Now, he was very ill when I took this picture.

Are we to be bystanders,

like moths dancing around somebody else’s flame?

蛾のような 傍観者で いるべきなのでしょうか？

Or are we to be upstanders,

それとも 共感という名の松明を掲げ

暗闇を光で照らす 当事者になるべきでしょうか？

and we light darkness ourselves with our own torch of compassion?

Because when there is light,

というのも 光があれば

we see each other not as strangers,

お互いを 赤の他人とか

not as opponents

敵ではなく

but as creative partners.

共に創造する仲間だと 思えるからです

And then together, we rebuild this troubled world.

そして この問題だらけの世界を 共に作り変えるのです

Together, we reconnect.

共に つながりを取り戻し

Together, we earn the respect of history

共に 歴史から尊敬される者となり

and transform this chaos into a beautiful cosmos.

この混沌とした世界を 美しい秩序に変えるのです
