Today I'm going to talk about three parts of daily speech that we all use

오늘은 일상 대화에서 무언가의

when describing or showing the position or state of something.

위치나 상태를 설명하거나 보여줄 때 사용하는 세 가지 표현에 대해 이야기해 보겠습니다 .

Today I will tell you all  about this, that and the other.

오늘은 이것저것 다 말씀드리겠습니다 .

Although this subject might sound complicated and difficult to understand,

이 주제는 듣기에 복잡 하고 이해하기 어려울 수 있지만,

it is in fact quite easy to explain the definitions of this and that.

사실 이것과 저것의 정의를 설명하는 것은 매우 쉽습니다.

First of all, the word this refers to something that has recently been mentioned.

우선, '이것'이라는 단어는 최근에 언급된 것을 가리킵니다. 흔히 이렇게 언급되는

A familiar thing or a popular topic that will often be referred to as this.

친숙한 사물이나 인기 있는 주제 .

It is a thing that most people are aware of or something that is easily recognizable.

대부분의 사람들이 알고 있거나 쉽게 알아볼 수 있는 사실입니다.

Something that is nearby or close at hand is often referred to as this.

근처나 가까운 곳에 있는 것을 종종 이렇게 부릅니다.

It is the nearest thing or the most obvious object that can be seen.

이는 눈에 보이는 가장 가까운 것이나 가장 눈에 띄는 물체입니다.

The nearest thing to you that is being pointed out

여러분에게 가장 가까운 것이 지적될 때

will often be referred to as this.

종종 이것이라고 불리곤 합니다.

Something that you are holding or have in your hand

당신이 잡고 있거나 손에 쥐고 있는 어떤 것을

will normally be referred to as this.

일반적으로 이것을 이렇게 부릅니다.

For example, this pen, this watch, this hat.

예를 들어, 이 펜, 이 시계, 이 모자.

These objects are nearby and can clearly be seen.

이런 물체는 근처에 있어서 뚜렷하게 볼 수 있습니다.

This can also be used to  identify a specific person 

이는 또한 특정 인물

or thing that is being indicated or experienced.

이나 사물이 표시되거나 경험되고 있음을 식별하는 데 사용될 수 있습니다.

You might refer to a person as this.

사람을 이렇게 부를 수도 있겠습니다.

"Don't listen to this person, he doesn't know what he's talking about."

"이 사람 말은 듣지 마세요. 그는 무슨 말을 하는지 전혀 모릅니다."

"This town has really changed over the years."

"이 마을은 세월이 흐르면서 정말 많이 변했어요."

Something recently mentioned might be referred to,

최근에 언급된 내용 ,

especially if it is something that many people are talking about.

특히 많은 사람들이 이야기하고 있는 내용이 언급될 수 있습니다.

"This new law they are introducing will really change the way we live our lives."

"그들이 도입하는 이 새로운 법은 정말 우리 삶의 방식을 바꿀 것입니다."

The word this is a pronoun, which means it can be 

이 단어는 대명사입니다. 즉,

used as a way of identifying  something in a specific way.

특정한 방식으로 무언가를 식별하는 방법으로 사용될 수 있다는 의미입니다.

This is the definition of this.

이것이 이것의 정의입니다.

Then we have the word that,

그리고 'that'이라는 단어는

which is a slightly more complex word.

조금 더 복잡한 단어입니다.

Despite its seeming simplicity,

겉보기에 단순해 보이지만,

'that' is a very common word in both writing and speaking.

'that'은 글쓰기와 말하기에서 매우 흔한 단어입니다.

We use it as a determinator, (determiner) a demonstrated pronoun, and a relative pronoun.

우리는 그것을 결정사, (결정사) 입증대명사, 관계대명사로 사용합니다.

We also use it as a conjunction to introduce 

또한 우리는 그것을 결정사와 대명사로 언급하는 절을 소개하는 접속사로도 사용합니다

clauses referring to that as  a determinator and pronoun.

We often use that to point to a thing or person.

우리는 종종 그것을 사물이나 사람을 가리키는 데 사용합니다.

We use it with singular nouns.

단수 명사와 함께 사용합니다.

The single person is often  distant from the speaker 

한 사람이 말하는 사람과 멀리 떨어져 있는 경우가 많고,

and sometimes closer to the listener,

때로는 듣는 사람과 더 가까이 있거나

or not visible to either  the speaker or the listener.

말하는 사람이나 듣는 사람 모두에게 보이지 않는 경우도 있습니다.

"What was that?" "Did you hear that noise?"

"그게 뭐였지?" "그 소리 들렸어?"

"Don't touch that bike. It belongs to me."

"그 자전거는 만지지 마. 내 거야." 멀리서

A thing being pointed out or referred to at a distance is often referred to as that.

어떤 것을 가리키거나 언급하는 것을 종종 '그것'이라고 부른다.

As a relative pronoun, we use that to introduce defining relative clauses.

