We can all agree that becoming fluent in a language

But I've got a question for you.

Do you feel like you've reached a point in your English

where you've plateaued?

You've made lots and lots of progress

in the past

and now it feels a bit flat.

Your progress has really slowed down.

You've lost energy and momentum.

You're not improving as quickly as you want to.

But perhaps this is how you're feeling right now.

The feeling of being stuck with your progress

is really, really common. Most language learners,

Well I've got a few useful tips to help you push through

But before we get started, if you have a friend

who's been feeling miserable

Tip number one.

Expand your vocabulary.

Expand it, make it bigger.

Wider. Broader.

This may seem like a really obvious tip

قد تبدو هذه النصيحة بديهية جدا

but it can be really, really easy to get stuck

لكن يمكنك ان تعلق بسهوله

using the same words over and over and over again.

باستخدام نفس الكلمات دائما و أبدا

It's what's comfortable and it's what's easy.

دلك سهل و مريح

And hey, if you can

ماذا لو كنت قادر

communicate your message in English,

على توصيل رسالتك باللغة الإنجليزية

do you really need to learn more?

هل فعلا تحتاج إلى تعلم المزيد؟

Well if you're happy with your current level of English

حسنا! إذا كنت سعيد بمستوى لغتك الانجليزية حاليا

then maybe not!

ربما لا

Maybe what you've got is perfectly okay.

ربما ما تعلمته هو مثالي جدا

But if you want to take your English to the next level,

لكن، إذا أردت أن ترتقي بمستواك إلى المستوى التالي

then you do need to improve your vocabulary range,

which can seem like a bit of an overwhelming task.

Where do you start?

Actually using the new words that you learn

is the key to acquiring new vocabulary.

So make the new words relevant.

Make sure you use them.

Look for interesting, new practice materials.

New shows on Netflix or

TedTalks or different podcasts.

أو على محادثات تيد أو تسجيلات مختلف

Our world is so full of information and opinions

عالمنا مليئ بالمعلومات والآراء

and ideas, and most of them can be found at any time.

والأفكار، و غالبها يمكن أن تجدها في أي وقت

In your pocket!

في جيبك!

Look for new, interesting content

إبحث عن محتوى الجيد

always.

دائماً

Don't get stuck watching the same shows, listening

لا تتعلق بمشاهدة نفس العروض، أو الإستماع

to the same things, over and over again.

إلى نفس الأشياء دائما وأبدا

If you love talking about food,

إذا كنت تحب التحدث عن الطعام

don't just watching cooking shows.

لا تشاهد برامج الطبخ فقط

But search for podcasts where people are discussing

لكن إبحث عن تسجيلات يكون فيها الناس الناس يتحدثون

topics and issues about food.

عن مواضيع ومشاكل الأكل

Or even better, join online groups or communities

أو من الأحسن الالتحاق بالمجموعات على الإنترنت

that discuss ideas and trends about these topics.

حيت يناقشون أفكارهم و توجهاتهم بخصوص هذه المواضيع

Daily.

Even if you're not ready to participate

حتى و إن لم تكن مستعدا للمشاركة

in these discussions in these groups,

في هذه النقاشات داخل هاته المجموعات

you can see what other people are talking about,

فيمكن الاطلاع على محادثات الناس الآخرين

what they're chatting about.

This is an endless supply of new ideas

and words and topics. And they're real, they're current,

relevant conversations

that will help you to keep motivated and interested

Get used to different English accents.

تعود على اللهجات الإنجليزية المختلفة

Now, hands up if you've ever experienced

الآن، إرفع يدك إذا كنت قد جربت

this situation.

You just start feeling

أنت فقط بدأت الإحساس

confident with your English-speaking skills,

بالثقة في مهاراتك بالتحدث باللغة الإنجليزية

and you're feeling pretty chuffed with yourself, right?

And then suddenly, you find yourself in a conversation

with someone that has an English accent

that you're not used to.

Or someone who speaks really fast.

There is nothing that leaves you feeling more deflated

and miserable, right?

In the U.S, Australia, England,

people speak English with different accents.

There's Scottish and Irish accents,

and South African, Canadian, New Zealand.

But then, there's everyone else

who's learned English as a second language

which is by far the majority of English learners.

English is spoken by about

twenty percent of the world's population

So you really need to get comfortable

Search for videos and lessons from teachers with

Watch movies from different

English-speaking parts of the world.

Don't just watch American movies.

لا تشاهد فقط الأفلام الأمريكية

And speak with people who have

وتحدث مع أناس لديهم

different English accents.

