Today we're going to be discussing the word goodbye

اليوم سوف نناقش كلمة"good bye"

and why you need to stop using it.

ولماذا علينا التوقف عن استخدامها

Believe it or not, we hardly ever say goodbye.

صدق او لا تصدق, بالكاد نقول وداعا

It's something that just doesn't roll off the tongue

انه شي لا يتدحرج على اللسان "ليس سلس النطق"

and it sounds quite formal.

وتبدو رسمية بعض الشيء

You might see it written down or hear it in films,

ربما تراها تكتب او تسمعها تقال في الافلام

but on a general day to day basis, you won't hear goodbye.

ولكن بشكل عام انت لاتسمع وداعا

In this video,

في هذا الفيديو

I am going to give you loads of alternatives to goodbye.

انا سوف اعطيك الكثير من البدائل ل "good bye"

I'm going to give you casual and slang ones

انا سوف اعطيكم كلمات عامية وغير رسمية"غير نظامية"

that you can use with friends and family,

التي يمكنك استخدامها مع العائلة والاصدقاء

and I'm also going to give you more formal ones,

وانا ايضا سوف اعطيك اخرى رسمية

more old-fashioned ones,

واخرى ستايل قديم

and ones that you can use in business situations.

واخرى يمكنك استخدامها في حالات الاعمال

I will also try to differentiate

وانا ايضا ساحاول ان اريكم الاختلاف

between American and British English as I know

بين الانكليزية الامريكية والبريطانية كيفما استطيع

some of you find that really interesting and helpful.

بعضكم يرى ان هذا ممتع جدا و مفيد

So this video is perfect for improving your vocabulary,

and pronunciation even further,

I highly recommend the special method

انا اوصي بالطريقة الخاصة

of combining reading actual books

لجمع قراءة الكتب

with listening to audio books.

مع الاستماع لكتاب صوتي

Let me explain this method.

دعني اشرح هذه الطريقة

Take a book that you have already read in English

خذ كتابا قراته مسبقا باللغة الانجليزية

or a book that you would like to read in English.

او كتاب تود قراءته باللغة الانجليزية

I've got loads of recommendations

انا لدي الكثير من التوصيات

in the description box down below,

في صندوق الوصف بالاسفل

and read that book

اقرا ذلك الكتاب

whilst listening to the audiobook version.

في اثناء الاستماع الى اصدار مسموع

It sounds excessive, but it works.

انها تيدو متهورة ولكن انها تعمل

Reading alone will not help you

القراءة وحدها لن تساعدك

with your pronunciation in English

مع لفظك للانجليزية

because most frequently, how a word is written

لانه في كثير من الاحيان كيف تكتب الكلمة

does not correspond with how a word is pronounced.

لا تتطابق مع كيف تلفظ

Look at they're, there and their, for example,

انظر ل "there" "their" "they*re"

they are all spelled differently,

جميعها تكتب بطريقة مختلفة

but all pronounced in the same way.

لكن جميعها تلفظ بنفس الطريقة

Reading a book alone will not show you that.

قراءة الكتاب لوحدها لن تريك ذلك

However, if you then introduce an audio book,

على كل حال

you will start to learn these differences

انت سوف تبدأ بتعلم تلك الاختلافات

and you will start to learn the pronunciation of words.

وسوف تبدابتعلم كيفية نطق الكلمة

If you listen to a word, as you read it,

ان اسمعت للكلة بينما انت تقرأها

your brain will start to make the connections

دماغك سوف يبدأ بعمل اتصال

and next time you see that word,

وفي المرة القادمة التي ترى هذه الكلمة

you'll know how to pronounce it,

سوف تعرف كيف تلفظها

and next time you hear that word,

وفي المرة القادمة التي تسمع تلك الكلمة

you will know how to spell it.

It is such an effective method

Right, let's get started with the lesson.

I'm going to begin with casual ways of saying goodbye.

انا سوف ابدا بالطرق الغير رسمية لقول"goodbye"

The first one I think most of you will know it is bye.

الاولى! انا اعتقد ان معضمكم سوف يعرفها هي bye

Bye on its own is really frequently used.

bye في كثير من الاحيان تستعمل

It's just so easy to say

فقط لانها سهلة اللفظ

and it's a word you can say with a smile.

وهي كلمة يمكن استعمالها مع ابتسامة

Bye, bye.

Bye,Bye.

