This week. We have a question from one of my fluent communication

(ما الفرق بين الاصغاء والاستماع؟)

listen and

Hear Jose. That is an awesome question, and I would love to share the answer with all of you now

سأقول يا خوسيه , هذا سؤال رائع وانا سأحب ان اشارك الجواب مع جميعكم

The problem is these two verbs are so similar we can even use them in the same

الان المشكله ان هذان الفعلان متشابهان جدا , نحن نستطيع حتى ان نستعملهم في نفس الجمل

Sentence but there is a subtle difference and we didn't learn it in traditional English

لكن هناك فرق دقيق ونحن لم نتعلمه في دروس الانكليزيه التقليديه

traditional English learning textbooks don't really explain clearly what the difference is between

You will know the difference very easily very quickly

وانت ستعرف الفرق بسهوله وسرعه كبيره

لكن هذان الفعلان حقا شائعان في كلمات الاغاني

But these verbs are really common in song lyrics in fact in Spanish

في الحقيقه في الاسبانيه انا اشعر ان الكثير من الاغاني تبدا (اصغوا لي يا شعبي ...🎵)

I feel like a lot of songs begin with a mi gente

Listen to me my people and so let's begin by talking about

لذا دعنا نبدا بالتحدث عن الاصغاء

Listen listen is when you're asking someone to pay attention. It's really when you're actively focused on

الاصغاء هو عندما تطلب من شخص ما الانتباه

انه حقا عندما تركز بنشاط على ما تصغي اليه او استطيع القول على ما تستمع اليه

What you are?

Listening to or I could say on what you're hearing

But that's confusing things a little bit. Let's focus on to listen to listen is active

لكن هذا شيء معقد قليلا , دعنا نركز على الاصغاء

للاصغاء , انه نشاط ,انه تركيز , انه بهدف انت تحاول الاصغاء له

It's focused. It's on purpose you are trying to

Listen, you want to hear what someone has to say or you want to listen to the mute like so listening?

انت تريد الاستماع لما يقوله شخص ما او انت تريد الاصغاء للموسيقى

Is all about your intent so we could use it to get someone's attention

لذا الاصغاء كله عن عزمك/نيتك , لذا نستطيع استعماله لنيل انتباه شخص ما

Hey listen to me. Are you listening to me?

هيي اصغي لي , هل انت مصغي لي؟

Listen to this music. It's really good

اصغي للموسيقى انها حقا جيده , اصغي لهذا انا املك فكره

Listen to this I have an idea

الاصغاء كله عن انتباهك

Listening is all about your attention

Let's remember that it's about focus and it's about actively listening when we use the verb listen

دعنا نتذكر انه عن التركيز وانه الاستماع بنشاط,

متى نستعمل الفعل (يصغي)؟

Quick grammar side note when we use the verb

ملاحظه نحويه جانبيه سريعه !, عندما نستعمل الفعل (يصغي) ,نحن دائما دائما دائما نتبعها مع حرف الجر (الى/to)

Listen, we always always always follow it with the preposition to for example, let's listen to music listen to me

على سبيل المثال

دعنا نصغي الى الموسيقى , اصغي لي , اصغي الى صوت الرياح

Listen to the sounds of the wind

Anyway, you don't need to use to if it's a command

على اي حال , انت لاتحتاج لاستعمال (الى/to) اذا كان أمر ,اصغي! اصغي الان!!

Listen up listen now

Let's talk about to hear so here is about background noise

دعنا نتحدث عن( الاستماع)

اذا (استمع) انها عن الضوضاء الخلفيه

It's about hearing something but not on purpose

انها عن الاستماع لشيء لكن ليس بهدف/غايه

You didn't want to hear the thing. It's just in your environment

انت لم تريد الاستماع للشيء ,انه فقط في بيئتك

For example, when I lived in New York City, I could hear sirens day and night it was so noisy

على سبيل المثال عندما عشت في مدينة نيويورك ,استطعت سماع صفارات انذار نهارا وليلا , كانت مزعجه جدا

Did I want to hear the sirens? No, but could I hear the sirens?

هل اردت الاستماع للصفارات؟ -لا

لكن هل استطعت سماع الصفارات؟ -نعم

Yes to hear is about your senses your body

(الاستماع) انه متعلق بحواسك ,بجسدك,بالطبيعه ,او اذنيك بالطبيعه قادرين على السمع

Naturally or your ears are naturally able to hear it has to do with your ability

انها تتعلق بقدرتك للسماع

To hear so, how is your hearing? Are you able to hear everything loud and clear?

لذا كيف هو استماعك؟هل انت قادر على سماع كل شيء بشكل عالي وواضح؟

Hearing is also

الاستماع هو ايضا عن الفهم الاعمق

about a deeper understanding

So you might be listening to me. But do you hear me? Do you understand me do you agree with me?

لذا ربما انت تصغي لي, لكن هل انت تسمعني؟ هل تفهمني؟هل توافقني؟

We can say I hear you to show that we understand and agree with someone

نحن نستطيع ان نقول انا اسمعك لكي نظهر اننا نفهم ونوافق شخص ما

So it's a nice phrase to show your empathy and understanding

لذا انها عباره لطيفه لتظهر تعاطفك وتفهمك

So here is also used in some phrases to change the topic or to introduce

(الاستماع )ايضا تستعمل في بعض العبارات لتغير الموضوع او لتقديم موضوع جديد

A new subject. For example, did you hear the news?

على سبيل المثال ,هل سمعت الاخبار؟

Did you hear about so-and-so did you hear about that famous person? Did you hear there's a new movie?

هل سمعت عن كذا وكذا..,هل سمعت عن الشخص المشهور؟ ,هل سمعت انه هناك فيلم جديد؟ دعنا نذهب ونشاهده
