HW: How did you get into yo-yoing?

ST: So I'm Shu Takada from Japan.

ST: 저는 일본에서 온 슈 타카다 입니다.

I’m a six-time world champion, as she introduced me.

세계 대회에서 여섯 번 우승했고요. 이미 소개 해 주신 대로요.

For me, yo-yo isn’t only a toy

제게 요요는 단순한 장난감이 아니라 하나의 예술 형태입니다.

but also an art form

and a tool that I can express myself [with] on the stage.

제 자신을 무대 위에서 표현할 수 있는 도구 입니다.

Anyway, I started yo-yo when I was six years old

아무튼, 저는 여섯 살 때 요요를 시작했어요.

because of my father, who did it as a hobby.

요요가 취미였던 아버지 덕분이죠.

When I saw his trick for the first time,

처음으로 아버지의 요요 묘기를 본 순간

I was so impressed and found it so cool.

저는 엄청 감탄했고, 정말 멋지다고 생각했어요.

But to be honest, I felt a little bit jealous

하지만 솔직하게 말해서, 조금 질투가 났기도 했죠.

while he was showing off his techniques.

아버지의 요요 기술을 보면서

And I swore to myself that one day I will surpass his level.

저는 언젠가는 그 기술을 뛰어넘겠다고 다짐했습니다.

So that's how I started yo-yo.

그렇게 요요를 시작하게 됐어요.

HW: And what do you love about yo-yoing?

HW: 그럼 요요의 매력은 무엇인가요?

ST: So what I love about yo-yoing

ST: 요요의 가장 좋은 점은

is that you can express yourself with such a small tool,

이렇게 작은 도구로 자신을 표현할 수 있고,

and you can bring it everywhere.

어디나 가지고 다닐 수 있다는 점이죠.

You can play it everywhere.

어디서든 가지고 놀 수 있고요.

And I think this is really cool to make new friends all over the world,

그리고 개인적으로 정말 좋은 점은

전 세계에서 새로운 친구를 만들 수 있다는 거예요.

even though they can't speak the same language as you.

서로 언어가 다르더라도 말이죠.

HW: I love that.

HW: 정말 멋있네요. 그럼 오늘은 무엇을 보여주실 건가요?

And what are you going to show us today?

ST: So today, since my topic is beyond the yo-yo,

ST: 오늘 제 주제가 “요요를 넘어서” 이기 때문에

I’d like to share a new style of yo-yoing, which you’ve never seen before.

전에 보지 못했던 새로운 요요 스타일을 보여드리고 싶어요.