Number two, and it's an extension of that

ثانيا. وهذه امتداد لbye

is bye-bye or buh-bye.

ebye-bye او buh-bye

Now we use this in a different situation

الان.نحن نستخدم هذه في حالات مختلفة

to just bye on its own.

عن الحالات التي تملكها bye

And it's important that you know this,

من المهم لك ان تعرف هذا

bye-bye is a little more cute

bye bye انها قليلا اكثر لطافة

and little more childish and infantile.

اكثر طفولية قليلا. صبيانية

It's something you'd likely say to a child, bye-bye.

انها شيء يمكنك قوله لطفل

However we do use it sometimes

على كل حال نحن نستخدمها احيانا

if we're trying to be very cute or friendly,

لنكون اكثر لطافة ا ودودين

bye-bye, see you.

وداعا اركاكم

That brings me onto my next one, which is see you later.

هذا ياخذني للكلمة التالية التي هي "see you later"

See you later, we often say see ya instead of see you.

"see you later" نحن عادة نقول "see ya" بدلا من "see you"

See you later.

This is one that we say if we already have plans

هذه نقولها اذا كنا خططنا مسبقا

to see someone again in that same day.

لرؤيه احدهم في ذلك اليوم

If we don't have plans, we can say number four

اذا كنا لانملك خططا يممكننا قول رقم اربعة

which is, see you soon.

التي هي "see you soon"

If you want to be really casual, you can use number five

اذا كنت تريد ان تكون عفويا حقا يمكنك استخدام رقم خسة

which is just see ya and that is very, very informal.

التي هي "see ya" هي جدا جدا غير رسمية

Now, number six is a little bit more advanced.

الان سادسا. هي اكثر تقدما قليلا

You will look really good

سوف تبدو جيدا حقا

if you use this around a native speaker.

ان استخدمت هذه حول متكلم اصلي"الانجليزية هي لغته الام"

This one is, I'm heading off!

هذه هي "i'm heading off"

This is a good way to start to leave an event

هذه طريقة جيدة لترك حدث ما

that you do want to be at anymore.

التي لا تريد ان تكون فيها مجددا

To head off is a phrasal verb meaning to begin to leave,

انها تعني فعليا البدء بالرحيل

to head off.

to head off

Saying, oh, I'm heading off, I'll see you soon,

لقول....

is a great way to start the goodbye process

انها طريقة رائعة لمعالجة مسألة الوداع

which we all know can be a little lengthy.

التي نعلم جكيعا انها ستكو مطولة قليلا

A shortened down version of that,

نسخة مختصرة من ذلك

number seven, is just I'm off, right? I'm off, see you.

رقم سبعة انها فقط "i'm off

That's very casual again.

ذلك عفوي جدا

Another one that we can use which is very British,

اخرى يمكننا استخدامها والتي هي بريطانية جدا

is I'm going to make a move or I've got to make a move.

هي "i'm going to make a move" "i got to take amove"

To make a move is to leave.

I need to make a move.

In America, they're more likely to say,

قي امريكا هم يميلون لقول

I'm going to make tracks or I've got to make tracks

and that means to drive away.

وذلك يعني ان تقود بعيدا

You're making tracks with your car.

انت تتبع مسار بسيارتك

All of these phrases are normally preceded with, right.

كل هذه العبارات يمكن ان يسبقها كلمة right

You say right, as you're getting up, right, I'm off.

Right, I'm going to make tracks.

Another one, again, very British

واحدة اخرى بريطانية"مجددا"

is, oh, I've got to get going, I've got to get going.

Practise that one on your own a couple of times

عليك التدرب على هذه لبعض الوقت

because I've got to get going, I've got to get going

is quite a tongue twister, twister.

انها كاعصار على اللسان

Oh! I can't believe the word tongue twister

اوه! لا اصدق تلك الكلمة اعصار اللسان

was a tongue twister for me, that is hilarious.

اعصار اللسان "مضحك جدا"

(laughing)

Okay, number 11 is I must be going.

حسنا رقم احدى عشر هو "i most be going"

Oh, what's the time? I must be going, I must be off.

اوه! كم الوقت عليَ الذهااب

A very American one is I've gotta take off,

واحدة امريكية جدا هي...........

I've got to take off.

In British English, take off is really for clothes,

في الانجليزية البريطانية "take off" تستخدم للملابس حقا

to take off your clothes and to take off as an aeroplane,

ان تخلع ملابسك او ان تطير بالطائرة

an aeroplane takes off.

اقلاع طائرة

But in America that means to leave as well.

