنا

This isn't true by the way, I've made it up.

هذا ليس صحيحا بالمناسبة انا اختلقت هذه القصة

The other people were nasty to Anna,

الاخرين كانوا سيئين مع آنا

but she had the last laugh,

لكنها كانت هي من يضحك اخيرا

because she got the highest grades in the school.

لأنها حصلت على اعلى درجة في المدرسة

She was more successful

لقد كانت اكثر نجاحا

than those other people who were unpleasant to her.

but in English,

to have a sweet tooth means to be a big,

To have a sweet tooth تعني

big fan of sweet foods.

من محبي و عشاق الحلويات

So the person with the biggest sweet tooth

اكثر شخص محب للحلويات

that I know is my grandma, my mom's mom.

اعرفه هي جدتي، ام امي

She loves

هي تحب

sweet foods

الحلويات

and anything sugary.

وأي شيء سكري

You can see it in her face when she sees them.

يمكن ان تشاهد هذا في وجهها عندما ترى الحلويات

She's really, really excited about it.

تحمس كثيرا كثيرا لهن

So yes, my lovely grandma has a sweet tooth.

لذلك اجل، جدتي لديها حب للحلويات (Has a sweet tooth)

that is quite common in many different languages,

but with slight variations,

Now number five,

this is a phrase that my mom

used to say to me when I was a child,

ان تقولها لي عندما كنت طفلة

and I always knew that I had done something wrong.

و دائما كنت اعرف اني قد فعلت شبئا خاطئ

This is to have a bone to pick with someone.

و التي هي : To have a bone to pick with someone

So to have a bone to pick with someone.

To have a bone to pick with someone

My mom always used to say, Lucy,

أمي اعتادت داءما ان تقول،لوسي

I have a bone to pick with you.

I have a bone to pick with you

Oh no, if she's watching now,

أوه لا، لو انها تشاهد الان

she'll be laughing 'cause she knows

لسوف تضحك لأنها تعرف

exactly how she says it.

بالضبط كيف كانت تقولها

Lucy, I have a bone to pick with you,

Lucy, I have a bone to pick with you.

and basically,

وأساسا

when somebody has a bone to pick with someone,

عندما شخصا يقول انه has a bone to pick مع شخصا اخر

it means that they have a problem or issue

هذا يعني انه لديه مشكلة او قضية

that they want to discuss with that person.

يريد مناقشتها مع ذلك الشخص

So it would normally be

لذلك تكون عادة

because I hadn't kept my bedroom tidy and organised.

سببها اني لم احافظ على ترتيب و تنظيم غرفتي

This was a problem for my mom,

و هذه كانت مشكلة عند امي

and she wanted to talk to me about it.

و تريد ان تكلمني بشأنها

Lucy, I have a bone to pick with you.

Lucy, I have a bone to pick with you

It's quite a nice diplomatic way,

انها طريقة دبلماسية جميلة نوعا ما

in my opinion,

فى رايي

to confront an issue with someone,

لمواجهة مشكلة مع شخص ما

instead of saying,

بدلا من القول

I want to talk to you about a problem.

I want to talk to you a bout a problem اريد التحدث معك بشأن مشكلة ما

I have a bone to pick with you.

I have a bone to pick with you.

I think it's a bit nicer, but softer.

أعتقد أنها أجمل قليلا، و الطف

Now number six,

الآن رقم ستة

is it number six?

هل هو رقم ستة؟

Yeah, it's number six.

نعم، انها رقم ستة

Number six,

الرقم ستة

is something that I actually had myself

هو الشيء في الحقيفة حصل معي

in 2015,

في عام 2015

late 2015.

في اواخر 2015

It is to have a change of heart,

انها : To have a change of heart

and if you have a change of heart,

وإذا حصل معك A change of heart

it means that you change your attitude,

هذا يعني انك غيرت موقفك

or your opinion about something,

او رأيك حول شيئا ما

normally a long-standing opinion

قد يكون تمسكك الطويل برأي

or attitude about something.

أو موقفك حول شيء ما

Usually, it's a change

عادة، انه تغير

from a negative point to a positive one,

but it's all relative.

My change of heart

was that I thought I wanted to work in marketing.

For some reason, I had it in my head,

I realised that I wanted to continue teaching,

and more than that,

I wanted to start teaching on YouTube.

I didn't think it was going to be a career,

but I definitely knew that this connection

Number seven is to have a crack at something.

Distracted by the beautiful sounds of English.

لقد سحرت بالصوت الجميل للغة الانكليزية

So to have a crack at something is to try something,

To have a crack at something هي ان تحاول شيئا ما

or to try to do something,

أو أن تحاول أن تفعل شيئا ما

or to have a turn at doing something.

أو أن يكون لك دور في القيام بشيء ما.

So for example,

و على سبيل المثال

maybe there's a really hard,

هذا ربما حقا شيء صعب

I always struggle with this.

