Did you know a "Cockney" used to be a pejorative term for the working class

"Cockney" 발음은 노동자 계층이 쓰던 격떨어지는 악센트라고 알고있었겠지?

Yeah. Nonsense! It is the accent of the true Londoner

전혀. "Cockney" 는 진정한 런던인의 악센트다.

Who's a true Londoner?

누가 진정한 런던인이냐구?

If you're thinking of that guy in Mary Poppins

만약 Mary Poppins에 나오는 남자를 생각했다면.

Nonsense, that is an American impostor,

틀렸어. 그사람은 미국인이고, 흉내내는것에 불과하다.

He is not British. He is not a real Londoner!

영국인도 아닐뿐더러, 런던인은 더더욱 아니다!

Now, if you're thinking of Michael Caine...

그래, 이제 Michael Caine 을 생각중이라면.

He is a true Londoner!

맞어, 그는 진정한 런던인이지!

He's a Cockney, and he's a legend

그는 Cockney고, 전설이지.

But how do you speak like a Cockney you ask?

그래서 어떻게 Cockney 처럼 말하느냐고.

Well my son there are a few rules you have to follow

말해주자면, 너가 따라야할 몇가지 규칙들이 있다.

if you want to sound like a true Londoner.

너가 진정한 런던인처럼 말하고싶다면 말이지.

First one is that "Schwa" sound my good friend Aly taught ya!

첫번째는 , 내 친구 Aly 가 저번에 알려줬던 "Schwa" 발음이다.

that's the "UH" sound.

바로. "UH" 발음이다.

With a Cockney accent, it is more pronounced.

Conckney 발음에서는, 좀 더 강조해서 발음한다.

Regular person might say "Doctor"

평범한 영국인들은 "독터[Doctor]" 라고 발음하겠지.

But a Cockney says it "DoctAAAHH"

하지만 Cockney는 "독타[Doctah]" 라고 발음한다.

Same as in Stronger" "Faster" "Harder"

"스트롱거[Stronger]" , "파스터[Faster]" , "하더[Harder]" 도 마찬가지로

"StrongAAHH!"

"스트롱가[Strongah]"

"FastAAHH!"

"파스타[Fastah]"

"HARDAHH!"

" ' 아 ' 다[ 'H 'ardah]"

That brings us to our next point,

여기서 다음으로 가르쳐줄게 나왔는데

Hs? Don't need em! Get rid of em!

H 발음들? 전혀 필요없다. 집어치워버려.

Any word that begins with an H sound,

H 발음으로 시작되는 어떤 단어든간에

Get rid of that H!

H는 집어치워버려라.

Don't need you, H! Never have! You're useless!

H는 필요없어! 절대 안쓴다! 치워버려!

Words like: "Who" "Have" "House"

"후 [Who] " , "해브[Have]" , "하우스[House]" 같은 단어들을 예로들면

we don't use the Hs! Get rid of them!

H는 안쓴다고 말했지? 치워버린다!

OOH! AV! OUSE!

"우 [Ooh]" , "애브[Ave] " , "아우스[Ouse]"

For example:

예를 들어서,

"우[Ooh] are you? Doctor 우[Ooh]?" "넌 누구야?닥터 후?"

"That's 이스[Eis] 아우스[Ouse]" "저건 저녀석 집이야."

"아우[Ow] much for 임[Eim]" "저녀석 얼마야?"

"That doggy on the window" "저 창문에 있는 멍멍이말야."

You learned that "L"sounds can sometimes sound like a "W"

"L" 발음이 때때로 "W" 로 발음될 수 있다는걸 배웠지.

"L" 이 "에우" 로.

For example in these words:

단어를 몇가지 예로 들어보면

"Hell" should be pronounced Cockney accent

"헬[Hell]" 은 코크니 발음으로는

like "Hew"

"헤우[Hew]"로 되어야한다.

"일[ill]" 은 "이우[iw]

should become

"필[Pill] " 은. "피우[Piw]" 가 돼야겠지.

"필[Phil]" 은 "피우[Phiw]"

Another thing...

그리고 또 한가지.

내 친구 Aly 가 "성문 T" 에 대한 영상을 게시했었지.

This is the T sound which is replaced by the sound in the middle of 'Uh-Oh'

이 T 발음은 'Uh '와 'Oh' 의 중간발음으로 대채되는것을 말한다.

The "Uh---" sound

"Uh-" 발음 말이다.

Words like:

"워터[Water]" 같은단어는,

should sound like:

"워아[Wa'er]" 가 되어야한다.

The T stops in the throat

T 발음이 목에서 막힌다고 생각해라.

So none of this:

다시말하자면,

"Bottle of water please." "물 한병만 주세요."

Nah!

이런게 아니란거다!

Should be:

"보을 옵 워아 [Bo'el of Wa'er] "가 돼야한다.

Remember to use the Glottal T

성문 T를 쓰는걸 기억하도록.

the L that sounds like a W, and that big 'schwa' sound.

L 발음은 W발음이 되는거고, 'schwa' 소리 또한 기억해라.

