In this video, we’re going to talk about subjective pronouns.

En este video, vamos a hablar sobre los pronombres subjetivos.

So, let’s take a look at the board.

Entonces, echemos un vistazo al tablero.

Here they are. The subjective pronouns.

Aquí están. Los pronombres subjetivos.

Please take a careful look. They’re very important in English.

Okay. So, the first subjective pronoun is ‘I’.

Bueno. Entonces, el primer pronombre subjetivo es 'yo'.

“I” means me. “I’m Esther”.

“Yo” significa yo. “Soy Ester”.

He Now, “he” is only used for boys or men.

So another boy or man is “he”.

“She” is used for girls or women.

It “It” is used for a place like a school, an animal like a dog, or a thing like a chair.

The next one is “you”. “You” means you.

siguiente es “usted”. “Tú” significa tú.

Okay. “you”.

Bueno. "usted".

We “We” means other people and me.

Nosotros “Nosotros” significa otras personas y yo.

For example, “I sing”, “you sing”, then “we sing”.

Por ejemplo, “yo canto”, “tú cantas”, luego “nosotros cantamos”.

Okay. “we”.

Bueno. "nosotros".

And the last one is “they”.

Y el último es “ellos”.

“They” means many people, places, animals or things.

“Ellos” significa muchas personas, lugares, animales o cosas.

Okay. So, more than one.

Bueno. Entonces, más de uno.

If there’s more than one, we use the subjective pronoun ‘they’.

Si hay más de uno, usamos el pronombre subjetivo 'ellos'.

Okay, let’s move on to the next part.

Okay, so let’s practice together with subjective pronouns.

Bien, practiquemos juntos con los pronombres subjetivos.

The first sentence on the board says, “Jenny sings”.

La primera oración en la pizarra dice: “Jenny canta”.

Now Jenny is one girl.

Ahora Jenny es una niña.

So we can say, “She sings”.

Entonces podemos decir, “Ella canta”.

“Jack sings”. Jack is one boy.

“Jack canta”. Jack es un niño.

So we have to say, “he sings”.

Así que tenemos que decir, “él canta”.

The last sentence says, “Jenny and Jack sing”.

La última oración dice: "Jenny y Jack cantan".

Now Jenny and Jack are two people.

So we have to say, “they sing”.

Okay, let’s move on to the next part.

The first sentence on the board says,

‘The cat’ is an animal, so we have to say, “It runs”.

The next sentence says, “The dog and cat run”.

La siguiente oración dice: “El perro y el gato corren”.

Now, ‘the dog and cat’, they are two animals.

Ahora, 'el perro y el gato', son dos animales.

So anytime you have two or more things, we say, “They run”.

Entonces, cada vez que tienes dos o más cosas, decimos: "Corren".

‘They’.

'Ellos'.

Okay, now, for the last sentence, I’m going to talk about my cat, Ongee.

Bien, ahora, para la última oración, voy a hablar sobre mi gato, Ongee.

Ongee is a cat. He’s an animal.

Ongee es un gato. Él es un animal.

But he has a name. He’s a boy cat.

Pero tiene un nombre. Es un gato chico.

Okay and I love him. And he’s like family.

Está bien y lo amo. Y es como de la familia.

So, “Ongee runs”. I can say “He runs”.

Entonces, "Ongee corre". Puedo decir “Él corre”.

Okay. Let’s move on to the next part.

Okay, here are some more examples.

But, this time, you have to figure out the subjective pronoun together with me.

Okay. So, “My students study”.

Bueno. Entonces, “Mis alumnos estudian”.

What should we use?

¿Qué debemos usar?

Well, ‘My students’, there’s an ‘s’. Right.

Bueno, 'Mis alumnos', hay una 's'. Derecha.

They’re people and there’s more than one.

Son personas y hay más de uno.

Many people.

Muchas personas.

So we have to use the subjective pronoun, ‘they’.

Así que tenemos que usar el pronombre subjetivo, 'ellos'.

“They study”.

"Estudian".

The next example.

El siguiente ejemplo.

“John is handsome”.

“Juan es guapo”.

Okay, ‘John’, that’s a person.

Bien, 'John', eso es una persona.

There’s only one. Right…

Sólo hay uno. Cierto…

And it’s a boy, ‘John’.

Y es un niño, 'John'.

So what should we use?

Entonces, ¿qué debemos usar?

We have to use the subjective pronoun, ‘he’.

Tenemos que usar el pronombre subjetivo, 'él'.

One boy. We say, “he”.

Un chico. Decimos “él”.

“He is handsome”.

"Es guapo".

Okay, the last one. “Pizza is delicious”.

Bien, el último. “La pizza es deliciosa”.

‘Pizza’ is a thing.

'Pizza' es una cosa.

And there’s only one. Right.

Y solo hay uno. Derecha.

There’s no ‘s’. One pizza.

No hay 's'. una pizza

We say, “it”.

Decimos “eso”.

“It is delicious”. Okay.

"Es delicioso". Bueno.

Let’s move on to some more examples.

Pasemos a algunos ejemplos más.

Okay, the first example says,

Bien, el primer ejemplo dice:

“Seoul is a city”.

"Seúl es una ciudad".

Now, ‘Seoul’ is a place. Okay.

Ahora, 'Seúl' es un lugar. Bueno.

So we have to use the subjective pronoun, ‘it’.

Así que tenemos que usar el pronombre subjetivo, 'eso'.

“It is a city”.

"Es una ciudad".

The next example says,

El siguiente ejemplo dice:

“My parents love Ongee”.

“Mis padres aman a Ongee”.

Now, ‘Ongee’ is my cat. “My parents love Ongee”.

Ahora, 'Ongee' es mi gato. “Mis padres aman a Ongee”.

Well, ‘my parents’, they are two people. My mom and my dad.

Bueno, 'mis padres', son dos personas. Mi mamá y mi papá.

So, what do I use?

Entonces, ¿qué uso?

I have to say, “they”. “They love Ongee”.

Tengo que decir, "ellos". “Aman a Ongee”.

The last example is very similar to the second one.

El último ejemplo es muy similar al segundo.

“My parents and I love Ongee”. Okay.

“Mis padres y yo amamos a Ongee”. Bueno.

The difference is… it says, “and I”.

La diferencia es… dice, “y yo”.

So this is ‘my parents’ with ‘me’.

Así que esto es 'mis padres' con 'yo'.

So I have to say, “we”. “We love Ongee”.

Así que tengo que decir, "nosotros". “Amamos a Ongee”.

Okay. All of us.