관계대명사로서 that은 정의 관계절을 소개하는 데 사용됩니다.

We can use that instead of who, whom or which to refer to people, animals, and things.

우리는 who, whom, which 대신에 이것을 사용하여 사람, 동물, 사물을 지칭할 수 있습니다.

It is often seen as an informal way of pointing out a living creature or a person.

이는 종종 살아있는 생물이나 사람을 가리키는 비공식적인 방식으로 여겨진다.

It is worth noting that we are more likely to use that when referring to an animal or an object.

동물이나 사물을 언급할 때 이 표현을 사용할 가능성이 더 높다는 점은 주목할 만합니다.

In many situations, it might  be seen as insulting or rude 

많은 경우, 사람을 그렇게 표현하는 것은 모욕적이거나 무례하다고 여겨질 수 있습니다

to describe a person as that.

"Who is that at the door?" "That is my friend."

"문 앞에 있는 사람은 누구야?" "그 사람은 내 친구예요."

"I really don't want to be  seen in public with that."

"저는 그런 모습으로 대중 앞에 드러나고 싶지 않습니다."

If we are discussing two things that are at different distances from us,

만약 우리가 서로 다른 거리에 있는 두 가지 사물에 관해 이야기할 때,

we will often refer to the nearest thing as this and the object furthest away as that.

우리는 종종 가장 가까운 사물을 이것이라고 부르고 가장 먼 사물을 저것이라고 부릅니다.

For example, this tree and that field.

예를 들어, 이 나무와 저 들판.

The field is much further away, so I will refer to it as that.

Quite often the distance  and location of objects will

decide whether we describe it as this or that.

The situation you are currently in will always be described as this,

This moment, this situation, this time it is now, It is the moment being discussed.

If you want to describe the use or function of a certain thing,

특정한 것의 용도나 기능을 설명하고 싶을 때,

we will often use the word that.

우리는 종종 'that'이라는 단어를 사용합니다.

"A wheelbarrow is a very useful thing that helps you move heavy objects around the garden."

"수레는 정원에서 무거운 물건을 옮기는 데 도움이 되는 매우 유용한 도구입니다."

You are pointing out the use  of that particular thing.

당신은 그 특정한 것의 사용을 지적하고 있습니다.

In this case, the thing is a wheelbarrow.

이 경우에는 수레가 그 예입니다.

Finally we have the word which is often used

마지막으로, 소개될

when we are talking about a third thing that might be introduced,

세 번째 것,

or a second thing that is also being described or offered.

또는 설명되거나 제안되는 두 번째 것에 대해 이야기할 때 종종 사용되는 단어가 있습니다.

The word is other but simply  this word refers to something

이 단어는 '다른 것'이지만, 이 단어는 논의되는 주요 내용 옆이나 그 옆에 있는 무언가를 가리킵니다

that is next to, or beside the  main thing being discussed.

You might talk about the  other night or the other day.

당신은 어젯밤이나 저번 날에 대해 이야기할 수도 있습니다 .

We are not referring to now or today.

우리는 지금이나 오늘을 말하는 것이 아닙니다.

We are talking about the other day.

우리는 저번에 있었던 일에 대해 이야기하고 있습니다.

In this sense, it is always  a past event or moment.

이런 의미에서 그것은 항상 과거의 사건이나 순간입니다.

"I saw you the other day in town."

"저번에 마을에서 봤어요."

Perhaps you see someone from a distance with a person you don't recognise.

어쩌면 당신은 멀리서 당신이 알아보지 못하는 사람과 함께 있는 것을 볼 수도 있습니다.

You know who your friend is, but who is the other person?

친구는 누구인지 아는데, 상대방은 누구인가요?

The other person is there  but cannot be identified.

Other is always something else or another thing.

다른 것'은 항상 다른 것 또는 다른 사물입니다.

Something unknown is often  referred to as the other.

알려지지 않은 것은 종종 다른 것으로 언급됩니다.

We often refer to the state of no longer being alive as being on the other side.

That thing is mysterious and unknown.

It is the other thing when being offered a choice of two things.

You might be asked to choose one or the other.

You can't have both.

You can only have one or the other.

So to clarify and make extra clear what I have talked about today.

This is the thing being discussed or observed closely.

이는 주의 깊게 논의되거나 관찰되는 사항입니다.

That is the thing which is seen from a distance,

그것은 멀리서 보이는 것,

or from a point where it  can't be seen or observed.

즉 볼 수 없거나 관찰할 수 없는 지점에서 보이는 것입니다.

And the other is whatever is added to it.

그리고 다른 하나는 그것에 추가되는 것입니다.

The extra thing is unknown.

추가적인 사항은 알 수 없습니다.

It is an unknown event, something mysterious that remains in the shadow.

그것은 알려지지 않은 사건이며, 그림자 속에 남아 있는 신비로운 무언가입니다.

It is the other.

그것은 다른 것입니다.