لهجات إنجليزية مختلفة

Find a speaking partner from Iran or from Brazil

أعثر على شريك للتحدث من إيران أو البرازيل

and practise speaking with them.

و تحدث معهم

Oh right! The next tip is: use English filler words.

حسنا! النصيحة التالية :إستعمل كلمات الربط

Learn them and train yourself to use them.

تعلمهم و مرن نفسك على إستعمالهم

Filler words are meaningless words

هذه الكلمات هي كلمات بدون معنى

that can be used when you're

ويمكن إسعمالها عندما

pausing or you're hesitating while speaking.

تتوقف أو تتردد أثناء التحدث

It helps other people in a conversation

هي تساعد الناس الآخرين في المحادثة

to know that you haven't finished yet.

على معرفة أنك لم تنتهي بعد

But you're just thinking about

ولكنك لازلت تفكر

what you're going to say next.

في ماذا ستقول بعد ذلك

So you'll likely have these filler words in your

إذا فغالبا ما تستعمل مثل هذه الكلمات

own language as well but they're probably

في لغتك أيضا، لكن من المحتمل

different in English.

أنها مختلفة في الانجليزية

Okay.. um.. well..

حسنا... إمممم... نعم..

ah..

آههه...

right...

uh.. basically..

اووهه.. في الحقيقة

you see...

أنظر..

I guess...

أظن..

like...

مثل...

I mean...

يعني

you know..

كما تعرف...

Pausing or hesitating in conversation is normal!

التوقف أو التردد أثناء المحادثة أمر طبيعي

Especially when you need an extra moment

خاصة عندما تحتاج وقتا إضافيا

to think about what you're going to say next.

لتفكير في ما ستقول بعد ذلك

And since we use filler words without actually

أيضا فإننا تستعمل هذه الكلمات في الحقيقة

really thinking about them,

بدون تفكير

your instinct or your habit will be to use

غريزتك وعادتك ستكون أستعمال

filler words from your native language.

هذه الكلمات من لغتك الأم

But instead, I want you to think about these

لكن في المقابل أريدك أن تفكر في هاته

English filler words

and next time you can't think of a word,

و في المرة المقبلة حين لا يمكنك التفكير في كلمة

try to use them instead.

حاول إستعمالهم في المقابل

Try to get into the habit of using words and sounds

حاول التعود على إستعمال الكلمات و الأصوات

that are natural in English.

التي تبدو طبيعية في اللغة الإنجليزية

Now it's important not to overuse these filler words.

الآن، من المهم أن لا تفرط في إستعمالهم

For, um...

ل..

example... I actually... like,

مثلا... في الحقيقة... مثل

literally, um...

حرفيا... إمممم

sound..

يبدو...

totally, uh..

غالبا....

you know... awful!

تعرف.. متعب

Try not to do that!

حاول أن لا تفعل ذلك

I sounded really unsure and confused and

بديت حقا غير متأكده و مرتبكة

not very confident there when I was speaking.

وغير واثقة عندما كنت أتحدث

But when used correctly,

لكن عندما تستعمل بشكل صحيح

filler words can actually

كلمات الربط، يمكنها في الحقيقة

help to join your thoughts together.

أن ترتب أفكارك

And make your speech flow a little more naturally.

وأن تجعل خطابك سلس وأكثر طبيعية

I mean, if you think about it,

أعني، لو فكرت في ذلك

filler words can be, well,

كلمات الربط يمكن أن تكون،.. حسنا

well they can be really helpful sometimes!

يمكن أن تساعدك في بعض الأحيان

Phrasal verbs.

4 الأفعال المركبة

Now English speakers use tons of phrasal verbs,

الآن المتحدثون باللغة الإنجليزية يستعملون الكثير من الأفعال المركبة

you'll hear them everywhere!

سوف تسمعها في كل مكان

Especially in spoken English.

خاصة في الإنجليزية العامية

Phrasal verbs are really, really common.

الافعال المركبة شائعة جدا

They're a nightmare to try and learn, aren't they?

هم كالكابوس عندما تحاول تعلمهم، أليسو كذلك؟

Phrasal verbs are a verb followed by a preposition.

الأفعال المركبة هي أفعال متبوعة بحرف جر

Or an adverb.

أو ظرف

And together, that creates a new meaning.

و مع بعضهم يكونون معنا جديدا

Often a completely different meaning

غالبا ما يكون معنى جديد كليا

to the original meaning of the verb.

عن معنى الفعل وحده

But let's look at a few examples, right here.

Please come in.

Please come up with the answer to this question.

توصل إلى الجواب عن هذا السؤال من فضلك

Please come forward

with any information that you hear about the crime.

