Learn 'Light' and 'Dark' English words - Speak English with Misterduncan

Here are two words that  are opposite to each other, 

ဤသည်မှာ တစ်ခုနှင့်တစ်ခု ဆန့်ကျင်ဘက်ဖြစ်သော စကားလုံးနှစ်လုံးဖြစ်သော်လည်း

but can be used in many interesting ways

အင်္ဂလိပ်လို သင့်ခံစားချက်များကို ဖော်ပြသည့်အခါ

when expressing your feelings in English.

စိတ်ဝင်စားစရာကောင်းသည့် နည်းလမ်းများစွာဖြင့် သုံးနိုင်သည်

The words are ‘light’ and ‘dark’.

။ စကားလုံးများသည် 'အလင်း' နှင့် 'အမှောင်' ဖြစ်သည်။

We can use the word light to express brightness.

အလင်းကိုဖော်ပြရန် အလင်းဟူသော စကားလုံးကို ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သုံးနိုင်သည်။

A light is shining.

အလင်းရောင်တစ်ခု ထွန်းလင်းနေသည်။

A bright light can be seen from far away.

တောက်ပသောအလင်းရောင်ကို အဝေးမှမြင်နိုင်သည်။

The word light can be used  as both a noun and a verb.

အလင်းကို နာမ်နှင့်ကြိယာအဖြစ် သုံးနိုင်သည်။

You might light a fire.

မီးကို ထွန်းနိုင်တယ်။

To start a fire or ignite  something that creates fire  

မီးစတင်လောင်ကျွမ်းရန် သို့မဟုတ် မီးကိုဖန်တီးရန်မှာ

is ‘light’. (verb)

'အလင်းရောင်' ဖြစ်သည်။ (ကြိယာ)

As the fire burns, there is light being produced by the flames of the fire.

မီးတောက်လောင်သည်နှင့်အမျှ မီးလျှံမှ အလင်းထွက်လာသည်။

As a phrase, we can describe something as being ‘as light as a feather’.

စကားစုတစ်ခုအနေဖြင့်၊ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် 'အမွေးကဲ့သို့ ပေါ့ပါးသော' တစ်ခုခုကို ဖော်ပြနိုင်သည်။

In this sentence, we are using the  word light to mean ‘not heavy’.

ဒီဝါကျမှာ 'မလေးပါဘူး' လို့ အဓိပ္ပာယ်ရတဲ့ အလင်းကို သုံးပါတယ်။

Something has very little weight.

တစ်စုံတစ်ခုသည် ကိုယ်အလေးချိန် အလွန်နည်းသည်။

So the word light can also be used to mean a thing

that has no weight, or is  easy to pick up and carry.

A person's mood can be described as light if they appear relaxed and calm.

လူတစ်ဦး၏ စိတ်နေစိတ်ထားကို ပေါ့ပေါ့ပါးပါးနှင့် တည်ငြိမ်အေးဆေးသည့်ပုံပေါက်ပါက ဖော်ပြနိုင်သည်။

A gentle breeze can be described as ‘light’.

လေပြည်ကို 'အလင်း' လို့ ခေါ်နိုင်တယ်။

A light breeze can be very relaxing.

လေနုအေးလေးက စိတ်ကို အေးချမ်းစေနိုင်ပါတယ်။

You might find yourself feeling light-headed.

ပေါ့ပေါ့ပါးပါး ခံစားရတာကို သင်တွေ့နိုင်တယ်။

To feel dizziness can be  described as feeling light-headed

မူးဝေခြင်းကို ခံစားရစေရန် လမ်းပေါ်တွင်

On the road, we can describe  the movement of cars as ‘light’,

ပေါ့ပါးသော ခံစားချက်ဟု ခေါ်ဆိုနိုင်သည် ၊

if there are very few vehicles travelling on that particular highway.

အကယ်၍ ထိုလမ်းမကြီးပေါ်တွင် ယာဉ်စီးရေ အလွန်နည်းပါးပါက မော်တော်ကားများ၏ ရွေ့လျားမှုကို 'အလင်း' အဖြစ် ဖော်ပြနိုင်ပါသည်။

There is light traffic.

