ငါသည်ငါ့အိမ်စာလုပ်ပါလိမ့်မယ် အိမ်စာပြီးသွားလိမ့်မယ်

The loud noise shocked William. William was shocked by the loud noise.

ကျယ်လောင်သောအသံကဝီလျံကိုတုန်လှုပ်စေခဲ့သည်။ ဝီလျံသည်ကျယ်လောင်သောအသံကြောင့်အံ့အားသင့်ခဲ့သည်။

What’s the difference between each of those pairs  of sentences? One of them is the in active voice  

ဒီဝါကျတစ်ခုစီရဲ့ခြားနားချက်ကဘာလဲ။ ၎င်းတို့ထဲမှတစ်ခုသည်တက်ကြွသောအသံ

and one of them is in the passive voice. So how  can you tell the difference? That’s what this  

ဖြစ်ပြီး၎င်းတို့ထဲမှတစ်ခုသည် passive အသံဖြစ်သည်။ ဒီတော့ခြားနားချက်ကိုဘယ်လိုပြောပြနိုင်မလဲ။ ဒါကဒီ

Well,  

ကောင်းပြီ၊

the active voice and passive voice in  English all comes down to the ‘subject’  

အင်္ဂလိပ်ဘာသာဖြင့်တက်ကြွသောအသံနှင့် passive voice သည်ဝါကျ ၏ 'subject'

and the ‘object’ of a sentence. The ‘subject’  is the person or thing doing something.  

နှင့် 'object' သို့ဆင်းသက်သည် ။ ဘာသာရပ်ဆိုသည်မှာတစ်စုံတစ်ရာကိုလုပ်ဆောင်သောလူ (သို့) အရာဖြစ်သည်။

The ‘object’ is having something done to it. For  example, in the sentence ‘Anna walked the dog’,  

'object' ကအဲဒါကိုလုပ်ပြီးပြီ။ ဥပမာ - 'အန်နာသည်ခွေးကိုလမ်းလျှောက်သွားသည်' ဆိုသည့်ဝါကျတွင်

Anna is the subject because she is doing  the action and the dog is the object because  

အန်နာသည်သူမလုပ်ဆောင်သောအရာနှင့်ခွေးသည်အရာဝတ္ထုဖြစ်သည်၊ အဘယ်ကြောင့်ဆိုသော်

it is having that action done to it. In the sentence ‘I will do my homework’,  

၎င်းသည်ထိုလုပ်ဆောင်မှုကိုပြုလုပ်နေခြင်းကြောင့်ဖြစ်သည်။ ဝါကျတွင် 'ကျွန်ုပ်၏အိမ်စာကိုလုပ်မည်' ဆိုသည့်အရာ၊ ကျွန်ုပ်သည်

the subject is ‘I’ because I am doing the  action and the object is ‘my homework’.  

အရေးယူမှုကိုပြုလုပ်နေပြီး၊

In the sentence ‘The loud noise shocked William’,  the loud noise is the subject, because it is doing  

ဝါကျတွင်ဝီလျံက“ ကျယ်လောင်သောအသံသည်တုန်လှုပ်သွားသည်” ဟုပြောသောအခါ ၎င်းသည်လုပ်ဆောင်မှုကိုလုပ်ဆောင်နေသော

the action, in this case it is doing the shocking.  The object is William because he is being shocked. 

ကြောင့်ကျယ်လောင်သောအသံသည်အကြောင်းအရာ ဖြစ်သည်။ သူထိတ်လန့်နေသောကြောင့်အရာဝတ္ထုဝီလျံဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

A sentence using the active voice can start with  the subject, followed by the verb, followed by the  

active voice ကိုသုံးပြီးဝါကျတစ်ခုသည်အကြောင်းအရာနှင့်စတင်နိုင်သည်၊ နောက်ကြိယာနှင့်၎င်း၊

object, followed by the rest of the sentence.  For example: ‘Darren lost the book at school’.  

အရာဝတ္ထုနောက်မှ၊ ကျန် ဝါကျ၏နောက်မှစတင်နိုင်သည် ။ ဥပမာ: 'Darren ကျောင်းမှာစာအုပ်ပျောက်သွားတယ်'

The subject is ‘Darren’, the verb is ‘lost’  or ‘to lose’ and the object is ‘the book’. 

