Today I'm going to talk about three parts of daily speech that we all use

امروز قصد دارم در مورد سه بخش از گفتار روزانه صحبت کنم که همه ما

when describing or showing the position or state of something.

هنگام توصیف یا نشان دادن موقعیت یا وضعیت چیزی استفاده می کنیم.

Today I will tell you all  about this, that and the other.

امروز همه چیز را در مورد این، آن و دیگری به شما خواهم گفت.

Although this subject might sound complicated and difficult to understand,

اگرچه ممکن است این موضوع پیچیده و درک آن دشوار به نظر برسد، اما

it is in fact quite easy to explain the definitions of this and that.

در واقع توضیح تعاریف این و آن بسیار آسان است.

First of all, the word this refers to something that has recently been mentioned.

اولاً کلمه این اشاره به چیزی دارد که اخیراً ذکر شده است.

A familiar thing or a popular topic that will often be referred to as this.

یک چیز آشنا یا یک موضوع پرطرفدار که اغلب به این عنوان اشاره می شود.

It is a thing that most people are aware of or something that is easily recognizable.

این چیزی است که اکثر مردم از آن آگاه هستند یا چیزی است که به راحتی قابل تشخیص است.

Something that is nearby or close at hand is often referred to as this.

چیزی که در نزدیکی یا نزدیک است، اغلب به این نام گفته می شود.

It is the nearest thing or the most obvious object that can be seen.

نزدیکترین چیز یا آشکارترین شیئی است که می توان دید.

The nearest thing to you that is being pointed out

نزدیکترین چیزی که به شما اشاره می شود

will often be referred to as this.

اغلب به این عنوان خوانده می شود.

Something that you are holding or have in your hand

چیزی که در دست دارید یا در دست دارید

will normally be referred to as this.

معمولاً به این عنوان گفته می شود.

For example, this pen, this watch, this hat.

مثلا این خودکار، این ساعت، این کلاه.

These objects are nearby and can clearly be seen.

این اشیاء نزدیک هستند و به وضوح دیده می شوند.

This can also be used to  identify a specific person 

این همچنین می تواند برای شناسایی شخص

or thing that is being indicated or experienced.

You might refer to a person as this.

شما ممکن است به یک شخص به این عنوان اشاره کنید.

"Don't listen to this person, he doesn't know what he's talking about."

"به این شخص گوش نده، او نمی داند در مورد چه چیزی صحبت می کند."

"This town has really changed over the years."

این شهر در طول سال‌ها واقعاً تغییر کرده است.»

Something recently mentioned might be referred to,

ممکن است به چیزی که اخیراً ذکر شده است اشاره شود،

especially if it is something that many people are talking about.

به خصوص اگر موضوعی باشد که بسیاری از مردم در مورد آن صحبت می کنند.

"This new law they are introducing will really change the way we live our lives."

این قانون جدید که آنها معرفی می کنند واقعاً شیوه زندگی ما را تغییر خواهد داد.»

The word this is a pronoun, which means it can be 

کلمه this یک ضمیر است، به این معنی که می توان از آن

used as a way of identifying  something in a specific way.

به عنوان راهی برای شناسایی چیزی به روشی خاص استفاده کرد.

This is the definition of this.

این تعریف این است.

Then we have the word that,

سپس کلمه that را داریم

which is a slightly more complex word.

که کمی پیچیده تر است.

Despite its seeming simplicity,

علیرغم سادگی ظاهری،

'that' is a very common word in both writing and speaking.

«آن» یک کلمه بسیار رایج در نوشتن و گفتار است.

We use it as a determinator, (determiner) a demonstrated pronoun, and a relative pronoun.

ما آن را به عنوان یک تعیین کننده، (تعیین کننده) یک ضمیر نشان داده شده، و یک ضمیر نسبی استفاده می کنیم.

We also use it as a conjunction to introduce 

ما همچنین از آن به عنوان یک ربط برای معرفی

clauses referring to that as  a determinator and pronoun.

جملاتی استفاده می کنیم که به آن به عنوان تعیین کننده و ضمیر اشاره می کنند.

We often use that to point to a thing or person.

ما اغلب از آن برای اشاره به یک چیز یا شخص استفاده می کنیم.

We use it with singular nouns.

The single person is often  distant from the speaker 

فرد مجرد اغلب از گوینده دور است

and sometimes closer to the listener,

or not visible to either  the speaker or the listener.

یا برای گوینده یا شنونده قابل مشاهده نیست.

"What was that?" "Did you hear that noise?"

"این چی بود؟" "آیا آن صدا را شنیدی؟"

"Don't touch that bike. It belongs to me."

"به آن دوچرخه دست نزن. مال من است."

A thing being pointed out or referred to at a distance is often referred to as that.

چیزی که از راه دور به آن اشاره می شود یا به آن اشاره می شود، اغلب به آن اشاره می شود.

As a relative pronoun, we use that to introduce defining relative clauses.

به عنوان یک ضمیر نسبی، از آن برای معرفی جملات نسبی استفاده می کنیم.

We can use that instead of who, whom or which to refer to people, animals, and things.

می‌توانیم از آن به‌جای اینکه چه کسی، چه کسی یا کدام به افراد، حیوانات و اشیا اشاره کنیم، استفاده کنیم.