لكن في امريكا تعني المغادرة

14, very, very casual is have a good one

عفوية جدا هي "have a good one" رقم اربعه عشر

and that means have a good day,

وهذا يعني يوما جيدا

but it's very warm and friendly, have a good one.

لكن هذه دافئة وودودة ....

And the last one, number 15 is talk to you later,

واخر واحدة هي رقم 15

talk to you later.

It's a bit of an extension of, see you later.

انها قليلا امتداد ل"see you later"

Talk to you later implies that you might send a text

"talk to you later" تعني انك قد ترسل نصا

or make a phone call to them later that day, right.

او مكالمة هاتفية لهم في ذلك اليوم

Let's talk about formal professional and old-fashioned ways

لنتكلم عن طرق رسمية قديمة

of saying goodbye in English.

لقول وداعا بالنجليزية

The first one is very American

الاولى هي امريكية جدا

and it's used in business or service situations.

وتستخدم في حالات ادارة الاعمال و الخدمات

It's, have a great day, you have a great day.

هي "have a great day"

And I was so surprised when I went to the USA

وانا كنت متفاجأة جدا عندما ذهبت للولايات المتحدة الامريكية

because everyone wanted me to have a great day.

لان الجميع يريد مني ان احظى بيوم رائع

And on the first couple of times

I'm just like, oh that's nice.

انا افكر ب اوه! ذلك لطيف

And then just when I realised that everyone said it,

وبعدها فقط استنتجت ان الجميع يقولها

I realised that no one really wanted me to have a great day.

استنتجت ان لا احد يريد مني ان احظى بيوم جيد 🤣

The British version of this would be, have a lovely day

في بريطانيا سوف تكون "have a lovely day"

and that is slightly more sincere.

وهذا اكثر صدقا قليلا

We don't use it as often so it sort of means more.

نحن لا نستخدم هذه عادة

An alternative to this is take care, or you take care,

بديل لهذا هو"take care" او "you take care"

or you take care now, and that's quite warm and friendly.

او " you take care now" هذه اكثر لطافة و ودودة

If you want to say goodbye to somebody

ان اردت ان تقول وداعا لشخص ما

that's going on a journey or is driving away,

ذاهب في رحلة او يقود بعيدا

you can say have a safe journey

يمكنك القول "have a safe journey"

or have a good journey, that's British,

"have a good journey"ذلك بريطاني

and in American English, they're quite likely

و في الانجليزية الامريكية انها تقريبا مثل

to say, drive safe or you drive safe now.

قول "drive safe"او "you drive safe now"

Number five, more formal, it was nice to see you

رقم اربعة وهي اكثر رسمية "it was nice to see you"

or it was nice seeing you.

او "it was nice yo seeng you"

Either or, nice to see or nice seeing.

او "nice to see " "nice to seeing"

If you've just met the person for the first time,

ان كنت تلتقي بشخض لاول مرة

it was nice to meet you, it was lovely meeting you.

"كان من اللطيف ان اراك او كان جميلا ان ارك

Nice and lovelier, interchangeable of course.

قابلة للتبديل طبعا

The next one, very, very posh.

التالية اكثر اناقة

This is very old-fashioned is farewell.

هذه قديمة جدا و توديعية

You might see this one in books and movies set in the past.

من الممكن انك رايتها في احد الكتب او الافلام التي تكون عن الماضي

We don't tend to use it now,

نحن لا نميل لاستخدامها الان

but I think it's important for you to understand it.

لكن انا اعتقد ان من المهم لك ان تفهمها

Another old-fashioned one is, tara.

اخرى قديمة هي " tara "

Now this is slang but it's very old-fashioned,

الان هذه عامية لكن هي قديمة جدا

so I put it in this list.

لذلك وضعتها في هذه اللائحة

Older people might say tara

الكبار في السن ربما يقولون "tara"

to you which means goodbye, obviously,

لك. مما يعني وداعا بوضوح

'cause it's in this video.

بسبب هذا الفيديو

And another one is tata or tata for now.

اخرى هي "tata" او "tata for noe"

And again, very old-fashioned and a little bit posher.

ومجددا قديمة جدا وانيقة نوعا ما

The last one,

if you want somebody to keep in contact with you,

اخر واحدة

ان ارد من احد ما ان يبقى على اتصال معك

you can say stay in touch,

يمكنك قول"stay in toch"

and that's a nice way of ending a conversation.

تلك طريقة لطيفة لانهاء محادثة