أكافح دائما مع هذا

You know like a jar

كما تعرفون برطمان

of pasta sauce or gherkins?

صلصة المعكرونة أو المخللات (gherkins)؟

I love gherkins,

pickles in America.

Especially the ones

It's a common tourist situation,

and you can say,

So yes, that's a lovely phrase for you guys to use.

Now number eight,

الان الرقم ثمانية

number eight is a romantic one.

رقم ثمانية هي عبارة رومانسية

This is to have a crush on someone.

انها To have a crush on someone

To have a crush on someone.

So if you have a crush on someone,

اذا قمتم ب Crush on someome

it means you fancy them.

فهذا يعني أنك مولع به

You really quite like them,

في الحقيقة انك معجب به

in a romantic sort of way.

بطريقة رومانسية

So I for a very, very long time,

من زمن جدا جدا بعيد انا

had a crush on Chris Pratt.

كنت had a crush on لكرس برات

I'm not sure if you know who he is.

He's a very, very funny American actor,

and when I saw him in Jurassic Park,

Now crushes normally mean in English,

they're just that initial kind of ooh!

I like him, or I like her, or I like them kind of thing.

أني معجبة به او اني معجب بها او اني معجب بهم بعض الشيء

So yes.

لذلك نعم

I'm sure we all have crushes on people.

Now number nine is one

الآن الرقم تسعة

that's very relevant to you guys actually.

هذا مهم جدا لكم يا رفاق في الواقع

It is to have a good command of something.

انها : To have a good command of something

To have a good command of something.

To have a good command of something

This means to know something well

وهذا يعني أن تعرف شيئا ما بشكل جيد

or to be good at something.

أو أن تكون جيد في شيء ما

So we really, really,

لذلك نحن حقا، حقا

really frequently use it with languages.

حقا كثيرا نستخدمها مع اللغات.

So if I say I have a good command of Spanish,

لذلك إذا قلت g I have a good command of spanish

it means I know Spanish well.

وهذا يعني أنني اعرف الاسبانية بشكل جيد

I am good at speaking Spanish.

أنا أجيد التحدث باللغة الإسبانية.

I'm more than capable of conversing.

أنا أكثر من قادر على التحدث

So if you guys are applying for a job,

فاذا كنتم يا رفاق تريدون التقديم على وظيفة

or you want to update your CV,

أو كنتم ترغبون في تحديث سيرتكم الذاتية،

you don't want to say,

لا يجب عليك القول

I'm fluent in English,

أنا طليق في اللغة الإنجليزية،

but you know,

لكنك تعرف

you want to say that you are good at it.

انك تريد ان تقول انك جيد فيها

You can say,

I have a good command of the English language.

تستطيع أن تقول

I have a good cogmmand of the English language

I have a good command of English.

I hagve a good command of English

Really nice one to use.

حقا لطيفة الاستخدام

Now number 10 is slightly more old-fashioned,

الآن رقم عشرة هي قليلا من الطراز القديم،

but you can use it in quite formal situations.

ولكن يمكنكم استخدامها في المواقف الرسمية نوعا ما

This is to have a good mind to do something.

هي: To have a good mind to do something

To have a good mind to do something.

To have a good mind to do something

It's ever so slightly threatening,

انها تكون بشيء من الوعد

and it means to be tempted to do something.

و تعني انك تميل لفعل شيء

So, for example,

لذلك، على سبيل المثال

if I heard that somebody was gossiping behind my back,

إذا سمعت أن شخصا ما كان يثرثر وراء ظهري،

I might say,

قد أقول

I have a good mind to confront them,

I have a good mind to confront them

as in I am tempted to confront them.

كما هو الحال في I am tempted to confront them

It doesn't mean that I'm going to do it,

وهذا لا يعني أنني ذاهب للقيام بذلك

but it means that the temptation is there.

ولكنه يعني أن الرغبة موجودة لذلك

So you might receive a piece of work

قد تستلم الواجب

from your teacher or your university lecturer,

من مدرسك ام المحاضر الخاص بك في الجامعة

or your boss,

أو رئيسك في العمل

and they've returned it to you with a bad mark

و ارجعوه اليك بعلامة سيئة

or a bad review,

او بمراجعة سيئة

and you might say to your colleague or classmate,

فسوف تقول لزملائك حينها

I have a good mind to go a speak to them about it,

I have a good mind to go a speak to them

like I am tempted to.

كانك تقول لدي رغبة لذلك

It's kind of like,

انها نوعا ما ك

I know I shouldn't, but I kind of want to.

وأنا أعلم أنني لا ينبغي ان افعل ذلك لكني ارغب نوعا ما بفعله

Right guys.

حسنا يا رفاق

Those are my 10 have expressions.

هذه كانت هي التعبيرات العشرة خاصتي

There are loads more.