It is often seen as an informal way of pointing out a living creature or a person.

اغلب به عنوان راهی غیررسمی برای اشاره به یک موجود زنده یا یک شخص دیده می شود.

It is worth noting that we are more likely to use that when referring to an animal or an object.

شایان ذکر است که ما هنگام اشاره به یک حیوان یا یک شی بیشتر از آن استفاده می کنیم.

In many situations, it might  be seen as insulting or rude 

در بسیاری از موقعیت‌ها، توصیف یک فرد به این شکل

to describe a person as that.

ممکن است توهین آمیز یا بی ادبانه تلقی شود

"Who is that at the door?" "That is my friend."

. "آن درب خانه کیست؟" "این دوست من است."

"I really don't want to be  seen in public with that."

If we are discussing two things that are at different distances from us,

اگر در مورد دو چیز بحث می کنیم که در فواصل متفاوت از ما قرار دارند،

we will often refer to the nearest thing as this and the object furthest away as that.

اغلب به نزدیک ترین چیز به عنوان این و دورترین شی به عنوان آن اشاره می کنیم.

For example, this tree and that field.

مثلا این درخت و آن مزرعه.

The field is much further away, so I will refer to it as that.

این میدان بسیار دورتر است، بنابراین من به آن اشاره خواهم کرد.

Quite often the distance  and location of objects will 

معمولاً فاصله و مکان اشیاء

decide whether we describe it as this or that.

The situation you are currently in will always be described as this,

This moment, this situation, this time it is now, It is the moment being discussed.

If you want to describe the use or function of a certain thing,

اگر بخواهید کاربرد یا عملکرد یک چیز خاص را توصیف کنید،

we will often use the word that.

اغلب از کلمه that استفاده می کنیم.

"A wheelbarrow is a very useful thing that helps you move heavy objects around the garden."

چرخ دستی چیز بسیار مفیدی است که به شما کمک می کند اجسام سنگین را در اطراف باغ جابجا کنید.

You are pointing out the use  of that particular thing.

شما به استفاده از آن چیز خاص اشاره می کنید.

In this case, the thing is a wheelbarrow.

در این مورد، چیز یک چرخ دستی است.

Finally we have the word which is often used

در نهایت ما کلمه ای را داریم که اغلب

when we are talking about a third thing that might be introduced,

در مورد چیز سومی که ممکن است معرفی شود

or a second thing that is also being described or offered.

یا چیز دومی که در حال توصیف یا ارائه است صحبت می کنیم

The word is other but simply  this word refers to something

استفاده می شود. کلمه دیگری است، اما این کلمه به سادگی به چیزی اشاره دارد

that is next to, or beside the  main thing being discussed.

که در کنار یا در کنار موضوع اصلی مورد بحث است.

You might talk about the  other night or the other day.

ممکن است در مورد آن شب یا روز دیگر صحبت کنید.

We are not referring to now or today.

منظور ما الان و امروز نیست.

We are talking about the other day.

ما در مورد روز دیگر صحبت می کنیم.

In this sense, it is always  a past event or moment.

به این معنا، همیشه یک رویداد یا لحظه گذشته است.

"I saw you the other day in town."

"روز پیش تو را در شهر دیدم."

Perhaps you see someone from a distance with a person you don't recognise.

شاید شما فردی را از دور با فردی که نمی شناسید ببینید.

You know who your friend is, but who is the other person?

میدونی دوستت کیه ولی اون طرف کیه؟

The other person is there  but cannot be identified.

شخص دیگر آنجاست اما قابل شناسایی نیست.

Other is always something else or another thing.

دیگری همیشه چیز دیگری یا چیز دیگری است.

Something unknown is often  referred to as the other.

چیزی ناشناخته اغلب به عنوان دیگری شناخته می شود.

We often refer to the state of no longer being alive as being on the other side.

ما اغلب به حالتی که دیگر زنده نیستیم، آن طرف هستیم.

That thing is mysterious and unknown.

آن چیز مرموز و ناشناخته است.

It is the other thing when being offered a choice of two things.

زمانی که به شما پیشنهاد می شود دو چیز را انتخاب کنید، چیز دیگری است.

You might be asked to choose one or the other.

ممکن است از شما خواسته شود یکی یا دیگری را انتخاب کنید.

You can't have both.

شما نمی توانید هر دو را داشته باشید.

You can only have one or the other.

شما فقط می توانید یکی یا دیگری را داشته باشید.

So to clarify and make extra clear what I have talked about today.

بنابراین برای روشن شدن و شفاف سازی بیشتر آنچه امروز در مورد آن صحبت کردم.

This is the thing being discussed or observed closely.

این چیزی است که از نزدیک مورد بحث یا مشاهده است.

That is the thing which is seen from a distance,

آن چیزی است که از دور دیده می شود

or from a point where it  can't be seen or observed.

یا از نقطه ای که نمی توان آن را دید یا مشاهده کرد.

And the other is whatever is added to it.

و دیگری هر چه به آن اضافه شود.

The extra thing is unknown.

چیز اضافی معلوم نیست.

It is an unknown event, something mysterious that remains in the shadow.

این یک رویداد ناشناخته است، چیزی مرموز که در سایه می ماند.

It is the other.

آن دیگری است.
