Having some type of support

is very necessary when you are creative.

You know, there has to be something that's fueling that creativity,

that's fueling that fire that you have inside.

My love for music and creativity starts way back, way back.

음악과 창의력에 대한 제 사랑은 아주 오래 오래 전 시작됩니다.

Back in the South Bronx where I grew up,

I would go outside and all I would hear is music.

You go around to the back park, the DJs are playing,

there's a basketball game going on,

but then you would look at the handball court,

and that handball court would have an amazing graffiti mural,

I was instantly attracted to the creative.

Music has been my therapy since day one.

그때부터 음악은 저에게 치유였어요.

Anytime I get stressed out,

I go to the arts, I go to creativity, I go to music.

예술을 찾고, 음악을 찾았고, 무언가 창조하려 했어요.

Music makes people feel hugged, people feel loved.

And then I remember one of my uncles saying,

"You should get into producing," I'm like, "What's producing?"

You know, it started as a family-owned business,

because Ruff Ryders was created by my family.

It gave you DMX, it gave you Eve,

I've gotten every accolade in music that one can get.

There are some galleries now and places you walk in,

And I felt that a lot of people were using that as an excuse

to exit art.

They feel that art is only for rich people.

그들은 예술이 부자만을 위한 것이라고 느끼죠

Whoa.

We've got to stop this, we've got to fix this.

And that's what made me and my wife say,

you know, we have to create an entry point to the younger generation

that didn't understand the art world,

and then we started "No Commissions."

I was a part of the sale with my brother Sean "Diddy" Combs,

I think that even if five people did it,

it'll start to change everything in the arts.

And this is happening in Europe already.

It happens in the music industry,

it's called publishing.

And artists are able to survive,

musicians are able to survive,

off of the residual income of their publishing.

저작권과 출판권에서 나온 실수입을 받아서 말이죠.

So how can we take something that brings creatives together,

and celebrate each other?

Myself and Timbaland have been working on this idea

called Verzuz for about three years now.

Then this trying time came,

and everybody started going to social media

모두가 소셜미디어에 가서 자신을 표현하고 자랑하기 바빠집니다.

to express themselves.

So what we did was I played my top songs,

he played his top songs,

and we went on Instagram Live.

This is so good for the culture.

SB: A lot of people like to say "battle,"

we pulled back off of that word "battle,"

because we're battling enough in the world today.

They both went up millions of views.

Both of their songs reentered the charts.

And then we look at the first ladies Verzuz,

You know, billions and billions and billions of impressions.

아시다시피, 엄청나게, 엄청나게 많은 10억개도 넘는 표현들이 난무했죠.

This is something I've never seen before.

전에는 본 적이 없던 것이었죠.

And I felt that these artists are getting their flowers today,

그리고 이와같은 예술가들이 오늘날 그들을 위한 꽃을 받을 수 있는 것이

which is a great thing, while they can smell them.

정말 멋진 일인것 같습니다.

살아계셔서 받은 꽃향기를 맡을 수 있는 동안에 말이죠.

This was personal for me,

이건 제 개인적인 이야기이긴 하지만,

because many a times I've been counted out,

여러번 제가 실패한 경험이 있기 때문인지는 몰라도

I've been hot and cold 100 times.

상황이 이랬다저랬다 하기를 100번은 겪어 봤습니다.

You still have to understand the business as an artist,

아직도 예술도 사업의 종류 중 하나라는 이해도가 부족하고

to elevate to your level that you deserve to be.

예술가가 받아야 마땅한 대우 수준으로 올릴 필요가 있습니다.

Because most creatives, we're very emotional,

더 창의적일 수록, 더욱 감성적일 수 있기 때문에

we're very "let somebody else handle that, I want to stick to this."

종종 "작품 판매는 다른 사람에게 맡기고 저는 창작에만 전념할래요"식의

태도를 취하곤 합니다.

But not only creativity is key, education is key,

하지만, 창의성 뿐만 아니라 교육도 중요합니다.

which is the reason why I went back to school

제가 다시 학교로 돌아간 이유이기도 하고요.

to sharpen my pencil in my mid-30s.

30대 중반에 제 자신을 더 발전시키기 위해서요.

We have to know our business.

우린 우리가 뭘 해야하는 지 알 필요가 있습니다.

But it's going to take us digging in a little deeper

이는 저희가 더 깊히 탐구하고

and pulling out the knowledge that we need to prepare ourselves

사업에 필요한 지식들을 끄집어 내도록 할 것입니다.

for this world that's waiting to take advantage of the creatives.

예술가들의 이점을 이용하려고 기다리는 이 세상에 맞서기 위해서요.

그러고 나서 더 나은 선택을 할 수 있습니다.

Then we can make better choices,

then we can end that conversation of artists dying poor.

그러고 나서 예술가는 찢어지게 가난하다라는 생각을 끝낼 수 있습니다.

If we're not protecting the arts,

we're not protecting our future,