"보을 옵 워아 [Bo'el of Wa'er] "

Other words could include:

There are two types of 'TH' sounds in English

영어에는, 두가지 타입의 "TH" 발음이 있다.

The 'voiced' which sounds like a:

'목을쓰는 TH'는 이렇게 들린다.

They have a vibration in the throat

목에 진동을 주는 소리이지.

For example in words like:

단어들을 예로 들면,

"형제"

"귀찮게하다"

"어머니"

"아버지"

"옷"

"가죽"

Those 'TH' sounds will be replaced by a V sound

저런류의 'TH' 발음들은, V 발음으로 대채된다.

For example:

예를 들어,

"Brother" -> "Bruvah"

"Bother" -> "Bovah"

"Mother" -> "Muvah"

"Father" -> "Favah"

"Clothes" -> "Cloves"

"Leather" -> "Levah"

The other 'TH' sound is UNvoiced, and that sounds like:

다른 'TH' 발음은 목을 쓰지 않는다.

Like in:

예를 들면

"Thank you" "감사합니다"

"Evrything" "전부"

"Nothing" "아무것도아닌"

"Thursday" "목요일"

"Sympathetic" "동정적인"

and they should be replaced by Fs

저런 TH 들은 F 발음으로 대채돼야한다.

So

"Thank you" -> "Fank you"

"Thursday" -> "Fursday"

"Nothing" -> "Nuffing"

"Everything" -> "Everyfing"

"Sympathetic" - > "Sympafetic"

and in some words like:

'The' , 'Them' , 'That' 같은 단어들은

We just don't say the TH sounds all the time

우린 그냥 TH 발음을 사용하지 않는다.

Just because...

Next thing to remember

다음으로 기억해야 할것은

sounds come from around the sides of the mouth

입을 움직여서 낼 수 있는 소리들이다.

So for example:

예를들어서,

'아우' 는 "에오!"

should be more of an:

Around the sides of the mouth

입을 움직여 내는 소리이지.

'OR' sounds become like:

'오'는 '오우' 로 발음돼야한다.

For example:

에를들어서,

"Talk" -> "Tork"

Should become like:

"Walk" -> "Work"

Words which have the 'AI' sound

'Ai" 소리를 내는 단어들은,

We don't say them like 'AI'

"Ai" 로 발음하지 않는다.

We say them like:

우린 '오이' 로 발음한다.

For example:

예를 들어서.

"Alright" ->"Oight"

sounds like

"Pie" -> "Poie"

"Thigh" -> "Toigh"

"Like" -> "Loike"

"Thight" -> "Toight"

Also us cockneys, we prefer to say "me" instead of "my"

그리고 우리 Cockney 들은 'My' 보단 'Me' 로 표현하길 좋아한다.

For example

예를들어,"My throat hurts" 라고 말한다면 "Me froat urts" 라고 말하겠지.

Probably wouldn't say that

Notice again

다시 말해주지. My->Me Th->F -> (Froat) T->성문 T

and we don't use Hs because who needs them.

그리고 H는 필요없기 떄문에 사용하지 않았지.

Also a Cockney's quite partial to double negatives

또한 Cockney 들은 이중부정을 많이 사용하고

and using the third person in reverse.

3인칭 표현을 1인칭처럼 사용한다.

For example

예를들어서.

You want some money?

"You want some money?" 돈좀 필요하냐?

"I ain't got none" "나는 한푼도 안가지고있다" "I ain't got none,mate" "나는 한푼도 안가지고 있다고 이친구야."

and third persons, we usually use them in reverse

그리고 3인칭에 있어서는, 우리는 1인칭처럼 사용한다.

For example

예를 들어서

"You wasn't even there" "너는 거기에 있지도 않았어"

"I weren't even talking to you" "난 너한테 말하는것도 아니었어"

Keep it under your hat, yeah?

But we have our words for things

우리만의 단어들이 있지.

For example

예를 들어서

"My missus" 는 여자친구/아내 라는 뜻이며

To say someone's attractive

누군가 매력적이라는 단어는 "Fit" 이라고 표현한다.

"Your missus is fit" "네 와이프 매력적이네."

To say the opposite, to say someone's ugly:

반대 표현으로, 누군가 못생겼다는 단어는

They are 'A minger'

Minger 라고 표현한다.

"You are a minger" "너 못생겼어"

"That girl is a minger" "저 여자 못생겼구만"

"Dosh/Dough" = Money(돈)

You wanna talk about money

'돈' 이라고 말하고싶을때는

You're talking about your dough, your dosh, mate!

돈! 돈말이다! (Dough/Dosh 둘다 돈이라는 뜻)

I ain't got no dosh/I ain't got no dough 나 돈 가진게 없어

"Up the duff" 는 "Pregnant" ,임신이라는 뜻이다.

"Is your missus up the duff,mate?" "네 와이프 임신했냐 임마?"

Us cockneys like to check for understanding in a conversation

우리 Cockney 들은 대화하면서 상대방이 이해했는지 물어본다.

by asking this question:

이렇게 물어보지.

"뭔말지알스?"

or

또는

"뫌쟐스?"

"무.슨.말.인.지.알.겠.어?"

"뫌쟐스?"
