Now for English learners who want to sound natural,

حالا برای فراگیران زبان انگیسی که می خوان طبیعی به نظر برسن

vowels cause headaches.

حروف صدا دار درد سر سازه

With just five vowel letters in the English alphabet,

با تنها پنج حرف صدا دار در الفبای انگلیسی

there are twenty different vowel sounds

بیست حرف صدا دار مختلف وجود داره

used in spoken English.

که تو انگلیسی استفاده میشه

So today I want to focus on three of the most common

خب، امروز من می خوام تا روی سه تا از اونا تمرکز کنم

diphthong vowel sounds.

که بهشون می گن حروف صدا دار diphthong

as in 'say'

ای مثل say

as in 'boy' and

اوی مثل boy

as in 'bike'.

و آی مثل bike

And if you're wondering what the heck a diphthong is,

don't go anywhere, I'll explain it all for you in just a sec.

Before we get started today, a quick reminder

So what the heck is a diphthong?

خب این diphthong چی هست؟

It's a complicated word that you will probably

یه کلمه پیچیده ست که شما احتمالا

never really need to use yourself

هرگز نیاز به استفاده از خود کلمه ندارید

but a diphthong is a type of vowel sound

ولی diphthong یه نوع از حروف صدا دار هست

and there are two types of vowels, monophthong,

دو نوع حروف صدا دار داریم، monothong

that's like

اونی هست که

They're short and singular sounds.

کوتاه تره و تکی هست

But diphthongs are a little different because they are a

ولی diphthong یه قدری متفاوت هست،

single vowel sound that actually combines

اونا حروف صدا دار تکی هستند که ترکیب میشن

two vowel sounds together in the same syllable.

دو تا حروف صدا دار کنار همدیگه در یک بخش

In diphthongs, the first sound is stronger

در diphthong، بخش اول قوی تره

than the second one

از بخش دوم

but it's important that both sounds are made together

ولی مهم اینه که هر دوی اونا با هم دیگه صدا می دن

in the same syllable.

Now the reason why this is important for you is because

و دلیل اینکه این چرا برای شما مهمه اینه که

many of you are Italian,

خیلی از شما ایتالیایی هستین

Greek, Thai, Spanish, Vietnamese

یا یونانی، تایلندی، اسپانیایی، و یا ویتنامی

and you don't actually have this type of vowel sound

و شما واقعا این نوع حروف صدا دار رو

in your native language so it's a completely new sound

تو زبان خودتون ندارین، بنابرین صداهای کاملا جدید هستن

that you need to learn.

که شما نیاز دارین یاد بگیرین

And for that reason, it's really common

و به همین خاطر، خیلی معمول هست

for many of you to mispronounce diphthongs

برای خیلی از شما که اونا رو اشتباه تلفظ کنین

and only use the first sound.

یا فقط حرف اول رو استفاده کنید

So if you're only using one sound, then the vowel sound

بنابراین اگه شما فقط یه صدا رو استفاده کنین اون موقع حرف صدا داری

that you're making is wrong but that's exactly

what you're doing here, right?

We're going to practise diphthong sounds together

and we'll focus on three of the most common ones.

Now there's actually eight diphthongs

در واقع هشت diphthong داریم

in British and Australian English,

there's only five in American English,

و فقط پنج تا در انگلیسی آمریکایی

but we're going to practise them

Let's start with

Now this sound is made with the

Now check it out, notice how my mouth moves

So when you're making a diphthong sound,

your mouth needs to move while you are making

this sound. For this one, it's