ဘာသာရပ်သည် 'Darren'၊ ကြိယာသည် 'ပျောက်ဆုံးခြင်း' သို့မဟုတ် 'to lost' နှင့်အရာဝတ္ထုသည် 'စာအုပ်' ဖြစ်သည်။

A sentence using the passive voice is constructed  differently. This time, we start with the object,  

passive အသံကိုသုံးပြီးဝါကျကိုကွဲပြားစွာတည်ဆောက်သည်။ ဤအချိန်တွင်ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည်အရာဝတ္ထုနှင့်စတင်သည်

followed by the verb, followed by the subject.  For example: ‘The book was lost by Darren at  

။ ကြိယာနောက်၊ နောက်ဘာသာရပ်နောက်လိုက်သည်။ ဥပမာ - 'စာအုပ်ကို Darren က ကျောင်းမှာ ဆုံးရှုံးခဲ့တယ်

school’. Again, the subject is ‘Darren’, the  verb is ‘lost’ and the object is ‘the book’.

' တနည်းကား, ဘာသာရပ် 'Darren', ကြိယာ '' ဆုံးရှုံးခဲ့ရ 'နှင့်အရာဝတ္ထု' 'စာအုပ်' 'ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဒါဆိုအခု active voice

So now we know the difference  between the active voice  

နဲ့ passive voice ကြားကခြားနားချက်ကိုငါတို့သိပြီ

and the passive voice. But why do we use them? When constructing basic sentences in English, it  

။ ဒါပေမယ့်ကျနော်တို့ကသူတို့ကိုဘာလို့သုံးတာလဲ။ အခြေခံဝါကျများကိုအင်္ဂလိပ်ဘာသာဖြင့်တည်ဆောက်သောအခါ

is best to stick to the active voice to make sure  that your sentences are clear and direct. However,  

သင်၏ဝါကျများသည်ရှင်းလင်းပြီးတိုက်ရိုက်ဖြစ်ကြောင်းသေချာစေရန်တက်ကြွသောအသံကိုကပ်

beyond that, English speakers will often choose  to use the active voice because it emphasises  

ထားခြင်း ကအကောင်းဆုံးဖြစ်သည်။ သို့သော်၎င်း ထက် ကျော်လွန်၍ အင်္ဂလိပ်စကားပြောသူများသည်လှုပ်ရှားမှုပြုလုပ်

the person or thing who performs an action. For  example: “Isaac achieved an A in his first exam!”  

သူသို့မဟုတ်လူ ကိုအထူးအလေးပေးသောကြောင့်တက်ကြွသောအသံကိုအသုံးပြုရန်ရွေးချယ်လေ့ရှိသည် ။ ဥပမာ -“ Isaac ဇာက်သည်ပထမဆုံးစာမေးပွဲတွင် A ရခဲ့သည်။

The active voice is the appropriate choice for  this sentence because it emphasises the person,  

တက်ကြွသောအသံသည်ဤဝါကျအတွက်သင့်တော်သောရွေးချယ်မှုဖြစ်သည်။ အဘယ်ကြောင့်ဆိုသော်

Isaac, who did the action. If we said the same  sentence in the passive voice, it would be: “An  

သူသည်အရေးယူလုပ်ဆောင်သူကို Isaac ဇာက်အား အလေးပေးသောကြောင့် ဖြစ်သည်။ အကယ်၍ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည်တူညီသောဝါကျကို passive အသံဖြင့်ပြောပါက

A was achieved by Isaac in his first exam”. It’s  wordy and it’s not as clear or easy to understand.

“ ပထမစာမေးပွဲတွင် Isaac ဇာက်က A ကိုရရှိခဲ့သည်” ဖြစ်သည်။ ဒီဟာကရှင်းရှင်းလင်းလင်းနားလည်ဖို့မလွယ်ဘူး။

However, there are circumstances when the passive  voice is more appropriate. For example, when you  

သို့သော် passive voice သည်ပိုမိုသင့်လျော်သောအခြေအနေများရှိသည်။ ဥပမာအားဖြင့်၊ သင်

want to put the emphasis on the recipient of the  action, or on the action itself. For example:  

လုပ်ဆောင်ချက်၏လက်ခံသူကိုဖြစ်စေ၊ လုပ်ဆောင်ချက်ကိုယ်တိုင်ဖြစ်စေအလေးထားချင် သည့်အခါ ။ ဥပမာ -

“The dress was handmade by Megan”. This is a  common pattern in passive voice sentences in the  

“ ၀ တ်စုံကို Megan မှပြုလုပ်သည်” ။ ၎င်းသည် အတိတ်ကာလမှ passive voice စာကြောင်းများတွင်အသုံးများသောပုံစံတစ်ခုဖြစ်သည်

past tense: Object, was, the verb, by, subject.  ‘The dress’ is the object, ‘handmade’ is the  