See what I mean? These three sentences have

أترون ما أعني؟ هذه الثلاث جمل لها

totally different meanings.

معاني مختلفة تماما

'come in' means something different from 'come up'

'come in' تعني شيئا مختلفا عن 'come up'

and something different from 'come forward'

وفي بعض الأحيان شيئا مختلفا عن 'come forward'

and all of those meanings are different

و جميع هاته المعاني مختلفة

from the original meaning of the verb 'come'

عن المعنى الأصلي لفعل 'come'

Now we know that phrasal verbs are tricky to learn

الآن نعرف أن الافعال المركبة صعبة التعلم

and it's so, so important that you're learning them

و من المهم جداً تعلمها

in context.

So what's my recommendation?

إذا ما هي توصيتي؟

Set a goal to learn and to use one new phrasal verb,

every day. Just one.

Train your tongue.

5 مرن لسانك

You can have perfect listening skills

يمكن أن تكون لديك مهارات مثالية في الاستماع

and perfect grammar,

but if you can't communicate your message

لكن إذا كنت غير قادر على توصيل رسالتك

clearly with your mouth and your tongue, well,

it's really difficult to feel

positive about your speaking skills.

Good pronunciation is definitely one very, very

important part of pushing your English to the next level.

Now think about it this way, if you want to improve

الآن فكر في هذه الطريقة، إذا كنت تريد تحسين

your arm strength or your leg strength,

قوة دراعك أوقوة أرجلك

what do you do? You exercise!

ماذا تفعل!؟ تتمرن

You hit the gym. You workout.

تذهب إلى نادي الرياضة، تتدرب

We train our muscles to be stronger.

نحن نمرن عضلاتنا لتصبح أقوى

Now the tongue is also a muscle

اللسان هو عبارة عن عضلة كذلك

and it can also be trained.

لذا يمكننا أن نمرنه

There are some English sounds that just don't exist

هناك بعض الأصوات في اللغه الانجليزيه لا تتواجد ببساطة

in your native language. It's a fact.

في لغتك الأم، هذه حقيقية

So of course, it's normal if your tongue

إذا فمن الطبيعي أن لسانك

just can't make those sounds at first.

غير قادر على إصدار تلك الأصوات في أول الأمر

But it doesn't mean

وهذا لا يعني

that you can never make those sounds.

أنك لن تقدر أبدا على إصدار تلك الأصوات

With a little bit of training and a little bit of hard work,

مع القليل من التمرن و العمل الجاد

your tongue and your mouth

لسانك وفمك

will be able to make those sounds.

سيصبحان قادران على إصدار تلك الأصوات

Now firstly, you really need to know which sounds

ا، أنت حقا تحتاج إلى معرفة تلك الأصوات

are difficult for you.

الصعبة عليك

Which are the sounds that you really need to practise?

ماهي الأصوات التي تحتاج إلى التمرن عليها؟

Maybe the 'th' sound.

ربما صوت(TH)

Maybe the 'ch' sound is really hard for you.

ربما صوت (CH) صعب بالنسبة لك

And perhaps you say 'shicken' instead of 'chicken'.

ربما أنت تنطلق 'shicken' عوض 'chicken'

So find video lessons that

لذا أعثر على دروس

focus on the sound that you need help with and study it.

تركز على الصوت الذي أنت تحتاج فيه مساعدة و أدرسه

Then choose a word that has that sound

بعد ذلك إختر كلمة تحتوي على ذلك الصوت

- a tricky one, right?

حيلة، أليس كذلك؟

And say it over and over and over again.

و إنطقها مرات عديدة

Squirrel.

سنجاب، سنجاب.....

Say it until you can't say it anymore

أنطق الكلمة حتى تصبح غير قادر نطقها مرة أخرى

until your tongue is really tired.

حتى يصبح لسانك متعبا

And it will feel tired, just like your stomach's

ستحس بالعياء، كما تشعر به معدتك

going to feel tired after you do a hundred sit-ups.

بعدما تقوما بالمئات من التكرارات

But better still, what if you practised pronunciation

ولكن يبقى من الجيد أيضا إذا تمرنت على النطق

while you were exercising?

أثناء قيامك بالتمارين الرياضية

Sixth.

السادس، السادس....

As you train your tongue muscles,

عندما تمرن عضلات لسانك

those tricky words and sounds will become easier

هاته الكلمات الصعبة سوف تصبح أسهل

and easier to make.

وأسهل لنطقها

It just takes a little practice, consistent practice.

فقط تحتاج إلى القليل من التطبيق، التطبيق بشكل دائم

So, they're my tips to help you level up in English.