မီးပွိုင့်ရှိတယ်။

The opposite of ‘light’ is ‘dark’.

'အလင်း' ၏ ဆန့်ကျင်ဘက်မှာ 'အမှောင်' ဖြစ်သည်။

A light room. A dark alley.

အလင်းရောင်အခန်း။ အမှောင်လမ်း။

The opposite of light when  expressing weight is heavy.

အလေးချိန်ဖော်ပြသောအခါ အလင်း၏ဆန့်ကျင်ဘက်မှာ လေးလံသည်။

A light parcel.

အလင်းပါဆယ်ထုပ်။

A heavy box.

Then we have the opposite  of light, which is ‘dark’,

in the sense of there being very little light.

A dark place is ‘dim’.

There is almost no light there.

We can also use the word ‘dark’ to express a sad feeling or mood.

ဝမ်းနည်းစရာ ခံစားချက် သို့မဟုတ် စိတ်ခံစားချက်ကို ဖော်ပြရန်အတွက် 'အမှောင်' ဟူသော စကားလုံးကိုလည်း အသုံးပြုနိုင်သည်။

A dark day might refer to the mood of that particular time.

မှောင်မိုက်သောနေ့သည် ထိုအချိန်၏ စိတ်ခံစားချက်ကို ရည်ညွှန်းနိုင်သည်။

A terrible event occurring might lead to that particular day being described as ‘dark’.

ကြောက်မက်ဖွယ်ကောင်းသော အဖြစ်အပျက်တစ်ခုသည် ထိုနေ့ကို 'အမှောင်' အဖြစ် သတ်မှတ်ခြင်းသို့ ဦးတည်သွားစေနိုင်သည်။

A scary story can also be described as ‘dark’.

ကြောက်စရာကောင်းသော ဇာတ်လမ်းကို 'အမှောင်' ဟုလည်း ဖော်ပြနိုင်သည်။

The story has some unpleasant moments, or the theme of the story might concern a terrible event.

ဇာတ်လမ်းတွင် မနှစ်မြို့ဖွယ် အခိုက်အတန့်များ ရှိသည် သို့မဟုတ် ဇာတ်လမ်း၏ ဆောင်ပုဒ်သည် ဆိုးရွားသော ဖြစ်ရပ်တစ်ခုနှင့် ပတ်သက်နိုင်သည်။

Darkness is the state of being without light, or the lack of happiness and joy.

အမှောင်သည် အလင်းရောင်မရှိသော အခြေအနေ သို့မဟုတ် ပျော်ရွှင်မှုနှင့် ပျော်ရွှင်မှု ကင်းမဲ့မှုဖြစ်သည်။

There is darkness in his soul.

A particular tone or colour of something can be described as ‘dark’...

As a phrase, we might keep someone in the dark about a particular thing.

စကားစုတစ်ခုအနေဖြင့်၊ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် တစ်စုံတစ်ဦးကို သီးခြားအရာတစ်ခုအတွက် အမှောင်ထဲတွင် ထားနိုင်သည်။

To hold back certain information from others can be described as ‘keeping them in the dark’.

အခြားသူများထံမှ အချို့သော အချက်အလက်များကို ထိန်းထားရန် 'အမှောင်ထဲတွင် ထားရှိခြင်း' ဟု ဖော်ပြနိုင်သည်။

Generally speaking, light  and dark are opposite words.

ယေဘုယျအားဖြင့်ပြောရလျှင် အလင်းနှင့်အမှောင်သည် ဆန့်ကျင်ဘက်စကားလုံးများဖြစ်သည်။

‘Light’ is often expressed as something good,

'အလင်း' ကို ကောင်းသောအရာဟု မကြာခဏ ဖော်ပြလေ့ရှိပြီး

whilst ‘dark’ can be used to  express something evil or wicked.

To fully discuss a certain topic might require one to observe the light and the dark.