။ Object, was, the verb, by, subject ။ '၀ တ်စားဆင်ယင်' သည်အရာဝတ္ထုဖြစ်သည်။ 'လက်လုပ်' သည်

action and ‘Megan’ is the subject. This puts the  dress itself and the action of making it by hand  

လှုပ်ရှားမှုဖြစ်ပြီး 'Megan' သည်ဘာသာရပ်ဖြစ်သည်။ ၀ ါကျရဲ့အစမှာ ၀ တ်စုံကို ၀ တ်ဆင်ပြီး ၀ တ်ဆင်နိုင်တဲ့လုပ်ဆောင်မှုကို နားထောင်ပေးသူက

at the beginning of the sentence, telling the  listener that that is the most important part. 

အဲဒါဟာ အရေးအကြီးဆုံးအစိတ်အပိုင်းဖြစ်တယ်လို့ပြောလိုက်တယ်။

Another time you might need to use the passive  voice is if you don’t want to include the subject,  

နောက်တစ်ခုက passive voice ကိုသုံးဖို့လိုကောင်းလိုလိမ့်မယ်။ ဘာသာရပ်ကို

or if you don’t know who the subject is. For  example: “The bag was stolen on Sunday night”.  

သင်မ ထည့်ချင်ဘူးဆိုရင်၊ ဒါမှမဟုတ်သူကဘယ်သူလဲဆိုတာမသိဘူး။ ဥပမာ -“ ဒီအိတ်ကိုတနင်္ဂနွေညမှာခိုးသွားတယ်။

Notice how in this sentence,  ‘the bag’ is the object as it has  

ဒီဝါကျမှာ 'အိတ်' ဟာအရာဝတ္ထုတစ်ခုဖြစ်တယ်ဆိုတာကိုသတိပြုပါ

had the action done to it. It has been stolen.  

။ ခိုးယူခံခဲ့ရပါတယ်

But there is no subject in this sentence because  who did the action is unknown or not relevant.

သို့သော်ဤဝါကျတွင်မည်သည့်ဘာသာရပ်မျှမရှိပါ၊ အဘယ်ကြောင့်ဆိုသော်မည်သူအရေးယူဆောင်ရွက်သည်ကိုမသိသောသို့မဟုတ်မသက်ဆိုင်သောကြောင့်ဖြစ်သည်။

So remember: if the subject is at the beginning  of the sentence, followed by the verb,  

သတိရပါ၊ အကယ်၍ အကြောင်းအရာသည်ဝါကျအစတွင်ရှိလျှင်၊ ကြိယာ နောက် ၊

followed by the object, the sentence is using  the active voice. However, if the sentence  

နောက်ပြီးအရာဝတ္ထုနောက်မှလိုက်လျှင်ဝါကျသည်တက်ကြွသောအသံကိုအသုံးပြုနေသည်။ ဒါပေမယ့်ဝါကျ

begins with the object, followed by the verb,  followed by the subject, or if the sentence has  

ကအရာဝတ္ထုနဲ့စတယ်၊ ကြိယာနောက်၊ ဘာသာရပ်နောက်လိုက်တယ်၊ ဒါမှမဟုတ်ဝါကျမှာ

no subject, then it is in the passive voice. Now it’s time for a quiz. I’m going to read  

ဘာသာရပ်မရှိဘူးဆိုရင်တော့အဲဒါဟာ passive voice ထဲမှာရှိတယ်။ အခုတော့ပဟေforိဖြေဖို့အချိန်ရောက်လာပြီ။

3 sentences using the passive voice. Then, I’m  going to give you 3 more sentences in the passive voice  

ဝါကျ ၃ လုံးကို passive voice သုံးပြီး ရေး စေချင်ပါတယ်။ ထို့နောက် passive အသံဖြင့်နောက်ထပ်စာကြောင်းသုံးခုကို

and I would like you to write them using the active voice.  

ငါပေးမည်။ သင့်အားတက်ကြွသောအသံဖြင့်သူတို့ကိုသင်ရေးစေချင်သည်။

There are a few different tenses that I'm gonna use so pay close attention to

the tense that I am saying so that you make sure that you use the same when you change from

အထူးဂရုပြု ပါ။ အဆင်သင့်ဖြစ်ပြီလား? သွားပြန်ပြီ။ ပထမသုံးစာကြောင်း။ ဒီဟာကမခက်ခဲဘူးလို့မျှော်လင့်ပါတယ် ဒါပေမယ့်မင်းဘယ်လောက်ရခဲ့တာလဲ။ ငါသိပါရေစ။
